History

Established in 1962.

Bobby Baker's Carousel opened almost a half century ago as a get away for Washington politicians.  The exciting legacy of Bobby Baker's Carousel is riddled with a rich history of scandal and conspiracy, but since then has passed through many hands to the current owners today.  Since the 1970's the Carousel hotel has been expanded upon and a 22 story high rise has been erected.  Hospitality Partners took over the Carousel building over a decade ago, and has since invested millions of dollars towards renovations. Every year the Carousel executives put a lot of time and money into updating and beautifying this historic family resort.  Features of this ocean front hotel include; an ice rink, indoor lounge, outdoor patio bar and grill, indoor and outdoor pool, spa, sauna, restaurant, arcade and bistro.  Throughout the summer the Carousel offers food and drink specials, along with a professional nightly skating show, featured everyday of the week.

i didn't expect much from carousel nor did it exceed my expectations. Check in was quick and easy. The decor of the resort and the room were outdated but the room itself was larger than I expected. I also liked that we had a kitchenette with a microwave bc we were able to reheat food. Our room was right by the skating rink which sucked because they would play music early in the morning and it was pretty loud. Had a balcony overlooking the parking lot but we weren't in our room much to really care. Liked that it is beachfront and we didn't have a problem really with anything. Tried to eat at the restaurant in the resort but service was extremely slow to non existent and the food didn't look appetizing, so we went outside across the street to green turtle. They had a better selection there. I stayed in the hotel section which probably isn't as nice as the condos but it was cheapest I could find on such short notice.

I first stayed here a few years ago with my family and not much has changed, though that is a good thing.  I love the variety that the Carousel has to offer.  The first room I stayed in was oceanfront and extremely nice, I loved being able to walk out our balcony and be on the beach.  The ice skating rink is something that is different but nice, it is the only hotel i've been to and heard of that offers this.  It is a great place for kids as there is so much to do well staying there.  The second time I stayed here was during Bike Week this past August, i think.  That room was just as nice, but wasn't oceanfront.  It is a little on the expensive side but worth it when you consider all they have to offer.  I can't wait to return.

Ah, the wonderful weirdness that is The Carousel. I've stayed here a few times now (once upon a time in the condos in college, and recently twice for an annual conference.) It's an old, huge beach hotel with an ice rink inside, so take what you'd like from that.

The wireless connection sucks. I affectionately call the place "The Gulag" because it appears to be built out of concrete and cinderblocks, and it's old. It's really weird to sit out by the ice rink at night and check your email, but a girl's gotta get her fix. But if you're there for a beach vacation only and not work you shouldn't care about that so much.

Beach access is right there, and the ocean views are nice. My boss got me a room that had (get this) a full-sized whirlpool tub right by the bed. Plus it had a beachfront deck. The rooms themselves are not fancy by any stretch, but were clean (which is really mostly what I care about.) The bed was okay.

The outside bar is too expensive for the venue, and I had to return my margarita because of the salt lick at the bottom. But if you're in OC, why are you drinking at the Carousel anyway??? Get your butt to Seacrets. ; )

The grossest thing about this trip was the FLIES! There were just way too many of them in the lobby by the snack area. I think there must be something they can do. My friends and I went across the street to the Greene Turtle for lunch. I wasn't interested in eating the conference lunch. Flies. Ick.

The front desk staff and housekeeping are all very friendly, and overall it's a comfy beach hotel, with the caveats I've listed. There are plenty of other options, as they say, "Down 'e ocean" but I'd stay here on my own again, in a pinch.

The Carousel Ice Rink was a welcome treat on a blistering hot day. This is well maintained, not too cold and priced right! Anyone who wants to escape the heat should try it once. They even have walkers for those that are unsure on their skates. Nothing beats iceskating at the beach!

I stayed here on a family vacay along with Sheila F. and Sara N. in August. I had never been to Ocean City, nor had I ever stayed here before, so I had nothing to which I could compare this place.

On the whole, I really enjoyed my time here. I would be thrilled to come here again, mainly because it was close enough to good restaurants and fun stuff yet far away from the loud, rowdy parts of Ocean City. My MIL did a fabulous job of picking it out!

