Excellent hotel. Great location at a very affordable price. Staff was too notch and catered to my every need. I will recommend this hotel and no other for anyone going to New York. Just a warning though: the rooms are fairly small.  However, they are more than adequate for most anyone's needs and extremely comfortable.

I am not a guest there but my sister and brother in law are. I wanted to order a bottle of wine for them for their anniversary.  I spoke with Armando first and he was so helpful and did everything he could to make sure that I was able to get it to them.  He contacted his manager who in turn contacted me.  I also spoke to another young lady who's name I can't remember and she was super helpful as well.  Long story short I was able to surprise my sister and brother in law with a bottle of wine on their anniversary all the way from san Diego. The staff was really friendly and extremely helpful!

This was a great choice! My mom brought me to New York as a birthday present and we used Expedia to book our hotel! It has a good Expedia rating so we decided to give it a try! As soon as we came in everything smelled nice and fresh and the lobby was very cool and modern! Everyone was really helpful and immediately offered to help us and brought us some drinks! Then we got to pick our room (we got one on the 12th floor)...the room was small however I didn't feel uncomfortable at all! The bar and terrace are very nice as well as the gym! I don't have anything bad to say about the hotel! It's literally a block away from radiocity music hall and from Times Square! This is a must see!

Yay! Finally a reasonably priced nice hotel in Times Square.

I have to say this is the "coolest" hotel I've ever stayed at. As soon as you enter you're greeted by friendly staff to help you check in, but unlike most hotels in NYC you'll want to explore the lobby before even dropping your bags. The lobby has a super high ceiling making it feel spacious despite it being covered in art, books and comfy sofas and chairs. There is a bar to sit at as well as an area with hot and cold food, both of which are open late. (My americano was delicious!) There is also a lofty sort of space that looks down on the lobby with community tables and even a few computers. Wifi is everywhere.

Next you have the room. Okay the room is tiny- but it is also undeniably efficient. There is plenty of space to store your luggage and clothing, a small bathroom with an awesome shower (and no need to sit on the toilet sideways to close the door unlike some hotels in the area), and a wall to wall super comfy king size bed. The rooms have a high-tech spacey feel and everything from the tv to the blinds in controlled by an ipad type tablet. They also include a nice hair dryer (good for me!) and a small desk; although I'd rather sit in one of the community spaces. The room was also very quiet despite being right on 50th street neither me or my boyfriend heard any street noise.

Last the rooftop bar =) Cool vibe, great views... Done.

All said a super cool and fun place to stay and hang in NYC without going totally broke.

Kudos to bartenders Frances and Kellen for making my stay memorable. They took the time to listen to and understand my drinks likes and dislikes and then recommended something appropriate. Love the "smoking gun" and "Brooklyn's finest" drinks recommended by both Kellan and Frances (Respectively). Nice people, professional bartenders, fun place to hang out after a hard day of work.

Would give this place a solid 4.5 great atmosphere, friendly and attentive staff, the tablet that controls the room was very futuristic. The location is great, water was hot, the rooms were cozy, the bar was decent, the people here were quiet and probably from out of the country.  Would have liked body soap, outdoor heaters, free coffee.  We were able to borrow an umbrella for a rainy day.  Give a shout out to Leah and Abel, they were bad ass.

We went in early September and our experience was awesome! Easy, quick check-in as soon as you walk in, with staff to help you around the clock.  We had many questions about the area, including how to use the subway and the staff was always willing to help out.  The hotel is very modern and like no other hotel I've ever seen.  The rooms are very small, but you're in New York! You shouldn't be in your hotel anyways. Overall, we had a really great experience.

I only hung out in the bar on a late Friday afternoon. Very cool, eclectic  atmosphere, in the middle of touristy Times Square. They have a rooftop deck currently reserved for only overnight customers and I am hoping that changes in the near future. Prices are not bad as it was $12 for a cocktail. For this area of NYC that isnt bad at all!

