    My husband and I typically like to stay at Crowne Plaza hotels if there isn't an Intercontinental Hotel in the area. Last night we stayed at the Crowne Plaza in Clayton because we've done both the Downtown and Lambert Airport locations - we wanted to try something different. First off, I think the hotel picture is misleading. We were led to believe this was going to be a pretty nice hotel. Not so much the case. The hotel staff is SUPER NICE. We are Priority Club Platinum Ambassadors and they automatically upgraded us to a suite on the 8th floor. However, this room proved to be a disappointment. The room was very small, smelled bad, and had a creepy heart shaped jacuzzi with mirrors everywhere. Seriously, all that was missing was shag carpeting, a stripper pole, and a strobe light. When we weren't happy with the room, the staff was very accommodating and even let us look at several different rooms and choose the one we wanted. We chose to stay in a 2 room suite on the second floor because it was the best of all our options. This room was nicer and in an updated tower of the hotel (our first was not) but it still smelled funny. We opened our mini friggie and found someones half drank bottle of Grey Goose so the fridge hadn't been checked apparently. Our bathroom had two showers (one tub/shower and one walk in shower) and the hot water didn't work in the walk-in shower so we had to use the tub/shower. We stayed at the hotel with another couple and their room next door to ours was super nice with an electric fireplace. Only two rooms in the hotel have these - room 800 and room 2014. The beds were very comfortable but the curtains on the windows were sheers and had no heavier curtain to pull shut so light shined in the room all night long. When we stood on the balcony of 2014, we could easily see into our hotel room due to the sheer curtains. Not good at night if you don't know the people next door! The hallways and lobby of the hotel are warm, however, the lobby is very pretty. The floor is marble and they have beautiful chandeliers. Hotel valet was $19 and self-park was $10 for a day - which they comped us for since we were Platinum Ambassadors. There are several meters outside the hotel which are free on weekends as well. I will say the area of this hotel was nice as Clayton is and the hotel is pet friendly. Lastly, we used rewards night points for our stay but was still charged $28+ at checkout due to taxes that the City of Clayton requires the hotel to charge guests (supposedly...) I've never paid a dime upon checkout at any other hotel when using reward nights. I guess in retrospect this hotel isn't HORRIBLE, but I won't be staying there again anytime soon.

    Stayed a night before visiting Wash U. Service is fine and I got a good night's sleep, but the whole hotel is pretty darn outdated. Doesn't feel like a Crowne Plaza at all.

    If yelp would let me, I'd give the Crowne Plaza-Clayton 4.5 stars.  It's clearly a refurbished older hotel, but the rooms are nice and large (especially the bathrooms).  It has a pool that's far enough away from most of the rooms, so that the whole place doesn't smell like chlorine.  The gym is also pretty good-- not large, but only a few people were using it.  

    One nice thing is that, Crowne Plaza is all about getting a good night's sleep--the bed was luxurious and they even provide a sleep cd, earplugs, and a bottle of aromatherapy linen spray!

    All together, I think it's a good place for both business travelers and families.

    Stayed here over Memorial Day Weekend and was pleasantly surprised for the very economical price. We especially liked the free parking! We did get a room in the older section of the hotel but the beds were great, the pillows were soft and we didn't have any complaints! One weird thing, no courtesy hair dryer in the room and we had to ask for a refrigerator as the only one in our room was a room snack bar one that they don't allow you to keep your own personal items in that fridge. There were a couple of weddings and receptions going on but we didn't hear a thing from those groups. It is conveniently located and we were able to get around the city easily. The Galleria Mall is incredibly close by as well as Delmar Ave and Forrest Park (all of which we took advantage of). Overall, definitely worth the money for the price!

    Maybe the hotel itself as a whole is nice but my daughter and her friends stayed there recently, put down their credit card to secure the room, paid cash when they checked out and the front desk person conveniently forgot to credit their account. Now the hotel is not crediting her account. I gave the girls the cash for the room so now I have to pay double! I think this is horrible. I would never stay there again!!!

    First of all the concierge here could not be nicer. From the main lobby this hotel is quite pleasing to the eye, there is a large chandelier hanging the high ceiling, the floors are an elegant cream colored marble etc. Based on the first impression of this hotel one would expect their room to be just as nice. However, my room was stuffy, dated and really just not nice to look at. If I were visiting St. Louis and had booked this room I would have been really disappointed based on room quality and the cost of it per night. Apparently this hotel is due to have some major upgrades in the near future so that is good.  The customer service makes this a 5 star hotel but the rooms are an eye sore and deserve 2 stars. This is a pet friendly hotel also which gives it plus points.

    We showed up late in the evening to check in and even past 10 pm in the evening the staff was still upbeat and SUPER nice. I think the front desk guy's name was "Rex" and he was just awesome, very personable and a great sense of humor! The hotel was gorgeous and the room was very nice too. The view definitely could have been better (either a jail or a parking garage were our options) but then again, a business can't choose who buys the lot next to them. Everything was clean and they even had a little comfort package to help you get to sleep (eye mask, lavender pillow spray, ear plugs). The only reason it's not 5 stars is the fact that there is no breakfast with the room of any kind that you don't have to pay for. Even just a small continental breakfast with free bitty muffins would have been nice. Any room over $100 and I expect some snackage come morning.

    Not that familiar with Clayton, but the location seemed nice. Numerous restaurants and pubs within walking distance in the down town area. The hotel seemed a little old, but they did upgrade me to a suite. The staff is friendly which is a big plus. They had a free breakfast buffet and the hotel bartender was nice too. If I was back, I wouldn't mind staying here again.

