Location is great, less than 10 min from airport. There is a shuttle available from Tampa airport. This is more more motel-like in that each room entrance is from the parking lot and not one main entrance from the lobby. The biggest issue was the terrible plumbing that my room had. You could hear the loud banging of water pipes early in the morning. This is not a slow drip but literally banging sounds! Perhaps all rooms have this issue so beware!

This inn is located right by the Raymond James stadium where massive GB Packers fans were walking to for the Tampa game (which they lost 38-28).  It's also near the George Steinbrenner field & the TPA airport.  It's basic, clean, with breakfast so you just can't complain.  It probably deserves more stars esp for its fab location but it's just not luxurious so for what you get it's better than bare bones.  They were definitely fully booked as I heard the clerk turning people away who inquired & the rate is $56-$79 depending on how early u book.

I'm giving this hotel 5 stars because considering the inexpensive price, it was very good. The front desk staff was friendly and checked us in over an hour early with no issues.  Our second floor room was definitely nostay frills, but newly remodeled and very clean.  There is a large mall with many restaurant options (The Cheesecake Factory, Brio, Bar Louie, etc) within a ten minute walk, but when we stayed it was raining, so the free shuttle got us there in about two minutes. Very close to the airport and a free shuttle to take you there every 60 minutes starting at 445am.  Wifi was free. Much better than we expected in this price range-will definitely stay again if flying out of Tampa.

Conveniently by the airport and near great places to eat...and right across the street there's a MALL!...oh yeah and the reason for our visit...right near the Stadium (US Soccar VS. El Salvador, good game US got winning goal in seconds before game was over)

i was pretty impressed by the place. the rooms are pretty small but they style of the room makes up for it. i did like the tropical feeling i had since I'm not used to staying at places like this.

We booked our room months in advance of our cruise.  The day of our flight we call to verify that we would be picked up by the shuttle bus.  They advised us the the shuttle bus would stop running at 12:45 a.m.

Our flight was scheduled to arrive at 12:43 a.m.  Why they don't run the shuttle until the last flight is in makes no sense to me.  However, we arrived at 12:32 a.m. and we called immediately.  We were told they would not pick us up.

We took a taxi to the hotel.  We were told upon arrival that they had overbooked and that all that was available was a "smoking room".   Methinks not indeed.

We ended up sleeping on the hide-a-bed sofa in the suite that our friends rented.  The mattress was appalling (theirs too).  All night long I could feel the wires from the mattress (mattress?).

To their credit, the young man behind the counter was courteous and credited the price of the cab (less tip) to our friends' room charge and gave them a suite (it was the only thing available) at the room rate.

Any chance we'll book a room at another La Quinta?   Methinks not

A clean comfortable stay. And the free shuttle goes to the airport as well as the nearby mall which is packed with restaurants.

room was clean and quiet.  they over booked but found our prepaid reservation....rooms basic but no fridge....they have airport shuttle but it as well was very overbooked. get there early even if you sign up.  we weren't aggressive and push in so we had to wait for another and almost missed flight.Even though we were leaving before breakfast started the food was put out early which was super!

Yep, 5 stars. I usually don't give chain places 5 of anything unless service was beyond my normal expectations, so you guessed it, this place had really good service!

I stayed here before a cruise. I was able to get free shuttle from the airport to stay at La Quinta, and they also helped arrange shuttle service to the port of Tampa (that was 10 dollars though). I wish I remembered the lobby guys name (I did write up a good thing about him before we left), because he helped us first time cruisers get all our paperwork in order. Apparently we failed to print out some stuff and he gladly informed us and then printed out our stuff for us. That was beyond my expectation and why this place gets 5 stars.

This La Quinta is next to IHOP (not Denny's!) so if you don't like the regular continental breakfast you can easily walk over to IHOP. We also were conveniently located near a mall which we walked over to and ate and shopped.

Great friendly service. I will go back to this place if I cruise out of Tampa or need to come to Tampa again.

