Copley House is actually 4 different buildings all within a few blocks of the Prudential Center.  We stayed in their St Stephen St location.  The best thing going for it is the location.  It is within a few blocks of 2 T stops and several bus lines, so getting anywhere in the city is fast and easy.  It's also walking distance to Fenway Park, the Fens, Newbury St, Prudential Center, Museum of Fine Arts, and lots of dining on Boylston.

Now for the bad - the property is not well managed.  I can overlook mismatched towels and dishes, sloppy paint work, outdated furnishings, and tiny bathrooms, but I can't overlook the easy things like cleaning the carpet (it was gross), dusting the blinds, and washing the walls.  What bothered me most was that this was all easy stuff that would not take a lot of time or money to fix.  Because the office is several blocks away and not manned 24 hours we felt abandoned - I mean I didn't think that calling the emergency number at 10pm because they never left a spare roll of toilet paper was worth the hassle.  It was faster and easier to walk across the street to the drug store.  They did manage to leave a new roll of paper towels (which we never used).  The kitchenette had ever thing we needed and there are 3 grocery stores within a few blocks as well as several drug stores and convenience stores.

Things they couldn't control, but you need to be aware of.  You are in the middle of 5 colleges.  On weekends and during ball games the neighborhood is loud and busy.  There will be lots of drunken college kids wandering through the neighborhood.

Hotels in Boston are on the pricey side, so this was a cheaper alternative, but you do really get what you pay for.  I recommend calling and talking to someone live instead of using the Internet to get more information about the room, location, and amenities before making reservations.  The other properties may be in better shape and farther away from the noise and traffic.

A great deal for the price. We had our own studio basement apartment with a separate kitchen and our own little backyard. The location was pretty decent and the price was right, considering how expensive hotels in Boston are. The only issue was that we kept hearing the dripping water from upstairs.

Awesome deal.  (We actually paid a little bit more than the highest rates listed on their website however I think their normal rates are the best deal in Boston).  Absolutely great location.  The bed is older so if you require good bed for a good night sleep and a good night sleep is necessary then you probably will not be satisified here.  Also-

The room does allow for temperature control (we were told that we would get another blanket but we never did). So be prepared.

Because its an apartment style rental I did not assume they would come into the room for any reason.  They came into our to make our bed and everything we had laid out on the bed was then messed up.  be advised.

The worst directions from or to anywhere.  If you get directions from them- confirm with another source.

Otherwise.  Fantanstic deal.  We did not use the kitchen or anything so I cannot comment on it.

My hubby and I were visiting our son in Boston and I scoured trip advisor, expedia, vrbo etc....for a reasonable place near my son's apt and at the last minute I came across Copley House.  I read the reviews and was skeptical but decided to call.  I got Linda at the front desk and she was a jewel.  She not only helped me thoroughly over the phone but called me back when she was able to secure a unit that was closest to NEU.  When my son found out where I might be staying, he said "mom, you will get the college apt experience".  We went to the office to get our keys and Samia who was at the front desk was another helpful jewel - these gals deserve a good raise !!! We got to the apt and my son was the first to walk in and he said "WOW" (in a good way). Thanks Linda and Samia for securing this apt for us. Although there were a lot of steps (not good for anyone over 80), it was worth coming home to a nice living area....great TV...on my favorite street in Boston. I did call the day we were leaving regards some issues in the bathroom so I am hoping they will be taken care of because I do plan to come back someday...so that is why I gave my review 4 stars...but all in all we were very happy.  BTW we had trouble with your Office phone number, but I kept trying and finally got through so you may want to check on that.

This hotel was excellent. When I flew in from France for 6 days just over 3 years ago to scout for apartments and get ready for college, my mother and I stayed there. We loved the hotel, the rooms, and the area we stayed in. Everything was accessible. We had restaurants in the Prudential mall, the T nearby and Boston at our reach... just steps away from us.

We were plenty busy and really enjoyed the fact that we could relax in our rooms, and even store our own food in the fridge. They also have a microwave and we went shopping and whipped up some amazing french food in no time in our little mini kitchen. We usually used it mostly for breakfast but occasionally had dinner there to avoid spending extra money on dinner.

The staff there is very friendly and it is a very quiet hotel, away from the noisy Huntington Avenue nearby. It is also a very clean one. It is authentic in many ways but very well maintained. We left happy.

