I feel bad giving the Homewood 3 stars, it's a good hotel, just showing a little bit of its age.  The staff is friendly, the continental breakfast is good and the rooms are clean.  The facilities are feeling a little dated and the elevators seems to be a bit dirty.  The location is perfect.  Even though I live nearby, we had to spend a few days out of the house while the floors cured.  The only issue we had was being assigned a smoking room on check-in.  We checked in using our Hilton Honors points and our preferences clearly list non-smoking.  We got into the room and the smell was overwhelming, called the front and they confirmed our suspicions and promptly moved us to a non-smoking suite.  If you can get a good rate, I would definitely stay here again, but I wouldn't pay a premium for it.

Not quite high-end, but just fancy enough to feel like it.  With three kids the suites are great and I always think you save some $$ by taking advantage  of the kitchen.

This HS is in a great location as well.  Service was fine, no hassles at all as it should be.  And yes, free wi-fi!

Good sized rooms, very clean and comfortable.  Breakfast is a plus, as was the evening dinner service.  When traveling with kids, this is a nice option.  The kitchenette was well stocked.  The in-room coffee was drinkable.  Pillows were good and mattress slept well.  We were all pleased, even after three days.

Two-room suite with a door was great for traveling with kids. Kitchen was very handy. Included breakfast (incl. hot and cold foods) and wi-fi were great to have too. Only complaint was that the bathroom was old and crummy so it didn't seem that clean. Would stay again.

My wife and I stayed here one night on a road trip. Immediately upon walking into our suite it felt like coming into a nicely furnished apartment. The furniture was tasteful, not institutional, and in great shape. Everything was very clean and in working order. The layout of the suite allowed for good flow and we didn't feel like we were tripping over each other. The bed was a little on the soft side, but comfortable, and the pillows were soft without being squishy. Other observations: huge closet, though not a huge number of hangers, doors to separate the bedroom from the rest of the suite, two TVs.

The complimentary hot breakfast was pretty good with decent coffee and a wide selection of hot and cold items which satisfied both my wife's preferences and mine.

There were a few notable downsides. First and foremost, there is only one sink/vanity which made it impossible for more than one person to get ready for the day at the same time. Also, the was a little more noise pollution from other suites and the hallway than I would have liked. (When you are getting away from your kids for the weekend you don't want to hear other people's kids crying.) Lastly, there are only a couple of ways to get in the building from the parking lot, so you may have to walk a fair distance from your car to your room.

Stayed in the Homewood Suites this past December - we were there on New Year's Eve for two nights.  The room was a little bit small, but not bad.  The service was excellent.  The staff was very friendly and helpful.
There was no dinner service when we were there because it was New Year's Eve, but the breakfast was great.  Plenty of room in the dining area.
The location was great as we were there for a Duke Basketball game.  Took us only a few minutes to get to the campus.  You are about half way between Duke and North Carolina Universities.
Easy access from the highway, located close to shopping and restaurants.
Can't really say anything bad about this place.  We would certainly stay there again.

I want to first say that I'm not a hotel snob; however I do like a clean, comfortable place to stay when traveling for business.
When I checked in, I was told that they are going to be doing some renovations in the next coupe months (whether that's true or not), so I have to give some benefit of the doubt.
1. Complimentary breakfast - meh.  Eggs had definitely been sitting out a while. Coffee could have been better. I got up to get something, after starting to eat, and someone cleared my table before I could return.
2. Wifi - good.
3. Menu in room - I called to order a pizza from the menu in the room, and they told me they didn't have the specialty pizza in the menu I was referring to.  My question back was then, "how do I know what you have".  Delivery speed was acceptable.  Pizza was mediocre.
4. Cafe to buy water, food, etc. - mostly junk food.  I was looking for a protein bar or something healthy, and was relegated to a Nutri Grain bar that looked to have been sitting there a while.

When I come back to the area, I will likely find another Hilton Hotel affiliate to stay at.

I have stayed in a few hotels in my life, somewhere in the 80-100 range, and this place takes the cake. The customer service was amazing. They have beer on tap during their free dinner service. They serve complimentary breakfast and dinner. The rooms have a small kitchenette fully equipped to be used. They will do your grocery shopping for you while you are out and about during the day. And for the price you pay per night it is amazing.

All in all I would recommend this place to anyone looking to spend a few nights in the Durham area.

Stayed at this hotel most of all last week on business.  My room was clean, comfortable, and quiet.  I did not have breakfast (I appreciate the in-room kitchen) use the business center but I did use the fitness center.  It is probably sufficient for most people...the requisite treadmill and elliptical cardio equipment, assortment of medicine balls, and a yoga ball.  There were some dumbbells but I would have preferred more - again, that's only me.  The facility does say it has an agree, net with a local gym but when I went there, I was told the gym had changed hands and they no longer allow guests without requiring a $15 per day pass. I didn't eat but the evening meals smelled delicious!

The very best part of my stay was Sharon.  She was on the front desk each evening of my visit - actually she checked me in and out!  She ALWAYS greeted me with a smile and gave me perfect directions any time I asked for them.  When I was leaving (at 430 in the morning) and I couldn't find the luggage cart, Sharon checked floors with me.  We didn't find it - another guest must have had it his/her room as if it was just for them vs all the guests :-( but the fact is, she helped me look and then sent me on my way with a blessing.  My stay was fine but nothing really spectacular.  Sharon was exceptional.

They were undergoing renovations and so a little inconvenience was to be expected, but the staff was the most courteous of all the Hilton's that we've stayed at. The room was nice, spacious and clean, living up to the Homewood Suites brand. We visit Chapel Hill regularly and used to stay at another hotel, but this will be our hotel of choice. It's going to be especially nice when the renovations are complete.

A great stay.  Everything you would expect from a Homewood Suites. No complaints whatsoever!
