We stayed at this hotel for the few days we stayed in NYC before boarding our cruise. We chose this hotel mainly for the price and for the superb location in the city. If you're in the travel industry, you get a fantastic savings of 50% with your IATAN card, so be sure to ask for it when making your reservations. If you're not in the travel industry, they do offer the standard AAA discount, military, etc. After making our reservations I went to the website and actually was pleasantly surprised. Not that I thought this place would be a dump, but ehhh, I just wasn't to sure what to expect. Exceptionally located only a few blocks from 5th Ave, Rockefeller Center and St Patrick's Cathedral, my husband and I were able to see many of the things we wanted to see and do within just a few short blocks on foot. It's hard to say because I'm not familiar with New York architecture, but this building seems like it may have been an apartment complex at one point. We had just a regular room, but all the rooms at the Hospitality House are suites with a kitchenette, a large living area, a separate bathroom, and a large bedroom. This hotel room was much bigger than any studio I've ever rented in Seattle! The hotel included a continental breakfast in which they kept the refrigerator in your room stocked with orange juice, milk, bagged bagels, cream cheese, fresh fruit, and little cereal boxes. Also, packets of coffee to brew yourself.  Nothing fancy, but I like cereal. The kitchenette was equipped with a dishwasher. I opened a cabinet to find a glass to have some juice, but almost all the (clean) dishes were found in the dishwasher. At least they weren't dirty. Upon returning to our room one evening, the maid had even cleaned the dishes I had left in the sink and returned them to the cabinet. I suppose that is their job, but I would have been happy re-using my glass and her saving her time to clean all the dirty dishes after we checked out. The Hospitality House even offers free wi-fi. I hadn't thought to bring any cords for hooking up our notebook, but the hotel let us borrow one so we could use the wi-fi. Nice. All the staff we encountered were really nice and helpful. One morning, we asked the gentleman at the front desk a question on the best way to get somewhere, and he easily and helpfully pointed us in the right direction. When we first checked in, we got there early and I thought we would just leave our bags and come back at check-in time (3pm). Nope, they had a room all clean and ready for us at noon. After the red eye we had just come in on, that was awesome! Funny thing, on our flight home on Jet Blue, I saw a commercial on tv for Best Western and the lady who checked us in was in that commercial featuring our hotel. Cool. I had read some reviews at another review site (hey, there weren't any on Yelp!) and some people had mentioned the lack of cleanliness. Whatever, I thought the hotel was pretty damn clean. Nothing gross anywhere, no smells, clean bathroom, no mold, probably cleaner than a few other hotels I've been to in my life. When I return to NYC, and I will, I will most definitely stay at the Best Western Hospitality House again. You just can't beat great service, awesome price, and neat and clean accommodations centrally located in a such a great city.

Best Western Hospitality House is located in a great location - within walking distance to everything: 5th Ave., St. Patrick's Cathedral, Central Park, and the 51st and Lexington subway station. This was, by far, the coziest and "homiest" hotel I have ever been to. We had a great 2 bedroom suite with a living room, dining room, and kitchen. The fact that the building had formerly been an apartment building ensured its spacious living and dining quarters. The only thing I did NOT like about this hotel was that, as great as it was - they had the WORST service I have ever experienced in my life. Basically, whatever you already have stocked in your room is what you'll have in your room till the next day, no matter if you ask for extras or not. Several times, we called-in asking for extra bath towels and either wouldn't get them after the first phone call, or we'd get them much, much later. We ran-out of dishwashing soap one evening, and didn't get it until the following evening. The front desk was not properly trained to handle requests from hotel guests - whatever we asked for in the daytime while passing by the front desk would never be fulfilled. One day, the elevator wasn't working. The front desk personnel said it was already on its way up. After waiting a good 15 minutes infront of the elevator, my husband took the stairs all the way down from the 7th floor and found-out that the maintenance personnel left their key inside the slot in the elevator that makes it go up to the penthouse, skipping all other floors. A lamp in our room wasn't turning-on.. It turns out it didn't even have a lightbulb, but it was still kept plugged-in! Our television wasn't working, either, and the maintenance man that was supposed to come-up the next day never actually came. I was totally disappointed with their service.. If the hotel weren't located so closeby NYC's main attractions, the rooms weren't great and they didn't provide you with a continental breakfast, I wouldn't recommend coming here. Our needs were not met at all while we were here, and I never remembered a time when the hotel staff came through with requests outside of what they were asked to do each day (regular housekeeping, etc.).

