I stay at the West often. It is like a home away from home and the friendly staff makes traveling easier. It has been recently remodeled and tragically the crown molding in the rooms has been painted. There is a pool, workout room, bar and dining on property.

First, allow me to apologize for this review. It's going to be very, very, very long.

I have only been to Louisville once in my life so far, and I was traveling there in July of 2007 for the amazing and exciting Lebowskifest. If you've never heard of this Lebowskifest, then please do Google it, and get with the program, man.

So, for the Lebowskifest, the festival's hotel was The Executive West. It's very close to the airport, so that's a plus. Looks like a really nice place from the outside, but without looking like a cookie-cutter, modern McChain-Hotel. This place is old school, and I hate to use that term because even though "Yo-MTV Raps" was a great show, the term old school has been raped by overuse.

The interior decor of this building is rather attractive, even though it's dated as hell. Lots of wood paneling, old furniture, and ancient wallpaper. I think there has obviously been a few construction expansions in the history of this building because this place is huge, and it can take quite awhile to walk around inside the halls just to get to your room. There's a pool, and a gym, but you may get enough exercised just getting to and from your room. The outdoor pool area was beautiful, and it had a cool fountain/statue thingy out there, as well as a bar. I discovered one little hallway that faced the outdoor pool, and there was a long row of rocking chairs lined up so you could sit down inside the air conditioning and watch the people in the pool through large windows. Pretty neat I thought. This hotel is overpopulated with a very rare wild animal, a wild animal that once inhabited many American homes and hotels, but has since been killed off by modernists. This animal is the classic American rocking chair, complete with seat pad. Seriously, these are the best chairs known to human butt-kind, and they were everywhere. We had one in our room, and it was lovely.

Staff was very friendly and efficient in their business. The room was great, cold air, comfy beds, little desk, high speed wireless, so even though it looks old school, (my sister and I kept joking that our Grandma was charged with decorating the rooms and interior of the hotel), it has modern amenities. There was also a very noticeable smell inside the hotel. Smelled like water damaged carpets to a certain extent, or mold probably. I didn't think it smelled bad, but I did notice it. I kept looking for the high water mark on the walls where the flood waters must have been some years ago, but I think the smell was a combination of old carpets and wallpapers, old furniture, and possibly an overzealous carpet shampooing schedule by the hotel staff that leaves a musty, damp tinge to the air. Whatever, it's great, it smelled like old people in there. As if my grandparents were all alive again, and sitting around smoking their Camel cigarettes.

Have you ever seen, "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas," with Johnny Depp? If you have, just imagine the scenes of him when he's running through those old Las Vegas hotels with their kooky carpet and mirrored walls, it's a step back in time, and I felt like I was Hunter S. Thompson himself, (Louisville born and bred), stalking the long forgotten hallways of the American Classic with a can of beer, and on a quest for some pot and a good story.

Very nice hotel, but the thing that gave this one 5 stars was the excellent service.  After a long day it was really nice to experience it.   Even though the hotel is next to the highway and airport it is extremely quiet.   WIll stay there again..

VERY EXPENSIVE !  for what you get, which is no more than a nice Holiday Inn.  The only advantage for me was it was right across the road to the fairgrounds for the NSRA street rod nationals .

This hotel has been renovated and it's real nice. I know some people who have stayed here way back when and they say it's changed a lot. The room is clean with FREE wireless. So a star for that. No fridge though. The price is under a hundred bucks but the company paid for it and maybe they got a good discount. I'm not sure what the normal rates are. The parking lot is a pretty good size. They seem to have a bunch of meetings and conventions here. There were a few downstairs.
I'll check out the pool and the gym tomorrow.

I have stayed here twice in the last month.  The place is okay, not great.  There are other hotels on the same street that may be worth a shot.  I expect more from a Crowne Plaza.  Their hotel here is drab, old, and dreary.  It needs a major makeover.

The worst part about this place is the Internet.  The hotel is wireless and it is awful.  If you are able to get a connection, good luck finding any available bandwidth or being able to stay connected.  These hotels needs to beef up their internet connections!

Food is no where to be found near the hotel, except in the restaurant.  I will say the hotel restaurant had excellent food!  It made the stay bearable.

This is the site that the American Board of Radiology uses for its oral examinations...  The scent of adrenaline permeates the dark hallways palpably for those days.

Both the Executive and Executive West will be undergoing rennovations... but the kind of sprawled out layout really recalls a different era of American History.

