    This is my horrible nightmare of a birthday at the Hilton Garden Inn Reno... I work for a hotel and this mad me rethink staying in them!
     On the night of July 29, 2008 me and my boyfriend, Tim, went to the font desk of the Hilton Garden Inn Reno to pay for our room. The front desk agent, Cory, told me that I had about $30.00 worth of phone charges to my room. I then told him that I was told the night before that the calls were free or I wouldn't have used the phone. He then told me that since it was there mistake telling me that, that they would have them taken off, but he had to get it approved by management first. He then told us that he would have the receipt brought up to my room. Later that night when we returned to our room around 12 midnight there was no receipt in the room so we went down to the front desk.
      When we got to the front desk the agent was helping 4 other guest checking in. When she was done I went up to the desk and told her what room I was in and the we were supposed to have a receipt brought up, but didn't receive it. She then turned around and grabbed a receipt from the back desk and asked if I was Miss. M*** when I told her yes she slammed the receipt down on the desk and said in a rude voice that her manager was not going to have the charges taken off my room. I then told her that it was not right because the 2 agents from the morning said that they would have them taken off because I shouldn't have been charged.
      She then looked at me and very rudely asked me "Don't you work for a Double Tree hotel, a Hilton property?" I then told her Yes I do. She then got in my face and pointed at me and said "You should have known better." I then grabbed the receipt and started to walk away. As I walked away I said "This is the last time I ever stay in this hotel." As we walked down the hall to the elevators I was telling Tim that I was going to go to my management and tell them how rude they had been to us the entire stay when all of a sudden I heard the front desk agent screaming down the hall at us and practically jumping over the desk at us. Saying that she was going to kick us out of the hotel. I then screamed back at her, " I would like to see you try, we didn't do anything." about 5 seconds after, I turned to see her charging down the hall still screaming at me, with a security officer behind her. She was still yelling that she was going to have us kicked out and that she knew what room we were in. Me and Tim then got on to the elevator and went up to our room.
      When I got to the room I called to have the security officer come up to our room. When he came to the room I answered the door and I apologized and told him what had happened. I then told him I wanted to speak with a manager right away. He then left and came back about 5-10 minutes later and said that the manager would like to speak with me in the morning I then asked if he could possibly call me in my room so I could explain what had happened. He then left. About 10 minutes later I got a call in my room from the front desk agent. She again very rudely told me that her manager didn't want to speak with me right now and that he was not going to refund me any of my money for the night and that we were more then welcome to leave. I then told her that I would rather just leave because she was still being rude and hung up. She called back to my room and Tim answered, she told him that security would be back up to escort us out of the hotel and hug up on him. We were then escorted out of the hotel at 12:30am and drove home.
     Other then this horrible incident the staff was very rude when we asked for directions they looked at me and Tim like we were stupid and tossed a couple of maps at us. They didn't have the room i had reserved. I have never stayed in a hotel this bad and will never do it again!

    I enjoyed this hotel.  I suggest that you ask for a room not next to the storage room.  Other then that I would have given the hotel five stars.  Clean, comfortable, and convenient.  Nice customer service.

    I have used the Hilton Garden Inn as a place to stay when I did business in South Denver.  The one in Reno was no different than the one in Denver, which was nice.  However the same things that are good with both of them were also faulty with both of them.

    First, the people are nice.  Really nice.  Every employee that worked there was extremely helpful and pleasant.  The rooms are clean, and all of the necessary items for a business traveler were there.  They have good WI-FI service with about a 1Mb download (upload is about 1/3 that).  There is a small pantry downstairs to purchase very basic food, drink and sundry items.  This place was also across the street from a Starbucks, a wings place, a decent dim-sum restaurant, and both a convenience store and a full-on grocery store.  They offer free cookies (which I really don't need...but that is another conversation), and a shuttle service to the airport.  The shuttle, however, does run at odd times, so check with the front desk on times.  

    The things that I don't care for are also the same.  The breakfast is OK, but nothing is offered for free (even a continental).  The drink selection at the bar is limited to standard fare.  