    I stay here a few times a year for business and am always satisfied with the room and the service. I recommend the Executive Tower rooms as they are newer just seem more fresh. As one Yelper said here the balance of the hotel is an older refurbished hotel and the rooms definitely show it. I stayed here just a couple weeks ago and it was obvious that they are continuing upgrades which I have noticed over the past few years. All of which are positive.

    The Clayton area where this hotel is located is tops for foodies. You will never be without choices for a meal. Some of the best restaurants in the city are within walking distance of this hotel.

    My only negative comment is that the fitness equipment needs an upgrade. I know this is not a money maker spot for the hotel however many of us need a good workout room.

    Fantastic hotel.  They take great care of the guests, especially if you are a Priority Club Member.  The times I have stayed there the give you coupons for a free drink at the restaurant, 10% off the restaurant, and a free in room movie.

    The beds are some of the most comfortable I have ever slept in.  The bathroom has a seperate shower from the bath tub.

    The actually have a full gym with dumb bells and cable machines.

    Why wasn't there air conditioning throughout the building? The stuffy hallways, gym facilities, and dining lounge caused rivulets of moisture to soak through layers of tulle and satin, rendering our wedding garments an unkempt mess. The noxious odors wafting from the dark panels and ancient carpets of the original hotel compelled us to sprint through the labyrinthine corridors seeking fresher air, further saturating our clothes and sensibilities. Thankfully the beds and pillows were wonderfully cushioned (better to ease the headaches resulting from countless glasses of champagne) and the showers were generously designed, though they lacked sufficient water pressure.

    First off, I have to say that the customer service in this hotel is bar none the BEST I have ever seen. Concierge, Valets, Desk Clerks, Housekeeping....lovely. They really did want to make sure my stay was great.

    I was supposed to get there Thursday night, but my plane was cancelled. So I called to let them know I would be arriving Friday and I wanted to make sure I wasn't charged for Thursday. Not only were they so friendly, but they changed my reserves to Friday morning and allowed me early check in.

    The downside to this experience was the actual hotel rooms. The bed are their signature heavenly beds, which I won't lie, are amazing. However, the walls are VERY thin and the A/C won't go below 70. For TX people, this is NOT OK. We are constantly hot. Especially after a night of drinking, your room needs to be about 40 degrees. We constantly heard "sounds of love" through the walls at all hours (rock on). The toilet in the bathroom was like industrial strength, one you'd see at an airport. The shower was NOT a garden tub, as the hotel amenities said it would be. The room has the nicest flat screen LCD TV that I've seen in a long time. However, they hooked it up using a regular cable. So the picture was terrible. Why spend all that money on a nice TV and hook it up with a cheap cable? The thought is beyond me. We couldn't find the key to the mini bar anywhere. The hotel lost money there. Not only that, but I can tell this hotel has been here a while. The floor we were on had a large ballroom...which hosted a wedding Saturday night. A Ballroom on a floor where people are staying? What? Also, the elevators were so slow and smelled terrible. Oh, they also allow pets in here. So you can bring your puppies. At first the woman at the front desk said that they don't have a walking service, but then one of the bellman said he would walk my friends dog. For $10. Cool.

    The sports bar in the hotel, is apparently the best in the city of Clayton. Lots of TVs, good cheap food...etc. Good times.

    I would come back here. I think. I would just ask to stay on another floor. It's also in a great location and everything in Clayton is within walking distance. So great.

    The Good:
    1) Great location. Located close to Forest Park, Washington University, and Delmar St.
    2) Affordable pricing.
    3) Old building, yet updated facility.

    The Bad:
    1) NO Air Conditioning! Let me say it another way- you have no control over the temperature. I am typically cold natured, but I was sweating at points in the room.
    2) No fan. Only noisy construction in the morning. I need sound to sleep soundly.
    3) On our 3rd day, I asked that the sheets be changed, which they did. Yet, they then failed to touch our bathroom besides changing out the towels. I can live without a streak free bathroom- but should I have to when I am paying? I think not.

    This hotel is the absolute worse in Clayton. The nightshift manager had me kicked out of hotel for no reason. Wrongfully accused and the cops show up at 1 am to say I have to leave. Now mind you it was my birthday to make his entire experience worse. I will never stay at the crown plaza or any affiliates. They are a racist driven property and caused displacement based on Rae and assumption. Without any proof or reason had me leave in middle of night. Again crown plaza and any priority club reawards properties have lost a customer for life.. The absolute most terrible experience! Fuck crown plaza

    Perfectly fine hotel. I was a nervous based on the mixed reviews!
    -Polite and competent staff
    -Fast check-in
    -Free shuttle service to/from the airport
    -Good sized room, clean and what we requested (king)
    -The A/C was fine everywhere
    -The grill/bar was "okay". Breakfast was fine, for a hotel and the bar staff was kind enough to stay open a tad late for us after the wedding upstairs
    -We were there for a wedding which was held in the ballroom. The food was solid (for a wedding) and the staff was hilarious
    -The elevators are a tad confusing. We had people all over the hotel (as it was a family wedding) and there was constant confusion as to what elevator one had to take to get to their room and if they were on a floor we could get to as "Non Executives". Several times, we ran had to run errands only to borrow other family's room keys to ensure we could get back to floor 5 or 6.

    -Maybe not hotel specific, but have you ever been to a wedding where the waitstaff starts out dinner service with a choreographed dance number to "Be Our Guest" from Beauty and the Beast? Me neither While nothing short of downright odd, it was hilarious and the staff was all good natured.