Hotel is really well located however too expansive. If this is your first time in NYC, be aware that NY is provided with an excellent transportation system, you can reach any point of the city, in no time, so look alternatives. The lobby is very attractive, fashion, surely design and music are going to be in the final bill. The room is nice, modern, very comfortable and clean, even if too small. Technology and gadgets are the best part of the hotel, iPad; must tell you that I've got an issue with the Staff, was discussed with the Manager and sorted out. I cannot recommend this hotel for family, too expansive.

Phenomenal hotel with an incredibly confusing remote tablet for the room. Honestly, we loved everything about this place. Great price, great location, incredible bed, great atmosphere. Everything. EXCEPT the freaking tablet to control the room. I'm about as tech as you can get, and this thing confused me. The app crashed, the tablet hanged, and even when it did work, just turning on a light or turning off the TV took 5-7 clicks on the app before you got to the right screen to make a change. Great idea, horrible execution. Give me an easier app and I'll gladly change this to 5-stars.

CitizenM rocks! Everything about this hotel was a great experience. The initial super friendly welcome, easy check in, at a round table inside the entrance, was just the beginning. Two helpful staffers made unloading painless. The lobby is open, with loads of comfy seating, and available food with an open bar. There's also a wonderful rooftop bar reserved mostly for hotel guests,  again with comfortable seating, and "wow" views. There is a wonderful gym on site, with clean, working equipment. Our room was well thought out, with everything working, stocked, and super clean. All the room's controls - lights, shades, tv, etc, were run bedside with a Samsung pad. The shower was heaven!
Two things make this CitizenM a standout experience - the incredibly friendly and helpful staff, and the hotel design. I know these attributes will make this a repeat NYC stay for us.

I switched to this hotel after having an unknown man enter my room with a key in the middle the night at the Best Western President Hotel. The CitizenM hotel was a welcomed upgrade and 1000 times better! Checking in was a breeze and the room was clean, had a great layout and I loved the modern decor. I also enjoyed being able to control everything from the control pad. The lighting and music playlists were great! You get a free drink from the bar and all employees were friendly and helpful. I would definitely  recommend this hotel for people in their 20s who want an affordable, trendy and convenient hotel in NYC.

My husband & I stayed here 3 nights in late December. We loved the friendly international atmosphere. The room is small; think well designed cruise cabin. We liked all the high tech items & use of tablet for lights, thermostat & TV. Bed very comfortable. We did move pillows to window so we didn't have to climb over each other getting in& out of bed. Very convenient location& loved the food on the go area in the hotel. Loved the roof top bar. Great friendly staff. Nothing negative to say. Will definitely stay here again!

I was afraid to do a review since I don't want this fabulous secret to get out. We stayed at the citizen last weekend as part of a girls trip to NYC. Location was fantastic being at 50th/Broadway close to all the Times Square action. Check in was easy and the lobby vibe was very European. Room was a tiny mix of interior cruise ship cabin meets ikea. Every amenity I could want was available, minus room service. The gigantic bed was comfy and the tablet controls were fun to navigate.  If you have a roommate, be aware that every noise you make in the potty can be heard.  Rooftop bar was a great place to chill and catch the sunset while waiting for others in the group. Lobby bar had great beverages, including an espresso bar in the morning.  I look forward to coming back soon to stay here.  What a treat!

We arrived to the hotel after reserving online. we got there only by reviews recommendation.
The hotel is beautifully, up to date designed and the service is extraordinary.
Young beautiful happy people!
The rooms are pretty small but designed perfectly to their size.
Unfortunately, my husband wasn't satisfied Due to the size of the rooms so we moved to a different hotel.. But The staff was amazingly understanding and let us leave with a smile.
Recommended to funlovin youngsters that are in the city for outdoor activities.

Had the best time at CitizenM NYC! It's a gem in the middle of Times Square. Took my boyfriend here for a surprise birthday weekend and from our check in to check out we were extremely happy with everything we experienced. The staff was really friendly, very helpful, non-intrusive, genuine and really catered to us. It was more like hanging out at a friend's house. Not stuffy, totally hip and just really, really comfortable! The rooms are tiny, but they aren't obnoxiously so. Super comfy beds and a great view of the city. When in NYC though, your not there to hang in your room! We spent a ton of time in their communal space. Eating, drinking, chilling, feet kicked up and taking pics of their decor. It's such a cool vibe!

