i stayed here two nights while on business in tampa.  the location is good -- ridiculously close to the airport, yet conveniently far from the flight pattern (i.e., no noise!).  the hotel offers free parking, which is great.  it's right across the street from a large mall which includes a number of dining options (from fast food to the palm steak house), a movie theater, and several large anchor department stores.  there is also a walgreens and a starbucks right across the street.  so the location is prime.  i found the staff to be very helpful, the facility was flawlessly clean . . . no complaints at all!

the service is what gives this it's fifth star

otherwise, it's a very nice new 4star'ish hotel with the high def tv, nice rooms, good bath products (although the sheets are a little harsh), but everyone here is both competent and exceedingly helpful. which just doesnt always happen as much as it should.

and, at least right now, rooms are often very reasonable.

I stayed here this past weekend.  I couldn't have been more impressed with this hotel, especially because I got it for such a good rate online.  Staff was helpful and friendly, ordered room service (which was decent), comfortable beds, good bath products, etc.. i would definitely stay here again.

Stayed here awhile ago. Did not like it. Rooms were fine, but could have been updated some. They gave us a room near the soda and ice machine. Totally ticked me off and when we requested a change - we got foggy heads and a statement that they were booked for the night. No matter what we said to the staff, they looked at us like we were aliens. At first, I thought it was me, but then my friend started asking all of the questions and making the requests -- he thought it was me and not them, but he soon found out it was them. Not sure what caused the foggy head syndrome, but I was really happy to leave this hotel and Tampa. It is close to the airport and that is a plus. It is also located next to a business office, so it probably works really well for business travelers.

Great fun hotel to stay at! There are business offices on the other side so you can see people working while yo go up the elevator. And they sent out my postcards for FREE!

Decor - very nice/clean/new

Rooms - King room was a nice size,  bed was very comfie, bathroom was ok (if only they would quit using the water saving shower heads...that is really my only complaint in the room).  Had a safe.  Views are not the best but I didn't mind for the price and what I got.

Price - Excellent...you will never stay at a Intercontinental for these prices.  Plus they have free parking in the garage which is attached to the hotel, very easy access.

Room Service - Some of it comes from Shula's steakhouse which is very good and the prices aren't bad.  The other stuff is ok too.

Lobby - Coffee shop with illy's coffee & small breakfast options!  Bar with tv's for games...lots of seating!  Shula's Steakhouse lunch/dinner

There are few four star hotels in Tampa at the moment, and no fivers. If you want a great hotel in the Tampa area, the two competing for your business are the Renaissance and the Intercontinental. The Intercontinental is a newer hotel with a very post-modern decor. The rooms are reasonably spacious, the furnishings are tasteful if a bit austere, and the beds are comfortable, although a bit high off the ground, which may be a concern for more elderly travelers or people with small children.

There is a bar in the lobby and they are connected to the Shula's Steakhouse next door.  The lobby is pretty underwhelming for such nice rooms, mostly due to the minimalist sytle of the designer who set up the place.

Service was average. Not bad, not great.  For as nice as the hotel looks, you would hope for better people working the check-in and the front door.

The hotel can only be accessed from one side of West Kennedy Blvd, so hitting it from the opposite approach during rush hour can be something of a challenge.

Pool was disappointing. Cold, on a rooftop location that is very windy. If you're going to have the pool up there boys and girls, KEEP IT WARM.

There is a mall across the street with restaurants and a 20plex AMC theater, which is a nice plus if you're traveling alone on business.

An excellent room. For overall experience, and a wider variety of eating experiences, I would still say that the Renaissance about 2 miles away is a much better stay.  The rooms aren't as great, by a small margin, but the amenities and location are better.

This hotel was not rated very high on tripadvisor but since it was close  to where we were going in Tampa we decided to stay here.  Rooms were very clean and had a updated look. People on tripadvisor were complaining about the bathroom being small but it didn't bother me at all..

For a four-star hotel I give this Intercon restaurant is a five. Close but not too close to Tampa International, excellent restaurant and bar/lounge in the lobby, excellent service and hospitality. Only downside was the hallway noise can be heard within the rooms and also people talking in adjacent rooms. The free wifi throughout the hotel is another plus.

Quite an establishment, as to be expected from the brand name.  I was here for 4 nights, and felt at home.

The room was rather large, with a big tv, and the bed was nice and comfy.  The conference rooms were top notch, the bar was great (tons of tvs for football) and the gym was pleasantly high end with a nice view from the top floor.

The hotel itself is a short jaunt from the airport and has a large mall within walking distance with plenty of choices for dinner.

This is a very nice business hotel. We stayed on the weekend just to get away and had a nice time. It's very cold feeling, very business like, very asture, which is ok in my opinion. No kids running down the hallway that's for sure! The rooms were nice, we had a nice city view. The room service prices are crazy as is the pricing downstairs at Shulas but there are plenty of other dining options around this area so it's not an issue. Self parking is a bit difficult and the valet's are pushy, but I find that a lot nowadays, so no issue.

The hotel is beautiful, and other than a couple of large annoyances, a decent place to stay.

Without these annoyances, I would probably give 4, possibly 5 stars.

While ordering room service, not only are the prices already inflated, but they add on a 21% gratuity and a $3 delivery charge.  They add that on without telling you, so like any normal person ordering food, you usually tip.  Well, I did just that, and ended up giving about a 60% tip, all totaled. My salad and juice ended up costing almost $30.  It was decent, but nothing spectacular by any means.  The juice was Dole, from a can.

The other problem was that their on demand movie system does not work, and there was nothing the engineer could do to fix it.

One last thing, if you use the soap, housekeeping doesn't leave any new soap for you.  I found that rather odd, considering the level of hotel this is.  A 4 day stay at supposedly a 4 star hotel, and I am only allowed one shampoo?  Strange.

For a hotel of this level, I found this rather disappointing.