    Overall, for $100 a night, walking distance to things in Clayon etc, I'd stay there again.

    I recently stayed here for a family member's wedding.  The hotel exterior and lobby are somewhat dated but the rooms are reasonably modern.  There is free wifi but it is slow with spotty ability to connect.  Loud hallways made for early wake ups.  On day 2 of our 4 night stay a bad odor developed in our room and persisted after being cleaned by the maid service.  This wasn't acceptable given the cost of the room ($130 a night) and my wife and I elected to stay at the Hyatt at the Arch for the remainder of the trip (cheaper and cleaner).  Not impressed with this hotel.

    Best hotel ever in Saint Louis and Clayton, MO area.

    I was here when the hotel is renovating, yet it still delivers a top notch service.  

    This hotel is great with hardwood floor.  I seems much cleaner than carpet.   Staff here is super nice.

    Had the opportunity to stay at the Crown Plaza during a recent work trip. I loved this place before I even got there...

    Upon landing in St. Louis, I called for a shuttle pick up - when the shuttle got to the front the hotel called to Make sure I found the shuttle that had arrived. Checking in was quick & easy, the person at the desk was efficient. My company had already booked accommodations in advance, and they were able to look up room, breakfast, etc. without any trouble.
    The rooms were clean and spacious, and I really appreciated their little additions that made the stay that much better. They included a little sleeping kit that included and eye mask, ear plugs, and lavender scented sheet spray... Definitely used all three! Bath set was pretty standard.. With the addition for a mini mending kit.
    The other staff at the hotel all extremely helpful with lots of suggestions.

    Last year my boyfriend and I did the New Years Eve party at the Crowne Plaza and it was by far one of the best hotel parties that I have ever been to. The package included all you could drink, a hotel room and dinner as well as brunch the next morning.

    Our room was beautiful and we slept very comfortably. Dinner was delicious, as they served a lobster tail stuffed with crab meat and a filet. We were stuffed before we ever started drinking! The alcohol was top shelf and there were three different ball rooms where three different bands played.

    Overall, it was a wonderful experience.

    We have no complaints!  The only thing I could say negative is that it could use a little updating but other than that...we are very pleased.  The staff is all very nice.  The beds are very comfortable.  We got a great price on hotwire and free buffet breakfast included.  Overall very happy!

    The hotel is indeed outdated, but it is still very nice.  The rooms were clean and more importantly, the service was impeccable.  The gym was well outfitted and it was nice that the rooms included mini-fridges.  The breakfast was also a win.  Fresh-made omelets with a smile couldn't be beat.  The owner also came over to chat with us one morning when we ate and reinforced the great culture of customer service at the hotel.  I would definitely stay here again during a visit to St. Louis. It is walking distance to amazing restaurants and a super wine and cheese shop.

    We decided to check into the Crowne Plaza Clayton for a quick night's sleep between arriving late for a road trip and having to get up early to be at an event we had planned. Sadly, the only thing we needed the hotel for, it didn't really provide.

    First, the pros:
    + The staff was courteous upon check-in, and we received vouchers for a free buffet breakfast in the restaurant.

    + The hotel is very clean

    + The complimentary breakfast we received was actually quite nice, including a made-to-order waffle and omelette station and several hot and cold items (breakfast meats, potatoes, french toast, pancakes, biscuits & gravy, cereal, breads, danishes, yogurt, etc.)

    And the cons:

    - I have never stayed at a louder hotel in my life! Everything in the room seemed to make noise, especially the air conditioner! It was definitely pumping out cold air, so I don't think it was broken, but the noise on it was like a rumbling gas generator - and each time it would kick on, it was enough to wake me up (for comparison, at home, our bedroom is above the garage, and the garage door opening right below me doesn't even get me to roll over at night, so I'm a sound sleeper). We had a nice sized mini-fridge, but again, every time it kicked on it was so loud! I awoke frustrated and exhausted. Add to that the fact that we could hear people coming and going all around us - there is no carpeting, which I'm sure makes it easier to clean, but I think it also makes everything happening outside the room carry and echo more. Between kids running to the pool and our quiet neighbors getting to their room, it was midnight before the appliances alone kept me up. Obviously I can't vouch this problem existed in every room (the loud A/C specifically), but it did for us, and it was terrible.

    - The complimentary shampoos, conditioners, etc., were only half-full. I know I shouldn't expect much out of complimentary, but I was a little surprised to see this. The light in the bathroom was enough to shine through them as they sat in their little dish on the counter, and when I picked them up to hold them to the light I saw I was right. I don't know if they were previously used or they just only fill them halfway. Just seemed odd to me.

    I expected more from this hotel. I've heard great things about Crowne Plaza as a brand, but I've had much better experiences at Holiday Inn Express and Comfort Inn type hotels.

    Despite mixed feelings based on the reviews here, I made a reservation under my Priority Club membership (which is free) and when I got to the hotel, they'd upgraded me from a queen room to a king room at no charge. Check-in was fast and friendly. They asked if we wanted to stay on a lower level or higher level and we chose higher level. I'm glad we did because they put us on the eighth floor, so we didn't have anyone stomping around above us.

