this hotel, undoubtedly, tainted my view and memories of savannah georgia.   when people talk about southern hospitality w/ that lovely twang, they surely did NOT mean this place.  when my husband had to travel there for work recently, i tagged along w/ our kids.  we checked in here because the pictures looked good and we are members of marriott.  as for location, it might be considered w/in the boundaries of the historical district, but quite far away from the nightlife and everything worth seeing w/in the city limits.  you will need to walk everywhere if you want to see the good parts of savannah.  the hotel might look good in the pictures, but the rooms are tired and not well kept up.  we stayed 3 long painful nights here.  the rooms were dirty and  all of the dishes and pots were dirty.  the hand towels had stains and the carpet needed to be vacuumed.  their housekeeping are just really, really bad or they need hire a new crew.  i had to do laundry and the tiny room was just filthy.  the bar and lobby is dark and uninviting.  their idea of a work/business center are 2 old computers that are up against the walls and forget about privacy to check on things like your bank accounts.  everyone can see what you doing or typing.  the chairs for the computers are so old, you sink down when you sit.  as if any of this does not make you run away from this place, you have to meet the staff.  oh boy!  most of the ladies in the front desk are locals w/ serious attitude.  they are rude and do not make any effort to perform the basic functions of their jobs.  during the evenings, the staff will congregate in the tiny lobby area and act like it is their own personal living room and talk super loud about anything and everything.  one night, they had their friends hanging out in the lobby and they were too busy yapping than to bother w/ helping guests.  when you need something, you have to wait in between their conversations to get a word in.  i am not sure how people speak in savannah, but the staff at this hotel reminded me of a really bad rap video. i was on the computer late at night, the night girl at the desk spent most of her time on the phone talking w/ her friends, instead of working, as loud as possible and her gutteral and ghetto language was just unreal.  i had to peek my head around the corner to make sure it was not some teenage kid on the phone at midnight.  their idea of a hot breakfast was some frozen potatoes and disgusting frozen meat.  i am not sure if my dogs would eat the food.  i plan to call their corporate office to share my experience and let them know about this location.  be aware of this Residence Inn and stay away!

I want to tell you about my experience at the Residence Inn by Marriott in Savannah, GA. I stayed there 6/29/13 to 7/3/13 with my 12 year old daugher. We were there for my daughter's dance competition. This is the second year that we've stayed there. We checked in on Saturday and right before going to bed, I opened the night stand and found a condom box with one condom in it. I also found an opened wrapper with lubicant all in the drawer. I was so mortified by this that I did not sleep in the bed. I used the pullout couch, which had pee stains on it. At this point, I had to weigh my options of which was worse. It was also very uncomfortable for my daughter to find condoms in her room. We were both extremely grossed out by this. The next day, I notified the manager which I had to wait quite awhile for him to see me. He offered to change rooms or comp my room. I had already unpacked all my belongs which was a lot. He also told me that the customer before me had been there a month. Now, I am getting even a worse picture in my mind of the room. I decide to search the room thoroughly and I find a bar napkin with a girls number written on it. I am completely grossed out by this point. The guy in the room before me has been staying here a month bringing random girls back to his room having sex. The worst part is obviously the hotel staff did not clean the room properly. The next thought is what else did they not clean. I had the room recleaned while I was there. After all of this, when I was checking out, I requested a late check out. My friend had just asked and the attendant said yes. However, when I asked, she rudely said no. I tried to explain that with everything that I went through with this hotel, don't you think you could accomodate me? But the answer was NO. After this experience, I will never stay at a Marriott again. I travel quite a bit with dance competition and we always have several options. I will never choose Marriott again.

I'm so sorry that it has taken me almost 2 years to post this for
the Residence Inn Savannah, but here it goes.
I worked on the movie "The Last Song" in Savannah, GA from
    May 2009-September 2009.
So needless to say, I was in the city for quite some time.
When I received word from Disney that I would be working out of town
in Savannah, GA I had no idea where the Production Company would
    put me up.
When I arrived, I could not believe how clean, beautiful and well-kept
the hotel was presented. From the front desk staff, to the housekeepers, to the managing staff....what a professional place to stay.
Donnie the general manager was very nice and pleasant. My job
required that I pay the hotel bills for our cast/crew members, so
with that said I had to deal with the management very closely.
Donna Krohn and I had phone conversations 2-3 times per week, and she was very helpful, knowledgeable, and professional.
Each and every morning, breakfast was presented in the hotel lobby.
And the staff was so nice..
If I needed a cab somewhere, I could always call down to the front
desk, and they would call a cab for me.
The gym was very clean, and had enough equipment to get
    a great workout.
The pool was clean as well, and offered relief from the Savannah heat.
There was also a BBQ on the property and we used it a few times
to relax and BBQ in the outdoor area of the hotel property.
The location was a plus, and I could walk to any/everywhere that I
Bottom line-the entire staff from management to valet was AMAZING!!!!!
    Thanks guys,

As a business traveler, I've stayed in many extended stay hotels over the last year. About 90% of my life seems to happen while I have two suitcases unpacked in a 1 bedroom suite.