This was my first time staying at InterContinental.  It is a nice hotel, about what you expect, the bed was EXTREMELY comfortable, we were going to see what kind of mattress it was, but forgot to do it before we left.  The only issues i had were 1) They had 3 elevators, but one of them wasn't working, so that just makes the wait times longer having to wait on the other two.  2) The in room refrigerator.  One would think that if a room has a fridge, you could put something in it.  NOPE.  It is stocked with food that you can buy, but NO ROOM to put leftovers in or anything else.  Was very disappointed by that.  What's the point of having it in there?  I'm not paying $6 for a bottle of water, or $2+ for a candy bar.  Put another fridge in the room if your going to fill it up with your own stuff, and don't say you have a fridge int he room on your web site, as it's VERY misleading.

Stayed here for business.  The room itself was nice.  Fully stocked mini bar, comfy bed, plenty of drawers, good closet, and very dark shades (which I'm a HUGE fan of).

NEGATIVE: BATHROOM! The shower head seemed to be dying, it wouldn't hold itself up properly and the amount of water that came through lacked pressure.  There was also a piece of HAIR near the bathtub.  I have stayed in their Miami location before and had the same issue with the bathroom.

This hotel is situated within an office building.  This makes it good for business travel but not for pleasure.

Overall this was a great hotel!  I would definitely stay there again, but I would request a room that was not on the end (it was round and on the small side  - the dresser had to be placed at an odd angle).  The only minor complaints I have aside from the room size/shape are that we never got our bathrobes, and it was kind of hard to get in and out of the hotel's parking deck and onto the street due to the way it was placed on the corner of Kennedy.

The room was very nice and clean, and the inside of the hotel was beautiful.  The bed was extremely comfortable.  The location is convenient and very close to I-275, Dale Mabry, and a variety of restaurants and shopping.  The self parking is free.  The front desk staff were very pleasant - they gave us an early check-in, and check-out was simple!

Always like staying at Intercontinental Hotels. Nice decor, comfy beds, clean, friendly and helpful staff. Only complaint was the wireless internet. Yes it was free but connection was very spotty at times. Signal dropped and could be quite slow. All in all, that's not enough to detract from an otherwise very nice stay.

Overall, the place was very nice.  Up to date decor, comfy beds and plenty around to do.  I did not necessarily like the fact that it was in an office building.  As I took the elevator down to get my Bloody Mary after I woke up, I was turned off by having to watch a bunch of people having meetings through their windows.  The bartenders were talkative and friendly.  It seemed like the parking garage was a LONG WALK from the front desk.

We stayed at this hotel because a relative was getting married and they recommended that their guest stay here. The room was nice and the beds were very comfortable, I got a great night's sleep. Other than that....i was disappointed. There was no microwave in the room, I was told if I wanted one it would cost $10 per night. The internet was $12.95 per night which I thought was crazy! Then the only refrigerator in the room was a mini fridge stocked with candy, sodas, and alcohol all ranging from $4 to $9. Yes, a candy bar was $4!!! Most of the shows on tv were pay per view. They also had two Fiji bottled waters in the room each costing $7 if opened! And also breakfast was not included unless you wanted to pay $13 for fruit, pastry, and a drink off their hotel menu. In other words this hotel was just a money machine, charging for every little thing. Definitely not a place to come if you don't have a lot of money to spend but if you do, go for it!

Although my family and I were just briefly stopping through Tampa on our way out of Orlando and home from vacation, this hotel was a terrific oasis and rest for the night.

Everything about the hotel was very luxurious and comfortable. Great beds, great bathroom. Lobby seemed to be a fairly active property with bar and restaurant and meeting facilities, but we didn't take advantage of any of those items.

Parking was free in attached garage (always a plus for me!). Hotel was located near a variety of restaurants and shopping opportunities if desired.

The hotel staff was super-attentive and helpful! Fantastic property, the next time I'm in Tampa I'll be checking for availability here.

Note: This is a high-end property on rates, but I got a fantastic deal on the room via Priceline.

What to say about my experience so far...well, the first room my wife and I were sent to was already occupied. Fortunately no one was in it when we opened the door so we avoided an unpleasant encounter. We returned to the lobby and were given another room without much of an apology from the staff. Thankfully, our new room was beautiful, clean, and unoccupied.

Despite the apparent loveliness of the room, our problems persisted. I went to turn on the very nice HDTV only to discover that it wasn't powering up. I went to investigate the problem and discovered that someone had unplugged every single input cable (there are about 12 of them including HDMI, RCA , and power cables.) Our refrigerator was also unplugged and therefore couldn't be opened, making the mini-bar inaccessible. When I called to report these problems the hotel staff remained unaffected, and made no attempt to offer us any upgrades and very little in the way of an apology.

Some other things you should know about the Intercontinental are that despite having around 8 wireless networks available, they all get the same sluggish speeds and take about 5 minutes to connect. The clientele during our stay (which granted was on a Saturday night) were rowdy and their behavior was not what I would expect from guests of a hotel of this supposed caliber. And beware the parking lot out back...

I'm writing this review after having only been checked in for an hour and a half. I'll update my post if anything changes for better or worse.

Short: Slightly-off Westin doppelganger.

Long: I really wouldn't be surprised if the same people who own Westin don't also secretly (or not so secretly, as I cannot be bothered to look it up) own Intercontinental.  The feel is similar from the lobby, business center, restaurant/bar, to the rooms.  (To be clear, I didn't use the pool, restaurant/bar, gym, or shuttle, so this review doesn't really include them.)

At least at this establishment, there are some things I would change.  The setting -- in an office building -- is weird, but fine.  The regular drapes seem to block enough of the outside (even the offices) that it shouldn't be a problem.  And if you really want to be naked in your room, and other people seeing you is a problem, it doesn't seem to be that big of a leap to say you might want to close your black-out drapes as well.  it does seem an odd choice though, rather than have the rooms above or below the offices, to be across from them.