Loved the ease of the check in/ check out, the tablet in the room to control everything, the home cooked meals, the "living room," seriously, did I mention it was like crashing at a friends super cool pad?

We were really pleased and didn't want to leave. Surprised it was in Times Square, but no matter, it was centrally located based on our weekend plans.

The coffee was the bomb, and the Manager Jason, chatted it up with us, then followed us out and gave us the room keys/luggage tags.

5 stars, and we'll be back!

We couldn't have picked a better place to stay for Valentine's Day. We checked in 3 hours early, but since we pre-payed online, the staff gave us room keys and said we were all taken care of and ready to settle in.

The room: incredible! Huge window for a full view of the city street, mood pad which allowed us to change the colors and feel of the room at the touch of a button (some presets include "romance," "party," and "relax"), and a GIGANTIC, beyond-comfortable bed. The rainfall shower hit the spot after we came in from the cold.

We got two free drinks at the bar with our stay, and even though I don't enjoy being high up, the Cloud Bar had some of the best views of NYC.

The service was incredible. We were told by the bartender that every member of the staff (aside from the cleaning crew, which is a different company) does everything: cooking, bar tending, reception, etc. That is such a good business model and it provides the staff with extreme job security.

Point being, I would recommend this place to everybody. Just sign up to become a "citizen" yourself and you're on your way to an unforgettable experience!

I love this hotel!!! I came down to NYC for some R&R. I was skeptical about this place. It sounded good, but....their website didn't have any good quality pictures that let you understand the layout of their rooms.

It is the tiniest hotel room I've ever been in, but also the best planned. I can't believe we were so comfortable in such a small space.  Plus lots of thoughtful details in the room - including two separate closets, under-bed storage, great shower, a desk to work at, and one comfortable chair. I would go back there for two, and even better for one. Loved it!!! They have a killer rooftop bar and a fabulous lobby that is great for visiting, lounging, eating, etc. They really think about the traveler in the way they do things. I can't imagine wanting to stay anywhere else. My only criticism - wish they had one more elevator. Otherwise, fantastic. Can't wait to try other citizenM hotels in other cities.

CitizenM is the perfect hotel for a business traveler; especially business travelers who enjoy an techie/modern feel to their environment.  The rooms are laid out very efficiently and make great use of the 200 or less Sq. Ft.  Really great mood lighting and controls of the room kind of make you feel like you are holed up in a funky space capsule that you don't really want to leave!  Not quite up to par with their sister London property, but still a very solid stay for the money.

Two potential issues that you should have a heads up about: First, this hotel would not be good for a family, like at all...in fact, if you have more than one person in the room, be ready to fumble all over each other (which isn't always a bad thing :)...second, from what I can tell, there is ONE IRON in the entire hotel...oh and you have to go to the second floor to use it...needless to say, logistically that stinks, not to mention the awkwardness of schlepping your clothes down to another floor to combat wrinkles...Minus 1 for that.

Overall though, a great property, a hip staff, and very accommodating amenities all add up to a great stay at one of the most trending hotels in NYC.

CitizenM is a chic, cool & vibrant hotel in the NW Section of Times Square just steps from the A-Line. The true greatness of this, my new Favorite Manhattan Hotel however lies in its wonderful  staff. I was greeted with warm friendly smiles from everyone I encountered during my 3 day visit. Special thanks to the 'Exceptional Leah', she changed my room to a better view with a smile, reminded me of my free drink voucher after a weary day, made great restaurant recommendations and was simply an absolute joy.  It is rare in my global travels to be treated so warmly and  professionally by such a welcoming host.  Look forward to my next stay at CitizenM NYC

fantastic good value hotel in great location on 50th.
I booked this reservation on booking.com and the rate was amongst the cheapest for a nice hotel. I believe 680$ for 2 nights, better than most similar hotels. Very happy with the price

check in was unique ( in a good way). It was sort of like checking in for a flight, using the self service kiosk. Super easy and we had a choice of rooms. You also make your own key(s) which I found nice.

