Established in 1838.

The Ballastone Inn has been awarded two commemorative plaques, one from the Historic Savannah Foundation and one from the National Trust.

John W. Anderson, a Major in the Confederate Army commanding Fort McAllister when it fell to General Sherman in 1864, used 14 South Broad Street as a Town house upon his visits to Savannah. The Anderson family sold the Town house in 1873 to William Butterby, a prominent Savannah Cotton Factorize owner.

Captain Henry Blun, a German emigrant, bought #14 South Broad Street in 1888 and expanded it to it's current size by 1895.

1925, the Blun home was sold and became the City Progressive Club, a prohibition era speakeasy.

1932, now on East Oglethorpe, the Wyatt family turned the home into a boarding house.

14 East Oglethorpe Avenue was called the Lester House from 1932 until 1949 when it was sold and turned into apartments for the World War II workforce.

April of 1969 purchased by Girl Scouts of America as house overflow.

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!  Pricey, but well worth it.  Jim, Jennifer and their staff make it so easy to relax and enjoy yourself.  Great location - let them park your car -you can walk all over downtown. We stayed in the Victoria Suite and enjoyed everything The Ballastone had to offer:  breakfast, afternoon tea/lemonade, pre-dinner hors d' oeuvres, turn down service and a full service bar.  If you get a chance,  tour the available rooms during the day - they're all beautifully decorated. The Ballastone is a beautiful experience and I highly recommend it!!

This B&B was literally the highlight of our vacation.  It helps that it's in one of the most beautiful cities in the world.  They were absolutely wonderful to us.  We stayed in the Hannah and although it was on the 1st floor, felt luxurious and cozy.  The breakfast was delicious, the decor was stunningly done up for the holidays, the staff was courteous and kind.  I will most definitely come back here.

I am in love with this place.  My husband and I went here on our honeymoon and he reserved a room for us at the Ballastone.  The staff was friendly, the decor was gorgeous, the breakfasts were amazing, and the location was perfect.

It was a great experience and I'm excited about the thought of going back in the near future.

We absolutely  loved this place. My husband and I  left California for a much  needed romantic getaway.  We stayed at the  Ballastone Inn through a Livingsocial deal. After a long 6 hour flight.  We arrived at the Ballastone Inn at 10 pm.  We were greeted by Kristin with her warm and friendly smile. we booked the Mulberry Tulips  junior suite, which by the way may I say that  the pictures on line don't do this room nor the Inn justice. Our room was just breathtaking and so romantic. We didn't want to leave our room. Each morning we ate in the Courtyard (which by the way was just beautiful)  and had  the chief special for breakfast. I typically don't like French toast but, this  Cinnamon French toast  here was just to die for, actually... I'm not going to lye.  I loved it so much I had it twice. My husband had the grits which he loved as well. Living in Orange County, CA we can't find grits that tasted this good.  The food and service was just amazing.

The Inn was centrally located within walking distance to everything that wanted to see and take part in. I could truly say that my husband and I fell in love with each other all over again and we've been together for 29 years. We absolutely loved the Ballastone Inn and Savannah, GA.  In fact we are planning to send our married children here is so they can experience the romance and beauty of the  Ballastone Inn as well. It was difficult to leave this place!

This was our first time visiting Savannah and the accommodations were second to none. The rooms were picture perfect. And with friends and family from all over the country staying in all the other rooms, we literally felt like we were at home. The staff at the Ballastone Inn have genuine southern hospitality and are truly five star. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would love to visit Savannah and this bed and breakfast again someday.

Absolutely loved the Ballastone.  From the Inn itself to the wonderful staff, our stay definitely exceeded our expectations.

We were lucky enough to stay at the Ballastone Inn using a Living Social deal, otherwise we wouldn't have been able to afford it for both nights that we stayed in Savannah. After staying here I realize that it is well worth the price tag.  We stayed in the Victoria room. The photos online do not do it justice! I thought that it looked a bit gaudy from the online photos but wanted this suite because of the jetted tub.  Upon entering the Victoria suite I was amazed that it wasn't gaudy at all but rather tastefully decorated. The king size bed was very comfortable and the sheets were simply divine. I loved the fact that there were bed steps to get into the over sized bed.  I also loved the chandelier - it was very elegant and added charm to the room. We got to check out some of the other rooms that weren't occupied.  All the rooms are beautiful but after our stay I have to say the Victoria was my favorite of the rooms we were able to tour.