The walls are not sound-proofed well enough.  If I can hear your toilet flush from my room, I'm not excited.  And while I luckily got a room far away from the elevators, I can imagine being next to them (not enclosed) would be a pain.  A lot of things in the room are not silent, but none so loud as could not be drowned out by my a/c.  The gap under the door, like most hotels is about 3/4in.  Why?

The bathroom is well-appointed, including a hair dryer and even a scale and the room has an ironing board, iron, and safe.

I'm here for work so the rate is nowhere near full price, even so, at the full rate or the rate I had, I'd like a quieter room.  I don't understand why places don't spend the little bit more up front to make it that much nicer for everyone who stays.  Silent rooms and no gap under the door, and everything else becomes minor.

If you can get in here for a discount, it's not bad.  Close to the interstate, and close to a few dept stores and a drug store in case you forgot something.

I'm reviewing this as an airport parking service.  Some airport parking websites offer the InterContinental's garage and shuttle service as paid airport parking, but you may also want to take this review into account if you need to use their shuttle.

The website says that their shuttle runs continuously every half hour from 5am-1am, but when I got there to drop my car off, they told me to call when I arrived anyway.  Fair enough -- maybe I'd get faster service that way.

I knew I was arriving on a late flight, but not so late that it would be an issue.  I called as I was grabbing my bag at 12:20am to let them know I was there, and they said it would come on the half hour until 1:00.  I was waiting at the shuttle pickup area by 12:25.

At 12:45, I called again, just to make doubly sure it was coming since 12:30 had come and gone with no shuttle, and I'd already seen a few of the shuttles twice by that point.  They told me the shuttle would be there at 1:00.  Okay -- a little less than "every 30 minutes," but not wholly unreasonable.

At 1:15, I called again to ask where the shuttle was, and they told me the shuttle driver had gone home for the night.  A bit peeved at this point, I asked why they had told me at 12:20 that a shuttle would pick me up if they were never planning to send it.  After politely but firmly trying to convince me I must be trying to catch it in the wrong place, (I was at the Blue 2 shuttle pickup area, exactly where they told me.) they weren't forthcoming with any solutions, so I had to ask if they would reimburse my cab fare. After making me re-explain the situation to another person, they put on hold for a few more minutes while they debated what to do.  Finally, they agreed to reimburse my cab fare.

2 stars because they took care of the situation, but I do feel like they should have been apologetic rather than accusatory, and offered to reimburse my cab fare on their own. (It was the only obvious solution at that point, and they didn't seem ready to offer it unless I asked.)

It does seem like a nice hotel, though I've never stayed there.  Just beware the shuttle.

The Intercontinental stands right up there with some of the best business hotels.  Over the last few stays here I've found the staff to be very accomodating and proactive in their service.

The meeting rooms work well, the AV/internet folks are johnny-on-the-spot.  PreMeeting breakfast, mid-morning and afternoon snacks have been first rate.  The meeting coordinator stops by AT LEAST three times/day to check that all is going well...unheard of in any of dozens of meeting sites I've used historically.

Free parking and, fortunately, plenty of dining spots close by.  Shula's Steak House is in the lobby but it will take a BIG dent out of your expense report....as will the grossly overpriced room service menu.

I had what they referred to as a "junior" suite..... large desk, full sofa and BIG screen TV in one room with a great view through curved windows on one corner of the building....a nice, comfy, king-size bed but with a standard bath.   It felt as spacious as an Embassy room but a bit plusher.

Overall a nice impression, nice rooms, accomodating hosts and good food options.  Keep it in mind for Tampa area meetings.

I love that this hotel is close to essentials- a mall, restaurants, the interstate, movie theater, drug stores... AND a Starbucks.  Location is everything, right!?  The InterContinental is best described as affordable luxury.  I got a pretty good nightly rate at this location.  The rooms were modern.  The cleaning detail needed a little attention- such as dusty corners.  Service from the front desk was ok.  The gentlemen at valet were really helpful.  Yep, they cheerfully repacked my car truck so that all four of us ladies' luggage (we each had a make up bag, clothing bag, shoe bag, snack bag, shopping bags.... ) could fit for the ride home.

Did advance booking from hotel's website, only to find that we were given a closet of a room with 1 queen bed, when we had booked a king.  When we came back down, to see if we could get a slightly larger room or at least a king or 2 twins, the oncall night manager introduced himself by stating "whats your issue". Rather than offering a solution to the problem, he stated "well, just to let you know by giving you the room (that we paid for), ill be kicking one of our employees on the street. Im doing this for you, just to let you know.". Maybe its just me, but I was shocked to hear something like this. We are two physicians who flew across the country to take our 8 hour board exam, and the last thing we wanted was a hassel, which ia why we booked this hotel.

The room service staff was great, and the room was average but clean  But its amazing how initial front desk service can make a huge impression on our stay. Needless to say, we'd rather not stay here again.

- Attractive hotel with many amenities and a friendly staff
- Great price on my weekend stay, though weeknights seemed significantly higher, presumably because of the adjoining office building which is closed on Sat/Sun.
- Conveniently located within walking distance of several fast food places, a Starbucks, FedEx Office (for business travelers), Walgreens, and a mall with several nice restaurants.
- Nice gym located on the top floor with a view
- Comfortable, well furnished rooms with a minibar, flat screen TV, large workstation, personal safe, and alarm clock with iPod/iPhone connectivity

- The pool, located on the 9th floor, is pretty small and basic, though it has some spectacular views of the city and gulf.
- I'm gonna shoot strait here...their hotel informational binder touts a focus on being green, but when I blow my nose and try to flush the single tissue down the toilet, only to realize that it's a FIVE flush endeavor, it's not only counter-intuitive, but frustrating as hell.
- The shower in my room was somewhat lukewarm, presumably because of the same green initiative.

All in all, however, I've had a good experience at this hotel thus far, and would stay here again, particularly given the value on a weekend stay.