One nice thing about this place was the cable TV--many hotels offer 20 (if that!) channels, but this place offered a full spectrum of channels, including several sports stations. Sure, I didn't come here to watch TV, but when I wanted to catch up on NFL preseason action, I was able to do so. I really liked the outdoor bar and music too--they had live music on one afternoon which made for an enjoyable lunch. They had Yuengling (sp?) on tap for $2.50 or so, which was cool because we don't have it here in Cleveland and it made relaxing outside with a drinks a low cost activity. When (not if) I come here again, I would like to spend more time chilling by the outdoor pool--unfortunately, it wasn't that hot while we were here =(

Our room was nice and well-maintained, although the climate control system made the room either frigid or steamy hot.

I liked the big atrium area, and when I come again, I'd like to spend more time relaxing in there too. They constantly played music in there over the loudspeakers, making it a fun place to be. We caught the ice show on our last night there and it was pretty good.

My biggest gripe about the place was that it had a bit of an Orwellian feel to it--there were signs EVERYWHERE telling people what they could not do and every time one wanted to do something simple (i.e. check out lawn chairs, enter the pool area) we had to show room keys, sign in, etc. All of that had the sum total effect of making me feel on edge...seriously, I just wanted to take a dip in the pool, why should I have to fill out a huge form to do so?

I highly recommend the Carousel. It's not a loud party hotel though, so don't show up here with a few 24 packs of Natty Light and expect to be loud all night long!

The Carousel is a nice, affordable option for O.C. The hotel must be a good place for families because it was filled with families and little kids.

The room was nice. Two double beds, a large closet and dresser and a little kitchen area with fridge/freezer, microwave and a sink. There also was a table. The hotel has a high rise and an atrium part. We were in the three level atrium part and our room faced the ice rink and restaurant. Even though it was indoors, the room had a balcony with two comfy chairs to lounge in and people watch.

The hotel has an indoor and an outdoor pool. It also has a sauna and showers available in the pool restroom. There is an outdoor beach side restaurant and bar, an indoor restaurant and bar and a coffee shop type restaurant. The outdoor restaurant was great for lunch while at the beach. A decent sized menu with burgers, fries, hot dogs, pit beef, ahi tuna sandwiches, etc. All very good and reasonably priced. The bar had a very good happy hour with $2 drinks.

As another reviewer mentioned, the elevators are lacking. There are 2 for floors 2 to 11 and 2 elevators for floors 11 to 22. This means it gets crowded fast and tired, sandy people coming back from a day at the beach are cranky. So bring your patience and a good attitude. We stayed on the 3rd floor. So if we were not carrying beach stuff, we normally took the steps.

A nice plus (I'm not sure if this is standard or a promotion we received) was two beach chairs every day of our stay. You received a card and turned it in every day for the two chairs. The chairs were nice and comfy.

The carousel has both condos and a hotel.  I rented 2 condos on the 12th floor.  One through the carousel and other a private owner(s) timshare.  They were both OK but one much nicer than the other in terms of cable TV, flatscreen, kitchen accesories, upkeep.

Pros: balcony overlooking the beach and balcony outside front door looking bay. hint, if someone is there and you are parking, call and ask them to give you a birdseye of the spaces out front. Also, the parking garage is low so a rooftop carrier may not clear 7 feet. One condo came with chairs to borrow at the beach each day so no lugging up and down. Outdoor pool was refreshing, indoor pool warmer, kids not allowed in jacuzzi,  iceskating is fun and cheap, bar and food right at the beach, lounge indoors, videogame room, store, restaurant, movie night on the beach BBQ night.

Cons: Three elevators but only one goes above 11th floor so during check in and check out times it gets slow.  If I didn't have a lot to carry I just walked the one flight to the 12th. There needs to be more movement at dropoff, cars appeared parked there too long: hint, when borrowing a luggage cart (inside to the left)  they need your license so have it ready or have a Bellhop bring bags up and start your vacation.
Green lasers should be banned and violators evicted.

I would go back but ask for pictures of the actual unit and stay at the 11th floor or lower.

I grew up in the Carousel, my family owns 3 condominium units. It is definitely a classic OC establishment and will continue to frequent here.

