Duke Blue Devil Days brought us here on a special rate.  I'm a Marriott regular, but I'm not enthusiastic about this property.  First, it took intervention from the national reservations line to get us the special rate promised by Duke University.  Second, the maintenance and cleanliness were only mediocre.  Two light bulbs were burned out when we arrived, and the same discarded cigarette butts stayed on the balcony our entire stay.  Third, the only breakfast option is a $9 buffet and there are no alternatives within walking distance (not counting the gas station).  And the shuttle -- OMG!  It seems to run whenever the drivers want to, and the front desk staff has no clue where it is or when it will be back.  According to another guest, the driver even managed to get lost on the 1.5mile drive from the hotel to Duke's campus.

Customer service is great. The young man was very helpful and polite. The room was a single king. Clean room, comfortable bed, and pillows. Only complaint is that the sound carries down the hall. You can hear people going in and out of their rooms, but I am over all pleased with this hotel. :)

Stayed two nights on a business trip to Duke.  Room was clean, though interior a bit shabby and curtains had rips in them.  Second night a rowdy wedding party showed up and lots of noise through the walls.  The property isn't that great, but the front desk staff were pleasant, courteous and helpful. They get the stars!  The reception area is comfortable to hang out and watch sports on TV.   Breakfast buffet adequate with hot cooked items and the coffee's good and service prompt.

I'd suggest the Papas Grill across the street from the parking lot for dinner.  Good mediterranean food in a classy establishment.

Standard Courtyard Marriott type rooms. The rooms were recently update and include flatscreen HDTV in every room with free WiFi. Nice and clean with ample parking.

This is my go to hotel for when I visit the Duke University Medical Center (10 minute drive) after the DoubleTree across the street was converted to a Comfort Inn.

They are currently under construction (Jan 2012) and don't have a lobby but they offer a free breakfast buffet to try to make up for it which was horrible. Almost all of the food was inedible. I highly suggest walkig across the street to pickup breakfast at Papas Grille.

WiFi was free but was hit or miss (mostly miss).

Summary: Nice clean, reasonably priced hotel (ask for the Duke rate) within close driving distance of many places. Highly don't recommend staying here dutifully the renovations though.

Great experience! I stayed at this hotel for three nights for a visit to Duke. The hotel seemed new so the room was very clean. The staff was nice and helpful. Great location too - 5min drive to Duke and has a few restaurants within walking distance.  I would totally stay here again!

Terrible customer service. Checked into the hotel for an interview. The hotel asked for my credit card. I told them that the room was pre-paid. They said they wanted my card for incidentals.  They ended up charging me for the entire room. Call hotel manager over 3 weeks ago- he said he would send a copy of the room bill to me and reverse the charges. He never did either.

For the price, very nice hotel, rooms and pleasant staff. Slightly further from the Duke campus than I expected, but still convenient. Cabs are available, but a bit pricey - use Uber when possible. Lastly, the price of food at the cafe in the lobby is a bit extreme (i.e., $9 for an egg sandwich), so I'd recommend bringing your own - there are mini fridges in the rooms - or just go out.

I travel weekly for business. I was hesitate to book a stay with the mixed reviews on here. Glad I did. Hotel looks like an old courtyard from the outside, but inside is new. Rooms are updated (minus a small amount of rust in the shower and a small tear on the curtains). I have a high standard for cleanliness and this pace was clean! Parking is free and close! Asked for soy milk in my latte at the cafe, but they did not stock soy milk. Asked the front desk if they would consider this for guest with dairy allergies and thought it was a great idea. We'll see if it happens when I return in 2 weeks. Over all staff is really accommodating! Will be returning. Courtyards lately have been letting me down but not is one!

The hotel is conveniently located just off the freeway.  There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance.  There's also the cafe in the lobby which is open during breakfast and dinner (not sure about lunch).   The seating area is very nice just like a regular eatery, even with contemporary booths.  I really like how the lobby was renovated.  The little "market" offers refreshments and snacks at all hours.  There's also a computer area, complete with printers.  I love how the Wi-Fi is free.

The suites themselves were quite spacious, including a pull-out desk, 2 full-sized beds, and a decent-sized bathroom.  I wish there were bath mats.  Paul Mitchell toiletries were nice.  The AC is very loud.  If you're a light sleeper, be advised that wearing earplugs is the only way to get uninterrupted sleep.  The building is pretty old.  You can totally tell from the elevator.  Overall, staying here was a good choice...only a few minutes from Duke University and about 20 minutes from UNC.

I am usually a huge Mariott fan. I always request them on business trips. However, this one does not stand up to any other I've visited.

Pros: Clean bed, Friendly staff, Fedex from the desk, affordable laundry on site.

Cons: Tiny gym. Bathroom reeks of cigarettes though the hotel is non smoking. Each shower just gets the smell going again and I have to keep the bathroom door closed to avoid it coming into the rest of the room. Housekeeping enters the room without knocking, actually just walks right in. Horrible dinner menu, equivalent of reheating frozen pre-cooked meals. And to top it all off, I got a very aggressive wrong number call to my room at 10:30pm by a man demanding I tell him who I am. Turns out he got the wrong room number, apparently the desk doesn't screen for these people? It was a work night, this was not welcome.

Your typical Courtyard with some bells and whistles.  Area is off the freeway but you don't hear the noise.  Parking lot is very safe and lit.  Great customer service.  Modern lobby with a restaurant that served plated entrees for breakfast.  Kudos.
