The Hotel de la Monnaie has its pluses and minuses:

Pluses:  The Hotel sits directly across from the US Mint Museum and diagonally across from the French Market on Esplanade.  Technically it is in the Marigny, across the street from the French Quarter.  The staff are always friendly and helpful.  The hotel also features kitchenettes and free garage parking (on a first-come-first served basis).

Minuses:  The Hotel rooms vary in size with some being quite tiny.  The rooms tend to be dark and in much need of updating.  The decor reminds one of a trailer with 1980s style shower curtains, banged up furniture, and a kind of down at the heels feel.

The Hotel is relatively inexpensive and has a great location, but expect all the luxury of an old Howard Johnson's.

Honestly, I want to give the place a terrible review so it will stay laid back and quiet! I own a timeshare week here, so of course I like the place. The units can be small, but why are you staying in your room in New Orleans? Go outside!! The location is great, on the edge of both the French Quarter and Frenchman street. Close enough that it can get a tiny bit noisy on the weekends. Don't expect to be able to cook much in the tiny kitchen. The staff is really nice and helpful. I love the indoor courtyard, and the balcony overlooking Esplanade. This place does have the world's slowest elevators, and parking is hard to come by. I like the old furniture, it is charming!

    Hotel of the money...

Located directly across from the old U.S. Mint in the French Quarter, this hotel is one of my more favorite places to hide away.

The rooms are all very nicely done and can be had in a variety of sizes.  All (as far as I know) have kitchens and jacuzzi tubs.

The gem of this place is the courtyard on the inside - it is complete with a small wading pool, huge palm trees and is nice and shady and a cool spot to get away from that killer heat in the summer.

The hotel is located at the eastern edge of the French Quarter so you will be doing some walking to get to Bourbon street and the heart of the action.

My friend booked this hotel for our 12 person trip to Mardi Gras. I'm not going to lie, we stuffed ourselves in 2 rooms like sardines. But!! There was also a pull-out in both rooms, a kitchen, and a jacuzzi tub in the bathrooms. Plus, it's not like we stayed in that room for all too long. If we did, please call us a bunch of losers. Clean towels, fridge, and no bed bugs. That's all I need.

It was a great location. Right in French Quarter and it was nice that it was like 1 block from the French Market. Anybody who's been to the French Market knows it's a fun spot to be at. Plus, the staff was really nice and accommodating.

Clean and air conditioned.  The staff are lovely and very helpful. Safe entrance and free parking, if available.

Stay here and you will have more $$ for food, etc.

I stayed for Mardi Gras and was not very impressed by the rooms. I get that there is a theme of old quarter elegance in the rooms but I think they could've done better to achieve that. Out of all of it, the bathroom is the best room. They really went all out on it. My suite had a jacuzzi tub and nice tile floors. Mainly I think you pay for convenience of being so close to all the happenings in the French Quarter. Bourbon is a couple of streets down and the french market is basically across the street. Other than that, I was disappointed that there was no breakfast, the wading fountain pool wasn't heated so what was the point of even having it functional during the winter months? The staff is amazing though. They will go to great lengths for you :) Parking is cramped. They have a garage on the first floor that they use. There's also additional parking in back but you have to pay 50$/day for Mardi Gras (and you can't leave the lot). Out of all of this, you are mainly paying for convenience and nothing else.

This is a really nice hotel located at the end of Esplanade.

I met someone for a modeling gig here and I was really impressed with the place. It has a nice sized lobby right off of Esplanade. The room itself was open to a huge patio, which I thought was lovely. In the room there was a seating area complete with a sofa, chairs and tv. There was a kitchenette with a small fridge, sink, coffee maker and microwave and the bedroom in the back, although small, was nice for what it was. The bathroom was also pretty small, but it wasn't terrible.

Friendly staff and pretty easy to park. I think that they even have valet.