Stayed here for the Outback Bowl, 2010.  A few points

Location: 5 out of 5
Easy shuttle service from the airport.  Remember to go to Blue 2 or Red 2, as those are the pickup locations.  Free shuttle takes you there in about 10 minutes.  It's run by Veterans Limousine, and I got the chance to talk to one of the head guys (Gio) during my two day stay in Tampa. It's right by an IHOP, so if you get hungry in the middle of the night, that's your stop.

Amenities: 2 out of 5
This is a pretty old motel.  The doors open out into the outdoor hallway.  There's a fairly simple breakfast: bagels, bread, cereal, milk, some pastries.  The towels are rough, the toilet paper is rougher, but I mean, it's La Quinta, not a 5 star resort.  Oh yes, and get a load of the older TV's - the ones with curves in the middle of the screen.  Hah. There IS an outdoor pool, however.

Friendliness of Staff: 5 out of 5
All the people I talked to were very friendly and nice.  Sure, we're bringing them Outback Bowl money, but it still felt nice to be greeted with a kind smile and nice words.  They even made recommendations (which turned out to be great) for a cab service.  I needed extra bath towels the second day because we got drenched at Raymond James, and housekeeping brought them up promptly.

Overall: 3 or 3.5 out of 5.
Definitely not the worst place you could stay, and I'm always fairly happy with what PL has to offer in their vacation packages.  This was no different.  Comfortable and spacious rooms, friendly staff, and I would definitely stay here again if I was on a budget.

Tracy R & Laura M have it right. Great service and price.
I came into TPA at around 11:45pm a suddenly needed a room. Too late for Priceline, I began to make calls. I called 6-7 hotels near airport and all were quoting between $109-159 for the night. I dove into Yelp! a little deeper and saw Tracy R's review. Quick call led to Iceiss (like the goddess 'cept spelled different... name that movie) and I had a room. AND still had free shuttle service!
Super friendly, both driver and Iceiss, the evening ended with:
Clean room
Excellent price ($59 + taxes)
Fabulous service
Shuttle ride back and forth
Continental breakfast

Other comments:
Recently renovated. Were still painting some things.
Continental is continental, coffee, juice, eggo type waffles, toast, yogurt, oatmeal, and hard boiled eggs.  There is an IHOP in the parking lot.
Can be noisy from airport, occasional jet noise.
Mall across street, headed over there now before free shuttle back to airport.

Thank for saving me last night!

Have stayed there dozens of times on business travel, then while moving to Tampa.  Very convenient to the Airport, Interstate I-275 and Veterans Expressway.  Minimal aircraft noise presumably due to good insulation, and free airport shuttle service.   Good free Wi-Fi service, and easy check-in/out. Rates are reasonable and rooms are very adequate & clean.  This Inn is like most in the La Quinta chain, predictable, reliable, mid-range prices and amenities and frequent guest "Rewards" points for free stays.

Continental breakfast is provided, so you have coffee and something to eat as you get up.   Like most such "free" breakfasts, it is heavy in calories/starches, but usually some fruit, yogurt and sometimes meat/egg options. A 24-hour IHOP is next door for more food options. Also very close to International Mall and Westshore business district for more food/shopping opportunities.

La Quinta continues to be our reliable, good value choice when traveling.

Wish there would have been a hot tub. Wifi was good but would have been nice to have some towels in our room and someone not running loud machinery at 8am when we were trying to sleep

I read someones review and to confirmed, yes, wayyyyyy to expensive for La Quinta as they promote in Tv how great, cheap and comfi is, not even close. Affortable by 50 or 60 but over 100 dol. no way. I prefer somewhere else. I heard even a motel near tampa airport 500 dol for three days, because of some futbol season.... Lamee and terrible excuse.

I had a 7 a.m. flight out of TPA the next day so I decided to stay at the La Quinta Inn Tampa Bay Airport hotel. I dropped my car off at Tampa, then called for the La Quinta shuttle. It showed up within 10 minutes, which was great, and took me to the hotel.