    What others have said about the noise level is true. We happened to stay there while it was quiet with the usual type of guests on the floor (couples, families with kids), but unfortunately, while we got a renovated room with digital temperature control (we blasted the A/C!), "hardwood" floors (laminate), and the bed was amazingly comfortable, the walls and door are paper thin. It takes away from the comfort of the experience when you can hear someone urinating in the next room over and you're laying in bed. Space wise, the room was totally fine, but because the room we were in wasn't very deep, the door was only a handful of feet away and so any and all noise was heard on the hall (and that's a two-way street). Also, we were on the eighth floor but we could hear sounds from the street below. The building is old and not well insulated.

    I think they are still renovating certain wings because the second floor hallway near the door that leads out to the parking garage still REEKS of smoke, despite the fact that it's a non-smoking hotel. A great perk for staying here, especially in Clayton, is that the parking garage was free all weekend. We were also given vouchers for the breakfast buffet, though we didn't end up using them because we were headed out to brunch the next morning.

    Check-out was fast and easy, though we were not asked how our stay was. I would have said fine but still.

    I'm giving it four stars because our experience was fine and it's a very convenient place to stay but I will caution those who are sensitive to noise (as I am) to not stay here if you really want it QUIET. However, the bed was insanely comfortable and the bathroom was lovely! All depends on how you weigh out these pros against the cons.

    Large Rooms.  I got the room with the Massive King and it was comfy.  My first hotel from airport July 2, 2013 from Seattle.  Great Buffet.  RUDE SERVICE.  Televisions are too far from bed in older rooms.  I had the room with the balcony.  Didn't need it because it was too hot out.  Their are 2 large pools.  Its a Nice hotel inside.  Needs better service at 2am coming in from Airport.  AN Okay location.  1 minute walk to Joe Bucks Restaurant. Yummy food.  Tiny Bathrooms.

    Have stayed here twice before because the rates are great for Clayton. It's an older hotel but clean with a free hot buffet breakfast. Rooms are a little small but nicely decorated and service was good.

    However, there is no sound insulation between rooms so we've had trouble sleeping through the night both times. The first visit we had a room by the elevator, and doors opening and shutting sounded like rumbling thunder. The second visit we were further away, but noise from the hallway and other rooms still woke us up.

    I think next time we'll try staying somewhere else in search of a quieter environment.

    cons: Single room was small with very small bathroom.  Older building so we could hear everything out in the hallway. If noise is an issue for you, I'd ask for a room in a quiet area (ours was close to elevator).
    pros: Decent sized fridge and a small microwave! Service was excellent! Very nice helpful staff. Room was clean and bed was very comfy.

    Hotel staff was decent, however the restaurant staff was very sub par. Our first night the bar tender appeared to be extremely stressed and overwhelmed and not friendly. The free breakfast was over crowded and it took us nearly 15 minutes before we could get a clean fork. I would have rather paid for breakfast than endure that! The bussers were practically throwing dishes down, clearly not enjoying themselves in the slightest bit. The pool is more of small whirl pool with maybe 10 seats and most of it is shaded, so laying by the pool wasn't even an option. I would never stay here again.

    I lost my jacket in one of the rooms after the chess tournament. I gave them a call the next day and told me they did not see my jacket, but gave me a call a day after and told me they found it. They are very honest, courteous and helpful.

    Had a stay-cation in clayton where they have some cute shops and restaurants. The suite was very reasonably prices but you get what you pay for. The hotel is older. Pool was heated, very chlorinated, older but clean. Good for the kids- there were several playing in the pool. The reason it got a two star is for cleanliness. The fridge had not been emptied and the coffee cup was filled with someone else coffee!! I was not expecting it to have coffee and spilled it on myself- gross!!  There was a boogie wipes empty pack under the couch.

    This place was really a disappointment.  First, there are no deadbolts on the doors...I don't like that. I was traveling with a coworker who ended up in a terrible room immediately off the lobby and where you enter from the parking lot... Very noisy. When we checked in she asked to be moved, they said they were sold out but that if she was unhappy with the room to come back and they'd see what they could do. So she asked them to just see what they could do now, and the guy at the desk says "well we're sold out so we can't do anything." Um, so why the heck did you offer to do something????  I'm in my room getting ready for bed, and can't stop sneezing.  Finally realize all the pillows are down, which I'm allergic to. Call the front desk..."well, I probably can't get you one tonight but I can do it tomorrow." 25 mins later, no pillow. 11 pillows in the room, finally found one foam one mixed in with the rest so I got to spend the next day with bloodshot eyes and sniffles.  And then despite the hardwood floors there was hair everywhere in the room...floor, bed, shower...and mildew all on the shower curtain liner.  Seriously, never going here again. The one by the airport is a million times better. What a disappointment.

    I would recommend this hotel as a stay for a night of partying nearby in the Loop only. There are a lot of pros to this hotel but one MAJOR con.

    - Free breakfast buffet with hot, cooked foods!
    - Indoor heated pool and FREE arcade games!
    - Free self parking
    - Comfy beds

    - Absolutely NO sound proofing anywhere. Seriously, you will wake up in a cold sweat thinking people are in your room shouting at you when in reality, they are in the hallway just talking like normal. I think the walls are constructed of paper mache.

    Thankfully, we had been out on the town and were just exhausted and drunk enough to manage 5 hours of sleep through the hallway noise. But if you have kids or are on a romantic trip or doing anything besides getting drunk, not gonna work. Our room was one of the renovated ones but it obviously didn't include any work on wall insulation. The pool is pretty hard to find and most of the staff is really lazy and will not show you where it is. If you are in a dank twisty stairwell into the basement, you are on the right track.

    BRING EARPLUGS!! And noise cancelling headphones. And your iPod. And a white noise machine.

