5 stars for Claudia at the front desk, 2 stars for the pool and -8 stars for the breakfast. We stay at the Express hotels for the breakfast. They were out of so much food when we went it was terrible. NO milk, no juice, no cereal. Why can't they plan for this. I have never experienced such horrible preparation at a HI Express. I would have expected someone to run out to a grocery store and get the needed supplies. Also, the Sunday breakfast ends at 9 a.m. , 90 minutes too early in my book.

Asked to be on east side they put me on the west, the window had tape on it, most likely due to airplanes, but the breeze from the window was distrubing.  We were on the 6th floor and you could here people outside laughing and talking.  Constant water noise coming from the toliet.  5 young men were checking in same time as I but because no one was 21 they wouldn't  give them a room.  The temps have been in the negatives in mn and they can't get a room.  Everything just seemed run down.  And I was not smarter in the morning.  They lady that takes care of the breakfast was very kind and helpful.  Did not catch her name but reminded me a a sweet grandma.  She was african american if you can give her praise.

Alright, well, I forgot to look the my good ol' trusty Yelp before booking a room. We had been driving all day on a road trip to the Mall of America and to see family. I always like Holiday Inn Hotels and we've stayed at many. So naturally that is what I looked for while my husband was driving so that we could solidify a destination.

When I called I spoke with Debby. Debby was helpful in getting us closer to a rate that I had seen online even though we didn't have any discount requirement. We settled on a price of $104 and she took all my information over the phone. When she asked me for a credit card I told her of give it to her when we arrived. We were only an hour away. My purse was in the trunk. She told me she couldn't hold a room for me without it and that after all that we would just have to take a chance that a room was available when we got there. Ok...

We pulled in I think around 7pm. It was when my husband was inside getting a room that I looked on Yelp and saw 1 star :(. There are only a couple of reviews so I thought maybe we'll luck out and we decided to stay.

Our original room was on the sixth floor. I say original because we were moved shortly after getting up there. We'd been in the car all day so once we were in our room my husband decided to jump right in the shower so that he could get is some food. When he got out of the shower he asked if I had used any q-tips and pointed to them on the bathroom floor. After noticing those we spotted some black curly hairs (sorry) on the floor. That was all it took. He immediately dialed the desk and asked for a manager to come up.

Makayla (sp), the manager came up to the room and we showed her our concerns. She apologized sincerely and after taking pictures of the room escorted us to a different one down the hall. We stayed because she comped our room. It was apparent that there are some staff issues here.

After in our new room all was fine. We ate and we went to bed. At 11:30pm we heard a knock on our door. We had our two year old daughter with us who was sleeping, as were we. My husband went to the door to receive an envelope from an employee with a puzzled look on his face. He opened it-a note on Holiday Inn stationary, hand written on an angle by the manager apologizing again and telling us to please let her know if there was anything we needed. Well...Probably for you to not have an employee wake us up at 11:30 just to hand us a note....slide it under the door. Or just leave it be since you already said everything that was on the paper? Strange.

In the morning we enjoyed the continental breakfast. They had quite a variety to offer and it was a great way to start our long day.

Overall I would probably try to book a room somewhere else in the future. I think they have some kinks to work out here but it's not the worst I've seen. I definitely think that someone could luck out and have a trouble free and normal stay at this place but next time I don't think I'll take the chance, especially with all the other hotels right on the same road.