If I didn't have to go here every 10 years, I might like it more.  As it is, it's an indelible memory of hotel stress.  :)

Pros:
awesome beds
super cold A/C
nice front desk staff
clean
free wi-fi
close to the Strike & Spare bowling alley

Cons:
no continental breakfast
$10 grilled cheese
half a roll of toilet paper in our room
no refrigerator
$110 a night

Overall: Too expensive for what was lacking

Having the fire/smoke alarm go off while you're in the shower is not fun. A person at the front desk called as I was exiting the room and asked, "were you taking a shower". She then explained that the humidity was too much and set the alarm off. It took over 10 minutes for the security guard / maintenance staff to disengage the alarm. I called the front desk to ask if it would go off again, as I was going to finish showering, she said, "it shouldn't since I re-set the alarm".

Of course, it went off again. I called the front desk and another representative answered the phone. I asked him if he was sending the same guy to repair and he said, "if you'd like me to, yes".

This time, and actual maintenance person came to explain the issue. At the conclusion, he asked if I left the bathroom door open when I showered and I stated I did. He then asked if I would be staying another night he would fix it. I assured him, I'd never be staying at that property again. I posed a question to him: why fix it now? Apparently, this is a known issue since the front desk person knew what set the alarm off. I told the maintenance employee he might want to "fix it" so the next guest wouldn't have to go through the same thing.

I've stayed at your property before, but this was the last stay. Having the alarm go off is one thing, but the response was not ok.

It is, however, a great looking property.

This hotel has a lot of great things to offer. 1) location is great, easy access to highway and close to expo center 2) great pool staffed w / lifeguards! 3) good buffet especially for kids 4.95$ price! Now the disappointing things are things that make an enjoyable hotel experience! Accessible Internet access. They stated that it was free but in my room it was spotty and only could access near the door but who wants to stand at the door to use wi-fi. Another disappointing thing was the plumbing above us was super loud!!!! I thought there was a flood above us because I heard so much gushing water and very frequently!  It woke me up about 4x throughout the night and I worried that I was going to wake up in a puddle of water in my bed ;( couldn't enjoy my night due to water!!! Don't stay in room 159 this had many bad experiences especially paying $200 a night for a room:(

I assume they get most of their business by being near the airport.  I don't see any other good reason to be there.  The internet was free but did not really work.  It kept dropping off and on every minute and I gave up after being frustrated for a bit.

In this day and age, if you can't offer a decent internet connection, that's just poor service / infrastructure.  I won't be staying here next time.

Here are the things I like about the Crowne Plaza Hotel:

Centrally located near the freeway.
Respectful and efficient staff.
Even at its busiest, there is still parking.
Great dining options near by.
Clean and classy without being pretentious.

While all I require of a hotel is little more than shelter from inclement weather and smile when I check in from the lonely night. The decor reminds me of the hotel the Ghostbusters first found slimer in during the first movie. So... yah... bad ass.

The staff is super friendly and is not comprised of unhelpful parrots that only give you one of the 3 answers they are trained to when asked a question. On more than one occasion staff has thought outside the box to help me with a request. Big plus in my book. There is free wi-fi, however no refrigerator. The rooms were exceptionally clean. There is a restaurant attached, which I have reviewed separately however I will mention that if you decide to order in; walk down to it and order from the hostess and not the bar. Most of the times I have been there the bartender seems over tasked all the times I've been there and had much greater success with the hostess. Overall, this hotel comes with my recommendations.

This hotel has the Most ridiculous customer service.i stayed there for literary 10 hrs for one night, they charged me for 2 nights, and when I called, they put me on hold for more than 10 minutes. Eventually I called from another phone and someone picked up and told me the manager was not there, I have to call again to fix the deal. When I asked for slippers during the stay, they were surprised like hotels are not supposed to have slippers for customers. There's no late check out neither.  Worst hotel experience ever, of all the hotels I been to, this one is shitty, customer service is shitty.

My children and I stayed here in June of 2014.  Across the hall, someone had ordered room service and the tray sat outside the room for at least two days!  GROSS!  There were trash bags in the hall just sitting there for at least a day.

The wife and I stayed here when moving her from Louisville to Raleigh, NC. The fact that it happened to be Derby weekend was an unfortunate coincidence.

That said, it was a great stay.

The bed was really comfy, and it was decent-sized bathroom. We were only there one night, so I can't really speak to cleaning service, but even booking at the last minute, the room was clean and well taken care of.