    My kids and I stayed here for 4 nights 10/21-10/25. We had a pleasant stay without too many complaint.

    The Good: Staff was friendly. The heated Indoor/outdoor pool was excellent especially for swimming in the middle of October. Free arcade room connected to the pool area was great entertainment for the kids. They are old games from the 80's but my kids enjoyed them and it was kind of fun for me to play games that I used to play when I was their age. Free breakfast buffet everyday. The owner of hotel was at the buffet every morning greeting guests which shows he cares about his customers. One morning the fire alarm went off and we had to evacuate out into the cold weather. My daughter had just gotten out of the shower and was wet and cold. One of the ladies from the cleaning staff gave her coat to her to keep warm while we waited. It ended up being a false alarm but it was a nice gesture from the staff member. Hotel restaurant was not bad and was not pricey like most hotels restaurants are.

    Not so good: Walls are thin so you can hear most everything going on in next room. We had a room at the end of the hall so we only had one side to worry about. Honestly it did not wake my kids up when neighbor used blow dryer so it was not that big of an issue. Pancakes at breakfast buffet were hard and not easy to cut. With buffet being free it was not that big of a deal to me.

    I got the room for a great price through Priceline. I would definitely stay here again.

    We stayed two nights. I booked the room through Priceline two months in advance. I read some reviews that said the walls were thin and to request a room in a quiet area. So, I sent an email to the hotel to that effect. We were given a room on the fifth floor in the Executive Tower. The room was huge. Two beds, large bathtub with separate shower, comfortable beds, plenty of room. We noticed some noise, but nothing out of the norm for a hotel. It was perfect. Some friends of ours had a room in the part of the hotel, and their room was rather small.
    You get vouchers for the free breakfast buffet located in the onsite restaurant. The food is delicious for being a buffet. You can also order an omelet and/or waffles made to order.
    We ordered a pizza through room service. Fresh ingredients and good flavor.
    Also, they have shuttle service anywhere within a 3-5 mile area. We were able to go out without having to pay cab fare.
    We encountered many members of the staff throughout our stay and each person was courteous and helpful.
    Overall, this place was amazing and beautiful and we had a great experience there. If we are ever in the area again I will definitely book here.

    Stayed for four nights at the Crowne Plaza Clayton and had a very solid experience. Perks include free wireless and a free, enormous breakfast (omelet station, hot line, cold line). The staff were extremely friendly and the location convenient. Complimentary shuttle to the airport.

    The physical plant is in the midst of a refurb but it's mostly quite nice. Comfortable bed.

    My floor (8) was a little loud with early risers and families. I think they offer quiet floors -- worth asking about. Great value for the money and I would stay here again.

    This hotel is the perfect example of "Don't Judge a Book by Its Cover", but in a negative way.

    When we walked into the hotel, the lobby was beautiful. Nice chandeliers and great customer service. I was surprised that this hotel was actually 3 stars because it look like 4 stars and up.

    Then I walked up to my room and then that's when things got bad.

    Here is my breakdown of my hotel experience.

    - Free self parking
    - Free breakfast buffet
    - Free wifi (even though it didn't work for me)
    - Nice lobby area

    - The floors with the rooms are ancient looking. Ugly carpeting and the hallways smell terrible.
    - The rooms were small and ancient as well.
    - The bathroom was dirty! We found cheez-its on the bathroom floor.
    - To access the parking garage, you have to go through the second floor then walk down the stairs to the first floor lobby and then go through the silver elevators. You can't access it through the second floor.

    I got this hotel through priceline so I'm not super surprised by the appearance. They did a very good job of decorating the lobby because that is where the first impressions come in.

    I would probably stay here again if I needed to be close to the Galleria, but that's about it. There are a lot better hotels around.

    Stayed overnight on our way back to West palm beach, our room was clean and a/c unit worked great! We were able to be walking distance to the metrolink. We enjoyed the stay and loved the breakfast buffet in the morning and the hospitality was great! The owner Pete was in the restaurant going table to table greating the guests! How often do you see that? We took the hotel shuttle to Stl for our flight home and we will definitely stay again!

    Miss C., her friend and I went for an after-wedding brunch Sunday, sponsored by friends of the groom. Signage helped us know where to go as soon as we walked into the lobby of the hotel. That was incredibly helpful.

    The room was spectacular. The food was great. Fresh fruit (grapes, strawberries, pineapple, cantaloupe, maybe some honeydew), wonderful scrambled eggs that were still moist and topped with parsley and red (roasted red peppers?) so they didn't look so yellow.

    Bacon perfectly cooked ultra-crispy yum. Sausage links I didn't try. Waffles I didn't try. Many, many muffins and croissants and Danish I didn't try -- they were all beautiful. Bagels, cream cheese in many varieties.

    Grapefruit juice. BINGO!! Orange juice, cranberry juice.

    What was so spectacular -- besides the food I got ('cause I got the food in the buffet that I wanted) -- was the service.

    Making sure we had coffee and juice at the table, clearing plates, bringing a glass of ice. Filling waters. Checking all the time to ensure we were getting what we wanted and needed. Incredibly polite. Coffee service was important, 'cause I believe we emptied the carafe at the table pretty quickly.

    And it was great to talk with more of the wedding guests after such a spectacular event Saturday.

    My dad and I took a trip to St. Louis to watch the Cardinals and I went through Priceline to get a room.  I was very pleased to find out our hotel was the Crowne Plaza.  Upon check in the attendant was very pleasant and helpful.  The room was small but very clean.  All of the staff was very nice to deal with. The free breakfast was as good as free breakfasts gets.  On the second morning Pete Zes, the owner, stopped by our table to make sure we were having a good stay.  He was very sincere and very interesting to talk to.  He made a great impression and along with our experience I would definitely recommend staying here.