Was here during trip 1 to OC in August '09 and stayed one night. The room was clean, but you definitely got that shabby feel to the decor. Not sure if it was just the room that we got, or if it was standard, but our 2 double bed room was HUGE, like if we had sleeping bags, we could have easily fit 4 more people.

The woman at the front desk wasn't exactly friendly, but I suppose one could call her efficient as she got us through the check in process, though a smile would have been nice.

Oh well, if you're looking for an affordable option in OC, this is it. It becomes cheap if you choose to pack the room and bring air mattresses or sleeping bags.

Stayed two nights (July 16, 17, 2011). The room was shabby and old. The bed was OK but nothing to write home about, the sheets were thin, the comforter was cheap and scratchy (you definitely needed the sheet as a buffer), towels were thin and coarse, the drapes had holes in them that you couldn't see until early in the morning when the sun shined. The room only had two electic outlets, one behind the bed and one for the TV (a basic 27" tube TV) -- a problem if you have a couple of cell phones or laptops to charge. The lobby looks upscale but the rooms are your basic generic motor lodge room. Stay only for the beach location and amenities of the hotel. If that doesn't matter you can get a better room at the Holiday Inn Express up the street and save the money.

Nothing special about this hotel. Our room was pretty old and beat up. Definitely needs an upgrade in the room decor. The beds didn't have bed skirts and the mattress were outdated and lop sided. The shower would get cold when you were in the middle of a shower. Besides that the city was very nice.

Went to this hotel, it was the cheapest one at the time, 130/night. Its not bad, but the service could be better. we had some cleaning fluid left in the tub, Had to turn the shower on for a while. The beds are'nt that comfortable either.
They do have a indoor and outdoor pool which is not bad and a small indoor ice skating rink. It seemed more for kids. Its in a great location with access to all the restaurants and attractions in Ocean City and about 15 miles from a much better Rehoboth beach. Book early, really early otherwise you might get stuck with a room with a view of the parking lot or worse, a view of the ice rink inside.

    Pros:
Haven't been to OC, MD in a long time.  This was a very good way to do it!  The distance from the boardwalk kind of sucks, but the Carousel does a very good job of keeping you interested in staying in the area.  For one, every guest gets a free beach chair to bring to the beach.  This may seem like a minimal plus, but it was great for my wife and I, who did not bring beach chairs.

In addition, there is an indoor pool as well as an outdoor one.  Next to the outdoor pool is a bar (food and drinks!) with either live or DJ'ed music playing all day!  There are a bunch of palm trees in the area to complete the 'resort' look.

The ice skating rink is a cool concept.  Unfortunately we didn't get to see the ice show or go ice-skating, but the people we talked to that had seemed to rather enjoy it!

The room we had (faced North, slight view of the ocean) had 2 queen-size beds, a comfy-ish couch, a big mini-fridge with icebox, microwave, small kitchen sink, coffee maker, and nice-size bathroom.  It was very convenient to the plethora of stairs in the building, which was a plus.  Luckily, we were on the 2nd floor, so we rarely ever took the slow elevators.

    Cons:
The service isn't terribly special though.  Every worker there walks around with walkie-talkies with volumes set to 11.  This sucks if you were up late on a Saturday night and trying to get a little extra sleep on Sunday.  Note to Carousel: If walkie-talkies are so loud that it wakes me up while sleeping, they are TOO LOUD!  Arg!

The elevators were definitely slow.  Lucky for us, we only took them twice during our whole trip.

    Summary:
Finally, I'd still recommend this hotel.  The price was decent, the parking was super-easy, the beach right in front was convenient and close, and the amenities helped make it more like a 'resort' experience, rather than just a beach hotel.