    The one thing I cannot compare to Denver was the conference room.  I was doing a CCIE bootcamp for a week there, and the free lunch that was offered by the hotel...not good.  They were your basic box lunch, which is fine, but the sandwich was a really hard bread concoction that was both hard and gooey...and neither in a good way.  Given that this is Reno, people are probably not used to the dry heat here, so having more iced water available would have been nice.  Otherwise, the WI-FI worked just fine and the room was comfortable.

    Overall, this hotel delivered as expected given my experience in Denver.  I would recommend it for the business traveler that doesn't want to stay in downtown Reno.

    stayed here for free with the hhonors points.. Its pretty great. I have only one complaint. The breakfast wasn't complimentary and it was 21 bucks which was kinda lame but still it was pretty nice

    nice hotel, stayed one night and was pretty comfortable.
    it was about a month ago and I remember not being able to go to sleep as soon as I would like because I had trouble getting comfortable.  Breakfast is not free so come ready for that. They have a little market area that has a few things that are useful and the business center is also great.

    This was my first stay at this Hilton. I have been staying at Hiltons for the past 7 years with corporate rates and this was the worst service I have had. I had a fractured ankle, I checked in (after the front desk employee stopped flirting with the gay at the guy for 5 minutes) She did not give me water even though this was booked by my work with my hilton honors numbers. I hobbled upstairs to my room and there was no water there . I called down and the women replied "oh I see you are a reward member I forgot you are welcome to come down anytime you want to get it. I told her about my foot and she said no one could come up for 4 hours. I went  back down and asked her about cooperate rates. She said Melissa was the sales manger and she would have her call me. 2 days later after I left Melissa called me. She kept talking over me and was talking so fast I could barely understand her. We discussed a few different options and she said she would run it by her manager and call me tomorrow. 2 days after that I had not heard from her and I realized they had charged my credit card even though the room had already been paid for by my company. I was very frustrated by this. I call again and Melissa was rambling on again and said my boss will be in tomorrow we will call you in the morning. I called at 4 and she called me back at 630. When I called the manager who was out "sick" was there for the potluck they were having but apparently too sick to come to the phone? Melissa got back on the phone and said that they would call me first thing Monday morning. Katie the manager called me at 245 Monday afternoon. I started to tell her about my experience and she did not even let me finish and she suggested I stay at another hotel. I work for a company where we have people travel for classes and need to stay at the hotel we have the classes at. I am very disappointed in how this was handled and after all these years I will now be moving everything over to the competitor. I would never suggest a customer go elsewhere especially after not hearing the whole story.

    This place was very nice as we stayed here for four nights. There was a volleyball tournament in Reno so the bottom floor was very noisy with hgih school girls so asked to move and they accomodated right away. Secondly we had a pachage shipped there two weeks before arriving and it was there upon arrival which was great. As to the rooms clean and spacious. The one thing that I didn't really like is the air condintioners in both rooms as they are a little loud. The pool area is nice but the indoor pool is a little cold just as heads up. As to workout facilities has clear glass that faces out to pool area, which seems to be happening more often than not to make it seem bigger, but I don't like having people being able to watch you workout. Nice location down south and nice front desk.

    Stayed here over the weekend during our usual run to the casinos.  It's a newer hotel, located totally off the main drag of the downtown area.  In all my years of going to Reno, all I know is what's between the trifecta of Silver Legacy, Peppermill and the Nugget and of course all that's in between.  I was pleasantly surprised how nice and even serene this part of town was.

    Upon checking in, the hotel was pretty quiet, which I was surprised since the casino hotels were quite busy.  Heather at the Front Desk checked me in and was quite friendly.

    The room was located on the third floor facing the back of the hotel, which had a view of the hills and a small little lake to the side.  While walking there, the carpets had a busy pattern to it but, I guess that makes sense since it will probably get lots of traffic over the years.  The room itself was nicely furnished and had contemporary decor.  Earth tones and dark woods was the color scheme.  There was a microwave, refrigerator and coffee maker, LCD TV with gaming and PPV movies, comfy chair w/ottoman, desk with ergonomic chair, free HSIA and the most comfortable bed you'll ever sleep on, which is why I love HGI's!  The bathroom was standard and spacious featuring Neutrogena amenities.  During our one-night stay, it was very quiet and comfortable.