One word to describe my stay... wow, and not in a good way. As a European, very little about cheap accommodation can phase me. For all you Americans, I'd recommend you give this place a miss. Spend a bit more and go for a traditional hotel experience.

Great location, ten minutes from the Back Bay metro.  I arrived at the address, a house with a living room reception and was checked-in by a lovely guy. He gave me directions to my room/building down the street. Finding my room, I had to nearly knock the door down trying to get it to open. Maybe I should have stayed in the hallway.

It was a big studio apartment, designed in yellow, seventies style. Everything was in shades of cream and yellow. You could only laugh really, because it was so retro. I stopped laughing when the big screen TV would not work at all and the wi-fi was patchy at best. Sleeping in the room was laughable too, as the refrigerator hummed and knocked constantly like it was giving birth. I also didn't feel particularly safe as the door had a very dodgy lock and again, no security or in-house reception means you can't call anyone for help. Locking the door from outside, you had to slam it with your shoulder to make sure it was closed. Ouch, after two days of this.

I was also unsure if anyone came to clean, since it was an apartment, but they did make the bed and wash the dishes I had on the counter.

Pros: Fully equipped with TV, fridge, stove, microwave, kettle, toaster, full bath, table and chairs and dresser. Would be great if you wanted to make food in your room and have more of a living experience.

Negative: Very unconventional place to stay, retro furnishings, towels and plates and cups exactly the same as my mum had from when she got married.

I wouldn't stay here again but I appreciate that places like this exist to give travellers a cheap, clean place to stay.

the place is a dump.  it's a series of apartments along west newton street, that they rent out.  mine was horrid.  the building was nasty, the carpets filthy, the door broken, and the lock carved out by who-knows-who (burglar??).  the room was thrown together without any attention to detail--i dared not sit on any of the furniture.  the bathroom was pretty bad, too--touching surfaces was not for the squeamish.  NOW, if it was $75 a night, okay, but at $220, it is not cheap.  better to spend an extra $20-30 and stay somewhere better.  on the plus side, the location is great, and the bed was very comfortable.  oh, and the tv was huge.  i would not stay here again, unless i was absolutely deserate.  NOT an option for a family, no way.

This was the best way to see Boston, living in a Brownstone right in the heart of the city.  It was just the right size and accessible to trains, cabs or just walking.  We felt safe walking back at night and enjoyed the neighborhood atmosphere. Will truly recommend the Copley House to friends and family that visit Boston!!

this was a great place to stay. the staff were great and the amenities perfect. The location is centrally located near Huntington Ave. I would definitely stay there again.

BTW, I forgot some clothing items while I was running out to catch my taxi to the airport. the staff were wonderful in tracking me down and sending all of the items to my home. I would never expect this with a large hotel chain.

I heard about Copley House from a collegue, you can find hotel deals at the same price on priceline, 4 stars in Backbay. So I went for the "assumed homey experience" vs an impersonal hotel. Big mistake!
Really, I have never even seen such a dirty, filty place in my life, including when I was a penniless college student living on my own and staying in hostels all over the world -including third world- which is to say something!!!
The kitchen counters were so filty, there was a thick crust built up all over, I had to wash my hands everytime I accidently touched anything. Housekeepers were rude and disrespectful, knew nothing about cleaning either. Managed incredibly poorly, super unprofessional staff, security OMG! God can only protect you!
Not to mention the credit card abuse. You have to fight for overcharges for weeks ahaed..
Stay away, don't even think about it!

We were at Copely House twice during our stay in Boston, and both times were extremely pleased with the quality of service and our rooms. This is a great place to stay with kids, as it is centrally located with many wonderful shops and restaurants in a very safe area. The staff is very responsive and helpful. We will be staying at Copely again when we return to Boston.

I stayed here for one night recently with my boyfriend for a birthday road trip. We had no problem checking in and the check-in staff was incredibly helpful, offering to ride with us to help us find the correct place to park our car. The one bedroom apartment was beautiful! They even had a bottle of champagne set out for my birthday! Small, but perfect for just 2 people. Fully equipped kitchen, nice bathroom, small bedroom, nice TV/fireplace/living area and small dining table with good view of the street. The location was AMAZING! We were able to walk and explore easily without needing a vehicle.

The only negatives: the bedroom AC unit didn't work as well as I would have liked and it was a little too hot throughout the night. The bed was also not super comfy.

I would DEFINITELY stay here again in the future.