The Carousel is very easy to find, right on the main strip in northern Ocean City.  It is NOWHERE near the boardwalk, so if that's what you're looking for, look elsewhere.  There is stuff to do around here, but not much in walking distance.  It is directly on the beach, with two beach access areas.  Outside, they offer a kiddie pool, an adult pool, a bar and food area, plenty of tables and chairs.  They do have handicap beach wheel chairs if you need them, which I thought was very nice.  Though I did not see it, there is one tennis court.
Parking was easy and plentiful.  During peak season, there is also a parking garage, but it is not adjoined to the hotel, so you will have to walk.  They do have luggage carts for you, but  there aren't many and you cannot bring them into your rooms (?).  The free WIFI here is HORRIBLE!  On the fourth floor, you can sometimes get a full signal, but the second floor we were barely able to get 1 bar.  Another couple we ran into said there WIFI on the third floor was awful as well and they changed rooms and it was still barely usable.  Guess we can't complain about free though.
The lobby is small and very dated.  To me, it seems the whole Ocean City strip is stuck in the late 80's!  It's quite peculiar.  Our first room was an ocean front, 4th floor room, but we moved because we wanted a king bed, not 2 double/queens.  Our second room, the king, had a jacuzzi tub (which I will never use in ANY hotel room anyway), a sofa bed couch, a  small table with two chairs, a 4 drawer dresser/TV stand, fridge, microwave, closet and a coffee maker.  The bed was uncomfortable and very squeaky.  The pillows were lumpy, though there were plenty in the room.  The bathroom is tiny.  The showers were weak but warm.  Our toilet was not flushing a few times and we needed to keep taking the lid off and manually lifting the flapper; quite inconvenient.  The drop ceiling was in need of a new one, or just needed to be thoroughly cleaned.  Speaking of which, the entire room, is in need of an overhaul or at least a deep cleaning.  The AC/heater vents had gray dust all over them and on the ceiling next to them.  The carpets and sheets were clean.
I don't prefer to have housekeeping come in daily to give new towels etc.  I placed a DND in the door before I left and when I returned, the DND door card was gone, the room was cleaned, the towels replaced and my sliding glass door in the back was open!?
The hotel offers MANY things for the kids to do, (though ours were not with us this trip).  They have a small ice skating rink, an indoor pool, hot tub, fitness room, 2 ping pong tables, a pool table, sauna and locker rooms.  All close at 9-10pm.  The pool is oval, decent temperature and clean.  The hot tub is in need of an overhaul; the jets don't work well, the water wasn't at a good temp the first night and the handrails to get out are wobbly.
We only ate at the restaurant (Seasons) for breakfast.  Pretty bad if you ask me.  The frozen potatoes were just that, frozen.  The eggs over easy were not cooked enough (still had gelatinous whites), the toast was cold, though the bacon was good and our coffee was luke warm.
Despite this review, from what i have heard from others here in OC, this hotel is one of the more updated and nicer places to stay.  I didn't mind staying here, but next time I might choose something more modern, like the Hilton or Holiday Inn Express down the strip near the Boardwalk.  I gave it three stars, because I think out of all the places to stay, this is probably one of the better ones.

I arrived here on such a really ugly and rainy day, but when I got to my condo, I was so amazed. The room was spacious and beautiful and well manicured. There were three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a dine in kitchen. Oh, there was also a balcony. I felt so comfortable here that it was ridiculous.
The facility had an ice skating rink, a game room, and of course, conference rooms.
But my only issue was that it was very cold in my room at night; im not sure if the heat was working or not.
Being that we had a condo, we did not have room service for our entire stay, so it was a "you clean up behind yourself" type of situation. Lol.
There were enough towels to last the whole stay, and the room also had a washer, dryer, and an iron.
I didn't have ANY interaction with hotel staff, but whatever.
I feel that this place is amazing and it would be ten times better in the summertime!

After having booked this hotel a few weeks ago for its cheap rates, I am definitely sure that next time I come to OC I will stay in a name brand hotel, ie holiday inn or Hilton. Upon arriving into our room we noticed it wasn't very clean. The shower was dirty, I found a piece of hair in every towel I opened and later that night noticed a huge dead moth in the light in the kitchen. We were also given a room that was right outside the ice rink where they play music loudly from 10-10 daily. This was obnoxious and too much for me to bear. We complained about the lack of cleanliness and were transferred to a different room on the other side of the hotel at no extra charge. I also wanted to stay because of the famous ice rink but oh, to our surprise it was closed the week we are here. Major bummer. I do commend them for accommodating me after complaining but I will not return here for $100 a night.

I stayed here over the weekend on a girls' trip to the beach and when I saw "resort" I thought "Awesome!!"

Well on my way there, a couple friends had arrived early and warned us saying "it's like the number one family hotel..." You know what that means!! Lotsa kids. I don't mind kids so much but when they're all over the place running around, not fun.