Free internet - it was fairly fast and reliable, and we ended up watching a few things on Netflix without issue. Such a welcome difference from the "higher end" hotels that attempt to anally rape you for internet service. *coughHiltoncough*

No fridge, microwave, or other amenities, but it was a great place to sleep before driving for 10 hours the next day. The kids that were running all over the place weren't actually heard in the room, so that was nice. Good experience here, and I'd recommend it for others.

Really nice rooms. The view in room 213 is a breathtaking vista of a/c units on a roof. The pool is super awesome and large. There are a bunch of conference and banquet rooms for various events. No laundry facility on site, but there is a decent laundromat about one mile away on Preston. $150 bucks a night.

Writing this post bright and early since the lawn clean up crew has been working for about an hour now outside my window. What's the point of putting up the sleep do not disturb sign on the door when this happens. And when I called the front desk a rude lady named Kim said..."oh is there a leaf blower outside your window?...is he waking u up?..." DUH and they she says..."yea they have to get that done there on a schedule" SAY WHAT! Yea they have to get it done but not in the morning! Rooms are mid level at best, food was bad last night...never again.

Room is nice and everything's clean, but I can't help but feel it lacks a lot of amenities for a more 'upscale' hotel. No refrigerator, for example, was a bit unexpected- not to mention our rooms were ready about half an hour late. The beds are comfortable and the staff is friendly, so that's a plus.

It's a good hotel for short stays, but the lack of useful amenities is disappointing, and makes it a lot less appealing to anyone looking to hole up somewhere for a while.

The Crowne Plaza is a well-used hotel.  You'll find imperfections on the walls, fixtures loose in your room and noises coming from the ceiling and walls in some areas of the hotel.  The hotel itself is fairly clean, but it definitely is in need of large-scale renovations.  The staff, however, is pleasant to deal with and generally helpful.

The hotel does accommodate many professional events through several of its large conference rooms and dining areas.  The indoor/outdoor pool is nice.

Room was nice and clean. Bathroom was nicely kept up. Very convenient to the airport, just a few minutes away. Relatively quiet, but being this close to the airport you have to expect some noise. Wifi speed was good, and complimentary.

Bartender was great albeit a little overwhelmed with little to no help. Chicken sandwich was ok, and the prices were good.

Decent place! Our room was clean, the heat worked, but was scary loud when it kicked on. It reminded me of the furnace from the basement in Home Alone.
Each bed came with four pillows - That's Right!! 4! And not just those stupid decorative pillows, either. I'm not even counting that one.
The bathroom was nice because it had a separate sink and mirror from the toilet and shower.
One thing I disliked - why is the air so dry?? Not sure that had anything to do with the hotel operations, but dang.
I'd stay here again.

Nicely decorated, loud hotel within a 5 minute shuttle ride from the airport, and located next to the Fairgrounds. This Crowne Plaza offers a) no refrigerator in room without request b) microwaves only next to some vending/ice machines c) no lock boxes in the rooms, and d) no hot tub. They boast of a shuttle anywhere "within 3 miles" yet even though scheduled an hour ahead to get to a yoga class, and after receiving a friendly "see you then", once I arrived to the lobby, another driver refused transport due to a group movement to/from the fairgrounds. The women's stretching room rug is worn and dirty. Think carefully and choose more wisely, my friends.

Very nice hotel. This is like a 3.5 hotel close to 4. Huge king size bed. Some rooms like mines have a 47in flat screen tv. There is a nice pool and pretty nice fitness gym.
It is minutes away from airport. 20 mins from train station and on a bus route.
Right now they having a dog show in conference room of the hotel. Watching dogs no bigger than 6 inches high strutting around head high, walking around jumping over things for prizes. Was a funny sight to see
The 6 flags amusement park is about 10 mins from here. A host of museums if you like history and fine arts. Not much of a night life from what I am told unless you wish to roll down in the hood. But I am sure somewhere you can find a good time.
I am here for a bowling tournament so night life entertainment was not my focus. But over all this is a nice hotel to be in

I hate this hotel with a passion.  It feels so dark, and secluded, and just weird.  I've been here at least a dozen times and hated every moment.  The beds are comfortable, and the rooms are clean.  It just has a weird vibe that I don't like.  And it's an epic-freaking-journey to get to the higher floors (which I invariably always get put on).  Half the time my room key doesn't work and they rarely apologize when I make the Tolkien-style journey back to the front desk to get it fixed.