    Came to St. Louis for a wedding and they had booked a block of rooms at this hotel.

    - Free shuttle to and from airport
    - Free breakfast buffet (omelet chef, anyone?)
    - Free wifi
    - Nice lobby area
    - Dry sauna
    - Arcade room with free games (although at time of review, Mortal Kombat was broken)
    - Walking distance from several good bars
    - Comfortable bed

    - Far away from downtown St. Louis
    - Hard to find your way around their multiple towers
    - Pool area is in the bowels of the hotel and the hallway to the pool is either under construction or is the set of a horror movie

    Really, the pros outweigh the cons.

    Your mileage may vary couldn't be more true than for the Crowne Plaza. I'd stayed here numerous times over the past year and had given up on the place due to small, outdated rooms. Fortunately, the competition in the area has major maintenance/upkeep issues, so I gave the Crowne another try. This go around was the first time that I've stay in the newer/upgraded section of the hotel (over at least 8 previous stays)...I must say that this part of the hotel is night and day difference. For the area, this is a 4+ as it's much nicer (wood floors, larger rooms, updated, etc.)...However, if you get the smaller outdated rooms, you're in the 2 range.

    Location and price are unbeatable.

    The hotel is in a great location. Downtown Clayton is packed with restaurants an things to do. Also, it's located right by the train, which takes you straight to wash u, Busch stadium, or many other attractions.  

    The rooms are clean, but small.  Nothing to complain about. The maid service didn't come one day, but no big deal...

    Bonus: the free breakfast is very good but on weekends is a complete zoo. Get there early!!! Great coffee.

    I get off my flight, call the hotel, and they send a free shuttle to pick me up from the airport. The driver was nice, but the front desk lady was even nicer. Superb staff here, even got free bottles of water from the front desk upon checking in. After I checked out, the concierge took my luggage for safekeeping as I visited Washington University. He was extremely nice and helpful and walked outside to show me where the bus stop was.

    The room is comfy with a fridge and a microwave. Plus the free breakfast is good! The entire atmosphere here is very nice and I'm very pleased with my experience here. Would definitely recommend it!

    This Crowne Plaza was the fanciest one I've been to.  The lobby was beautiful and our room had hardwood floors.  I slept very well here.  The desk was very helpful also.  The entire hotel was updated, clean and friendly staff.  I'd stay here again in a heartbeat and also recommend it to anyone going to St. Louis.

    Ok, I just HAD to write a review about my experience here! First of all, free shuttle to and from the airport? Chyea! Gettin off on the right foot already crowney p! Second, free WiFi with easy login worked flawlessly. This may seem like a weird thing to notice, but I travel a lot for work and this is crucial! Thirdly, a story for you...

    After I was done with a late work call I wanted to grab some dinner. It was about 10ish, so what do I do? Yelp it of course, to eateries in the area with kitchens open late and decent food. After settling on a tapas place, I head down to the lobby and ask the concierge if it's safe to walk in the neighborhood at this time because I'm not familiar with the area. He asks where I'm going, and then what happens next? He actually gets up and personally walks me the 5/6 blocks to the restaurant. Then we get there and he actually knows the owner too - hands me off and tells him I'm a guest at the hotel so he should take good care of me. Are you kidding me? If that ain't some southern hospitality for ya, I don't know what is. Concierge of the month award anyone? Good service like that always overshadows the little things, like an outdated room or less than impressive breakfast. I'll be back just for the great staff.

    My meeting at the Ritz: but rooms were sold out so I saw this was close and booked it.  First off, the neighborhood is safe and quiet but rather dull, fortunately you are between 2 stops on the Metrolink to hightail it out of there for something more stimulating.  The hotel lobby and entrance is fine enough, a bit old fashioned but well polished and clean, appears to be a common place for weddings and parties.  
    Once you get beyond this however there are a variety of sights and smells that betray a less well-kept establishment.  Strange dentist-office like fumes waft in the halls.  The doors appear poorly painted from the outside.  The pool area is difficult to figure out how to get in and the key card machine looks like it is falling off.  The sauna did not get very hot at all.  There were people yelling intermittently out the window all night, a deep throbbing mechanical sound from underneath, and cooing pigeons that sounded like they lived inside the wall. The interior of the room itself was standard and the bed was nice, the external elements around the rooms were just discouraging.   There is an attached restaurant where you can get complementary breakfast buffet food, which was standard and nothing extravagant.

    I stayed here recently while on a business trip. I was a little nervous when the trip was booked because I read the reviews and there were a lot of complaints about noise. Being a light sleeper as it is this made me sad. But I'm a problem solver and so went to the store and purchased some ear plugs for my trip. No noise issues for me. I slept straight through the night each night.
    I could tell that the room I was in had been remodeled but it was nice. The room has hardwood floors which I thought was pretty cool. You don't normally see that in hotel rooms.
    The lobby is grand looking with a huge staircase heading up to the second floor. And for a hotel their gym was pretty decent and open 24 hours (yay me).
    You do have to pay for parking which is a bummer. In the past I have only encountered this in hotels in much larger cities like Chicago, Dallas or SF. It wasn't crazy expensive, something like 8 bucks a day but still a bummer.
    I had breakfast included with my reservation. I generally skip the hotel provided breakfast because they are buffet of cheap pastries but these guys go all out. The cheap pastries are still present but there is a hot breakfast buffet and omelet station. The staff working in the restaurant were also super nice. The owner even stopped by table the last morning of my stay to ask how I liked the hotel and if I was enjoying my stay. Nice touch.
    When I'm in St. Louis for business again, I'll ask to be booked here.