You won't go hungry if you are staying at the Ballstone. Starting with breakfast, we had the chef's special each day and it was delicious. The first day was cinnamon french toast. I don't even like french toast but I thoroughly enjoyed it.  The second day was a traditional breakfast - eggs, bacon, potatoes or grits. It was all perfectly prepared. I need to know how they get their scrambled eggs so fluffy! In the afternoon they have tea served with pastries. Again, everything we tried was delicious. And then later in the evening they offer hors d'oeuvres - all were very good.

The staff was all very pleasant and helpful. Melissa was sweet enough to help us carry all our luggage to the room and went over all the details about our stay. She directed us to the off street parking behind the Inn and because of the awesome proximity to everything we didn't move our car until it was time to leave.  Jasmine was also very sweet and helpful in making recommendations.  She was a pleasure to talk to. The breakfast staff was also wonderful (I think it was Matt and Ryan).  My husband's eggs were slightly over cooked and they replaced them without hesitation. They were very attentive.  I'm very impressed with the commitment to customer service at the Ballastone. We really felt like we were staying at a friend's home.  We will definitely be back!

This is our third time at the Ballastone and though we would not stay here every trip to Savannah (it can be $300+ per night), we do when we have a special occasion.  The rooms are each unique, the bedsheets are the softest around, the staff is helpful, and the food is top notch.  Definitely have the breakfast, but hit the bar for complimentary hors douvres as well.  They get the big and the little things right at the Ballastone so for your next big occasion you can't miss it.

Real fancy digs. Close proximity to lots of shopping, eating and night life. Very romantic atmosphere, very courteous staff. Delish breakfast choices and my absolute favorite lox and cream cheese with capers on the weekends.. Only complaint was that maybe the windows could've maybe opened, I like to get a good nose full of the morning sky. Off street parking is pretty cramped, but free. because of the age of the establishment and the 'creekiness' of the hardwoods to be mindful of other guest I caught stepping lightly or 'sneaking around' when it wasn't necessary.

Stayed here from October 5-8, 2013 and absolutely loved our stay. We had a slight problem upon check-in with our room and the next 2 nights they upgraded us to the China Suite which was elegant and really exemplified our trip to the South from Los Angeles. The staff and breakfasts could not have been any better. Latifa, who served us our fantastic breakfast each morning was warm, charming and a real delight to talk to. We chose to eat our meals in the outdoor patio area of the Inn which is beautifully adorned with a koi pond and delightful shrubbery. The location of the Inn was perfect and an easy walk anywhere in the historic district of the city. Not only would I recommend this Inn, but if we ever are fortunate enough to visit Savannah again, The Ballastone Inn is the "ONLY" place we would stay.

My new husband and I could not have been more pleased with our decision to stay at the Ballastone. Everything was just perfect and comfortable and Jennifer was absolutely one of the most kind people we have ever encountered. She knew we were newlyweds and she did everything she could to make our stay extra special. She really went above and beyond and we will never ever forget the generousity and kindness that was shown to us. You honestly never have to leave the Inn...breakfast is delicious, afternoon tea delicious, and pre dinner appetizers delicious. They feed you well and put a beautiful roof over your head...what else could you ask for. The location is perfect walking distance to all the beautiful squares, the city market, and river front. We will never stay any where else while staying in Savannah.

This was our 5th trip to Savannah and our first stay at The Ballastone Inn. We were very impressed with the staff. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. We stayed in the Scarlett's Retreat room and, except for the bed being too soft for me (my wife loved it however), it was very accommodating.  We really enjoyed all the public spaces the Inn has to offer. Breakfast was also a real treat and the seating was very cozy and romantic.