Overall, we had a really nice stay here. The rooms were clean, and the service at the front desk was friendly and efficient. You can't beat the location -- just a few minutes from the airport, right across the street from a shopping mall, and easy access to the major roads and highways.

The only thing I didn't like about my room was the HVAC system. I found it tough to get the temperature right, and it didn't seem that the air was circulating very well. The temperature made it difficult to sleep, and there was the lingering smell of what I'm pretty sure was carpet shampoo. I mean, I'm glad they cleaned the carpets, but better air circulation would have eliminated the odor.

I didn't eat at the restaurant (typical), nor have a drink at the bar (very *not* typical!), so no comment on either of them. Free parking is available in the garage behind the hotel. There is a 24-hour Walgreen's across the street, as well both a Panera Bread and Starbucks to start your day off right.

I might choose a different hotel for my next trip to Tampa, just be in a different part of the city, but I would definitely stay at the InterContinental again.

Awful. Over priced rooms, thin walls could hear everyone coming in and out all night, could even hear other peoples conversations through the doors. Booked two rooms with two beds each- they gave us 2 rooms with one bed each. Worst of all was the late night concierge. My key card  STOPPED working and because my last name was not on the room they told me there was nothing they could do (which is a policy I accept!) but there was no need to be incredibly rude about it or refuse me any other options. I was attempting to be understanding and kind but because YOUR card stopped working all of a sudden I become a criminal who deserves to be treated like crap??! After I asked to speak to a manager one of them claimed "they were the acting manager" and offered to call  security on me. I can't believe the way I was treated. Seriously DONT EVEN CONSIDER staying here. And to top it all off after you pay $250 for your room they expect you to pay $16 for internet for 24 hours and $7 for a bottle of water. Hate you.

Nice hotel by the airport. Ended up in Tampa one night by mistake as I missed the last flight to Orlando. I found the room 3 hours before I checked in via Priceline for only $68!  Can't beat that.

Free shuttle service from airport. Staff was very friendly. Room was very clean and clean. No room service after 11pm except for premade sandwiches, which was a disappointment.

The exercise room was sufficient. The pool was small and just average. Definitely  not a place to hang out for any period of time.

HATE that they charge 12.95 to use the Internet. Given that I ONLY got the room for $68, I will give it four stars. Other than that, its a solid 3 1/2.

Definitely not the sexiest hotel, but it got the job done.

The InterContinental is a fine and dandy choice for business travel. It's not loaded with bells, whistles and novelties but it's a clean, professional and well run establishment to rest your head for a few nights.

I actually got a kickin' deal on Priceline for $75 a night, so I was pretty fired up about that for starters.  What I found to be the strangest thing about the location, is that the curtains of my hotel window pretty much opened up within an indoor space, with a nice view of business men and women staring out of their window cubicles. Awkward much?

There is a free shuttle to the airport, an Illy Coffee in the lobby and Don Shula's Steakhouse just a few paces away from the front desk. As for the hotel bar? Definitely not a prime locale to hang out...at all.

The room itself was fairly standard as well, spatially and cosmetically. No cool bath products to load up on either.

For a quick trip in and out of Tampa, you'll be fine for a few nights. However, if you're traveling to Tampa for social or recreational purposes, I would probably seek a stay elsewhere.

A good option for biz travel, but just eh if you're headed on vacation. However, it's worth noting that the hubby and I had just come from an amazing & charming hotel in St Martin so most hotels would pale in comparison.

The good:
Very clean room
Comfy bed
Adequate gym: treadmills, elliptical machines, bikes and even some weights
Across from the mall
Short drive from the airport
$159/night on New Years Eve during the Outback Bowl- not bad

The eh:
Tiny room/bathroom
Very dark rooms- could use a few more lamps in there!
Our "lovely" view was the inside of an office building...depressing much

I would consider this Intercontinental again for biz travel, but if I'm back again for pleasure I'll be looking for something with a bit more personality.

I've been here several times over the past few years. The ball rooms are decent. Nothing terribly fancy, the courtyards are a nice reprieve from the room which is normally has the AC set to freeze your ass off. Rooms are alright - Shulas has decent food overall a a typical business hotel just off the airport.

I've stayed in other Intercontinental hotels, so I was expecting a fairly upscale, decent place to stay. Just checked in and I am extremely disappointed already. Had a snarky, obnoxious girl at the check-in desk and the two temperatures on my shower are "very hot" and "scalding." Not really want you want on a humid Florida night. Terrible start to the weekend...

Nice hotel, nice price, very close to the airport. I don't know much about Tampa, but my stay at the Intercontinental there was a good one, and if I ever get to go back to Tampa, I'd definitely stay at this hotel.

I had a single king room; on the smaller side, but plenty of room for my 4 day stay. The desk was plenty large.

If you get a room on the business office side of the hotel, though, expect very poor wifi speeds. Their wifi vendor there needs to figure out how to make it better, so don't ask for a room facing the atrium.

Great room but the architect who conceived of the view of the interior offices should be tried for design treason.

The hotel is in a great location - close to the airport but not noisy, close to the malls and restaurants, and right near the interstate - but it's a weirdly uncomfortable feeling knowing that if you don't keep your shades tightly shut you'll give some office drone the show of her life.

Other positives about this hotel are that the bar has an extensive food menu and really good wine, the valet parking is very quick, and Shula's steaks are legit.

If you're staying in Tampa for an overnight business trip this is a good choice, but any longer than that and you may want to open the shades.

Great business hotel. Free self parking, good lounge (that serves Shulas food), and convenient location.

The meeting space is also very easy to access and we had nothing but rave reviews on the banquet food.

Probably not the best for leisure as most rooms look directly into an office building and the small rooftop pool looks at the parking lot.

When the receptionist told me I'd be luckily upgraded to a business executive suite, I instantly envisioned a secretary in a pencil-skirt, an ink dip for a fountain pen, and CLEARLY a 12-person conference room table awaiting my arrival only 11 floors overhead.