    Although the hotel also had a restaurant, fitness center and indoor pool, we didn't get a chance to use it.  I also noticed there was a shuttle van but, not sure where or how far it'll take you.

    The location itself is great as it's located just off the 395 and is within walking distance to a gas station, restaurants and grocery store.  However, my only gripe about the location is that it's quite a ways from the casinos, probably a good 10-15 minute drive door to door to the Peppermill.

    Overall, this is a great hotel, nice furnishings and you'll enjoy a comfortable stay but, if you're looking to stay within the excitement of downtown Reno, be sure to have a car.

    Love this hotel! My honey and I went to Reno just to get away for the night. I wanted to stay off the strip so he wouldn't be in the casino all night losing money. It was very comfortable and clean. I was able to take a nice bath without looking around for creepy looking stuff. Wing Stop was right across the street which was a treat for my cheat night. We had our radio dancing and making noice and no one complained at all. We didn't eat here. Got up and on the road. I will definitely staff here again. Did I mention it was very nice and clean.

    Although its somewhat new, facilities are nice and the reception clerk was nice and helpful the rates were to high for the Reno area.  Offered no reduced rates for AAA, AARP or Armed Forces!  Was a bit noisy in the hallway, but as stated it was Reno and the drinks flow 24 7.  With the rates I paid for a night a breakfast meal should have been covered.  I would not recommend nor will I stay in this facility on my next trip.  Sorry Hilton, but your just too damn high for this town!

    Hilton Garden Inns are becoming my go-to places to stay because they are incredibly consistent. The interiors are always the same no matter where you are in the country. They hand you a couple of bottles of water at check-in which is nice since that's one of those little details you never think of until late at night or early in the morning and you wish you had some water.

    The shuttle is a little weird in that it only runs in the morning through maybe 4pm. Then they don't run again until the evening when apparently there are a bunch of flights. I guess the Reno airport isn't that big so having constant shuttle service isn't essential. The good news is that if you need a ride off hours, someone will take you. I wanted a ride at 4am and when I arrived in the lobby at 5 minutes till, the van was warming up and the driver stretching. Excellent.

    Within close walking are a few places to eat if you need a bite nearby. there's a 24 hour place called the Golden Nugget that has a diverse menu, a Japanese place, a Taco Bell, McDonalds is about 100 feet away, a grocery store, a health spa, wing place, sub joint, and a few other places. Decent location if you don't want to drive anywhere.

    I like this place.

    If you don't have a car and want to go downtown, take the shuttle to the airport, then jump on one of the casino vans as they are free and plentiful. Once you're done downtown, head back to the airport in a casino van and wait for the Garden Inn's shuttle.

    This was such a great choice. I was camping when I got really sick with my asthma. So rather than blow away the vacation time we went to Reno. I called around and they had the best prices. This is a nonsmoking hotel which is super awesome!! The person who checked us in, Jessica, was so nice that she remembered me when I got there.
    We did got to happy hour to get a bite to eat and they bartender was so nice. It was her second day, but she was doing a great job. The food was not the greatest, but I think it is because they only have one guy to cook. Now don't get me wrong they food was tasty it just wasn't a big selection.
    Their pool and spa were very clean and had towels waiting so you didn't have to use your room towels.
    The rooms were big and very comfortable. They had lots of towels and great shampoo and soap. And they give you lots of pillows!!!
    I will go there again!!!!

    I travel for long stays and I am an HH member.
    - AC was out in the gym twice
    -Unable to hook my lap top up to the TV to watch Netflix, TV UI does not allow for HDMI this is a big deal for me.
    -Mentioned that I would be back for a 3 week stay and would stay at HGI if they could fix the HDMI issue. Was told there was nothing they could do.
    -Switched out traditional coffee makers to Kuerig mid stay and I was unable to make my desired brand of coffee (waste of money for me)  When I asked them to return the traditional coffee maker they stated that they trashed them all.