When I arrived, there was no one at the desk to check me in. Ten minutes later there were several of us still waiting. Finally, I checked in and walked to my room. That was when I realized the rooms were set up motel-style with entry to each room from the parking lot. And, of course, there were a bunch of people hanging out in the parking lot when I went into my room, which always makes me feel uneasy.

The room looked clean enough, but as I settled in for what I hoped would be a good night's sleep, a dog next to me started barking...constantly. Finally I called the front desk. They told me they'd reach out to the guests. Ten minutes later they said they couldn't reach them and would move me.

They moved me down the hall on the same floor. At this point, it was later than I had wanted to go to bed so I fell asleep immediately. Less than three minutes later, I heard cheers from the room next door. It sounded like six people were watching a sports game. Now, this was a nightmare. I called and asked to be placed in a room without anyone on either side. They obliged. They made me carry all of my stuff upstairs (no elevator) to the far corner of the motel. They assured me no one would be on either side of me. As I laid down, I could hear people in the parking lot and realized that this room had an A/C unit that was set to autoadjust and that I couldn't run the fan to drown out the outside noise. Ugh. I finally fell asleep and got about 4 hours of sleep.

I'm giving this place one star because they shouldn't have put me next to a room with a dog in the first place seeing that I all I came here to do was sleep. They shouldn't allow dogs in the hotel. They shouldn't have put me next to six people the second time. And they should allow you to run the fan as white noise. And to top it off, the shuttle in the morning only runs every hour! So, you either end up at the airport too early or too late. I will never stay here again.

It's not fancy, but the staff is great, the beds are astoundingly comfortable (especially for this price point) and there's a free airport shuttle. I've stayed twice and for a cheap motel, it's really a great value.

Awesome for what it is!! Clean, comfy enough beds, and a great price! I am comfortable letting our toddler run around without shoes or fear of unknown ickyness too. You definitely hear (sometimes feel) the airplanes but we specifically wanted a place that was close to the airport sooooo... Super nice, helpful, pleasant staff which is always a big bonus in my book. Wifi is free and no password required, another bonus. We didn't bring our pets, but they are pet friendly- yet another bonus and good to know! Not much to look at or do, but again, we are here to sleep and fly out in the morning, although it looks like there are plenty of options really close by. We will stay here again when we fly back in and out of Tampa!

Look, people: it's a motel. What are you expecting? You get what you pay for, and for $74, you get a $74 motel.

Our experience was a very clean room, friendly staff, and extremely comfortable beds. We booked via Expedia with no issues. Only slight gripe is the breakfast room isn't all that great. But again: you get what you pay for.

Would stay here again.

+ across street from Busch Gardens
+ close to every type of food imaginable
+ close to Yuengling tasting room
- breakfast is pretty lame
- outdoor access to all rooms
- parking lot is small for the size of this motel

I was looking for a cheap place to stay while visiting Tampa. I used Hotwire and ended up with La Quinta. For $46. The going rate on the website was $77. For $46 this hotel is A OK, but for $77 it's more two stars.

The location was great off the highway. We we're visiting the University of Tampa and it was an easy ten minute drive over. When in Tampa I enjoy visiting Cigar City Brewery, so it was nice to see the hotel was only about a mile away from the brewery.

The La Quinta is well kept for what it is. First impression was good. The rooms look nice for this level of hotel, though the bathroom is dated. The beds however weren't comfortable and the pillows are poly filled.  Yes, you are next to an airport so it will get loud shortly after 6am. I had a the fan on all night and white noise playing on my phone, but the planes make a loud rumble and nothing but possibly ear plugs will help. If you need to get up early it won't be a problem.

I'm not a fan of motels.  These cheap lodging accommodations can always make for an interesting stay. We didn't have any issues with guests, so that was nice. I found the staff here to be friendly and helpful.