The place is very far from the boardwalk, which is fine by me as you get away from the overpopulated areas and can actually get a good spot on the beach. The building and decor is a little outdated - all the furniture in our room was covered in counter laminate material. In terms of size though, our room was pretty big. We had two queen beds and a kitchenette. Once we got over the awesome decor it wasn't too bad.

To save money we picked a room that overlooked the atrium instead of the outside. We just had fun with that. Our balcony was covered in carpet and came with two plush chairs. Our view was of the skating rink and the indoor tiki bar. We could watch people playing pool and ice skating which was neat, but when they blasted music or at night when people were just chatting, we could hear it all, very loudly.

Their elevator service is very crappy. I can understand it being busy during high traffic times but even when it's not, you still had to wait a long time. The elevators are also very SMALL and there are only 2 going for a span of about 10 floors so you had to wait A LOT. We used the stairs a lot. It was so bad that at checkout time we opted to carry all of our luggage down 4 flights of stairs after waiting at least 10 minutes for an elevator that could fit at least half of us came down.

Overall the place was a bit weird for me but not bad for what it had to offer - a few tiki bars, restaurants, indoor and outdoor pool, skating rink, pool, net access (which sucks by the way), kitchenette. It just wouldn't be my first choice.

Amazing!!! My family and I have been staying here twice a year for the past 8 years. We have stayed at the same condo for the last 4 years. We usually get the condo for our week vacation and a hotel room when we stay for a couple of days at the end of the summer. Out of all of our stays I can honestly say this place is clean and well stocked. The staff is amazing. In today's society you do not see good customer service anymore BUT at the Carousel you see GREAT customer service. No matter the time or volume of people they are always friendly and helpful with a smile on their face. I refuse to stay anywhere else. We recommend the Carousel to everyone. Our Aunt even bought a condo this year on the 20th floor to live. I would not take any if these negative comments to heart. After staying here as long as we have you would think if there was any problems we would have ran into at least one if them by now but no our stats are always nice. If your looking for a nice relaxing vacation then look no further then the Carousel. See you next year!!!!

This place was one step up from being a dump. For small kids it can work but that's it. As for the prized ice rink. It was in such poor condition when we tried skating that an iced parking lot is probably smoother.

If you have allergies or a child with allergies go somewhere else! The air vent in the bathroom as well as main vent for air conditioning and heat in the bedroom were full of dust and grime. It was disgusting.

I stumbled upon the Carousel Resort Hotel while searching for an affordable place to stay for 2 nights in Ocean City.   I was attracted to the the low rates, beach access and kid friendly environment.

We arrived a few hours before check in and the front desk clerk said we could hang out at the pool until our room was ready.

The pool area had both a large pool and a fenced in baby pool, which was great because we have a 2 and a 4 year old.    Next to the pool was bar and restaurant with affordable prices.   Happy Hour Miller Lites were $1.50!   There was a DJ, too.    They had a pirate ship playset for the kids as well.

The rooms were spacious and decently clean.   There were some signs of wear but did not concern us in the least.   Beds were comfortable.   We stayed in one of the rooms overlooking the skating rink.  It was fun to watch people skate but the music was loud and bled into the room.   Luckily the skating rink closed at 10PM.

The beach access was great and we received two free chair rentals with our stay.

I've read some reviews of this place being dirty.   I cannot concur.   Everywhere you looked there was someone vacuuming, sweeping, cleaning windows or picking up trash.   I thought they did a good job and keeping the place clean.

We liked the Carousel and will return again.   Lots of little perks for the kids.

I stayed here recently for the first time and my sister has been coming for years and swears by it.

When we arrived there was a line out side the hotel to check in which I had never seen before. It took my sister prob about a hour to get checked in. Luckily they had alot to occupy my toddler while we waited. I especially enjoyed all the perks of this hotel... coin rides for the kids, in/outdoor pool, snack bar, ice skating rink and more.

We stayed in an atrium facing room which was not bad at all but my sister did request a balcony to the outside but it was too busy to go back to say anything. The rooms were clean and beds comfortable enough.

My only issues were that first day, the cleaning service did not come to clean our room until almost four when my toddler was sleeping so we just got fresh towels and trash removed. The next day, they just made the beds, left the most full trash can in the bathroom and picked up towels. When there is no card saying not to change the sheets, I would expect my sheets to be changed... Also, they come way too early knocking at 9am.