Oh well, there are still plenty of worse properties to stay at.

Great convenient location. Have stayed here before. There was a gas main break on the street the hotel is on and we couldn't get to it for hours. When I finally got in, even though it wasn't their fault, they gave me a discount on the room. The only down side is the hotel bar. It closes early, even when it's packed and the manager is really rude.

Friendly staff. Even though it's located across the freeway from the airport -- which is super-convenient -- they've maintained that Louisville charm that so many of the downtown hotels have. Nice IHG Rewards Club benefits. Enjoyed the in-room 3-step #Relaxation spa amenities. I almost ranked 3-stars bc the bed linens had a weird rubbery texture and the hallways need a spruced-up makeover. Next time I'll book a later return flight so I can try their Sunday breakfast buffet. Sounded delish!

If you like having your sleep interrupted, this is the hotel for you! We stayed there three nights, and were woken up every night. If you do have to stay here, make sure they don't put you anywhere near the elevators, as drunken morons will be sure to wake you up at 3am. That and a 2am fire alarm the cleared the hotel sealed the deal. Other than the noise, not a bad place. The rooms are fine, no bedbugs, no ghosts...
I'd just avoid those elevators, maybe the whole ground floor.

I booked a room here because it was the official hotel of Lebowski Fest.  The hotel was also hosting the American Cichlid Association National Convention.

In case you were wondering, a cichilid is a fish that you put in fresh water aquariums.  There were actually aquariums set up in people's rooms and they were selling fish out of them.  Strange does not even begin to describe the atmosphere.

The room was okay, especially for only $89 per night.  The hotel could have been a lot cleaner.  There were crumbs all over the hallway.

Or maybe that was fish food?

So A bunch of us got together and put on a CON called Imaginarium. On Sat night ball room C was rented for a party, of course the hotel came in with their "cash bar".

Once a guy seen I and several others had our own drinks we were approached and was told that unless we bought their alcohol we had to take ours out and drink in the hallway or anywhere else but that ballroom because it was a "liability". All bull sh*t of course. So we, and we as in 15 of us abandoned the room to move to the hallway just outside the door and proceeded to open bar for the whole party.  Next year i'm bringing  70 bottles with me.

Wow. Whats next? No sex in the rooms unless we buy the condoms, K.Y. and toys from you?

Very displeased about this. We as a whole spent ALOT of money on/at your hotel. Next year i'll make sure to book a room across the street and walk over to work the convention.

Not to mention I open the curtain of my room window and all there is there? A stupid wall with a drain pipe.  No view,  had there been a fire it says to break window and get on ledge? What ledge?  Trapped is what I would of been!.

I will be posting this review in every place I can.

We stay at this Crowne Plaza every year for Lebowskifest, as it's right across the street from the venue.  The group rate is very reasonable, and the rooms are overall very nice.

I've seen some complain about the quality of the rooms, but so far, I have yet to find a room that isn't clean and in relatively good shape.  The beds are comfortable, the shower has good pressure, and the rooms are quiet.  Another bonus is that the free in-room wifi is actually fast, which is nice for a change!

The only downsides are the severe lack of elevators and the room keys.  If you're on a top floor, you can expect it to take nearly 5 minutes to call an elevator and make it to the top.  Just one more elevator off the lobby would solve this issue.  As for the keys, the keyreader for our room this year and last year was very unreliable, as were the key cards, which seem to get too easily wiped.  I had to request several sets of room keys over the weekend, which was annoying.

All in all, this Crowne Plaza is a nice place to stay, and is certainly a decent place for the money.

I do have to say, I was rather surprised by the overall three star rating for this place.  My experience was four star fo sho.

So I was meeting my brother for Lebowski Fest and regrettably, we were only able to stay for one night of it.  COMPLETELY his fault, as he had to keep repeating to people we encountered the entire time we were there.

Historically, when in town for Lebowski Fest, I've only ever stayed at the Courtyard Marriott across the street.  My brother had taken his bar exam at the Crowne Plaza a year ago so had some familiarity with the place.  I had left the booking of the hotel room up to him for this trip, and the Crowne Plaza was his choice.

I arrived at about 5:15pm Friday night.  The first thing I noticed (after scoping out the Lebowski Fest pre-party scene in the parking lot of the Executive Strike and Spare across the street) was that the parking lot was PACKED.  Could these all be fellow Achievers (??), I wondered aloud.