Next visit I'd probably spend the extra $20 on Hotwire and shoot for a nicer 3 star hotel. Though if I do need to save some cash I would stay here again.

The only reason I gave it two stars vs just one star is the price.  I have stayed at many La Quinta hotels over the years, this is by fay the worst. The room was advertised and booked as a no-smoking room, when we walked in the doors you could just taste the cigarette smoke, the bed was rock hard and the breakfast was skimpy even by hotel standards. I will not stay at this location again, and was actually so ticked off by it, the following night my wife and I stayed at a Baymont inn when we were completing out trip to North Florida in Lake City, for ten dollars cheaper we had a much nicer room.

Edit on 10-31-2014 The hotel manager attempted to contact me but I was at work, I appreciate that as it shows the do care about the service they provide, however my review stands and I called it like it was for me and my wife that night, they may provide others better service, but that night they failed to provide it to us.

This is solidly a La Quinta. Definitely nothing fancy, but it was clean, which sometimes feels like a lot to ask for from a motel these days. The beds were not super comfortable but were serviceable. I do wish there had been a plug for my cell phone nearer the bed, but again, it's a cheaper motel, so it's not something to knock. The front desk person and shuttle driver were both friendly, efficient and made my stay more pleasant. Nothing life changing, but would stay here again if needed.

Very bad service,
Rooms need a lot of maintenance.
They don't have experience to host many people.
Their water heater is small for the number of the rooms. When I went to the lobby to tell them, she was very mean and said, what can I do, there are one water heater for each building.

Don't believe the naysayers. For the bargain price I received on Hotwire, La Quinta was worth every cent and a 5 star stay for the hotel category. From the very clean, smartly remodeled rooms, fluffy white towels and a shower that provided instant hot water and a stress relieving spray to the in-room amenities of a hair dryer, coffee maker with caf and decaf coffee, microwave, mini fridge, large flat screen tv that easily swivels and a good sized table and comfy chairs, if you choose to order in (the hotel has a concierge service for meals and various local restaurant also left their food menus). The bed mattress was akin to that of a plush hotel with its padded cover. Cotton bed linens and a Euro duvet made for a peaceful night's sleep. May I recommend room 123? Its back corner location made for a very quiet evening.
The very pleasant night clerk, Luis informed me of the breakfast in the hotel lobby. Even with availability at 6am, I had to take food to go because of an early morning flight. The impressive food selection included bagels, muffins, toast, waffles, fruit, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, cereals and an assortment of beverages.
A shuttle to and from the airport is available and the rental cars are on site at the airport. With a short 6 minute ride to the gate, this hotel could not be any more convenient.
Note to staff, the map app on my "smart phone" failed the location test and put me on the wrong block. An update will save your guests time and frustration.

Stayed here in February the night before our cruise, and the night after we returned.  Very Clean rooms, wonderful staff!  Pool is clean and inviting.  24 hour IHOP right next door.  Breakfast in hotel limited but acceptable.  They do subcontract their shuttle so make sure you work this out at front desk before making any plans.  We did have a problem with shuttle but Manager resolved this as soon as notified.  GREAT place to stay and price is fantastic!

A budget hotel.  First room I checked into had some kind of odor, so I checked into another room, and it had a similar
smell so I concluded it was probably the detergent they use when washing the linens.  Smells kind of like body odor, not
very pleasant.  The room is also noisy, as you can hear lots of random noises outside.
since it's near the airport.  No gym, and the morning breakfast had very few options and no hot food.
The plus is it's in a great location, and the front desk staff was friendly.

The rooms have been recently updated and gave nice Samsung flat panel televisions.   One downfall is that they allow pets on premises and that can and does lead to fleas.   I found out the hard way,  but the hotel staff took care of me for my inconvenience.   That is why I give them 4 instead of 3 stars.
The location is great for watching planes take off and land at TPA and for dining anywhere your heart desires.   It is just minutes away from International Plaza and a few more from West Shore Plaza.
