The hotel itself isn't bad.  Relatively clean and modern.  However, avoid the restaurant at all costs!!!!  Poor service, incredibly poorly prepared meals.  You'd be better off at a McDonalds.

Food is excellent. You will wait for it, but when it comes it's fantastic! Calamari, cayanne steak, chicken quesadilla... All great choices. Drinks are stiff too. Cost is $$-$$$. In Effingham, it's about the best food in town. And I lived here for 20 years.

I've had wonderful service here tonight & everytime I've ever been. I enjoy eating out at the restaurant and having afternoon cocktails at the bar, I just tag along on business trips with my other half. Dinners are delicious; the service is good, if anything is wrong, like any other place I let my waiter know or anyone that works there & they fix it. Sunday brunch is my favorite, I can never resist stuffing myself with the buffet!

We hosted a family reunion at our Lake Sara home this summer.  Since we can't fit 36 people in a cottage, several families stayed in local hotels.  Hilton Garden Inn received a major thumbs up from my self-described fussy sister-in-law.  Her  home always looks spic and span, ready for an open house, so if a hotel passes muster for cleanliness---it's got to be as close to godliness as a hotel can be. She raved, too, about the nice new beds and bedding.

In addition, they enjoyed their breakfasts....and I enjoyed the fact that I didn't cook 36 breakfasts :)

I think you'll be safe and satisfied if you choose this HGI.

    Sunday Brunch at the restaurant.
This was my 3rd time here for Brunch over the past 2 years.  I give it 5 start on each visit.  They have a wide assortment of breakfast and lunch as well as dessert.  You can also order from the kitchen and they bring it out to the table as part of the brunch.  We drive 40 miles to eat here and will continue to when in town.

I can't rate the hotel rooms as i've never stayed there.

I've been driving through Effingham since the 90s to get from Texas to Michigan though I've skipped a bunch of years in between. I used to stay at the Red Roof for pricing when I was a poor college student but I've since moved beyond the basic clean room with bed, bathroom and tv as my standard.

Drove through during Thanksgiving weekend. The HGI was already fixed up for Christmas.  The lobby was so cozy and comfy that I hung out there for a while. The room was the typical HGI.

If you're stopping at the crossroads of 70 and 57, I give it a big thumbs up as a stopping point!

This hotel gets a strong four-stars from me. Effingham is the midway point from Clarksville where we often stop when traveling to Rockford IL.  The hotel is newer, clean, and very inviting... the staff is always friendly and helpful.  The room is nice, clean, comfortable and spacious for a family of five.  It was also very quiet and gives you the "I feel safe here" stamp of approval.

Their indoor pool is always a hit with the kids (and myself).  We enjoyed the complimentary breakfast included with our stay and sometimes even decided to dine-in at lunch here.  Good options on the menu and food is not bad, but not great.  For breakfast, it definitely beats waiting at the hour long line at Cracker Barrel.

The hotel is conveniently located in the middle of the shopping offered in this town.  If you were in an extended stay here, the Walmart is directly across the street.

I haven't stayed at other hotels here in town, we keep coming back here.