Oh well all in all I would recommend this place!

Stayed here for two nights at the end of September. Was a little concerned about the number of teenagers and VWs hanging in the parking lot (must've been a VW convention that weekend), and at one point, my friend had to berate a group that was horsing around in the hallway during the middle of the night.

But the two-bedrood condos were much nicer than we expected. Full kitchens, washer and dryer, and a spacious common areas. We were pleasantly surprised at how nice the condos were. So that alone changed my initial opinion.

I arrived here today and I am ready to leave. I usually don't write reviews this quickly, but I am so disgusted and disappointed that I cannot wait.

We arrived today and upon entering our condo, noticed that the place was DIRTY. We spent an hour sterilizing and cleaning the kitchen, bathrooms, tabletops, dressers, etc. This place was disgusting. After opening the refrigerator, we realized that there was a huge puddle of water at the bottom - we cleaned it up, only to have it fill up again. We now have a large bowl in the refrigerator catching the water.

I just went to take a shower and there is HAIR from OTHER PEOPLE all over the shower. That is DISGUSTING. I tried rinsing it all out, and if I had some cleanser with me, I would have cleaned it myself. So, it's safe to say that the shower was not cleaned at all from the last people here and that makes me want to gag. I am showering the entire week with flip flops.

I don't know who they hired to clean these condos, but they need to be FIRED IMMEDIATELY because they didn't clean a damn thing. I don't even want to go to bed for fear of what is under my sheets. I refuse to TOUCH the comforter because I am sure it is filthy.

What else, I could go on for days....the remotes don't work, the lamp doesn't work, they duct taped the screen door, my closet door is off the hinge, the water pressure in the shower sucks. The only good thing about this place is the air conditioning and proximity to the beach.

I had stayed in a condo 2 years ago in Hilton Head and this is about 2000 levels below that condo. This is sub-par and for the money we are paying, we are seriously disappointed. Vacation is supposed to be fun and exciting - this condo is a huge buzzkill.

Don't stay here. It's filthy and not worth the money it costs. The condo people will be hearing from me soon, as well.

Stayed here for a bachelorette party. Dumb idea. The "oceanfront" room is really just a view (and soundtrack) of the grill/bar and pool outside. If you want privacy of any kind or a serene ocean view, this is not the place. All day they have god awful live music outside and around 8pm (on weekends too) they start pressure washing everything. Loudly.
Inside the hotel the ice skating rink may be fun for little ones but even if your room isn't "atrium view" it is right there in the center of the hotel right outside your door. By the way, your room has a huge window into this packed lobby. You can listen to the music playing in the atrium area until, you guessed it, around 8pm when the zamboni comes out. Pair this with the pressure washer out back and you can forget about any feeling of serenity.

That being said, its on the beach. There's easy access to the hotel restaurants and bar. I'm sure your kids would love it.

For adults, however, no. I'd say "who cares where you stay you shouldn't be in the room anyway" but this place is on 117th and that's a good way away from all the fun stuff.

    Never again.

I stayed at Carousel a few times over the years and it really is a decent place to stay.  On my last visit, the room was right on top of the skating rink which really sucked because of the noise.  Of course the ocean view rooms are much better because you don't have to listen to a bunch of screaming children all night.  Both the 2 bedrooms and regular rooms are spacious, but a bit outdated.  Carousel always seems to have a room for me when I go to Ocean City at the last minute, so for that I am forever grateful.

I liked this place for what it is.  The rooms appeared to be clean and the staff friendly.  Please don't expect it to be a Marriot hotel.  For the kids and on somewhat of a budget it's acceptable.  The ice skating rink is a nice addition.

It's ocean front and we always get ocean front rooms.  It was nice that the beach is very close to the hotel so no issues going back and forth to your room if you forgot something.

After reading previous reviews on here, I was skeptical about the stay. I must say that I have been very impressed. The front desk has been very helpful with whatever we needed. Having access to the beach with 3 young kids is very nice. I have read reviews about the elevators breaking down and the AC not working. None of this has occurred. The only concerns I had was that I wish they would offer one night free skating for the family. With 3 kids and my wife and I, it adds up especially if I'm not sure my kids would enjoy it.

