This is definitely one of the better Red Roof Inns that I have stayed at. Everything was clean, even under the bed, which was good because we had two people, a dog, a cat and a bird all squeezed in to one room, so guess where the cat went? The staff were really friendly and the room had everything we needed. It's super convenient being right off the freeway, and you can even walk around in a neighborhood behind the inn if you need to stretch your legs.

For its price, this is actually a really good deal.  For only $50/night (I get a Big Ten discount), we got the King sized business room which came with a workstation and free wireless internet via T-Mobile for our whole stay.  This is right off the 40 highway and is a little hidden but it's also really close by a Rite-Aid and a couple other food joints.  It's about 10 minutes away from both Duke University and UNC, Chapel Hill.

Service was very friendly and helpful.  A good deal for a decent price - I'd come back and stay here again.

If you're looking for a place to sleep, this place is really not bad at all. I don't go into a Red Roof Inn expecting a whole lot - clean, fresh sheets and towels, no bugs, and I'm happy. This Inn definitely met those qualifications.

Matt's best friend lives in Chapel Hill, so its a good stopping point for us between Atlanta and DC. He had stayed at this particular Red Roof Inn on previous trips because its close to his friend's house, and right off the Interstate. First of all, its not in a shopping center or near a whole lot, so its really quiet. The parking lot is not shared, so we felt totally comfortable parking the moving truck and leaving it there for the day while we were at his friend's house.

The room was really basic, and especially after being spoiled the night before at the Renaissance, the TV was kinda crappy. But since all we needed was a bed to crash in after we hung out with his friends, it was pretty good. The staff was nice and helpful when we needed them. I'm generally a bit of a snob when it comes to hotels, but this was better than I expected.

Stayed here for about two weeks between housing situations.  Definitely worth a look if you're wanting to be close to UNC for a no-frills extended visit.  If you can look past the aesthetics on the outside (older hotel, big ol' trucks parked out front), it's pretty great!

            The good:

It's super cheap!  I mean, cheap enough to feel guilty about it since it's close to Chapel Hill.

It's clean, recently renovated, and was quieter than one would expect (with the AC on, I didn't hear anything other than the window unit).

I didn't use it, but there's coffee in the lobby 24/7.

The folks at the front desk (and housekeeping) are super nice and friendly, and are willing to help out in whatever way they can.

            The not-good:

Housekeeping missed a few days while I was there; some days they'd take the dirty towels and not replace them, or some days they'd not come by at all.  Nothing too bad because the Front Desk is pretty helpful and will fix the problem if you bring it up.

The WiFi is so slow most of the time as to be unusable.  Don't come expecting to do much of anything on the network.  It's pretty much strictly email only.

People tend to hang out and drink on the 3rd floor, even if they aren't staying on that floor.  To be fair; they did so quietly the time I was there.

This looks like an older hotel but it's clean and up to date. My room had a microwave, refrigerator, and nice LCD TV. A lot cheaper than other hotels in the area.

Red Roof Inn's are pet friendly and let your pets stay for free.

            Pros: Cheap

Cons: Our toddler found a razor blade in our newly painted room. Our room still smelled like paint.

Very clean place to get off of your feet. The pictures on their website are not misleading at all, compared to the actual room itself! Highly recommended for a decently priced clean place to stay.

I've stayed here twice when visiting family in the area, once because a cheap relative booked it for all of us, and the 2nd time through the "express deals" option on Priceline (and both times because it allows dogs).

The first time was pretty bad. The room smelled like stale cigarette smoke covered up with Lysol, it felt dirty and there were sketchy looking people/scenarios happening all around the motel. I was actually so grossed out that I stayed with my family who lives in the area and left my room empty.

The 2nd time when I tried for a 2-star hotel in the area on express deals, bought it and found it was this place, I was dreading it and planned a back-up place to stay (and just forfeit the money I'd paid). I was beyond pleasantly surprised when I got into my room and found that the whole place had been redone. The room had pretty nice fake-wood floors instead of the grungy old carpet from before, it smelled fresh and new, the bed was awesome and very comfortable, and generally it felt really clean and perfectly adequate.

I wouldn't give this place 4 stars in comparison to ALL hotels in general, but for the price you're paying and the location, it doesn't get much better than this. I paid $42 for this room--taxes and Priceline fees included--and couldn't have asked for anything more out of it. It's especially a gem for dog-owners like me who bring their pets everywhere...I mean really, what more could you ask for than a clean, tidy, fresh room with a comfortable bed, desk, seating area, bathroom and large flatscreen TV for you and your dog to crash in for 40 bucks for a night?

I still saw some sketchy looking people, but apparently the cops in the area have caught onto that, and when I was there there were 2 cops just stationed there keeping an eye on things. Maybe not the BEST message about what goes on there, but I'm a 25 year old girl who stayed by myself and with those cops there I felt fine. This is definitely a win for a quick, cheap, clean, pet-friendly stay in Durham/Chapel Hill. Kudos to management or whoever implemented the redo of this place--it went from a place I'll never go to a place I'll probably look to stay when I'm in town.

We spent two nights here. All rooms have traditional "motor lodge" outside entrances.  Recently remodeled, the rooms were clean and in good repair, for the most part. The exception was that the air conditioner was very noisy...so noisy, in fact, that we had to turn it down some so it wasn't running all of the time. These were not the best nights of sleep we've had on this trip.

Free Wi-Fi was available MOST of the time. The first night, the hotel was full, and I was unable to obtain an IP address until the next morning. The second night, it worked better. Connect rates were throttled to 1mbps downloads, .5 mbps uploads. Local 4G on Verizon did much better.

As I mentioned earlier, the rooms are remodeled and look good. We had a room with two double beds. There is a simulated-wood vinyl floor instead of wall-to-wall carpet. However, there is carpet between the beds and along the outside.

There was a Panasonic 32" HD TV in the room, including hookups for HDMI and VGA-equipped devices. Picture quality was amazing, since it was DirectTV system via Sonifi.

We didn't spend a lot of time in the room, since we were visiting family outside Pittsboro. However, the time in the room was very satisfactory. I would book a room here again. I booked the room via Orbitz. Per-night rate was about $60.

I stayed here briefly thanks to a great deal on Hotwire. Technically Red Roof Inn is rated two stars, but from my experience, it was at least 2.5-3 stars. The place is recently renovated, super clean (with hardwood floors and not that sketch carpet that most places have), and really comfortable beds. There was complimentary coffee in the lobby and the front desk person was super courteous on check-in and even when I called multiple times. I initially was supposed to check in after 3pm, but since I arrived early, they let me check in at 10am. Score!
If I stayed longer, I would probably have asked for a room in the back since the front faces a busy road. Other than that, Red Roof Inn surpassed my expectations!

I give this place a 4/5 based on value and quality. Newly refurbished and when the door is closed you think you are staying somewhere much nicer! Basic but modern, has everything you need and is clean with hardwood floors and nice appliances. Bed was comfy as were the pillows. Lots of food options just across the road.
We were pleasantly surprised and would definitely return.