    +Staff is friendly and they go out of there way to be helpful.

    I am very happy that I booked a room here for my four-day work trip.  The price was reasonable, the service is great and the accommodations were fine.  There is plenty of parking and it's a safe hotel (especially for a woman traveling alone).  
    The only two issues I have are: the AC in the fitness center wasn't working so I had to cut my work outs short and there's no free breakfast like the other Hilton properties offer.  The location is very close to Renown South Medical Center and freeway.  I also recommend CaiE's Chinese Restaurant, which is literally a two minute drive.
    The room is great: large king bed, desk and sitting area.  I appreciate the single coffee maker, fridge and microwave.  These are pluses, especially when you're here for four days.  Overall, I am happy, will return and will recommend.  I hope they fix the AC and include breakfast in the daily room rate.

    Ah... another hotel review, another HIlton Garden Inn.  If you've been to any other HGI (yeah... I call 'em HGI's... because we're close like that), you'll be shocked, SHOCKED, to see that same modern yet classic architectural style when you walk into the lobby with that same Great American Grill on one side, a sitting area with fireplace on the other.  There is actually a bar with TVs (they've always been on ESPN when I'm there) just past the restaurant area that a nice feature you might not find at other HGI's.

    Remember, if you arrive in the evenings, they have fresh baked cookies.  White chocolate macadamia nut and M&M (or generic hard candy-shell coated chocolate drop) cookies... always welcome.

    The rooms are outfitted with the same catalog of HGI furniture - minifridge/microwave station, HDTV on a dresser, work desk with outlets and desk lamp, and a lounger with an ottoman.  The TV has a good selection of HD locals and SD cable channels.  The hotel Wi-Fi is complimentary and there is a wired connection in each room, however I've found the speeds to be on the slower side.  Same goes for the AT&T 3G signal.  There is a Starbucks nearby, so you may be able to connect into the free attwifi network.

    Location is close to 395 and easy access.  Grocery store across the street, gas station, banks all nearby.

    The fitness room is small but well equipped.  Treadmill, stationary bike, and a bench with a full set of barbells.  There is also a pool available and just behind the hotel is a man-made lake with a path around it - great for a run or just grab a bench and lounge.

    This is a solid choice in the Reno area.  Clean, new, accessible, and relatively affordable.  Location seems pretty safe.  Friendly staff.  Always my go-to hotel when I'm in Reno.

    This location was pretty good. The bed was very hard and pillows were just crazy. Didn't realize until I left that you could adjust the firmness of the bed. Otherwise the room was okay. Breakfast was ok, but not great. Bus driver was exceptional, Henry. He made the stay fun.

    Ah Hilton, you are my rock when I travel.  The things I can always count on are a good clean room, wonderful service and a welcoming atmosphere.  This Hilton is, of course, all of those and one of the reasons I continue to stay at Garden Inn's.

    So if I enjoyed Hilton so much, why not 5 stars?  I'll tell you, internet..... pure and simple.  The internet at this location, while free, is HORRIDLY slow.  Wifi or wired, no difference.  You can expect to have dial-up speeds, dropped packets and horrible latency.

    Oddly enough, during this week, I also traveled to Redding and stayed at a Garden Inn there.  Surprisingly the speed there were fast and reliable.

    Alas, I will stay here again.  However I will just tether my phone to my computer for an internet connection.

    We had a confirmation number from Hilton for the night after Burningman. They over sold the hotel and left us to fend for ourselves. We even pre paid. Unacceptable. They blamed the influx of people. Then they blamed hotel dot com. When I read the Hilton issued number they quieted down. I blame a faulty process. Also, any business that blames someone else for their shortcomings has management issues.