After reading all the mixed reviews I was very concerned about our upcoming stay. I had no need to worry. Check in was fast and easy. Our room was a king with pull out sofa on the beachfront. Luckily we were in a special portion of the hotel that had its own elevator with only four floors. No waiting at all. Our room was clean and large with a small kitchenette area with mini fridge, sink, coffee maker, large shelf for the food we brought and drawers and cupboards.

Some reviewers complained of cleanliness, but housekeeping was great and our room was clean. Yes, they did arrive at 9 AM to clean but we just had them take out garbage and give us fresh towels.

Kids loved the skating and coffee shop with ice cream cones.  Free beach chairs were a plus. We took advantage of the $50 food voucher and used it to pay for the four of us to have BBQ outside one night.

Beautiful view of the ocean from our balcony. Lovely vacation for a family!

My family and I have been coming to the Carousel for years but the service has really dropped off recently.

When I booked our room I was apprehensive. So many bad reviews, I expected a body to fall out of the closet. I travel a lot with my family, and I have to say it was a very pleasant stay. We have (yes have, we are still here. We leave tomorrow) an ocean view room  and when I walked in, I was looking for the infamous hair in the bathroom. None to be found. Our room was clean, the ice show was wonderful, the beach is right out of the door, and the staff was helpful. I found lots of the young people working in the area are from Europe working here for the summer. Maybe the cultural differences make people say they are rude. A smile is contagious is all I have to say. I had a great time and will return, but I will only stay in an ocean view room. It is worth it if you love the beach and the ocean. The kids just came in from the ice show ( there is an ice rink in the lobby where guests can skate) so we are going to the Crab Bag to eat. Locals suggested it so away we go!

PS- there is a supermarket directly across the street, the hotel shows movies on the beach, if you have children this is the place.

We stayed here for a 2 night get away.  If you have kids they will love it!!!
It's so much for little kids to do.   They loved the Arcade, The Ice Cream Truck, The Ice Skating, and the Pool.  The view of the beach from our room was great!  Now although the kids LOVED it but my hubby and were not as pleased.  It was like we walked into the 80's.  This place needs a serous update.  While it was clean it wasn't the type hotel that I prefer to stay in.  Also some of the kids at the pool we ruff housing which I don't like around my small children.

This hotel could be and perhaps was much, much nicer then it is now. Overall to me, this place just feels scummy and grimy.  Not the feeling you want to have...
The staff at the hotel however is top-notch and VERY timely in their handling of all requests we had.
The rooms are old and tired with alot of damage and wear-and-tear on everything. Our Bayside room offered a decent view of the bay but really more of the highway and parking lot. If you have kids, this hotel offers PLENTY to do and keep them occupied. If you don't have kids...perhaps look for another place to stay.
The outside beach and bar area is fantastic and it would be nice if the insides of the hotel were as polished and maintained.
This hotel looks and feels like a cheap, crappy Motel wrapped in a facade of a "once" great hotel.
We enjoyed the service but will not be making a return visit to this hotel. "C"

I'm in Ocean City to attend the wedding of my wife's best friend. She and her husband-to-be chose the Carousel for the wedding party, to accommodate the widest range of expectations and pocketbooks.

We originally booked oceanfront rooms, and then downgraded to ocean view. I'm glad we did, as the price difference was significant, and we have plenty of view and surf sounds from our room.

Considering the pricing, our room and bathroom are greatly in need of renovation. Old furniture and linens, worn and rusty fixtures, popcorn ceiling, all are characteristics of our room and bathroom. They look like a $39 motel, not a $100+ seaside resort.

On the plus side, the water pressure in the tub/shower is very good, and the housekeeping service is quick and thorough. WiFi is free, and parking is convenient.

If you're seeking a family oriented place on the beach/Maryland shore, and you intend to spend most of your time out of your room, e.g., on the beach, the Carousel's pricing may not deter you, or, to put it another way, the state of the rooms may not bother you.

I will update this review if I enjoy a revelation in the next few days, but, for now, the Carousel rates just two stars.

Most of what you read in other reviews is true, both the good and the bad.

    Some other thoughts:
The pools are monitored to make sure you have a room key, but they don't have a lifeguard.  Where is the priority?

