was not sure why it got the bad review, I booked it from priceline 3 weeks ago for President's day long weekend, $50/night including taxes already. free internet, free breakfast, free parking, have hot tub and sauna indoor. it's really close to costco and restaurant such as sushi pier. less than 30 minutes to mt. Rose Ski ranch. It's clean, not too noisy. all shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, soap are Neutrogena. have fridge, microwave, hair dryer, iron in the room. 42" flat screen TV. we got 2 bottle of water and pop corn for free as well. I brought my own slipper. my fridge doesn't have any noise, but the heater is kinda loud when it's running. Breakfast has self made waffle, bagel, biscuit with the white sauce, cereal, egg and cheese omelet, ham, apple juice, OJ, oat meals, yogurt, fruit. it's packed this weekend. the best part, non-smoking. and they have coin operated washer and dryer on site. the shower is pretty strong. the bed is comfortable, the pillow is too flat for me, but I have my own pillow. I will come again as long as they have good rate.

Save your money, old dirty, staff is useless, poor quality furniture and amenities. Very poor customer service. Checked in and out with in an hour. For roughly $50 more you can get a mini suite at the Grand Sierra. It's like night and day... As other people have stated the parking lot is in need of repair. Just save your time, money and frustration and go some wear else, unless you like cheap old and dirty places to stay. Took many photo's and a video to send to corporate office. Guess we will see if they even care.

Stayed at Hawthorne July 25 2012 for one night. This hotel is not in downtown but not that far away, right across the freeway from Grand Sierra Resort, the location of an event I was attending. Arrived at 11 AM and hoped I could drop off my stuff before heading across to the Grand Sierra. Clerk told me check in was at 1:30 but was nice enough to find a vacant room. The hotel itself was a bit dumpy on the outside, formerly a Rodeway Inn that I found was built in 1978. Elevator was pretty beat up but made it up to the third floor location of my room. Hallway had old carpets and paint, my room door was even missing the room number! Wondered if I had made the right decision in renting there, but the room was fine, nice bed, flat screen tv, full size fridge and micro, bathroom had a new showerhead with good pressure, neutrogena products, albeit, super tiny portions, 2 free waters and popcorn nice touch.. complimentary breakfast was not bad, make your own waffles, scrambles, ham, cereals, yogurts, oj, etc.. not the best complimentary breakfast certainly not the worse.. parking a bitch if you return late as I did, had to park in street but no biggy.. A dog friendly location..hooray for that...I would stay again..

I thought we would be staying at a pretty nice place for paying $134. We got to the hotel, the two employees were half asleep at 8pm. I couldn't hear or understand the mumbling soft voiced female who checked me in. The public area carpets were DISGUSTING. Inside our "Suite," the carpet was stained, was obviously not vacuumed. There was hair all over the bathroom and pubic hair all over shower, toilet, and sink. Everything was old. The shower/toilet area was so tiny. There was mold on the shower ceiling. Shower was dirty. The room that was to be a suite, was SO small. I thought it odd that there was a kitchen area including stove, full size refrigerator and kitchen utensils but no table area to eat at. The whole place was just a big disappointment.WiFi was free but signal was too weak to connect. Breakfast was a cluster mess, AC was too loud, parking was tight and not enough spaces. We were there for the Reno Air Races and it was our anniversary. I got two hours sleep because I heard the doors in the hallway shutting and people upstairs walking around and talking. Very thin walls. This is a Wyndam and I expected better!!!!

Overall it was a good stay. Very friendly staff especially Judith and Jay. Liked: hot breakfast was great, hot-tub, sauna, fridge, microwave, cookies in the evening along with a beer and wine reception.
Dislikes: bed was uncomfortable, the housekeepers were unfriendly and the free shuttle was disorganized. We were consistently told different ways of how the shuttle works and it got very annoying. Every staff person had a different answer. We did use the shuttle often and the staff was nice. The woman driver was very helpful.
Overall good if you have a car, but wouldn't rely on the shuttle alone. Or a taxi from downtown is about 8 to 10 bucks.

This place was not the greatest. Don't expect a good night's rest on their beds. The AC was obnoxiously loud; so much so that it was difficult to sleep. They served powdered eggs for breakfast - not the greatest breakfast.

I stayed here for a few nights when I went skiing.
-My room was super cheap!!
-Room was VERY clean and well equipped (came with large mini fridge, free popcorn, two bottles of water, all the usual stuff, loads of towels, good quality soaps, etc)
-Continental breakfast had a good variety
-Free happy hour (they put out free beers, sodas, and wine) - who does this?!?!
-They offer express checkout!
-Carpets are a tad dirty in the hallway (I saw one big grease spot)
-Jacuzzi bathroom door's lock is broken (eww?!)
-Walls seem thin (I kept hearing dogs barking from a room across the hall)
To me, the Pros far outweigh the Cons. I'd stay here again if I'm in town. Lots of other guests were heading off to ski resorts too.

