A 5 star review? I must be crazy right? Well, maybe but certainly not for giving this particular hotel 5 stars. I stayed at this location for one evening and while the building is older and not at all flashy the staff is really what made the stay a 5 star stay. I really have never dealt with such a friendly front desk staff both at check in and check out and to top it off I received a really delicious chocolate chunk cookie. Chocolate, friendly staff and super quiet/private room....just what I love and just what I needed.

Disappointing.  Understaffed front desk, small rooms, no hot water for several hours, sink nearly clogged/slow drain, bathtub faucet wouldn't shut off, heater would cycle on for brief periods, and light rain in the morning killed the TV's satellite signal.  It's definitely below the standard for what I expect in a Holiday Inn.

This was the last stop on a long family road trip.   We did the DSM-KC-STL triangle before heading back to the Chicago area.    It's a Holiday Inn.   It appeared to be updated recently with new linens, wallpaper, but the smell of smoke lingered in some areas of the hotel.  The exterior is an old stucco which was not very appealing and it's not exactly cheap.  What it is - a place to sleep with free wifi close to the Zoo.  The staff is generally friendly and willing to help out with recommendations.

WOW!  A 5 star review for a hotel like the Holiday Inn?!  Yes, it's quite accurate!  And picky Yelper Richie is here to explain why:
-They manager upgraded me to a double occupancy room for free at check-in.
-Since I was staying 12 days (on a business trip), they brought in a microwave and refrigerator.
-The staff was always really friendly and willing to serve you to their best abilities.
-Even though the hotel is a bit older, it is kept up and clean (I found not even one hair on the bathroom floor at the entrance glance!  Hard to find!)
-Gifts would always be left for me when I arrived back at the hotel after a long day of training.  Popcorn, snacks, a Happy Mardi Gras basket with a bunch of goodies and bead necklaces...
-They give you a menu of pillows to choose from (in addition to the 4 mini pillows already on your bed).  I personally loved the Firm Pillow & U-Neck Pillow.
-FREE WI-FI!!!!!! (Hence how I'm writing this review).
-Automated wake-up call system that wakes you up 3 minutes before when you set it.
-The room service is prompt.  I would order my to-go breakfast in the morning and it would be waiting for me at 7:45, along with the check to run out.
-I left my phone charger in my room and they had it there are the desk.  They seem to learn who their clients are which makes it more personalized.
-One of the managers told me that they're trying to become "green".  We'll see what happens but they'll have to get rid of smoking to begin.
    -The best for last...
It was my 1.5 year anniversary with my boyfriend who secretly sent me an Edible Arrangement of chocolate-dipped strawberries.  They left a voicemail in my room and then called again later to let me know that something was in the lobby for me.  The desk worker handed over the gift, wished me a Happy Anniversary and winked.  Gay friendly staff plus.

I was a bit concerned making the reservation at first due to:
    -Only an outdoor pool
-Location far from MetroLink and only close to The Hill Italian neighborhood
-There are smoking rooms still.  BE SURE to request the 3rd floor if you're allergic to smoke or are just not a smoker because the other floors are either every other room or the far end of the hall is smoking.
    -Simply it's a Holiday Inn

Everything worked out after all and it was a pleasant stay!

    * Location poor - not in Clayton or near Forest Park as I expected
    * Elevator doors made scary rubber band sound when opening/shutting.  Management posted permanent sign to indicate safety inspection was on file.
    * Toilet not fully attached to the wall
    * Toilet seat not fully attached to the toilet
    * Shower had two temps:  scalding or freezing
    * Room had two temps:  sweaty or freezing

What broke the camel's back?  Coming home after ten pm to an unmade bed, upon which I had left ONE JACKET, written on 'Stay Thoughtful' notepaper which read:
"Personal Belongings on bed!!!  Couldn't make Bed"

I tried to post a photo of the note on the Holiday Inn Facebook page and they wouldn't let me post the photo, so I came here.

After party at the Holiday Inn. Despite the brand image, this place was actually pretty decent. Big room and clean.

Government rate allowed a $10 kickback for breakfast at on-site restaurant per day, but there were two of us; no continental breakfast even.  Bathroom was sadly out-dated and with no exhaust fan, although beds were comfortable.  Expected better for the price we paid.

If I had paid full price I might feel ripped of, but seeing as I got a deal from Hotwire I'm fine with staying here. Over all I'm not impressed, this place could really use updating.

The room itself was clean and everything worked, but a good example of the lack of updating would be the old-school, non-HD TV.

Booked here because of cheap cost.
Won't book again due to 3 main issues.
    1. First arrived and TV did not work for a day.
    2. They try to save money by having air conditioning that shuts itself off after a time period.
    3. Needs upgrades (ex. elevator claustrophobic, slow, and makes odd noises).

Tolerable for a overnight stay but not as much for an extended business trip.

Stayed in this hole multiple times on visits to St. Louis. Excellent front desk service, nice and clean rooms, and overall a quiet neighborhood. Quick access to highway makes it easy to get where I wanted to go around town. Would gladly recommend this hotel to friends and family that I know need a place to stay while in town.

Great room - great service - didn't use the amenities because it was such a short stay.

I stayed here again and they have been amazing. It was really clean, comfortable beds, and the staff has been great. We booked through a third party for a discounted rate. We needed to extend our stay because of being snowed in and they booked us an extra night and matched the discounted rate. On top of that, they upgraded us to a room with 2 queens instead of 1 (which came standard with our third party booking). The hotel has a lounge and a restaurant, so being snowed in was not terrible. Awesome place. I HIGHLY recommend it.

