History

Established in 1957.

Originally called the Gopher Motel, this building has been been serving visitors to the University of Minnesota for more than 50 years. The hotel was closed in 2000 for an ownership change and major renovations, reopened in 2008 and was sold again in 2013 to it's current owners, who have also spent significant resources on updating and upgrading this hotel to become a safe, modern, and comfortable hotel.

Hubby and I stayed here and LOVED our room! Convenient to downtown, in a safe place by campus, all in all a GREAT deal!

Excellent value, good location. Staff very friendly and helpful. We loved the kitchenette. Room, kitchenette, and bathroom all very clean. The window opened - so nice to get fresh air in a hotel room. We both enjoyed the coffee machine: him for the freshly-gound beans & me for the clean- tasting hot water.  Neighborhood felt safe.

I was in town for a business conference and stayed here for a few days. It was exactly what I was looking for. Clean rooms, friendly and helpful service, scenic 30 minute walk to the conference venue downtown (across the beautiful Stone Arch Bridge), and reasonable rates. I'd stay here again.

Don't be mislead by the pretty pictures or positive reviews (surely it must be the owners). This place is an ABSOLUTE DUMP, the worst piece of work I have ever seen in my 20+ years traveling & staying at hotels all over the world.

Just go to the Courtyard Marriot, not two miles north, same rate--night and day.

I lucked into the last room available for my stay here on a business trip, and have been as impressed as it is reasonable to be with the hotel. The room is comfortable and well-appointed, housekeeping is excellent, the facilities are pleasant and convenient. There's a fully functional kitchen in my room, which is amazing to have. The only thing I suggest is that the coffee machine in the lobby is a bit bland and the room coffee packets are awful, but that's such a tiny, tiny thing.

It's 15 minutes walk from Lund's for groceries, less than 10 from Dinkytown for dining out and drinks. Basically the perfect place to stay if you have business near the university.
