I liked it at the Lucerne....it's not extravagant, but cute and cozy.  The staff was really nice and it's conveniently located to a bunch of stuff.  :)

Decided to stay in a hotel rather than crash on friends couches during a weekend in NYC, and Lucerne was perfect.  It's not trendy or luxury, but it's far nicer than most bland chain hotels, and the rates are highly affordable for NYC.  UWS location is close to several subways lines, the park, Lincoln Center, H&H, Zabars, Levain Bakery, and other nice neighbhorhood restaurants and bars.

The Lucerne surprised me, although I shouldn't have been at the rate.  It is well located on the Upper West Side, with respectable rooms that feel well made.  The turndown service was excellent, and the bed is comfortable, although they don't use a fitted bottom sheet, which is a pet peeve of mine.  However, for the quick traveler, it is an excellent hotel.

This is a nice hotel, with quaint, cozy rooms.  The location on 79th and Amsterdam is great.  It's surrounded by great places to eat, is near the subway, but isn't touristy.

The Lucerne Hotel is a clean, well run, turn-of-the-century brownstone hotel located on the Upper West Side. I believe, years ago,  it was used as dorm rooms for the Barnard girls. Anyway,  I stayed here by default due to my favorite UWS hotel (I like staying closer to the park) being totally booked up. I guess the caveat is... this is a budget hotel so don't stay if you have to over pay.

The Lucerne is a solid boutique-style hotel.  Staff was very friendly.  My room was clean, cozy and equipped with the essentials (i.e., flat-screen lcd, wifi, comfy bed).  All in all, a good value for the money.  Send your parents here when they visit.

Love this hotel and will stay again. Friendly, accomodating and polite staff, including the doormen and housekeeping. Beautiful decor, respectable, clean. Room had a safe, no mini fridge, which most hotels offer at this price, wifi, heater and a/c, and a nice clean bathroom.  Location is fabulous, wine bar across the street, excellent restaurants, a couple blocks from Central Park, the Met, Natural History Museum, and the subway stop is one block away.

I thoroughly enjoyed this hotel,  The location is great with easy subway access downtown and busses across town through the park.  The upper west side feels like a real neighborhood with good and reasonably priced restaurants all in walking distance. We stayed for a week and felt taken care of by the desk, the concierge and the doormen.  We'll be back!

My company puts me up here whenever I travel to NYC.  I like this hotel.  It's a nice boutique-type place with pretty rooms and flat screen tvs, although not as nice as the Kimpton hotels.  The sheets are high thread count and soft, the towels are plentiful, the toiletries are good quality, and the coffee in the room is good.

The front desk staff is polite and helpful and the location is great and an easy walk to my office.  I love the neighborhood and it's always a pleasant stay.

I wish I could give 4.5 stars.  You simply can't beat the location of this hotel--a short block to the subway and a long block to the Museum of Natural History.  The room was small but clean and the staff was friendly.  The only problem we had was that the housekeeper kept taking away our cups and not replacing them.  I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Even when they screw up, they make it right.  We stayed 5 nights for our 25th wedding anniversary.  Adequately large suite.  My only complaint is the awful sofa; bad color and uncomfortable.  Bed was very good.  The maid decided to toss out papers we'd left on the couch---which included a small art catalogue, some postcards, email addresses on bits of note paper, information we needed, a coupon for parking reduction and other things we were saving.  What ever possessed her to throw out things we'd left when we usually had a wastebasket full of paper we didn't want?!
There was nothing the very gracious front desk manager could do to replace what was lost.  However, he did give us a reduction on the room and let me use his office computer to get some of what had been tossed.
They handled the problem well, which is what a good hotel should do.
And I can't find words to compliment the concierge---I think her name is Liz---enough.  She knows her city, knows how to give help without being overbearing, and was wonderful at getting us into a popular restaurant with last-minute reservations.
After searching for a hotel we like, we're making the Lucerne our place to stay in New York.  It's comfortable and quiet---and the staff (except for that one maid) is top-knotch.  The only reason I can't give  them 5 stars is because the maid should never have tossd out our things, the sofa is awful, and the lobby leaves much to be desired.

I love the Upper West Side, and this hotel is close to some of the best little restaurants and bakeries (Levain's cookies, anyone?) It's within easy walking distance to Lincoln Center.

The rooms are incredibly spacious, and the staff is friendly.

The only remotely off-putting thing is the really loud, really early '80s soft rock/love songs blaring in the common areas (which only gave me flashbacks to junior high dances.)

My experience with the Lucerne is from baby sitting regularly for one couple who used to stay here exclusively and we were friends I did not meet them through the baby sitting agency. I was the only person they trusted with their children. I used to baby sit in between jobs at hotels and I have been in most of the city's hotels.
They loved the Lucerne. They are former New Yorkers who had to leave New York to raise a family due to the  cost of living here. They used to visit frequently until they had too many children to  afford to come to the city any more.
They loved the Upper West side and felt the Lucerne had the feeling of an Upper West side apartment building and the staff was like family.
It did not seem like a hotel to me but more like an apartment building where I would visit friends. The area is great! There is Zabar's, Fairway,  H and H Bagels and Murray's Sturgeon shop. There are also many wonderful museums, and Central Park.
The style of the hotel and furniture is not really my style. I prefer modern but if you are on a budget it is a good choice!

Great hotel for those who don't require a trendy hotel with lots of bells and whistles.  The location on the Upper West Side can't be beat.  Our room was on the small side, but very clean and had everything we needed (once we requested the complimentary coffee maker).  The inside rooms lack a view, but they make up for that with absolute silence, a rarity in NYC.  And the downstairs restaurant, Nice Matin, was unexpectedly excellent. Try this place if you want a comfortable pied-a-terre in one of NY's great neighborhoods.

