The hotel employees at this establishment went above and beyond to make our stay as wonderful as possible. I had a fabulous idea to make inane requests when I was drunk and making this reservation and arrived to the hotel room covered with pictures of ducks on the walls (as requested) jahaha and apple juice waiting for us in the morning!! AMAZING! And right next to Penn Station!  Great!

The Manhattan West Hotel is just steps away from the Penn Station (literally, a block away!) - they were newly-renovated in early '14, so everything is all brand-spanking new and clean!  The hotel has only 4 floors, and features 4 different types of rooms: the Hudson Twin, the Manhattan Queen, the Empire Triple, and the NY Quadruple (cute names!)!  When you enter, the front desk/concierge is to your immediate right; checking-in/-out is a breeze, and there is also complimentary hot tea and cold/hot water cooler.  There is also a unisex bathroom in the main 'lobby,' so it is very convenient.  Their rates are extremely competitive, and really beats the other booking sites (so be sure to check their site out first!).  Making a reservation as well as calling for a confirmation was a breeze.  We had the Manhattan Queen on the 4th floor, and we loved it!  The room was SO CLEAN and decorated very chic-like. I loved that the room had hardwood floors!  The bed is extremely firm, there's a small desk/chair, a flat-screen TV with some channels, and your own private bathroom (with generous amount of towels, wash cloths, and olive oil bath products).  There's also a window unit, so you set the temp of your room to your liking.  I know that some may complain about: the size (but, space is a premium in NYC - the hubs and I had more than enough room and we were comfortable and cozy); no elevator (only 4 floors, so not a big deal - plus, you should be used to walking a lot in this city, so a few steps doesn't hurt!); outside noise-level (again, this is NYC, the city that never sleeps!  I'm sure you'll be knocked out from the day's activities; I'm a light sleeper, and I had no issue!); and, the bathroom features (placement of the sink (sink is sort of placed awkwardly next to the toilet (sort of cramped)); standing shower is a little tight; no lid on the toilet; and, no shelving to lay your toiletries) - again, all minor details and things you can overlook! The staff here are extremely friendly, very sweet, informative, and very helpful!  If you're looking for a clean, but modest place to just rest your eyes and go back out to explore the city, check this hotel out!  Think of it as a boutique-ish hotel with hostel prices!

+steps away from Penn Station (!!!)
+super friendly and helpful staff :D

This hotel was awesome! Not expensive at all, but very impressive!
The room and bathroom were immaculately clean and comfortable. The staff was incredibly friendly and accomodating.
Yes, the rooms are on the small side, but I had plenty of space for me and my stuff. If you have kids or need tons of space, check the room size first, but a lone business traveller has everything here. The room had a bed, nightstand, spacious desk, and a locker closet with 6 clothes hangers!!! (I've stayed in 5-star hotels that gave me only 2 hangers, so they MWH gets bonus points for this).
The location is PERFECT! The hotel is just two blocks from Penn Station/3 from the Subway. Great pizza, bars, restaurants and shopping are right out the hotel doorway and also in the surrounding blocks.
The area seemed safe and vibrant. I didnt feel uncomfortable even when walking home at 4 in the morning (plenty of people on the streets then still due to all the bars/clubs in the area).
I enjoyed my stay here better than a place I had stayed at in Times Square that cost twice as much. I would definitely stay here again. Highly recommended.