We rented a room here for Halloween night. I chose this place for the price and location and was not disappointed. Copley House is easy walking distance to a lot of great restaurants, bars, sights, etc. I expected a small room, and the room itself was great, but the bathroom was very small. As a small woman, I was fine, but the larger men in the group had trouble even closing/opening the door while in the bathroom. Not really comfortable to get changed in either. The kitchenette was great and had plenty of cups/plates/silverware and a coffee maker with coffee.
We were a little surprised to see the size of the beds because the listing advertised a queen sized bed and a full sized sofa bed. We have a queen bed in our apartment, and the bed in our room at Copley house was definitely not a queen, and the sofa bed was a single. We still slept four people fine, but not as comfortably as we would have hoped.
The room was very quiet and we slept well after a good night out. The final thing I would suggest is putting some curtains on the windows, as there was a streetlight that easily shone through the blinds all night.
Overall a good experience though, and we will look here again if we need a place to stay in the city.

I stayed at Copley House in a studio apartment.  This was my first visit to Boston.  Copley House is in an ideal location with an easy walk to all the main sites of Boston.  You can be in the North End in less than half an hour, Fenway Park was less than 25 minutes for me.  There is a nice little park across the street, so the rooms that face West Newton street get lots of light and it's a great place to take a bag lunch.  There is a Whole Foods less than 15 minutes walking distance away and lots of other retail and dining opportunities.  I fell in love with the city and with Copley House.  The staff is very welcoming and goes out of their way to make sure all is well.  It's not fancy, but clean, comfortable and well maintained and it fits the budget conscious.  I would stay here again and certainly recommend to all.

We stayed here for a few reasons. First of all, it was rather affordable. It was in a good location, many popular Boston sites are within walking distance or if not there's a train stop very close. And lastly, as someone who travels for work, staying somewhere that felt a bit homey greatly appealed to me versus spending the night at another hotel.

Overall we enjoyed our stay. The room was the perfect size for two people. It did feel cozy and homey with hardwood floors and crown molding. It's on a beautiful, quiet street lined with brownstone buildings. We felt safe walking around the area, even at night.

I really only had two complaints. The bathroom was incredibly tiny and desperately in need of a remodel. I didn't even want to stand bare foot on the tile or in the shower. The second is communicating with the hotel staff. Everyone from the front desk staff to the room cleaners were European (French I believe?) and did not speak English very well. I had trouble communicating with the front desk when I called the hotel upon arrival into Boston, when I checked in, and then there was some sort of mix up and cleaning ladies kept coming to our room to try to clean it on our first day there. Everyone was nice, I just never expected to have an issue communicating with an entire hotel staff at an American hotel.

When we first began researching places to stay in Boston, Copley House immediately grabbed our attention based on the great reviews found online.  After staying there, I see why.  The location is pretty much second to none in this price range.  It is close to Prudential Center and several T stops.  We walked to Fenway from here.  Very convenient.  The staff was super friendly and very helpful.  Check in was quick and easy.  Our room was 501 on 83 St. Botolph St.  It was a basement studio.  There was plenty of room and everything was clean. I would stay here again next time I'm in Boston and I recommend it to other travelers.

I had a great experience staying here with my family for my sister's law school graduation. It is an excellent hotel, very strategically located. I loved staying in the apartment style rooms, it made me feel like I was experiencing the area more like a local!

Additionally, I left a dress in the closet and realized while on the plane home to San Diego. The staff I spoke with were very helpful and accommodating and sent me my dress back immediately. Great customer service!

This was my home away from home for 2 weeks. Great studio apartment.  The bed did take up most of the space, but hey...it was comfy.  I chose this over a hotel because the expense was considerably less than what I have paid in the past.  And I was able to cook my own food, was close to great food options, close to Zipcars, across the street from a laundromat and had a park to look out on.  The Southwest Corridor pedestrian park is awesome.  Will definitely being staying here the next time I visit.

Stayed here at the 171 St. Rodolph St location in a standard suite for 3 nights and loved it. The location was fantastic, the price was right, and the room itself was very clean and comfortable. I liked having a larger-than-mini fridge and a kitchen sink in the room. I was here by myself and the room was plenty big enough--for two people, I also think this would be fine especially if you won't be spending much time in the room. The staff I interacted with at check-in and when calling about questions were very friendly and professional. I'd definitely come back here soon when work brings me to Boston again.

