This review would have been a good solid 2.5 stars, maybe even three. Up until the point I found a live slug in the bed. Let me say that slower for those of you who think you mis read......A   LIVE   SLUG. To start off the price was right, and thats the only reason I booked it, I had plans to stay at The Holiday Inn Express, but when I went onto Travelocity and saw this for literally $90 less a night, I could not resist. I am normally a fan of La Quinta when going for a low end chain. THis La Quinta is in a decent location, about 4 miles from downtown, and near shopping, and food. The area seems a little shady, but not scary (as always...valubles out of sight). The room was adequate, but had a bit of a mossy smell, and wasn't outright dirty, but wasn't as clean as I would have liked. The free breakfast had yogurt, bagels, waffles and eggs, cereal and juice.  Basically, the cleanliness left something to be desired. The real kicker was on checkout noticing something blackon the sheet, getting closer and seeing a little slug gyrating about. At that point we left Would I stay here again.NO way. But is it the worst hotel ever? no.

Not that nice.  Found beer bottles behind the pull out couch.  The sleeper sofa was awful, like sleeping with a bar pressing into your back.  Motel was not that clean.  Don't recommend this place.

Hotel is a little older but staff was very friendly and room was clean. Location isn't bad and price can't be beat. Only real complaint was "free high-speed internet" isn't much faster than dial up.

Friendly staff. The rooms are old and could be cleaner. I HATE a/c units that kick on and off all night. They do that here. The tv has a sleep sound enhancer. Use it to cover noise from outside.

Not sure why there are anything negative said regarding this hotel.  Absolutely for the price you get the best hotel money can buy.  I just paid $58/night and got a flat screen 32 inch tv, got to take my dog, fluffy towels, great air conditioner, nice breakfast bar and a huge bed with lovely comfortable pillows and more pillows.  It is an ok area.  Not skummy at all.  Starbucks across the street and a straight shot down Abercorn to the river front.  In fact we headed to Atlanta and found another La Quinta and I would give this one a 3.  Same deal but carpets aren't as nice.

I have no idea what everyone else is talking about. I got a room here for an excellent rate and the staff was friendly, the room was totally clean and smelled fine, and the beds were comfy. If I was looking for some 5 star qualities of course this place doesn't match up, but for a 2 star hotel, in midtown Savannah for under 60/night... this is bloody perfect.

I guess this is a case of 'you get what you pay for' and while the price was right, the experience was lacking. This review is for the two rooms we stayed in.

The positives: Very friendly and responsive staff. Parking was always easy and plentiful. The beds and pillows are probably some of the most comfortable I've ever slept in. Although the A/C kicked on and off it was very cold.

The negatives: The room smelled, possibly animal odor. The wifi in our room did not work for the first day and a half of our stay, which was part of the reason for picking this hotel since I had to work while traveling. One of our room keys just stopped working, and even the replacements sometimes acted as if they were going to stop working and took multiple tries to even register in the door lock. There was a roach above the door on our last morning there. The cable went in and out from time to time but this may have been due to the storming. The bathroom was the tiniest cramped space, although that can be pretty typical for cheaper standard hotel rooms.

The accessible room we rented was not as accessible as it should be, while the wheelchair had room in the bathroom, there was very little space around the beds in the main room. This room was missing a phone entirely. The refrigerator that had to be requested (it was missing as well) came and did not work at all. This isn't the hotel's fault but a very loud fist fight happened outside of this room for hours before it was finally handled.

I would not stay here again, there were other options in the same price range, and personally I would look into those.

Filthy rooms. I was put in 106, nothing else available for handicapped person traveling with me. I posted photos of room 106. Absolutely awful!  Should be 0 stars! Do not stay here, pay $25 more and go to Hampton Inn

BEDBUGS :( Walk away from this bug-infested hotel. I checked in fair-skinned and checked out rash-covered. I am forced to give them a star, because their bugs have my blood. So the star is for my poor blood. The hotel gets starless :( rating.

Okay hotel, very nice about an early check in but had to pay for two nights. Not that clean but it's okay. Close to most major stores, mall is a few minutes away. Parking can get tricky. Thought they would make the beds in the morning and change the towels but they didn't. Other than those things everything was ok.

I had recently stayed in another La Quinta while visiting Tampa... with ZERO issues, ZERO complaints, ZERO problems, it was CLEAN, the staff were FRIENDLY and the place looked WELL KEPT.

Based on that visit I had no reason to expect anything less;  or at a minimum, I had no reason to expect any sort of disaster.