    Your experience here will vastly differ depending on who check you in at the front desk. One person from our group got superstar treatment from the receptionist, she was able to check in at 9 am (normal check in is 4 pm), upgraded room (make sure you sign up for a free membership there and you could get a free upgrade too!), free bottled water and maps to local restaurants.

    A different person checked us in, we couldnt check in until 4 pm, no water, maps or anything else. She wasn't unpleasant, just not as thorough or as friendly.

    The room is nice, clean and comfortable. The hotel itself is a bit older and it shows on the weathered carpet and faded decorations. Great WiFi connection.

    Huge breakfast selection with tableside service for drinks. The owner, a nice senior gentleman told me about the omelet and waffle station. Walking distance to a few eateries, 15 min walk to the Galleria Mall. Safe neighborhood.

    I'll preface this review by saying all other experiences with Crowne hotels have been pleasant. However, this particular hotel and stay was anything but.

    Negatives: hotel is old, room was not clean and in a general state of disrepair. We found LOTS of hair on our shower walls, nasty stains on the bedding, and things just falling apart everywhere. What's worse? The management decided to have some contracting work done this morning. Soooo...at around 7:00 am I was roused to the sound of drills and hammers throughout my hallway. I'm encouraged that they are fixing things but need to find a better day/time to do it. Parking was not free and cost $6 for our stay.

    Positives: location is great...roughly halfway between the airport and city center. There is plenty to do and see within a 20 minute driving radius. The included breakfast is good and the fitness center is adequate if that's your thing. Pool looks nice but we didn't use it. Finally, while at breakfast, the owner was there walking around and talking with guests. He didn't specifically ask about our stay, and we didn't offer any suggestions, but it was a nice gesture.

    Worst.  Service.  Ever.  I've stayed here twice before for two extended stays with work (a federal agency) and had a good experience, so I thought it would be a safe bet for a one night stay as a private citizen.  Oh how very wrong I was.  I would've rather stayed at a no tell motel on the side of the interstate in the middle of nowhere (and probably would've been treated better). Should we ever be in St. Louis again and this is the only available hotel, I will sleep in my car first.

    First, we were not recognized as IHG rewards members (platinum level) and we're not offered our choice of a welcome snack bag or welcome points, as is customary in IHG properties.   More importantly, they were rude and completely lacking in common sense when it came to our room.  We booked a king but were placed in a two queen room.  My first call to the front desk resulted in being told that the central reservations indicated that we asked for a two queen room.  After finding my confirmation email, I called back, provided my confirmation number and asked to be placed in the room type that we reserved.   I expected it to be an easy fix, after all I had a confirmation email. WRONG!  I was basically told that I was lying and that no king rooms were available, and I immediately expressed both my frustration and concern about the problem.   The desk clerk then said that he would have to see something in writing before he could do anything.  Really?  He just told me a minute earlier that there were no king rooms available, so why not just fix the problem instead of demanding written proof????   Sooooooo, I walked down to the lobby, handed over my phone and allowed him to see that I was not a liar and had in fact been confirmed for a king room.  With the click of a button, we were placed in a king room (again after being told that none were available).  Absolutely unacceptable!   Add to this the fact that the king room had greasy foot prints on the laminate flooring and the fact that the parking garage was incredibly iffy as far as safety given the random people walking around looking at the cars (had I been traveling alone as a female, there is now way that I would've felt comfortable in it).  

    I even called the IHG customer service number to report my concerns, and a week later I still have not received a courtesy call from management at this property, which further suggests a lack of commitment to customer satisfaction.  We will not be back at this property.  Ever.

    I stayed here for a week. The breakfast is hands-down the best I've had. There is a made to order omelet and waffle area as well as a ton of hot dishes (corn beef hash, biscuits and gravy, sausage, etc.), oatmeal, fresh fruit, baked goods, etc. The rooms are also very nice. I was in a double queen (free upgrade) with climate control thermostat (as opposed to off/on), fridge, microwave, and safe. The complaints I have with the room is that the bathroom is so small it feels like you are always hitting the door and there is no fan in the bathroom. Since there is no fan in the bathroom, I can see evidence of mold growth that looks like it was covered up at one point. Lastly, I was really excited about the indoor/outdoor pool and sauna, but the pool was not maintained and you could see stuff floating in it. The outdoor area is also in the corner  lower level of the hotel so it doesnt get a lot of sun. Overall though the rooms were good, breakfast great, and hotel staff very friendly and helpful.

    I booked this hotel as a way to be close to the downtown area, but to save a few bucks. It was a 15 minute drive from the main downtown, which was awesome, and the area it's in is nice, but it did shut down early- hardly anything open at 8pm on a Saturday night!!

    We had a double room in the 'executive tower', with clean and comfy beds, extra pillows already in the closet, and a bathroom that offered a tub and a separate shower!

    The front desk for check in and check out were beyond nice and gave us free bottles of water on arrival.

    The free continental breakfast the next day was awesome! Eggs, two kinds of sausage, two kinds of potatoes, pancakes, french toast, pastries, and a build your own omelette bar. I would've loved to have had one of those omelettes, the looked amazing, but we didn't want to wait. The food was pretty good, overall.