This update is basically for their service.
After hearing about the mix up with my reservation, I was contacted by the general manager and he worked out a way for me to get my refund.
I gave them a call and while he was out of the office for the night, the staff at the front desk were kind enough to help me get my refund back.

I later learned that perhaps this is a problem with reserving with Expedia, but regardless, I'm just glad it worked out!

We stayed at 240 W. Newton right across the street from the main office, The Studio looked just like it did on the images from trip advisor, We got room 603 (basement), We were pleasantly surprised to find the room not too tight but "cosy", It was neat and  clean and adequate to our needs. *note. On a night with 10 degree temps outside the place was warm and welcoming...BONUS...Heated shower floor, also...LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION...We'll most definitely stay here again on our return trip this coming April.

Staying here made me feel young again.

Like I was back in college and couldn't afford a decent place to stay!!  And yet, this was the most expensive room out of five other hotels we stayed in this summer, but definitely the worst...by a lot.

I don't understand all the other positive reviews on Yelp and Trip Advisor.  Perhaps we just got the worst one (#501 on 83 St. Botolph Street)?  The furniture was nice, the neighborhood was quiet, and parking was a decent price, so I'll give 2 stars.  But that's about it....the rest was a really shabby basement studio with a smelly hallway, broken headboard, disgusting refrigerator, annoyingly loud window air conditioner, and filthly old bathroom.

The location of this hotel is perfect! It's only about a block away from the Prudential Center (tons of shopping and you can catch the Duck Tour). The hotel is a little different. It used to be apartments that were then converted to hotel rooms. Our room was very cozy and furnished well, it felt like we were staying at a friend's apartment. Parking is behind the building and cost $15 a night.

I would stay here again!

Great idea for accommodation: guest houses with in-room kitchenettes in Back Bay. I thought the room itself was ok and spacious for the price. Clean. Didn't like street floor level. Ask for a room above the ground if you want to have a window that opens. Common interior was kind of shabby but room itself was ok. Desk clerks were very nice.

We stayed here for 4 nights and it was a delight.  Our studio apartment was on the top floor of the main office building.  It was clean, nicely decorated, great size and had all the amenities you would require.  There is a maid service which was a pleasant surprise and makes it feel even more like a hotel.
The location of the Copley is perfect, Boston is a walking city and here you are in prime location for walking anywhere, it is on a beautiful street with all brownstone buildings and it made us feel like we were living in Boston.
I was extremely happy with everything the Copley has to offer, including the price.  If we ever return to Boston, this is where I will stay and I would highly recommend it.  It's perfect.

Was disappointed in my stay for two nights this week, after seeing the mostly glowing reviews. Studio apartment ('garden'/basement level) was adjacent to another unit under major renovation, no warning. Table saw shrieking most of the day.  Second night heard water running somewhere overhead all night. No hot water the next morning; waited an hour, until I finally had to leave for flight.  I hate icy showers. Unlikely to return, in spite of good location, etc.
5/4  General manager Christian has reached out, apologizing kindly for the problems, and offering recompense.  Classy.  Will definitely try it again.

I'm going the full 5 stars on this one. What a find! Had a conference at Sheraton a very short distance away but opted for a charming one bedroom apartment in a brownstone across from a park (at a lower-than-the-conference rate). Fully equipped, great free wireless, and WAY more character. Convenient to the T and lots of restaurants, but somehow just out of all the conference chaos. Staff is super helpful. I highly recommend Copley House for your next visit to Boston.

Great location. Especially while the flowers are blooming. Close to everything. The property condition is the issue. We asked for anything but a basement room and were given a basement anyway. It was musty and didn't feel secure.

The bed was comfortable and the linens were nice. We also appreciated the very low noise level.

The problem is the dated condition of the room. The shower is so small you can't turn without the curtain sticking to you (note I'm 5'2 and petite). The floor of the shower was also caving in. It was very uncomfortable and felt unsafe. Bring your flip flops if you stay here.

The sink in the bathroom was also cracked and caving in. It seemed to be a theme.  The a/c in the window is very old and smelled musty when run as well.

The kitchen is a nice perk if staying more than one night. We didn't use it. For the price there are better options if only the basement is available.  We'd give them one more chance in a 2nd floor room but will never stay again without that guarantee. The alley that had easy access into our room was filled with trash.

Stayed there for 3 days over the weekend in March.  The stay was great, the location was near everything we needed to have and get to see.

The kitchen had everything you need, pans, plates, etc.

You essentially get your own apartment in a great little street that is quiet and well kept.