Pros

- Large rooms
- Location
- Friendly Staff (especially Sam)
- Free Breakfast
- Free Welcome Foods in Kitchen
- Comfy beds
- Hard wood floors
- Good value for what you get in NY

Cons
- One elevator (pretty slow)
- Very small
- The corridors still look like an apartment

Overall, I am impressed. For the price I paid, I am very happy.

i've stayed here 3 times.

- on demand, in room continental breakfast. from your own standard-size fridge. you can have breakfast-like snacks on your schedule.
- no space vs. service sacrifice. the converted apartments make for large, totally convenient accommodations with hotel conveniences!
- best location ever. walking distance to everything, but on a low-key block.
- good eats. it's barely a block from smith and wollensky.
- affordable.

i can't think of any negatives. 5 well deserved stars.

My family stayed here for 4 days in a 2 bedroom apartment with a full kitchen. It was a great room for the 4 of us. It gave us all the privacy we needed while vacationing together. The location was on one of the quieter streets, there are several restaurants on the same street, it is within walking distance to Rockefeller Center and lots of other stores. The lobby is really small. The elevator is really small. The complimentary breakfast is ok. They had some kind of egg, some kind of meat, pastries, breads, muffins, juice, coffee, cereal, waffles, fruit, yogurt. There is a small eating area downstairs or you can take the tray from your room and take your food back up with you. The front desk staff is ok. You can tell some of them are being fake/phony. My 14 yo niece was sitting in the lobby waiting for us to come back inside and she overheard one of the front desk staff cussing someone out on the phone and going off, calling them an idiot, etc. etc. but when we came in he was just as 'nice' as he could be. We didn't ask too much of the front desk so we didn't have to deal with him often. I would stay there again.

Outstanding location!  HUGE rooms - ours even had a FULL kitchen.  Don't be put off by the lobby when you get there, this place is high quality for good prices.  You'll feel like you're living in an apartment in NYC for your stay.

I'll be staying here again if I got o NYC.  Penthouse rooms work great for groups - one is a 2 bedroom apartment with a third queen size pull-out couch!

Convenient location. Nice neighborhood.  Pizza place next door.  Buccara Indian restaurant down the street.  Kitchen includes microwave and large refrigerator.  Be sure to turn off the old steam type heater - usually not needed.  There is only a single elevator so it can be busy at times.  Formerly an apartment building so the rooms are large - good for families.

We were VERY pleased with our stay! It was only for one night unfortunately so we didn't get to enjoy the lovely upgrade to their Penthouse Suite...which is a beautiful apartment on the 9th floor equipped with complimentary toiletries from Bath and Body Works and Snacks/Coffee in the fridge. There was a HUGE private deck attached, which was beautiful but the snow sort of prevented us from utilizing it. The shower was amazing...and bed was ultra comfy. Needless to say the apartment which had a bedroom, dining room, living room, separate kitchen, bathroom, private deck. It was very quiet, clean, and spacious!
The complimentary breakfast was very good!
The staff was by far the most helpful friendly staff, I was very pleased. I will definitely come back.
Plus you CAN"T beat the location!!!

Absolutely loved this hotel!  Travelling with 3 people sharing.  Our apartment was very large, had a king bed in the bedroom.  We added a roll away cot and there was plenty of room for it.  The breakfast was very good, wifi worked perfectly, lots of security (needed your key to get to your floor) and having a free printer was very helpful for printing boarding passes.  I would highly recommend this spot.  The housekeeping was very prompt and thorough.  All staff were very helpful.  I will stay here again.  Would love to try the 2 bedroom apartment!

I can't believe what a find this place is.  I had to grab a hotel for one night, midweek for an interview the following day.  My expenses were going to be comped by the company, so I could have chosen the St. Regis, but I didnt want to be obnoxious.   I saw this BW on Hotels.com , at a really good price, ideal location, and very good reviews - all held true at the conclusion of my stay.

I grabbed a 1 bed - but moreover, these rooms are seriously HUGE. They come with living rooms, kitchens, very spacious.   Almost like living in your own NYC apartment - but with maids!    I was able to spread out and actually get some work done in the morning, sitting out on the dining room table.   Breakfast was just okay, but the free coffee hit the spot.

Another attractive feature of this spot is the subsidized parking down there street. for each 24 hrs, its like $35, which cant be beat for the location.  Seriously, if I get the job and have to move to NYC, I might just book this hotel as my place of residence...