    The reason I give this 4/5 stars was because of the parking. There is valet, and a free garage that's connected, but the entry way into the garage is so narrow and awkward of a turn in, with a steep ramp down beside it, we had trouble seeing due to the logistics while turning in to the garage- a little scary!!

    Also, the walls are thin- we identified at least 3 kids in the room next to us. Very easy to hear into the next room!

    Other than that, super impressive place to stay. I would definitely return.

    I'm putting 5 stars simply because of the customer service. The doorman was a pleasant surprise on greeting, the front desk lady was very helpful and nice. The opener of the hotel even came down to real fast one morning and spoke with me and others and handed out his business card. Great service!

    The hotel itself is by no means a 5 star resort. It's clearly old. But the service far surpasses any need for speedy luxury. I'll definitely stay here again when I'm back in the St. Louis area.

    This review is in regard to the venue services.  We worked with Brenda Hinton here to host our wedding reception.  We were thrilled at the affordability of this place especially in comparison to the price per person at other locations in St. Louis.  There is a minimum of how much you can spend here, however, but after that there is no room fee.  

    Brenda is amazingly helpful and nice.  She met us to tour the lower ballroom where our reception would be held and she was great about answering our questions.  She continued to offer us excellent customer service as we planned our menu, drinks, appetizers, everything.  She also had unending patience with us as we changed our head count several times!  

    At our reception, the service was phenomenal.  Many of my guests complimented the "white glove" service and loved having a seated dinner.  We were very happy with how our food turned out and the room was set up perfectly!  

    We also had many guests who stayed here for the wedding.  The front desk assistants were helpful in handing out our guest bags.  There is also a complimentary breakfast buffet in the morning for overnight guests.

    I highly recommend the Crowne Plaza as a reception venue.  I think the best part is Brenda, she is amazing!

    As someone loyal to the Hilton brand I was initially skeptical of staying at the Crowne Plaza (IHG). The skepticism was undeserved as the Crowne provided a solid 4 star experience for our conference.

    On-site restaurant and bar with happy hour. (Breakfast buffet with made to order omlets made for a hearty breakfast)

    Up to date amenities including: LG flat screens w/ HD, mini fridge and microwave, safe, and desk.

    Variety of restaurants that are walking distance including Starbucks, Subway, Ruth Christ, Morton's Steakhouse, Sushi AI, etc.

    Great white glove service during catered meals

    Great front office customer service (from shuttle pickup to housekeeping)

    Complimentary Arcade

    Heated indoor/outdoor pool


    Property feels a bit dated (Its an older property)

    *Crystal Ballroom AC sounds like car slamming on breaks every time it comes on*

    Overall a successful conference thanks to the staff!

    I booked a room in St. Louis at what I thought was a nice hotel for one night for my family. We got to the hotel and I stated there were 4 of us and had to have two beds. The lady was rude and stated they were booked and I bought a cheap room off price line and I get what I get.

    I told her there were 4 of us and we could not fit in a single bed, she said they would send up a roll away bed.

    We got to the room after getting lost in the parking garage because she had me park in a different building's parking garage.

    The room was tiny, and when they brought up the roll away bed there was not enough room to set it up, so they took it back out and left us hanging with a $140 room that would not work for my family.

    I tried calling priceline, I tried calling the insurance protection, and then tried to get a new room through the front desk.  No one cared or would help.

    We ended up having to buy another room at a different hotel for the evening.
    This was the worst experience I have ever had on vacation and I really don't appreciate that we ended up having to leave the hotel and spend another $200 to stay somewhere else.

    Extraordinary service is hard to come by, but I think we all appreciate it when we find it. It's usually the little things that matter most. The Crowne Plaza certainly met the criteria for outstanding service, and here are the little moments that mattered to me:

    - Free shuttle ride to/from the airport (just call the front desk)
    - Allowing us to enjoy the breakfast buffet while we waited for our rooms to be ready despite not staying at the hotel the night before
    - Getting our room ready for early check in before 1pm
    - The maid introducing herself and telling me to let her know if I need anything

    I would definitely recommend this hotel to a friend, and I will most likely stay here again when I come back to St. Louis.

    Very pleased with this hotel.   There was a large loud wedding tonight but that made it nice and lively with a lot of drinking and bass pumping music that ended before midnight.   Both the indoor and outdoor pools were open late - nice.  One of my pet peeves about hotels is when the pool closes like at 8-9 when we never get home before dinner and like to swim late before bed.    

    For a 50 year old hotels it's been preserved quite well and is in great condition.  Beautiful hardwood floors and carpets, lovely lobby with abundant chandeliers and mirrors everywhere even in the rooms.  Great HD TV and channel line up, fridge and microwave, clean restrooms and bed.   Fast WI-FI (on it now and uploaded dozens of photos to Yelp real fast).

    The shuttles are fast and friendly and will take you where you want to go in downtown Clayton (small) free until 11 pm.   When we called for a pickup our driver was there in less than 5 minutes.   Nice guy that knows the area.

    The AC is pretty loud (you operate it from the wall controls, not the ones on it).   When we asked the front desk how to operate it the lady was obviously tired of answering that question and told us to read the sign on it saying that you have to use the wall controls (there is no sign), but other than that the staff is friendly enough.  

    Only a two block walk to hop onto the metro line and scoot on into downtown STL.
    Free parking garage on weekends, free breakfast and a one block walk from some of the hottest restaurants and night life.  Reasonably priced compared to downtown Saint Louis.  Excellent service easily squeaks out a 4.5 rounded up to 5.