This is the best extended stay I have ever stayed in. I spent a month holed up in Savannah on a work project and the place was a home away from home. Breakfast was of a higher quality than other marriott free breakfasts, bar was open when I needed it, building was well laid out, room was large and comfortable.

The staff put the place over the top. Got to know me and how I liked to be helped. Really cool people.

Valet parking, nice patio with fireplace, really good price. I had an excellent stay.

Amazing hotel.  This really could be a full service Marriott, it is much nicer than many of them.  Easy check in.  Parking on the street.  What else could you ask for?

One of the nicest Residence Inns I have stayed in.  Very spacious rooms (at least in the cottages) and quiet location. Good breakfast fare too.

We stayed here a few weeks ago to attend a graduation at the Marine base.  Ziphora and Kristin went above and beyond to help is with booking another night on points to avoid us having to switch hotels.

We stayed two nights while working in Savannah. We travel often and try to stay at Residence Inns most if the time. This is so far the best Residence Inn we have stayed in. The staff was great, the bar was nice to have and everything was well maintained.

This hotel isn't super fancy, but I found it to be very comfortable and accommodating, especially for business purposes. The kitchenette was a big plus, and housekeeping services did a nice job of keeping everything clean and stocked. The location is a little awkward if you don't have a car, but it's a close walk to everything downtown (just be cautious walking in the area at night). There's a 24-hour convenience store next door, which is helpful.

Staying in Savannah at the Residence Inn.  Great city, good location.

The people working at this hotel are the friendliest, most helpful employees I have met in quite some time.  The front desk clerk, the valet, the maintenance staff and the barmaid - all a credit to Marriott.

    A real pleasure.

Truly a great hotel with nice amenities. Hey...a bar next to the lobby ain't too shabby. The free breakfast was the best we've had in a long time. Standard fare but done very well. Done by a wonderful lady as well who came out and greeted everyone with a warm 'good morning' and even bigger smile.
She alone made the stay wonderful.

I would like to start off by saying that I grew up in Northern VA and then relocated to Charleston SC. Where I lived for over 6 years... so I know what Southern Hospitality is:) I had one of the BEST experiences I've EVER had at this hotel. My husband and I came down from a Tues-Fri visit and stayed here. The only downside was the parking however during the week we had no problem finding a free spot on the road (instead of valet $12/day) But even the valet was super nice (gated with cameras/well lit). The staff was by far the best part of this hotel. Crystal and Kristen were both super helpful! The hotels breakfast was great also has a happy hour with complimentary beer/wine/food!!! Will most certainly be coming back to stay here soon! Large rooms with full kitchen, great little courtyard seating area, exercise room etc. For the money having 2 meals a day provided plus friendly staff is a BARGAIN. Hotel is within walking distance to downtown area bars and food about 10 minutes away

So here on business long term. WARNING!!! They allow dogs.... Therefore my room had FLEAS. And I am allergic to animals. The staff seem friendly but not very Accommodating, they can also be rude. the carpet needs to be changed. there is an inch of dust behind the night stands along with a chip bag and general gross stuff. They do have free beer at a certain time. No hot tub... The overall experience... OK.... Advice, clean better and more often. Oah yeah, the breakfast Is not good at all.

I've stayed at Residence Inns before but this one tops them all, primarily because the staff is outstanding. Very friendly and helpful.
The breakfast was better than most, as were the treats at the Monday thru Friday evening reception.

Upon my arrival at the Residence Inn in Savannah, I was a bit concerned since it seemed to not be right in the center of everything - luckily, the Residence Inn - Historic District is right across the street from the beginnings of the historic district and therefore very easy to walk to.  The Savannah Visitor's Center is also a short 3 minute walk from the hotel.

The hotel is very clean and all the rooms have the basics of what one needs from a good hotel while traveling.  As with most Residence Inns, the rooms are large and spacious.  They provide you with basic toiletries (no body lotion, though) and all the amenities necessary for cooking a meal in your room if you chose to do so.  They have a nice outdoor pool.  The daily breakfast is actually pretty good and changes daily...eggs, buttermilk biscuits w/ gravy, bacon, waffles...along with cereal, yogurt, pastries, etc.  The Manager's Reception (M-Th) is great - how can you go wrong with a provided happy hour at no extra cost?!?!?

The service here was extremely friendly and I would definitely stay here again on my next visit.

Large Rooms. Stay in one of the cottages. The staff is great. Breakfast was good, standard for that type of accommodation. There is a belgian waffle maker that I appreciated. It was very quiet there. I appreciated having a kitchen and a living room area to be able to stretch out. The bed was very comfy. There is some off street parking around the back if you are lucky enough to get it. My car was fine the whole time I stayed. I would definitely stay there again. It is really close to the SCAD museum and an easy walk to some of the dorms. It was also easy to get pretty much anywhere we needed to go.

Tip: Arrive early in the evening for managers special drinks and dinner.

This hotel is really beautiful.  The breakfast was excellent and the staff is very friendly and helpful.  The hotel is moderately priced for a residence inn and is located in the heart of Savannah. The hotel is pet friendly for a fee and the rooms are large and comfortable.