Convenient location, nice staff but I think the common areas need to be upgraded. It's a good hotel for the price I got from Priceline.

The staff and location were both great. Other than that : mediocre. Nothing special. I've stayed at holiday inns before and was expecting the fountains and the indoor pools and hottubs and spas... This place had a "gym" and an outdoor pool which didn't help me in November. The room was standard, clean. The heat is motion activated so I kept waking up freezing. And there was random little things that were frustrating: I had to swipe my card three times every time for door to open, the side door didn't close you had to pull it with all your might to shut it, the elevator door closed almost beside you were in it. My wifi stopped working and I had to call their customer service department which is a teenager that answers phones with great ideas like "have you tried turning it off and on again?" But the worst part , the walls were paper thin. And there was a crying baby next door. And they were replacing Carpet above me until like 10 pm. I could even hear this person drop soap in the shower and the baby sneeze. I can never usually hear anything from other rooms. Doors opening and slamming shut all night. If you book through Priceline idk how much it is maybe it would be an okay deal if you don't want to sleep but going straight through hotel, WAY over priced.

We stayed for an overnight and while the hotel was clean and had just been updated, we were supposed to have a queen bed and we didn't.  Also there was a dirty towel on the back of the bathroom door and the bottom sheet was inside out which made me a little worried. We were put on the side of the hotel facing the interstate which didn't make much sense seeing as how there were only a few rooms that were booked. Even after we came back after dinner there was only 12 cars in the parking lot. The a/c was SO LOUD that every time it would turn on I'd wake up although it did drown out the interstate noise.

We asked for a double when we reserved the room. When we checked in we were told they did not have any doubles available and the hotel was sold out. We had to settle for a single. They did offer a roll-a-way but that's not the same. The elevators are old, small and slow. The room itself was decent and clean with a comfortable bed. The staff was friendly as well so that helped.

It was a good stay if you're traveling for business.  Not sure if is take my family.

The staff were nice and explained the hotels amenities.  The a/c worked great.

All in all a good place to stay on a business trip.

The hotel smells like wet dog and old cigarettes. My "fresh towels" had blood spatter on them that wasn't mine. Bed frame was broken.  Key card reader never works on the first go. Highway noise in the room. Stay somewhere else...

Front desk was very personable and welcoming, did all he could to welcome us in and be accommodating. The place is decked out for the holidays and looks pretty nice. Has a security guard at night to watch the vehicles, not sure of the neighborhood, but front desk said there should not be any problems.

Room was decent, lower end fixtures and carpet but it was in good shape. Only real complaint was the hair. There was what appeared to be dog hair all over the bed spread and sheets of both beds. They do allow pets for a $25 charge, but apparently they don't use the extra $25 to clean up the bedding.

Stayed here for 5 days, staff was very friendly and housekeeping was very accomdating to us with extra towels and a lot of extra coffee. Really love that the bath products are bath and body works. Bed is comfortable, relatively clean, if you walk around without shoes beware of your feet turning black. Wish there were more outlets. Delicious FREE cookies made daily at the front desk.

Elevator is slow and the carpeting throughout are dated with stains but a lot of seating one the first floor. Gym has 4 cardio machines and weights rack. Pool is nice and fast food in walking distance

As I was scheduled for major surgery at Barnes Jewish Hospital, we needed a place to stay for about a week. Since I didn't want to drop a ton of money on a hotel for what was decidedly not a pleasure trip, we went to Priceline and plugged in $70 and came out with this hotel. I wish we would have splurged for more, as it was certainly an unpleasant trip.

First, the good: Free parking and wifi, which definitely saved us some money. Also, the location is pretty convenient to the 44, which made getting around Saint Louis quite easy. Finally, the shower had awesome water pressure. There, I'm out of good.

Our first issue was with housekeeping. After our first night there, we left the room at a bright and early 830 AM. When we returned at 5PM, the room still hadn't been cleaned! I called down and they said it was because when they came by to clean the sign was up! Was 830 some sort of cutoff? After I insisted that somebody come and clean the room they obliged and we had to sit in the lobby for half an hour while somebody came and fixed the room. It was all quite awkward, but they were friendly enough and I was ready to just get on with our stay. Then this happened.

My father and stepmother were in a different room and were very unhappy with the hotel and I couldn't figure out why, but they were unhappy enough to cut their trip short. Finally we learned they were switching rooms and I got it out of them: their original room was COVERED in mold. I went to see for myself and the entire A/C unit and the wall panel above it was flecked with mold. Lots of mold. This is a serious health concern! The room was rank and uninhabitable, only my poor parents HAD inhabited it for days. This will not stand.

I ask my parents what the hotel has done to accommodate and they confessed that beyond the room switch, they had simply been offered a complimentary breakfast the next morning.I hightailed it to the front desk with the family in tow. A bit more aggressive than my parents, I wanted to make sure the manager understood that housing people in a petri dish is unacceptable.

I laid out to the gentleman how I saw the situation, that breakfast wasn't fair compensation for keeping people in an unhealthy environment and suggested they comp the entire stay. To his credit, he didn't argue and did it right away. That right there is the sole reason for a 2nd star.

Unfortunately for me, this place isn't the worst hotel into which I've ever stepped foot. But because of their cleanliness issues, I cannot in good conscious recommend to anybody a stay at the Holiday Inn Forest Park.

It is a Holiday Inn so I didn't expect the Taj Mahal. Great value. It felt like a boutique hotel. The front end staff were professional and baked chocolate chip cookies for all the guests. They called me in my room to see if I needed anything. Great place to stay.