This is the tiniest room I have ever stayed in. It's so small. I just can't explain how small it was. But  the use of space was actally very effecient. The bed was huge and extremely comfortable. TV was also large and there were many cool features. The digital art on the wall, that you choose from the wireless keypad, which controls virtually the entire room. Loved that. Loved the music selections available on the TV. Loved the shade and curtain control
Loved the awesome hot rain shower. No bathtub. Fine with me. Hotel bathtubs are a waste of space and gross!
The decor was cool. The colors were cool and in spite of the size of the room, it worked very well. I would compare this room to a room on a passenger train. But if you need a room for sleep,  sex, showering, changing clothes  What else do you need? No problem

fantastic little gym on the 20th floor with all glass.  Cool outdoor space with yoga area. It was a great little gym for a hotel Nice new treadmills and equipment.
Very cool rooftop bar. Nice cocktails, amazing views. A real gem in a big city. I would go have drinks at that bar even if I wasn;t staying at the hotel

the service was great. Lots of young friendly associates working there. Very hip, quirky decor. The place is just cool.

nice price. Clean. Modern. Cool staff, comfy bed. nice TV, Clean room. great rain shower. nice rooftop bar

at least 1 of the Elevators were broken on a few occasions thank God we were on the 4th floor and chose to walk down as it was a long wait.  Also our room wasn't actually made up (stayed 2 nights) Not a big deal. I;m not a fan of daily housekeeping especially on a short stay.

I think this place is kind of a gem. It's a 5 star hotel if you want great location next to 2 subway stations, and clean and cheap by manhattan hotel prices.  I guess something inside me prohibits me from giving a 5 rating to a budget hotel. But I will  book here wihout hesitation on my next trip to NYC

I brought my daughter here for 3 days for her 16th bday earlier this month. All the employees were friendly and helpful--except for the one thing that kept bothering me the most -- our tablet  (that controls all the settings in the room) kept freezing on us and not working properly! It was extremely frustrating having to reset it everytime we wanted to change something, whether it was the fan, lighting, tv channels, or the curtains. We called the front desk once, and actually walked downstairs to talk to an actual employee another time.  And the problem was never fixed. Regardless of our personal problems we encountered during our stay here, the hotel is a trendy, cute place, and in an awesome location right around the corner from time square. I just wish we had a little bit better service and attention in regards to our problem in our room...

The place is beautiful that I want to decorate my place like this.
The staff is supper nice and cool. I became friends with many of them.
I bring all my friends and clients there. A lot of them think I'm manager there just because I love it so much that I become so comfortable there.
They start going as well.

Stay in Times Square? Really? Trust me...DO IT! CitizenM.

Nestled in between gross tourist garbage, this hotel deserves to be found.

Staff - friendly, hip, not in your face, super helpful and cool.

Lobby - imagine the coolest living room you could ever design. Comfortable, inviting.

Cloud Bar - da view doe!

The room - small but perfect, hi tech tablet control for all amenities.

Do yourself a favor and stay at this place. And hopefully they open one on our coast soon!!

This is our second stay in NYC and we're so glad we picked a new hotel, the citizenM.
The staff is super friendly and willing to help 24/7. There's a great rooftop bar, we didn't go outside as it was freezing and icy, but I'm sure I'd appreciate (and use) it even more in the summer.
The room was clean and got cleaned every day. They even changed the sheets daily. (I'm quite picky, so cleanliness means a great deal to me).
We will come again, and definitely stay here.

I've been hearing about the Citizen M hotel's anticipated groundbreaking in Manhattan for the better part of a year... and based on what I'd come to learn from their properties in Amsterdam and London, I was like a kid waiting for Santa to shimmy down the chimney on Christmas morning. Lucky for me the fat man has finally delivered his gift of a Citizen M property just north of the chaos that is the heart of Times Square.