    Very Nice to stay there, stayed while visiting Lake Tahoe...Everything was perfect, room, view and staff. I left my leather jacket and they sent me the Jacket by Fedex. Really appreciated the staff for taking care of everything...good recommendation

    My two day stay was wonderful here. It's a newer hotel located in South Reno. The hotel is very clean inside and out. Our room was very spotless and fresh. This hotel has the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in. You can adjust the firmness/softness of the bed as well. The pillows that are provided are comfortable and enough pillows are provided. The best part of this hotel is the staff. Staff are extremely friendly and will go out of their way to make your stay here worth while. A young man checked us in and he was so nice to us. He even gave us coupons for the breakfast buffet because my dad is a Veteran (the buffet is $11.95 per person). The young man even asked us if we wanted water bottles after we got done checking in. The hotel restaurant was delicious. The servers were attentive and made sure you were taken care of right away. There are some places to eat right across the street from the hotel, including a grocery store and Starbucks. I will for sure be staying here again when I return to Reno.

    This is my "go to" hotel in Reno when on business.  It's quiet, very clean and the staff have always been so friendly and helpful.  I always feel very welcomed and haven't ever had any issues here.  I usually eat at the Garden Inn restaurant to rack up the points.  The food is moderately good.  But when I'm tired from driving and working all day, the last thing I want to do is get in my car and drive to a restaurant.  I'd rather enjoy their Happy Hour and a dinner right here, and just walk to my room.  :-)

    We booked two rooms here at the last minute and they were just perfect. Great location that is close to a grocery store, Starbucks, gas and banks. Clean lobby, restrooms were well stocked and spiffy too. Staff is friendly, helpful and efficient.

    The only reason I give it 4 stars is because the hot tub was sooo hot that it actually felt like I was slowly cooking to death. My 80 year old grandmother went ahead of me and left for the pool and hot tub area. By the time I got dressed and to the pool area, she had been in the hot tub for about 5 minutes. I was alarmed by what I saw when I walked in.  She was beet, I mean beet red. I got in, and it instantly burned my legs. I urged her to get out and I'm so glad I made it there when I did. It had to be 105 or higher. That kind of heat is deadly and completely unnecessary for a public place. We called front desk and asked them to turn it down. Hoping it would be nicer to get in it tomorrow night. The next night it was still scalding hot. Our request was simply ignored. Just disappointing. The next morning I told the guy at the front desk, who was very polite and said he would leave a note for maintenance.  

    Overall, it was a great stay.  I would return again, but I suggest management keep the hot tub temp at a standard 101 :)

    Decent hotel in a tourist town.  A bit of a mix between Hampton Inn and regular Holiday Inn where you do not automatically get breakfast.  You trade accumulated points for breakfast even at Diamond status...  Love their oranges in the fruit basket up front with the Keurig machine in the room,  Hot tub was hot which is a plus but got locked out earlier due to DST change and front desk can not get people in, weird...  Now the bad part: used hotel phone to call in what I thought was toll free call but alas it was not.  But $88.22 for an 8 minute 14 sec call has got to be the pricest in this world.  Profuse apologies from the manager but it is what it is....   Read them little fine print pamphlet that explains the gouging in detail.  
    Caveat emptor!!!

    Room was clean.   Facilities such as weight room were closed with a sign on the door.    The 4th floor upstairs neighbors were so loud in the evening and the morning that it made for a really unpleasant visit.   Complaining about the noise didn't help.

    Location is great for Reno, safe , clean easy parking.  The lobby is very nice clean fresh NO SMOKE.  Nice bar and lounge area.  They serve dinner but I would not recommend, go somewhere or hell walk to McDonalds  the microwaved swill I paid $30 for was gross.  The rooms are basic hotel but VERY clean. Its a quiet hotel with business types staying.  I will come back, however not for dinner.  although the free cookies in the lobby where pretty good.  Its a bit pricey for Reno $136 but I guess that's the price you pay for no smoke or degenerates from the larger casinos.

    Oh and the beds are interesting - TBD

    The Hilton Garden Inn is more geared towards business folk, which is what I like about it. This last weekend I stayed for two nights. There was barely anyone there and it was great!

    The front has fresh fruit, coffee, and tea 24/7 to take which was great. The breakfast in the morning was great, good coffee, good eggs, and toast. Oh, and the breakfast server was sooo nice and attentive, the best I have ever had.

