A fine establishment that is centrally located in the Murray Hill Neighborhood with easy access to the bus lines.

It may be a bit more rustic to some more picky travelers but if you want a more authentic New York experience this is the place!

Staff were pretty crap but was dead cheap and the room was quite nice, no bugs at all.

I had a great experience at this hostel. Check-in is easy and there are no curfew/check in times. It also is very chic and clean and you can tell it's newly renovated. I was also presently surprised about the bathrooms. "Community bathroom" means that each floor has 4 private bathrooms with a glass-sliding door shower, toilet, and sink. So you can always get a bathroom to yourself. They also are reasonable with towel and locker key fees (linens are included).

This is a very good centrally located hostel located in the heart of Manhattan. It is in mid-town and everything nearby is a taxi cab or walk away.

The moment you go in you're greeted by the straight forward staff. They do charge extra for locks, towels, etc. NYC hostel's tend to be a little bit more expensive but this is a great priced hostel for being smack dab in Manhattan.

The place has several floors and has a centrally located staircase to traverse through the floors. There are about 2-3 shared bathrooms per floor which are nice and clean. The room's are really well kept and clean.

I have been to many hostel's in my travel and the only thing this place is missing is a nice common area w/ food and kitchen material.

To sum it up, this place has nice rooms, bathrooms, and facilities. It's a little pricey for a hostel but its well worth it for the location you're going to be at. Stay at this place for a few days (3-4 days) and move on or else expect to pay a little bit more.

The only thing I wish this place to have is a common area which is does not have.

New York Budget Inn is a hidden gem tucked away in midtown NYC. Its Great. Grand. and Wonderful. The  location couldn't be better, a bus is right outside the door and just a few stops from Penn Station and blocks from Times square. (the surrounding yummy restaurants are a plus). Outstanding customer service at the front desk. (LOVE that they incude slippers and soaps when you check in!) Oh and there are FREE computers to use in the lobby!

My first stay, I booked the double bed ensuite. It was unbelievable. For the price you pay, in midtown, my expectations were not high at all. But to my surprise... The room was great!! Nothing fancy but far from run down. Freshly painted, new carpet, and the most delicious cozy fuzzy blankets on the bed.  This single room was just what I needed after a long day galavanting around the city.

A few weeks later, I returned with several friends after yet another day of paroozing around the city and booked the 4bed share. This was great. We all had our own beds, with locker, and a sink to freshen up in the room. The shared bathrooms... which I was expecting to be dorm style, with several stalls next to each other, turned our to be a completely PRIVATE bathroom. Shower and toilet! It was great. (There were 3 like this per floor. PLENTY of space for everyone to get ready at the same time!)  Another surprise that left me very happy.

As New York Budget Inn falls under the "hostel" category.. I think it most defiantly deserved the rank of a "Boutique Hotel".
Thank you Very much for my fabulous stays.. I will most DEFINITELY return again!

Clean. Affordable (I spent $90 for a room all to myself). Exactly what I needed from a place where I just needed to sleep and take a shower.

There are 3 full bathrooms and one toilet per floor, and the full bathrooms lock, so this is far more private than other hostels I've been in.  The rooms also come with sinks, microwaves and fridges.

They also had a room at 2 AM on a Friday when I needed it.

Cons: Murray Hill is loud at night, especially on a Friday night.
There is no elevator, so I had to schlep up 4 floors. So this is very not-handicap-accessible.

Also if you want to save $5, bring a towel, as they charge for them.

Otherwise, I highly recommend it as a good place to go if you don't need anything fancy and you're not going to be spending much time in your room.

The 4 bunkbed rooms are larger and seem to be an even better deal.

Although I'm from the East Coast my last time out East was not under the best circumstances. I had to book an emergency 2 days and fly back to LA/ Not wanted to inconvenience anybody with my kooky flight times. I decided to stay at a hostel.

Now I've been to hostels all over the world. This was easily the most expensive at $50 a room. But it was also the cleanest I give them a LOT of credit being able to pull that off in Midtown. I did not stay long enough to mingle with Australians or take advantage of the MANY trips and bar specials this place provides but I can only imagine that in a different place in a different time a younger me would have had a BLAST here.

The check in guy Reuben wa super chill. We talked for hour about food. apparently theres something in Russia called a chubireki   anyway I digress.

If your in New York, this is an amazing affordable CLEAN. And I mean SUPER clean option.

I had the unadulterated pleasure of spending a week at the New York budget Inn.
The place is awesome, it's brand new, very clean, the staff is super friendly and it is located in one of the best area's in the entire city. Murray Hill has great food and bars and is right next to the subway, grand central and penn station. The price was incredibly low, especially when compared to the limited options available in great NYC locations. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable and I had blast on the pub crawl the hostel offered. Next time I am back in the city I will definitely be staying at this splendid spot again.