If you've never experienced a Citizen M, think of it as a more technicolor version of an Ace Hotel. They put a lot of emphasis on giving guests (and even those not staying at the hotel) a really cool place to hang and catch up with friends with use of their free wifi with plenty of room to kick back in their hotel lobby and mezzanine areas. Along with their central liquor and coffee bars plus a central food area to grab snacks at your heart's content... they do a great job of making it feel like you're not at a hotel, but rather at a super cool and stylish friend's loft.

As for the rooms, while I've never been to Japan, I have to imagine they channel a bit of inspiration from their space saving ingenuity. They're able to give you everything you need in a hotel stay (closets, showers, bed, desk, vanity, etc...) in what must be 200 square feet total - and somehow they're able to fit an incredibly comfortable king size bed in the room to boot.

One of the more notable amenities that sets them apart from other hotels are their in-room mood pads. They're essentially Galaxy Notebook tables that control everything in the room. Raising and closing your blinds, toggling between TV channels, setting the thermostat, creating moods with different colors and music (party, relaxing, romance, business modes, etc...), and a few more bells and whistles that will keep you entertained for hours. They're just getting started so my tablet was a bit buggy and the free movie feature hadn't yet been enabled, but once it's 100% up and running it's cool enough to set itself apart from every other lodging destination in the area.

You may not be in the market for a staycation, but do yourself a favor and prop up your laptop and enjoy their shared living quarters. It's such a cool space, it's almost hard to believe you're in Times Square at all.

Great hotel for business or leisure, just to the west of Time Square.  Not my favorite location when visiting NY on business, but I tried this property based on other reviews.  The rooms are very small yet modern and efficient (think cruise ship).  But the hotel concept is to spend minimal time in your room and if you want to "hang out", you go to the lobby area or rooftop bar.

However, don't think of sterile hotel lobbies.   CitizenM's common areas have a mixture of seating (tables, shared bench tables, bar, sofas etc), lighting is good, wifi is great and background sound is tolerable for a conversation or work.  Food is available 24/7.  The target audience is probably a millennial who might check out a W, but I found CitizenM much more pleasant (and I'm not in that age group).

The price point is pretty standard for Manhattan so don't expect a bargain.  But a different experience and if you are a solo traveler or a couple, this is a fun and friendly choice.

It is THE perfect place to stay in Manhattan for few days if you travel solo!

I explain why:
- the lobby  is alive and makes you feel that you are coming back to your very own bar/ library/ living room

- the team is young without being hipster and ready to help and to greet you anytime of the day.

- the room space is convenient for 1 and 2 suitcases with the best bed ever, 2 places to hang your clothes on and the underbed storage and the mood pad that helps you to set up the lights, tv, curtains and surf on the net.

- THE LOCATION! Basically you could go anywhere in Manhattan with any of the subway stations found within 5 minutes walk or less! 1h from JFK through airtrain+ E line. So convenient!

I knocked 1 star for the bathroom because it is just a  sink, a shower/ toilet with a curtain. No need to say that if you were to come here with someone else than you, then it is NOT going to be so discreet to do your private business if you know what i mean.

The mood pad was moody the first day so i got to use only after 24h ( they reset it)

Also the gym is very small for such a big hotel and could have been more accommodating.

Overall, i might just find out my favourite new hotel in New york.

This place is a gem right in the middle of Times Square. It is so unique in a lot of aspects.

Upon entering, there are numerous lounge couches and computer tables to just hang out.  Also in the lobby is a drink and snack bar.  By the lounge couches, is a fireplace and two flat screen tvs to watch while you relax. They also have a rooftop bar which we didn't have a chance to look at, but will check it out the next time we stay.

There technically is no front des. There are kiosks where you can check right in and create your own room keys.  The experience is sort of like checking in to a flight on kiosk. You then hold up the card to a scanner when entering the elevator and choose your floor. When you approve your room, you just hold the key card to the scanner and it unlocks the door. No more stripe swiping.

The room is small, but that is expected in any hotel in Manhattan.  The bathroom is a little tight with s toilet and a stand up rain shower sharing the space.  The thing I didn't like about the room was that the vanity and sink was located outside of the bathroom and in the main room.