As the numbers in the lift lit up, I relished in what was soon to be my nightcap compartment. While every other room on my 11th floor had 1 door that granted them access to their modest dormitory, my executive suite came with 2 doors (a small standard we executives come to expect). Sadly, the secretary wasn't awaiting my arrival and neither was the ink dip for the fountain pen. The conference room table, however, was naturally holding out to hear that key card slip through the door, and the chairs did everything short of swivel when I walked in.

Rather than hitting the table for bed, I found my queen-size mattress just around the corner. Next to it, a sound machine lightly played some lounge-worthy electro. I danced, of course.

Now, if only I wish I could've had 10 other people in tow... it would've helped to fulfill the metaphorical summit.

We stayed here a couple of nights and overall I was very pleased with the room, especially for the price.  This hotel is probably due for some renovations as the rooms appear less than new.  I don't want to overstate this...but it's probably the reason for $150/day rates.  Otherwise...a great place...Very nice cigar store, illy espresso, Shula's Steakhouse, great location near the airport, free parking, free shuttles to and from airport, $10 shuttle to the Pier...no free internet, but I wasn't there on business.  I'd definitely stay again.

The boyfriend booked a pretty good deal through Priceline.com for our weekend stay. Upon arrival, the hotel lobby was nicely decorated and the staff welcoming. There's lots of lounge area and Shula's Steakhouse if that tickles your fancy.

WIFI is NOT free! Boohoo. It's about $13/hour. Otherwise, if you're on a budget, there's a business center downstairs with free computer access and ethernet cables for your laptops. I guess I'm used to staying in places with mini fridges to store leftovers in. There's only a stocked snack fridge and they will charge you $40 if you take out the items without the intent of eating the snacks. The fitness center is upstairs. Decent amount of equipment. No complaints there. Our hotel room was a little on the small side, but it did the job. It was clean and quiet. We ended up with a corner room that had a direct view of the dirty 2nd floor ceiling and parking garage. Make sure your blinds are shut!!!

Overall, would I stay at the InterContinental Hotel again? Probably not. But for the deal we received, it wasn't that bad. Just a few things here and there that weren't as convenient as another hotel would be.

My husband and I stayed here for his birthday and I was more than satisfied with the service. Jason and Natasha at the front desk went above and beyond in assisting me in making my husband's birthday special suggesting great places to go when I needed advice. When we missed or flight and booked another night over the phone Andrea canceled that reservation which included a downgraded room and booked us a better room at a better rate without us asking in order to alleviate the stress of our missed flight. Shalua's steak house was amazing! Their steaks were like butter in our mouth! Best steak and eggs I've ever had not to mention they were delivered to our room in 25 min hot and perfectly cooked. My only bad experience was the cab driver to the airport who was grumpy and gave us grief for using a credit card.

Where to begin- such mixed feelings about this hotel. Okay, positive first. The room was really nice with a very comfortable bed. I was there for a conference and the conference rooms were very comfortable to sit in all day, although cold. But I figure that was to keep us awake. The staff was pleasant and the food they fed us better than average. Really close to the airport and free shuttle service.

But... the design of the hotel is awful. Picture a round hotel attached and right in the middle of a U shaped office building. Both the hotel and the office were all windows. When I opened the curtains in my room I was looking directly into all the offices. And the office workers were looking back at me! So I couldn't open the curtains which made for a very dark room, day or night! No natural light ever. No balcony to sit out on. There I was in gorgeous weather with no way to sit outside. The pool was a slab of concrete on the roof. No shade, no greenery. If I wanted to sit out it was on a bench in the circular driveway watching cars come and go.

If I ever return to Tampa for a vacation this would be the last place I'd stay. Clearly a business destination only.

Stayed here for one night during our week long road trip down Florida.

I was going to give this a 4 star rating because:
- clean amenities
- roomy living space/bathroom
- well lit hallways and common space
- overall great deal

But... their wifi situation knocked it down to 2 stars. It's $12.95 per day PER DEVICE. we woke up the next morning to see a long bill charging us for 5 devices totaling $65!! The log in page is very misleading as it makes you think you're logging in under one account. Poor information given regarding this process makes a very unhappy customer checking out.

Nice hotel.  Quiet, clean and friendly staff.

The picture online is a bit misleading as the hotel portion is only half of the building.  The other half of the building are offices.  At first you think you only see the offices as you go up the elevator...but don't be fooled.  There is a chance your room may face the office atrium area, so make sure you draw your curtains or you'll be giving a show!

Friend got married here. I did visit the Shula's bar for a couple of drinks before the wedding, and found them stiff and expensive. I had a bland experience at the Shula's in the Tampa International Airport and stayed far from this location, but the wedding was great. Never found the parking so valeted, and a good time was had by all. In a location close to the mall and other bars and clubs for after-wedding party shenanigans. They had a great cigar shop inside that was a nice touch as well.

The room was a great size and very clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. They do have a parking garage where u can park for free or you can use valet for $18 a night.

The only downside to this hotel is that the pool very small and also there is no view from the a lot of the rooms. We basically had a view of the back of a building lol.

They do have a bar down stairs as well as a restaurant Shuala's and they have a lot of restaurants and stores in the area.

We only stayed one night. I wouldn't recommend it if you are traveling with kids for a long period of time because there isn't much for kids to do there.

They also so offer room service.

We live in nearby Fort Myers and came here for a bit of a holiday. This is a lovely hotel just across from a huge mall with tons of shops and restaurants.

The hotel has both an outdoor pool and a fitness center, but we forgot to bring our equipment to use them. The room itself was sufficiently large and perfect for us, including coffee & tea in the room.

The only in-house restaurant is a Shula's Steakhouse - sadly, a pathetic effort.

But overall, this is a very good hotel.

When I saw this come up on my "unwritten reviews" list, I smiled. Oh, this place.