Good - has a two burner stove, small micro, full apt size fridge, comfy bed, large flat screen tv, wifi. Close enough to Renown hospital campus for convenient visiting..
Not good - Filthy common area hallways. Filthy carpets.
Room not ready at check in. Room smelled sour, as if an old nasty mop had been used or the carpet had been damp and the room closed up - smell never got better even after I wiped down the floors myself and left the windows open as long as possible.
Someone else pieces of Cheerios left in the kitchen drawer, food stuck to floor.
Can hear everything in next room unless the window air conditioner fan is on.
Furniture all dented and banged up - surprisingly bad condition of everything, walls, carpet, furniture for a "recent remodel".
Carpet in room stained and soiled. Kept my shoes on.
No kitchen towel, sponge or paper products at all - have to use bath towels or a kleenex from the one partial box to clean up coffe drips etc.
And as everyone says, parking is an issue - good thing they have a luggage cart as parking in the back means you have to push it all the way around the building - there is no back entrance or loading zone at the front, just red curb and full parking.
Also agree with other reviewer - very iffy neighborhood, behind a car lot in an industrial area with high fences. No landscaping or green anything whatsoever

Time will tell if this place holds up, but for now it seems to be in nearly new condition and we thought it was a very good deal - clean, quiet, reasonably cheap, has a kitchenette, accepts pets.
I think the 12/2011 reviewer who gave only a 2-star rating was unreasonable (and I wasn't pleased to read that her dog was allowed on the bed and couch even though she critiqued the place on whether there were signs of dog hair. Ugh! The reason hotels need to charge pet fees is because of people like her who don't respect the property. Our dog is not allowed on hotel furniture!)
Yes, you can probably stay at a casino hotel and get "more" for your money, but the reason they can charge less is because they entice guests to gamble. This place has no gambling, which we much prefer. We'd rather not stay in a subsidized casino hotel room. Our room here was pretty plain, but it was clean and functional and the furnishings seemed pretty new.
Our only complaint was that the parking lot is inadequate. Behind the building, the spaces are so narrow that any passenger pretty much have to get out of the car before the driver pulls in and even then the driver has to squeeze out. Seriously, someone who is obese or who has a large car literally might not be able to park there. By time we arrived (~10 pm), the only spaces left were those where people had parked over the lines and we could barely squeeze in. The people who arrived even later probably cursed those who had seen how narrow the spaces were and inconsiderately chose to straddle two spaces.
Bottom line: we would stay here again (but you might not want to if you aren't willing to risk getting a door ding in your car).

The operator told me they had just finished a full remodel, and they accepted pets. Great price so we moved in before Christmas. Considering the alternative: staying with the in-laws, it was amazing! :)
They had new carpet, shower curtains, bathroom sink/countertop, shower head & big screen TV. Same old grungy tub, dead bugs in the light fixtures, noisy refrigerator in kitchenette, ridiculous pull-out sofabed, and a King of Uncomfortable bed. Good thing the price was really low, or we wouldn't have stayed.
For the same price, we could have stayed at the Atlantis with Amazing bed, shower, food, hospitality, cleanliness and the best spa on the planet!! The only reason we weren't there was because our little dog was with us.
(She really liked the room, the couch, the bed, the doggie potty area, and the quiet neighbors. No sign of dog hair, pet stains, or smells, so that part was great.)
I hope the staff sees this because they are 90% there, especially since they are a Wyndham property. The maintenance staff leaves a lot to be desired. Keep working toward excellence guys!

I stayed at the Hawthorn in June of 2012. For the price, it was a very good deal and I could find little to fault with any of people or hotel amenities.
Pros: + Very clean room
+ Prompt and reactive service from both staff and cleaning
+ Good complementary breakfast
+ Jacuzzi was nice to relax in and well maintained
+ Shuttle system!
Cons: - Parking lot was a bit run-down, but I hear that they are remodeling it
- Somewhat of a dubious location
Overall I would definitely reccomend staying at the Hawthorn again.

Parking isn't as bad as other reviewers have stated. Our room was clean, bed was comfortable. Enjoyed being away from downtown. Still close to everything. The night manager was really nice. Would stay there again!

It looks like it was good hotel once before but it is now in "depression".
building and rooms looks overall ok but it is rather filthy
our non smoking room had been smoked in before and cleaned after but we are sensitive enough to smell it anyway.
carpet had disgusting stains all over - in a hallways and in our room
also stains were all over the curtains. like something exploded.
not nice :( other than that kind of ok in other areas
location is little hard to find and parking is small.
service was good
price was low. located very close to airport.

Our room at the Lexington was great! exactly what we asked for... Two beds, refrigerator, microwave, iron, blow dryer, flat screen TV. Their continental breakfast was truly A HOT breakfast. waffle, biscuits and gravy, juices, cereal, ham and eggs, toast, muffins... We would stay here again in a minute.