There was plenty of closet space and cabinet storage under the king size bed. Room was spotless and sheets were clean. The coolest thing about the room was that the lights, blinds, clock, and tv were all controlled by a Samsung tablet that is docked on the nightstand as you arrive.  There were several presets for mood lightings to make the stay even more enjoyable.

The location could not be better (a block away from Times Square) and the staff was super friendly. I also like the lobby: the decoration is wonderful (100% eclectic). However, at the end, I think is just an average 3-star hotel with a kind of modern?cybernetic twist. The room (standard double) was pretty narrow, and the WC, a joke: super small.

I am not a fan of new technologies, so the fact that you control the room (i.e. the lights, the music, the tv, the blind) with a tablet does not impress me much... I rather don't like it. We actually had a couple of issues with the tablet. The AC/heater was horrible. Terribly slow. On the other hand, the bed is big and very comfortable. Another thing I didn't like: do not offer me a huge amount of music to hear in the TV if I don't recognize any of the artists in the list (maybe just The XX, which was included in the Pop music list... cannot imagine who was in the Indie list :S).

Do not expect a lot of extras (like in a average 3-star hotel): just shampoo, conditioner, hair drier , body lotion and not much... (what about razors? toothpaste? extra towels? shoe shiner?).

I didn't try the breakfast, so I can give my opinion.

By the way, we had a fire alarm issue in the middle of the night... I recognize this could happen even in the best 5-star hotel in NYC, but definitely it doesn't benefit my overall experience.

Moral: try it if you are crazy about new technologies, or if you are crazy about having fancy lights in the shower... otherwise, I am not convince :(

Thanks to Vitra furniture company, I was invited to the rooftop bar for an after work drink and food get together. It was a lovely bar! The design and furniture, of course ;), is modern and funky. The hotel had a sign-yourself-in concept that is great for faster service. There were many areas to sit and chat with friends or if you were to wait with your luggage. The fireplace in the main lobby was cozy and homey, which made it perfect for the colder seasons.
Taking the elevator up to the rooftop, you enter into a small lounge area... with a MOOSE. It was cool. We went on a Thursday night and it wasn't too busy that was good. Its a smaller place, so access to roof is limited.
As for the outdoor patio, it will be a great place for a few cocktails during the warmer weather. Lots of room to gather in groups along side a great view and sunset. I would definitely come again.
BONUS - that night had a great music. I still wish I bugged the bartender for the name of the playlist. ;)

It takes a lot for me to give a hotel 5 stars. This was a fantastic experience for me. My flight was delayed to New York so I had to book a room at a nearby hotel for the first night and it wasn't a pleasant experience. I was hoping this hotel would provide a better experience and it sure did!

Check-in machine can be confusing but there are employees there that will assist you right away. All the employees are extremely friendly. Forgot your computer? That's fine because the second floor has iMacs that you can use 24/7. The top floor has a gym with a balcony that you can look out of. It is beautiful to see the NYC skyline as you work out.

The rooms are fantastic. Whoever designed the rooms in this hotel was a genius. New York City hotels are notoriously known for their extremely small/tight rooms. These rooms are small but the way it was designed, allows it to look and feel spacious. Everything about the room looks and feels modern. You can control all the lights and settings in your room by a tablet that is provided. You can even change the color settings of the light. The king-size bed is clean and comfortable. Yes it is a king-size bed in a small room but once again, it is a well-designed room.

There is a mini-fridge, with two complimentary water bottles. Like mentioned below, you control the TV, the lights, air condition/heater, window blinds, and music by the Samsung tablet provided next to your bed on the nightstand. There is a small desk for you to use. The rainfall shower is relaxing, it also has a detachable shower head. The card key given to you is actually a scan card. You scan in to enter your room.

The rooms are clean, the service is nice, and the overall experience was enjoyable. There is nothing bad for me to say about this hotel.

P.S. The subway stations are all right next to the hotel. You can walk to Times Square in less than 5 minutes. The Late Show w/ David Letterman (Stephen Colbert in July) is nearby along with Times Square Church.