We checked in on what was, I think, the last night of a larger conference. As a result, they gave away my room for the first night of my stay, since I have zero status with this particular hotel group. Annoying, but fine. The guy I was traveling with had super baller platinum status, so he had gotten upgraded to a junior suite with a crazy conference room attached...so I just slept on a roll-in bed in the conference room, rather than be put up at another hotel some 30 minutes away. They were very nice about the whole thing, gave us a bunch of drink tickets and comped our WiFi, etc. This doesn't really do much for me...the thing is, I don't drink, and I'm on an expense account. So, yes, while it does save my client money and that's good, it really has no impact on me. It would be nice if they could do something for my inconvenience, but whatever, it was fine.

I was called the next day early, telling me that my own room would be ready that night, and that there would be an "amenity" waiting for me. I asked them to make a note - I wouldn't be back to the hotel until *very* late, 2-3am, so please don't think I'm not coming back. Noted, they said. So when I got back to the room, what was the amenity? A cheese plate. Which made the room smell like bleu cheese. I dumped it outside the door and went to bed.

Next day - looks like everyone else got the same cheese plate. The guy with the conference room put his plate on top of the garbage can, indicating, "please throw". But the next night? Still there, moved back to his conference room table. OK. He tried again the next day. Back on the garbage can in the morning, back on the table in the evening. So he puts it back on the garbage can. By this point, it's our last night...so I told him that if it's still in the room when he gets back, he needs to bring it down when he checks out and tell them they should keep it if they're so attached to it...but alas, someone finally figured out he didn't want that thing, and it finally got thrown.

As for the hotel? The room was fine, beds comfortable. Breakfast was pretty good, although pretty expensive. Par for the course in a downtown hotel like this, I suppose, but always slightly annoying to me. There was also a large contingent of Norwegian air force and naval officers staying at the hotel - including some serious brass, like an Admiral and a couple of Colonels. I would have like to know what they were up to, but didn't feel like bugging them.

So would I come back? No, I'm a Hilton guy. But was the hotel fine? Yes. I don't really blame them too bad for the room given away thing since it didn't put me out too bad.

This experience was so much better!  As before the room was extremely clean.  CheckIN went very smooth.  They knew I was bringing my kids and we were set to arrive late at 11pm.   They had cookies and milk waiting for them and a cheese plate waiting for us adults.  They also had the sofa bed already pulled out!!  Nice little touches that go a long way!  Was surprised there still are no refrigerators in the room but hey I guess this is more of a "business" hotel.  Anytime I travel on business my company pays for my food so I eat out.  Rumor has it you can request a mini fridge and they will bring you one if they have one available but there are no microwaves so ummm... I do think they should have a couple "personal" rooms.  Those rooms could have TVS and small mini fridges.  I still say they should have VENDING MACHINES.

Oh the aroma in the parking garage is soooo good.  Be prepared to be hungry for some steak.

Pool was closed so we couldn't check it out.  I think it was due to weather.

I would recommend this hotel to friends and family.  The most important thing is that it's quiet and very clean.  I'm a huge stickler when it comes to hotels and clean.  This one is very clean.

The business center is well equipped.  We had to print our tickets for Busch Gardens.  It was no problem at all.  We went to the business center and printed right away- no hassle no charge.

Thanks for the awesome experience!!!

Beautiful hotel and great location. Checkin process was smooth and front desk staff was great. Housekeeping and room service staff tried but missed multiple times. Housekeeping only gave us one coffee packet (although they replaced our two coffee cups) and only one low-ball glass. Called desk and asked for another low-ball and 2 different people brought 2 hi-ball glasses to the room. Ordered breakfast via door hanger - egg white omelette with mushrooms, sausage and spinach. Received a regular omelette with no sausage. Was running late and couldn't do anything except eat what I was given. Overall I'd stay here again. But very disappointed with the service.

Mixed feelings but overall the end result is simply this: unsatisfied. The rooms are nice and clean, some are spacious and others are twists and turns and weird layouts to accommodate all of the furniture.

Water pressure for both the sink and the shower vary greatly. The shower head in the suite we were in was actually a detachable hose, but the hose kinks up eventually and starts to turn the shower head from the pressure, so basically you have to remove the hose or just keep pointing the shower head back to the center or just stand crooked if you want to get a full shower done.

The Air conditioner-- very weak here. Set to 65 and the room barely got down to 73. Not bad but when it's 90 degrees outside, you'd be much happier seeing 65 on the AC. Unfortunately it was also a very humid AC and it made the room feel swampy and stuffy.

Was it cheap though? You bet. Would I come back? Not if they paid me.

Customer service was top notch though and parking assistance was friendly and helpful.

Actual price per room should be no more than 149.

Stayed in the hotel for three night, great room, clean and comfortable. The front desk staff seemed a bit out of sorts but I assume that was because they were just busy. The valet staff is quite good and efficient. I am not a big fan of the whole stocked bar thing they got going on and $7.00 for a bottle of water is a bit much even for Tampa. But we just did not drink it. Other than that it was fine, water pressure is excellent, temperature control was wonderful, view from my room very decent. Overall and great stay. Good Job!

So I came here for a seminar I had to take. Drove on to the ramp and was asked if I wanted to valet for $18 a day or self park. I told them self park and was directed to make two rights.  My vendor paid for the hotel and food, no additional services. We checked in and they requested a credit card which I was fine with. They said there was a pool and gym upstairs. We were directed to the elevators that will take us to the rooms. The hotel is located in between a office building. I walked into my room, it was pretty nice king size bed but my view was office building and people staring at me. Lovely. So in regards to the seminar it was very well taken care of catered and just very good! My room the second day, was never cleaned. I had to call at around 2pm to get it services and she was here in 2 minutes. It was not organized just made the bed and cleaned the bathroom. The pool was small but nice peaceful not even lounge chairs and a bit over dated. I complained that our AC wasn't working properly the first night and front desk took care of it immediately and got two free breakfast passes that were valued at $21 each. The breakfast was okay nothing out of this world. At check out I was charged for an orange juice that I never took from the mini fridge so don't took it has sensors! Overall a 3 not a big deal.