Pet friendly (for a fee), awesome friendly staff, great location, convenience store next door and down in the lobby, free beer and wine from 5 to 7 and super nice valet parking made this the best hotel stay we have had during our whole trip! Definitely recommend that you book through an online service because it cost more when I called for a price from the front desk...

This is a great hotel in downtown Savannah just a few streets from the action. This hotel is located just on the border of what I would consider the safe walkable Savannah. The staff was friendly, especially the breakfast staff. The rooms were clean and roomy. I loved the mini kitchens with everything you need for an extended stay. However, when in Savannah we love to eat out so we didn't use it much. The beds were comfortable and the rooms got nice and cold. Things were quiet at night too so we all got a good nights sleep.

The pool is nice but there is not hot tub, which would have been nice on a chilly night. There is, however, a nice fire pit area that overlooks the pool. Alongside the pool are separate cottages that looked very quaint. The free breakfast was a great way to start your day. This was your typical free hot hotel breakfast with most things premade in warmers. They did have one waffle maker that always had a line. The lobby had lots of comfortable seats but not enough table and chairs for dining. Often there was not enough places for people to sit while eating. Overall a nice hotel for a reasonable price. I would stay here again for sure.

In a nutshell: My husband and I stayed at this hotel two different times in the space of two years for weekend Savannah getaways. Both times we were 150% satisfied with everything about our stay. Over the last several years we've stayed in many different Marriott hotels but this is definitely one of the best experiences we've ever had.

    The Staff:

First of all, I have to mention the staff. My experience with hotel staff is that they can be cranky, sour, short-tempered, or - most times at best - simply indifferent. Not so at the Downtown Marriott Residence Inn! Both times we've been there the staff has been INCREDIBLE. And I really mean that! They are friendly. They say good morning with a smile in their voice. They ask if you had a good night's rest. They're super helpful and accommodating and they definitely make you feel like they're welcoming you to "their home". Definitely A+.

    The Rooms:

This hotel has one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and studio suites available. We stayed in a one-bedroom suite and were very happy with how clean and well-appointed it was.

The bedroom was big enough for us to comfortably fit our one year old's portable crib next to the king sized bed. And we really appreciated the fact that it allowed for complete privacy with the closing and locking bedroom door. The living area of the suite was comfortable and attractive with a large desk and office chair in one corner and a high-backed arm chair and sofa grouped around the TV. The pull-out sofa would be great for anyone who needed to sleep a third person in their suite. (There is an extra set of bedding provided in the bedroom closet just for that occasion.) The kitchen was small but cute with gorgeous cabinetry and beautiful soapstone countertops. Our kitchen contained a full sized refrigerator, a convention oven microwave, and a two-burner range. Pots, plates, cups, and other basic cook and service wear were stocked in the cupboards.

We appreciated the modern finishes to our room and found the entire suite attractive, modern, clean, fresh, and very functional.

    The Amenities:

In one word, their free hotel buffet breakfast is *impressive.* We stayed three days and each day there was a little something new. A sample menu might include:

-Hot potato, sausage, and green bell papper "hash" (the potatoes were not coated with anything and the entire medley tasted fresh, so I don't think it just came from a freezer bag)
    -Sausage patties
-Scrambled eggs (tasted a lot better to me than the typical "from the can" hotel scramble)
    -Hot cooked grits
    -Individually packaged yogurt
-A fresh fruit, granola, strawberry syrup, and plain yogurt "bar"
    -English Muffins
    -Fresh waffles
    -Cold cereal and milk
    -Fresh apples and bananas
    -Orange and Apple Juices
-And just about every kind of condiment you could think of

I can't really comment on this because we didn't ever make use of their evening cocktail bar, but I will say that it looked like a nice set up and the bartender always smiled and said hello as we walked passed.

The hotel features a central patio and pavilion area with two BBQ grills, a super cozy outdoor gas fire pit, a covered gazebo, and a good sized outdoor swimming pool. I only wish we had had more time to enjoy them all! They were all very lovely and well-maintained.

The exercise room was bigger than I would have imagined with a large selection of fitness equipment to choose from. Unfortunately, I didn't use any of it, though, so I can't comment beyond that. ;)

Parking is not free at this hotel ... but a lot of that is due to the fact that it's just off of downtown Savannah and parking is at a premium there. The upside, however, is that even though you will be charged $12 per day for parking, it is VALET service and your vehicle will be stored behind a secure, gated, barbed wire enclosure when it is not in use. The valet service is super prompt and we actually really enjoyed being able to just drop our vehicle off at the door. So in the end, I don't really see this as too much of a negative. Just factor it into your costs.

    The Location:

The location of this hotel is definitely nice. It's not super premium by any means, but if you're willing to walk 10-15 minutes, you can make your way to just about any of the attractions in downtown Savannah from your doorstep on foot. And if you're not into walking everywhere - the FREE Savannah bus line makes a stop right in from of the hotel as well.

The street that the hotel is just off of (Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd) is a little busy, but one crosswalk will take you over a block and it's a relatively quiet and pleasant stroll under the oak trees from there.

So enjoy your stay in Savannah ... and let me know if you found this review helpful! Thanks :)