There are lots of child  friendly amenities, so if you don't have kids, and/or you don't like kids, this is not the place for you.

Things are fairly clean (average).  The amount of amenities would be a five star, but the customer service is a two.

The view from the beach front rooms is amazing, but noisy.  Consider which you want when you cost which room to book.

I have been going to this hotel may years now however this time I did not have a very good experience .... My condo was not what I wanted, called several times to the front desk as well as the condo managment .. No good respond ... there were triple times charges that the real price of the room I wanted....
Th condo itself had different issues such as the bathroom was out of order, the blow dryer was not working properly, and etc ... No house keeping at all .... I left the trash outside hoping someone would finally come by to pick it up ,... but after two days no luck .... blankets were not clean at all. the iron table was broken .all the dishes in my condo were old and smell so bad/nasty . I had to call many times to request different things...
No food was also served at the beach bar they had ....last but not least, the price of the hotel rooms and condos are a lot higher than the other hotels ...

Anyway , I won't go there any more and hopefully some other places would be a little nicer and cleaner ....

It's been 20 some years and I keep going back.

I'm sure there are fancier places in OC but I'm not one for change.

The rooms are clean and have plenty of towels, toiletries an iron and hair dryer.

The staff are so friendly and the outdoor bar and grill has great inexpensive food.

Each night they offer a different dinner special like BBQ night, lobster night, all you can eat crab legs  and Mexican food night at very reasonable prices.

2 free chairs rental and a free family photo voucher. Free movies on the beach.

Love the indoor ice skating rink.

The gift shop offers souvineers and swim suits and all kinds of cute things.

Big parking lot out front and a huge outdoor parking garage.

Make sure you take at least two forms of ID because one day they say most drivers licenses are fake and the next day they say most passports are fake so make sure if you want to drink at the bar and grill outside you have a couple of forms of ID.

There's a grocery store across the street.

Carousel offers condo rentals weekly and bi-weekly.

Many options for regular rooms from ocean view to bar patio rooms.

Indoor and outdoor pools and a kiddie pool.

The large fry will feed about 10 people.

It's not fancy but its clean, reasonably priced , friendly and has great patio food and a snack bar inside with bagels and pretzels and donuts etc.

It's the kind of hotel that all ages enjoy.

Location was great and the view from our room spectacular. So nice to sleep with the sounds of the surf crashing.
The downside was the cheerleading convention and hoards and masses of obnoxious kids and their equally obnoxious parents.
The rooms are typical of an older hotel. Towels are from bargain basement but no bedbugs is a plus.
If I go back "in-season" will stay somewhere else because I believe this is overpriced but if you have kids it's great.

I loved the location: right out the back doors is the beach. That is really what you're paying for, and they deliver. A beautifically landscaped pool and bar area, several winding paths, anfd then the beach. It's weird, we stayed two years ago at the Hilton on the southern end of Ocean City, and while the hotel was undeniably luxe, I didn't find that a lot was done to the outside. This beach setting was much more charming. The bar serves actaully pretty decent food. There are specials on the drinks at happy hour, and it's really lively but not obnoxiuosly loud,

As for the room itself, we had a room on the fifth floor facing  sort of south but because it was a corner, we had a view of the ocean from our balcony. The room was karge, and we had two queen beds. The TV was good sized and the room seemed pretty clean. We did ask if it was a recently renovated room as one of the reviews suggested we do. The girl at checkout kind of hemmed and hawed when we asked her if it was renovated. It wasn't. There is some upkeep that needs to be done. The water faucet of the sink in the bathroom would not stop dripping; we had to be careful to really twist it and even then it never really shut off. There are many towels but most are of the hand variety so if you're a person like me, ask for extra towels.

The hotel is chock full of fun stuff for kids, an ice skating rink and some ice shows at night, movies on the beach, a kiddie pool, and probably some other things I didn't take in because my daughter is seventeen and no longer cares about anything other than clothes and getting a good tan.

Suggestions to make the stays even nicer:

A pitcher of ice water in reception would really be nice. The Hilton had lemons and limes floating in their iced water. Maybe you don't have to go all out, but it would be nice.

All in all, we had a great stay and I'm happy we chose Carousel.