Arrival was no issued; easy to find, plenty of parking, walk over to the check-in counter.  The check in clerk issued us a room and with bags in hand we walked over to our first floor room.  It took all of 10 seconds for us to know we were in for a doozy.  Opening the door had this strong mold or mildew smell hit us like a Mack Truck.  OMG, what the hell is that stank?  We didn't even enter the room.

My complaint to the check-in clerk was taken in but he sure didn't seemed surprised in the least and to top it off he offered no apology or explanation; just that he would get us into a better room.

The new room was on the second floor.  "Walking there" was our next issue.  The stairway is outside and the steps are not concrete;  they were severely rusted metal stairs.  Rusted enough to make us actually concerned of falling through them.  At least the room didn't have that scent of death (although it didn't smell all that sanitary either, kinda like a moisture issue in the building).

We woke in the morning, checked out with a more apologetic counter person and headed out.  We were so turned off by our stay that I immediately got on the phone with the hotel customer service phone number and complained how shocked we were with this location.

They issued us a "FREE FUTURE VISIT" voucher, which I was in no rush to use... I ended up giving it to a family member since I was so turned off.

I did stay in another La Quinta after this experience and guess what... it turned out to be crappy too (read about it too if you dare)....   yelp.com/biz/la-quinta-i…

We stayed here a week before moving into our house.  The room was clean, and nice.  It's in a safe area, convenient to most of Savannah

The employees were not overly friendly, bt not rude either.

Our air conditioner, despite saying it was 60 something in the room, never really went below 80.  It was hot in the room and we talked to them about it a couple times, but they always said there was no where to move us to.

The hotel is in a great location! It's about 15 minutes from River Street. We also came early and they let us check-in earlier than we were supposed to :-). The hotel is right near Dennys, too. You know, just in case you get the late night munchies.

Unfortunately, the room my friend and I have smells like smoke. That's the only negative.

Homecoming!!!

The hotel was pretty good. It served its purpose. It was a place for me to lay my head. Make sure you don't get room 163. You will hear running water coming from somewhere else during the majority of the night.

The room was filthy! The sheets had obviously not been changed from the previous guests and the towels were dirty!  There was black hair in the tub and on the bathroom floor. The room had not been vacuumed and there was a yellow ring in the toilet that was not a stain....it was from lack of basic cleaning! I was almost physically ill. The manager was very nice and came to the room when we called the front desk. She had the room cleaned and the linen changed. She said maids had quit and one was sick but agreed that it was unacceptable. She cut our room rate from $129 to $75 per night....still not worth it. We were looking to leave the place, but were almost late for an appointment and were staying 2 nights. Never again! I booked with La Quinta because I have always liked the cleanliness of their hotels. I contacted the corporate hotel management and they apologized and said that they were currently operating without a manager at that location  and were getting ready to renovate the whole place! Then they should close until they are ready for guests! That was an unacceptable response!

After a long couple of days traveling to Savannah to see my son stationed at Hunter, I was traveling from the west coast. I got to the LA Quinta midtown, I arrived early and I mean early well before 9am on the day of my arrival - they were still serving breakfast.

I held out little hope for an early check in request, to my surprise not only did they check me in early - they made me feel welcome and like it was no trouble at all. The desk clerk went out of her way with a smile on her face and was happy to help me.

The room was clean and comfortable. The bed very nice and the recliner in my room found me taking a nap in it within about an hour of getting into my room.

All in all this place is a bargain compared to most of the places to stay in Savannah. If you want a 5 star hotel and the price that goes with it then stay downtown on the water and you will get that.

But if you at looking to stay some place that is in my opinion a bargain -  affordable, clean and safe then this may be your place. All of the staff I encountered were friendly and kind.

At the end of my check in, the desk clerk even shook my hand and said "Thank you for your service sir" knowing I was a veteran, that extra touch and moment she took made my day even better and a little brighter. They went above and beyond in my book to make a tired old man after a long couple of days feel welcome and appreciated.

Always try to stay at LQ when traveling with pups.  I think they are a great mid level chain that's not trashy but not super pricey. We have had great service so far.  Room was nice and clean.  Small free continental breakfast. My only complaint was a little noisy because door is on outside.  I could hear other guests and outside but it wasn't too bad.  I love that we got package of dog treats at check in :)

This is the third hotel on my 7 day vacation and the best out of those 3. For the price. It's clean, enough. The bathroom is small and the tub is chipped. Minor mold. But you get what you pay for. The beds are actually comfortable. Pillows could be bigger. The staff is very accommodating. Brought a roll away bed almost immediately upon asking and sent maintenance to fix a drain that was a result of user error. They even called us to check on our room. The breakfast selection was small. Offering little bagels. Muffins and make your own waffles. Would use la Quinta again