This place has certainly come a long way based on the earliest review. The place is clean, and I didn't see any sketchy looking people. The staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were also clean.
Every other person crashing the night seemed like a normal looking person. The only con I could think of is that it is not handicap accessible as there is no elevator. Fortunately we didn't need one.

Great solid place to go to.

This place was pricy for a hostel, but not for a hostel Downtown NYC. I stayed in a dorm room, but the two pillows, towels, slippers and soaps made me feel like it was a hotel. They have no kitchen, but dollar pizza across the street so I didn't need a kitchen, and there wasn't much of a common area to socialize but they hold events and make do. It was a good experience and I will stay again

Great hostel! Very nice staff, convenient location in midtown, and I loved that they had free mints/candy and apples. Also was a huge fan of their free water cooler and water bottles (I already had my own water bottle but I really appreciated the fact that they provided me with one).

They had good events for the guests, as well. Recommend staying here!

    Decent place!

    Pros:

    - SO CHEAP for NYC!

    - Very clean (perhaps too clean?!)

    - Sink, fridge, microwave in rooms

    - Pretty good location!

    Cons:

    - Due to the air con set up, all the noise from the street comes in to the room, if you are a light sleeper, prepare to be tired

    - Common area is SUPER small and the TV is usually REALLY loud which makes it difficult to socialise with people.

This place is the four seasons of hostels,it is perfectly situated in manhattan in waking distance of bars and restaurants on 3rd ave and 34th st walking distance to empire st building and a block from the 6 metro on 33rd St,my bro and I had a twin private shared bathroom and it was super comfy the beds, plus they make you're beds everyday also @ check in they give you sandals, shampo, soap and conditioner in a packet, the wifi is great cause it's one for each floor, and we walked to time square and to washington square with ease and super safe, they sale one dll pizza slice right across the st,I've stayed in other hostels in different cities including NYC in 09 and this is the best, also hafif a receptionist went above and beyond with an Issue we had and made everything better thank you, definitely check it out

Great hostel for a considerable price. Remember that you are staying in NYC and everything is expensive so the rooms are great for the price and location. The A/C in the room works like a champ sometimes I have to turn it down a bit. I can only speak for the double bed room which came with a sink, microwave and a mini fridge!!!

Last time I stayed in Manhattan I stayed at a really crappy hostel close to Harlem. This made that I had very low expectations about this hostel as well. Gosh, I was positively surprised when we arrived after a long flight from Europe. This hostel has 24hrs reception, SUPER friendly staff (shout out to the super nice man downstairs who helps guests with bags and keeps an eye of the breakfast!), the cleanliness and free breakfast from DUNKIN' DONATS! The breakfast coffee was delicious, the small donuts as well, but VERY sugary. What's also great about this hostel is the free wifi which is very stable and fast, I had no problem with backing up my photos to Dropbox, etc.

The rooms were good. We booked the cheapest double room, so our expectations were that it was gonna be tiny (after reading other reviews), but it wasn't! We easily fit our two giant bags on the floor. The air conditioning in the room was working flawlessly and was easy to configure. There was even a TV in the too with several major channels. The cleaner also did a fantastic job with both the bathrooms (which gets cleaned twice a day I think) and the rooms which got vacuumed every day. Unfortunately there was no mirror in our room, but it looked like it was supposed to be one there (there were some plugs in the wall), so if you are lucky there maybe is one. We stayed on the fifth floor, and without an elevator and steep stairs it was pretty exhausting even for us young and fairly fit people to walk up and down two or three times a day.

The location of the hostel couldn't be any better. Just a block from the Empire State and the Chrysler Building, across the street from a 99 cent pizza place, and around the corner are several restaurants and nice pubs (check out Cask Bar + Kitchen!).

To summarize... Thanks to the hostels AWESOME locations, SUPER FRIENDLY staff, that they have a water fountain where you can refill your water bottles for free (no wasting money on water!), the good wifi, the number of toilets/showers (so there is basically never a line to the bathrooms), the good price for Manhattan, and the comfortable beds, this hostel has easily deserved its five star rating from me.

Oh, and a massive plus is that they sell small and handy adapters in the reception for your electrical stuff, for only $3.

*Related to my Electric Zoo review.

I stayed here for Electric Zoo. Duh. Anyways, I was looking all around for hotels near the ferry, and this one came up in multiple different searches. The price is excellent, even when a friend and I share a triple (we didn't mind paying half each for the 3rd person). The people at the front desk are extremely helpful and friendly, and everything is done rather quickly and effectively. The rooms are very cosy (rather cold when we got there) and very neat. The lockers are useful and the bathrooms are well taken care of. With the restaurant downstairs (separate), Budget Inn has an excellent location and excellent accommodations for a rather well-sought price. I highly advise anyone to stay here for any reason.

See you this upcoming August! #EZOO6