2. No towels in the room at all when we were back to the room on 2nd day.
3. A bottle of cleaning stuff leaving on the sink.
4. Not refill coffee, creamer and tea in the room.
5. Complained to the manager, she asked if I wanted restaurant credit. Of course not, it has bad review and the credit will not cover full two meals.

I booked a room for one night as a simple airport stopover so that my family could get a good nights sleep in Tampa before heading onward.

I have two young kids and confirmed with the hotel that there would be no issue with setting two cribs set up in the room when I made the reservation.  I reconfirmed with the hotel the day before travel and I called again from the airport when we were a few hours away.  The hotel confirmed three times that there would be two cribs set up in our room.

We checked in at midnight and upon check in the front desk worker again confirmed there were 2 cribs.  When we got to the room, there was only one crib.  I called down to the front desk every 20 minutes for the next 80 minutes.  It took the hotel over an hour to tell me they "ran out of cribs".  It was now after 1 in the morning with no place to sleep my children.  The hotel apologized all over themselves and picked up our breakfast, but the hotel failed at delivering what I paid for and made no effort to comp my stay.

I paid for a night of sleep for my family and they were unable to deliver on that.  I purposefully booked a nice hotel to avoid any issues.

If you require your hotel to follow through on anything, please stay elsewhere.  I did not get what I paid for.

For a 4 star hotel I expect a lot more. Let's start with the basics. Air conditioning did not work at all! It was set on 65 but no air was blowing out. I did not get to sleep whatsoever. The shower was also not working properly and the drain did not work. Little things like this to me matters. Really I just want some AC in the summer after all I paid for a good night's sleep.

Staff seemed to cater to the "high profile" guests (good tippers I'm guessing). It wouldn't kill them to at least smile at us! Don't worry I will not bother you with any requests.

I do not care about the view as this was only a one night stay but I wouldn't go back nor would I recommend anyone to stay here. There are other hotels that will be much more accommodating. Oh and you will probably have a working AC unit! If I need to pay for a 5 star hotel in order to get AC something is wrong with the world.

After experiencing some horror stories with Holiday Inn Express and Courtyard by Marriott in St. Petersburg, this hotel really stands out! Amazing service! Everyone really helpful and professional. Beautiful rooms, the AC was not loud, the beds are comfy, and the internet was working well. Finally - there are good hotels in Tampa area! Yes!
Love that there is a scale in the bathroom (really useful if you are away from home for weeks or even months!)
Free parking (for everyone) and free Wi-Fi if you are a Rewards member, nice medium size gym (11th floor) and outside pool (9th floor). We even received a complimentary fruits and Fiji water bottle upon arriving. They also have Fiji water bottle in a room that costs $7. The mini fridge is really full, with sensors, but you can ask for a separate mini fridge for no extra charge.
It's really nice that they also have a bar, cafeteria and a souvenir shop downstairs. Close by is mall (Sears, JC Penneys, Macy's, etc). You can have dinner at PF Changs, Maggiano's, Olive Garden, Cheesecake Factory, and many more. 15 min away is Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, if you like to play.
Free shuttle to the airport.
The cons:
1) The pool area is also a smoking area. It's really disturbing to enjoy the sun, relax... and sniff the cigarettes. Specially if you come with kids.
2) No breakfast included.
3) Not many good movie channels on TV, like ABC Family or Lmn. Mostly news.
4) Loud yelling going on during mornings - from the staff (I think it was Executive Housekeeper or some sort of Housekeeping Manager that was yelling at cleaning ladies in a very rude way. It was unprofessional, rude and disturbing). To be honest, I felt so sorry for these ladies who were yelled at and still doing good job.

This is a good hotel which I classify more as a solid one for business travelers more so for commuters looking for convenience than being a posh location with resort like amenities.

They offer a free shuttle service from the airport to the hotel (wish I knew that ahead of time) as well as a free shuttle service from the hotel to the airport (which is how I found out about this value added bonus service!)  It's ultra convenient since the airport is only about 10-20 mins (depending on traffic) from the Hotel, and the shuttle comes every 30 minutes at the top of the hour and at the half, so it's customer centric scheduling and very accommodating.

The rooms are nice.  I usually have one standard I hold the hotels I stay at up to, which is just personal preference which is whether there's a separate stand up shower VS having a shower-tub.   I prefer a separate shower and not showing standing in a tub with a shower curtain.  But it's not a deal maker nor deal breaker, just a comment.

My room overlooked the courtyard and across the way a business building where in the morning you can see people getting into their offices and working, so in that way it's not a scenic view and does feel like a non-resort hotel.

The 9th floor pool is the Anti-South Beach vibe, so if you're thinking of a DJ spinning EDM or bikini babes lounging, think again.  It's functional and small.

This place is home of a SHULA's however.  There's a bar lounge area as well as the dining restaurant.

Also, in taking a ride to some of the local restaurants, I couldn't help but notice ('tho did not partake in any) there were a lot of sketchy looking massage parlors and quite a few "gentleman's" strip clubs within walking distance or a 10 min drive on the streets to the hotel, which also makes me think this is a solid "businessman's" hotel for travel.  All that's missing is having an in-house Cougars bar for local to hang out and mingle.

So, this is conveniently located for what every business traveler may want and need.  It's near the airport.   The area and neighborhood feels very safe and nice to walk around. It's in proximity to good food as well as having a solid steak house in the facilities.  It's no frills, so you're not over paying for stuff you're not going to use or need.  It's close by to some deadly sins and vices.  It's very clean and friendly.

What puts this hotel over the top for me and earns it the 4th " * " star is the FREE AIRPORT SHUTTLE SERVICE.

Nice, clean hotel with very polite and helpful staff.  The hotel is located in the middle of two huge office buildings which are all connected.  Glass elevators take you to your room and you can see the people below in the atrium and also across from you working hard in their offices.  The view from most of the rooms is also of the people working in their offices on the other side of the atrium.  I thought this was an interesting concept for a hotel.