I finally found a parking space and then had to haul all of my $h!t (and there was a lot of it) inside.  I staggered into the lobby and up to a check in counter.  I had to make prior arrangements via email with a very helpful lady since the reservation was in my brother's name and I knew I'd be arriving before him and wanted to be able to get into the room right away so I could begin assembling my Lebowski Fest costume.

Check in itself was rather quick and painless, though there was an awkward moment when I noticed the fellow checking in beside me was given a parking pass for his car and the woman checking me in didn't say anything about it.  I then said to her "Do I need anything for my car?"  "Oh, you have a car?" she asked, incredulously.  "Nah," I thought to myself sarcastically, "I rolled out of an airplane carrying a giant sized plastic bag full of toiletries, among all of these other completely impractical things."

So I got my vehicle pass (didn't put it in the car until later) and dragged my crap into an elevator where I rode up to the 6th floor.  After dumping said crap in the room, I immediately grabbed the ice bucket and my little cooler and strolled down to the ice machine so I could get my Stella cooling on the rocks ASAP.  I noticed a curious paper taped outside of one of the doors to a room.  I tried to read it, but it was a bunch of weird, scientific words that made zero sense to me.  Interesting, I thought, but continued on.  As we later found out, they were having some sort of tropical fish convention (guess that explained all of the cars in the parking lot) and people were advertising the fish they had outside of their doors.  Anyway.

So the room itself was very nice.  I don't think I took any pictures of it or anything else besides my costume, of which I will spare you the sight.  We had the standard two queens.  The bathroom had that awesome setup with the two sinks, one inside where the shower and terlet are and one outside.  We overlooked the airport and part of the parking lot so I was able to both watch planes land (I'm terrified of flying and airplanes in general) and see if any parking spots opened that I could direct my brother to upon his arrival.  That actually came in quite handy as he parked quite literally, in a space right below our window.

When my brother arrived, we lounged comfortably in the room drinking our beers and watching YouTube videos on my laptop, thanks to the free wifi.  Oh, the code was given to me at the front desk when I checked in.

We arrived back in the room after the Fest at about 1am, promptly fell asleep and didn't wake up until like 9:30am.  Nice beds.  My brother was not a fan of the pillows though.

I can't comment on the shower since my plans to utilize it completely fell through due to obscene laziness.  I'd hauled that huge shopping bag loaded with shower goods all the way to Kentucky for nothing.

Overall, according to my brother, the rate was the same here as it was the Courtyard Marriott but this definitely felt like a nicer hotel, not just a stop-through place to lay our heads.  I just might decide to stay here again when in Louisville for Lebowski Fest next time.  In the past they've offered a discounted rate for Achievers, which is awesome.  I don't know if they did this year and if so, if my brother took advantage of it.

See that picture below?  Yeah, that's the view from my room.  No, really, my room looks out into the exhibit hall.

But, hey, there are pros and cons to this arrangement.

Pros:
* If you're an exhibitionist or ever wanted to be one of those gals in the windows in the red light district, well, there you go.
* If you're not planning to be in your room a lot and want to get some sleep, this room is great.  It's dark, it's quiet, and as long as you leave the drapes closed, it's almost like your own private cave.

Cons:
* Well, it looks out on the exhibit hall
* It's dark and actually quite depressing if you're just sitting in there on a nice sunny day.  I will say that the dark and depressing actually motivated me to go out at night, which is a good thing.  So should this be a pro?  I don't know.

The thing that makes this place 4 stars is the service.  Actually the service makes it 5 stars but the exhibit hall view takes it down a notch.  Everyone that I encountered over the duration of my stay bent over backwards to make sure that I had everything I could ever need.  Everyone kept a smile and a great attitude too, even though it was a crazy Derby weekend.  I was seriously impressed.  That alone would prompt me to return.  It also doesn't hurt that this place is super close to the airport, convention center and Churchill Downs.  I didn't sit in any insane traffic like I expected.

I really enjoyed my stay at this Crowne Plaza, way more than expected.  I'll definitely be back the next time...just maybe in a room where I can open the curtains.

One star, and that's for the plants in the gym to liven up the place. Decent food I hear. But my room tv was completely not functioning. How am I suppose to fall asleep while watching my programs? Fuck.

Oh and I better not get bed bugs, Kentucky.

The bed was ok. The lobby is nice. The people were friendly. The price was ok. I would go back.