    The rooms were very clean. I wish the TV was bigger (32in) but it was a flat screen which is better than most.

    The pool was closed but they allowed people to use the neighboring hotels pool. The fitness room was basic although it did the trick.

    I would recommend this place, it is about 10 minutes from downtown.

    The public bathrooms were filthy. (Fecal matter, no toilet paper, etc). The hot tub broken for over 5 days, freezing swimming pool, and a freezing cold lobby and dining area. There were space heaters behind the serving bar.

    I really like staying here. It's clean, the room service food is not bad at all and they have got you covered with whatever you need. I also love that they'll upgrade your room when they can.

    I have stayed at a few other hotels nearby I won't mention and I was extremely grossed out and disappointed so I have to say, this has been my new home when I'm in town for work.

    My only complaint.... where's the free breakfast?!

    Far away from the Reno strip.

    Quiet, and almost secluded.

    A Starbucks located across the street. (yes, thank you!)
    Two gas stations also across the street. (woke up the next morning and filled up)
    A McDonald's and a grocery store also across the street. (no MickeyD's for us. Because the room had a refrigerator and microwave, we shopped at the grocery store and had microwaved food (yes, this the kids considered as being awesome!) and had drinks that were kept cold all night long and through the morning.)


    Super nice workers.

    Dual control bed firmness thingy. I had the bed to myself so I set one side super firm and one side super soft.

    Refrigerator, microwave and Keurig in the room.

    No regrets. No complaints...well, maybe it could have been cheaper (everything could be cheaper), but even the price was good for what we got. If we ever come back, this place is where we'll be...unless of course we get comped at a hotel on the strip.

    The nicest hotel in South Reno for about the same price as the others. My father in law is living in the Extended Stay America on the next street over, and at about $25 more a night this place gets you SO much more.

    Of course it's a Hilton so you basically know what you're getting. Spotlessly clean, fresh and modern decor, and amazingly comfy beds which adjust from soft to hard on both sides. Didn't get a chance to try the restaurant, pool or exercise room as the hotel was literally full with basketball kids going to a convention in Reno. We were expecting a loud, obnoxious sleepless night, but honestly I didn't hear a thing and slept great!

    Great front desk service who worked with us to change the location of our room. Highly recommend if you are staying in the area and don't care about gambling all night in a casino hotel.

    One of the better business hotels in Reno, the Hilton Garden Inn has been my "home" away from home for about a year and a half now. Since I started traveling here for work they've gone through a few front desk folks and a remodel of the main lobby. The former front desk crew was quite good. But they were replaced with equally as capable, friendly, and charming attendants. The new lobby also looks modern and updated.

    Two words to sum up the time I spent here, consistent experience. Every time I visit, I am greeted by a friendly smile (Kat) and fast efficient service. The few times that I experienced any sort of challenges, the front desk team handled them swiftly and without incident.

    All-in-all, I'd recommend this hotel for business travelers looking to stay for a short or extended period of time.

    Tip: If you're hungry and in the mood for a short walk, there's a bar/grill that is caddy-corner from the hotel called Sierra Gold. Show them your hotel room key card and get 10% off your meal!

    We booked a block of rooms here for my husband's 70th birthday, had frriends coming in from around the country. The hotel is very quiet, clean, and they upgraded us to a king suite, which was very nice, and accomodate my ADA needs quite nicely. They totally messed up my sister-in-laws reservation, but managed to fix it by the time she checked out (I think).

    They have a shuttle that will pick you up at the airport, and will take you within 10 miles of the hotel, but it isn't ADA compliant, so it was usless for us, since we were having dinner off the property.

    The staff was more than helpful, the asst. manager, showed us to our room, helped us with our luggage, and helped check us in, and the bartenter, (also the shuttle driver), picked up our party at the restaurant when we were done partying, and then opened up the bar just for us when we wanted an after party drink.

    I would stay here again if I needed a South Reno getaway, but I would be sure to make any little details clear, as the contract we signed for the block of rooms was very openeneded, and I wasn't really happy with the "discount" we received, or the details of the shuttle, which is why the Hilton didn't get five stars.