The room was quite nice with two double beds.  The beds were very comfy, but my only complaint about them is they are really small double beds.  My hubby slept the majority of the night on about 2 inches of bed because I was taking it all. LOL  He woke me up several times during the night to tell me to move over because he was falling off the bed (literally).

The bathroom was nice and large.  I give them major kudos for the water pressure.  It was amazing.  Best water pressure I have ever had at a hotel.

I didn't like the fact that the mini-fridge in the room was completely stocked full.  There wasn't even enough room to put a bottle of Gatorade in it.  It also had sensors, so you couldn't remove anything to put something else in for a little while.  As soon as you moved something, it charged you for it.

The pool is a rooftop pool and is located on the 9th floor.  It's a very small pool, but it will get the job done for anyone wanting to take a swim.  We did go up and watch the sunset and it was quite lovely.  It's also has the chair which lowers people with disabilities into the pool.  I've only ever seen that at a few YMCA's before, so I am very happy they are keeping people with disabilities in mind.  There are towels at the pool area and they also have a 5 gallon Zephyrhills water bottle with cups.

There is a Shula's located downstairs and the bar for Shula's extends from the restaurant into the lobby.  We didn't eat at the restaurant; although, hubby did enjoy looking at all the Dolphins memorabilia as he is a huge Dolphins fan.

There is valet parking for a fee, but they do also have a garage where you can park yourself at no charge.

They offer free transportation to and from the airport.

There is a mall located across the street with an AMC movie theatre.

I would have given 4 stars if it weren't for the fact the beds were so darn small and also because at 8:55pm (5 minutes before the pool closed), they came and kicked us out in a rather rude way.  We were just sitting at a table on our iPads.  There was no one else there and we were not even talking.  They could have waited until at least 9 and they could have been more polite about telling us the pool was closing.  The one male employee even shouted across the pool area to a female employee, "Hurry up and lock that door before someone else comes up here."  Really?  Very rude and unprofessional!

Which reminds me, the wifi is not free.  Another reason they only get 3 stars.

The front desk people are super friendly, along with the room service and restaurant people.  It's a beautiful location basically in the middle of an office building across from a mall.  The 9th floor outdoor "rooftop" pool has some breathtaking views.  When we stayed there the whole hotel smelled like nail polish, the room was hot despite setting the A/C as low as it could go (65), the shower I thought was broke because the hot water took 5 minutes to kick in, and the only fridge was a mini bar so we had no place to keep our stuff cold.

With that being said this place has all the amenities and feel of a 4 star place and I wasn't dissatisfied with my stay, it just felt like there were a few inconvenient things that the other hotels didn't have.

This is a nice hotel... It's clean, the staff is friendly and the rooms are comfortable...

Being 6 foot 5, it was very difficult sleeping on the double bed.... I had very little room to move and struggled to stay on it the entire night...

The pool area was nice and clean, although the pool isn't very large...

May stay here again in the future if need be.

If you are familiar with the Intercontinental brand, this place might throw you off a little bit.  It's not what you expect, but they do their best with that they have.  The hotel is bizarrely situated in a building that also doubles as an office building.  While you're riding the elevator up, you can look across the building into offices.  The whole thing just felt weird.  When I imagined Tampa, this isn't what came to mind.  This place has much more of a business feel than beach/vacation feel.

The rooms are nice (albeit a bit outdated), and the staff are friendly (but lack proper training when it comes to the IHG Ambassador and Royal Ambassador  program).

My best advice is to take advantage of the breakfast rate (additional $10 per day).  The breakfast at Shula's Steakhouse is excellent!  Plus, if you're a points hound like I am, you can even make a reservation each morning using OpenTable to get the points.

I have ironically passed this hotel countless times in my days living in Tampa, but never made it inside until our most recent trip to the city. It is located on the corner of Kennedy Blvd (a major intersection in the heart of South Tampa) and inside an office building. Kind of strange for a hotel, but if anyone is familiar with the city, there is not a whole lot of space.

We were there with a group and were greeted by the friendly hotel staff as soon as we arrived. We got there before our check in time and fortunately got lucky that our room was ready. It was a very clean, somewhat spacious room with a view of the city. We didn't hang out in there much except to get ready and to sleep, but I will say that the conveniences of the room were very handy. The one and only gripe I have is upon returning from dinner, we hoped to find a fridge to store our leftovers. Instead we found a mini bar with little to no room for anything. My husband tried to arrange some things without touching them as all the items were on censors. We know this because the hotel tried to charge us for something we didn't use. A simple call down to the desk and it was fixed, but a fridge in the room would have been nice. Oh, I lied, I have one other gripe, because I am vertically challenged, I found myself having to step on the scale to reach the sink properly (true story.) My first attempt at washing my face turned into a mini shower. Other than that, the room was very nice, the bed was super comfy, the robe was a nice feature and the view wasn't bad. I would probably stay at an Intercontinental again in the future.

My husband and I come down to Tampa once or twice a year and we have stayed in a few different hotels. This one is our favorite. It's got clean, quiet rooms and competent, friendly staff. If you call housekeeping or maintenance for something (e.g., more towels, a burnt-out lightbulb) they will respond very quickly, which is not something you get at every hotel.

The only reasons I give it 4 stars rather than 5 are:

1. Their key cards get de-magnetized really easily. My husband and I have had to get replacement keys three times in the past four days.
2. The parking spaces in the garage are too narrow, not just by Florida standards but by any standards. I know they share the garage with the adjacent Urban Centre but I'm pretty sure they could work something out with them and have the spaces repainted so they are a more reasonable size.

Pro tip: level 2 of the parking structure is for hotel guests only, but levels 5 and 6 have lots more empty spaces.

Other than the issues I described above, I really like this hotel, and my husband and I will be staying there on future visits.