I go to NYC 1-3 times a year and almost always stay at the Lucerne.

Why? Staff is friendly and helpful (and seems to have pretty low turnover - I've seen a few of the same people for years). Rooms are reasonable in size (for NYC) and clean. Prices are consistent with NYC - not cheap, but fairly reasonable.

But it's the location that really does it for me. Upper West Side? You can't beat it! Lots of great restaurants and bars nearby for breakfast, lunch, or dinner - and some decent shopping.

Very good location, especially if you're a fan of the park. We arrived at noon and were offered a room early. I asked for a view and was told we'd have to wait until 4:00. They kindly took our luggage and we said we'd wait. We came back at 4:15 and were told they we checking the room. We waited in the lobby until ten of five when we were offered the same room they'd offered at noon.  We got another room but it was just o.k. We asked for wine glasses and were told the ones we'd seen for another guest were only for a special guest.  In the a.m. We awoke and looked to make coffee (a yelp review complimented the hotel for Keurig coffee in rooms) No such coffee. Going out to buy some, I asked in the lobby why no coffee. The concierge and I learned from the front desk coffee was not offered in the double bed rooms.
Our room was clean and convenient and the shower was good. Was I impressed by the service or delighted? No.

WARNING: expect unexpected charges on your credit card

Apparently the hotel staff has some communication issues with Agoda, the company who does the billing. Something got lost in the process, and they couldn't find one of our two reservations. Stuff happens, but how they handled it was pretty awful. The lady at the desk (I think her name was Sarah) acted like we didn't pay, no apologies were offered and they made us to hang out in the lobby without reassuring us that everything will be resolved. Once they cleared with Agoda, I had to vocally express my concerns about the staff not handling this situation professionally, after which the clerk sarcastically said: I think we did handle it the right way. I told him that I don't recall at least an apology for inconvenience, and he sarcastically responded with: "Oh I am sorry, you have a good day sir". The tone with which he said it clearly indicated the hotel's lack of respect for their customers. We had four people in our group (2 rooms), and everybody was shocked by it.

The rooms were nice, small but clean. The TV in our room didn't work, it seems cable was off. The water bottle in the room had a label on it that it costs $6.75 to drink. OK, not touching that. Imagine my surprise when the next day after we checked out my credit card was charged $21 for no apparent reason! I have yet to follow up with them on it, but the fact they do it is outrageous. After the incident upon checking in I can't help but think they try to rob foreigners (we had 2 visiting foreigners in our group, and I suspect the staff took us all for foreigners).

My parents stay here most of the time when they visit New York.  It's a great location on the Upper West Side and is comfortable, clean, well-run, and well-maintained.   Not a 5-star-er, but catches the charminess (which is different than charm) of the neighborhood very well.  Very beautiful pre-war building that could be historic one day.

However, as with most New York spaces, the rooms are fairly small yet the prices are still high, though not Times Square high.  Only other real hotel option nearby in the UWS is the Excelsior, which is right across from the Museum of Natural History Hayden Planetarium.

    Excellent New York Hotel.

Shockingly Large Rooms and Bathrooms (for NYC)
    Well lit, Clean Hallways
    Friendly, Helpful Staff
    Great Price
    Comfortable Beds

Wow..this is a great location. The UWS is packed with places to go and things to do, all of which are within walking distance of this hotel. Its no Ritz but its definitely comparable to any major brand hotel in the country.

Honestly though, my favorite part of the hotel was the view from my window. We were on the 11th floor, facing 80th St.(?). It was amazing to see in all the windows and the rood tops and to feel like NYC was happening right outside where we were staying. It was almost like we had our own little NYC apartment :D

Somehow an empty chicken McNugget box appeared in our room, on the floor.  We did not visit a McDonalds on our trip, and the McNugget box was not there when we checked in.  What???  Anyway, the rest of the stay was great, except the room was about the size of my elbow.  I didn't have any issues with sound, but that could be because I had earplugs (my traveling partner snored).  Oh, free wine and snacks on Tuesdays and Thursdays, I think.

Clean, comfortable and great staff!  We stayed at the Lucernce while in NY for business.  Our room was a really good size for NYC, very clean and the bed was very comfortable. All the staff we encountered were very pleasant and helpful. Bonus was the good sized fitness room b/c we didn't get to run outside due to the rain. Overall a great experience.  I would definitely recommend giving this place a try if you want to stay in the Upper West side.

Possibly the worst customer service l have ever experienced. The bellmen were nice and the restaurant downstairs is lovely. However, the staff are incredibly rude and unhelpful. After going to bed around 10 pm after a long day, I was woken up around 1am by the radio alarm going off. It was impossible to turn off without unplugging and triggered a migraine. I spoke to the staff about my experience and was met with cold shoulders and rolled eyes. Additionally, I left my bags with them upon checking out and when I went to retrieve them they refused to give them back. I had to track down a bellman and ask for his assistance. When one of the concierges noticed my displeasure at their ridiculous lack of service, she sarcastically asked if anything was wrong. They refused to let us speak to the general manager as well and laughed at our complaints. Not the way to run the hotel. Please fire the front desk staff and get rid of the moldy smell in the rooms.

OK - disclaimer: I stayed here in spring of 2010, but am just getting around to writing this review because I booked another stay here for this spring, and I thought geez, I should give The Lucerne some props.

This hotel has a lovely staff, a great location (I  love theUWS, I lived here a million years ago and it still feels like home). The only reason it does not get 5-stars is because of the soundproofing issue. Okay, every, and I mean EVERY NYC hotel I have stayed in has sound issues, I guess it is prohibitively expensive to properly insulate or something. And I am a freak about noise, so it means I have to sleep with earbuds (ouch!) to drown out the snoring, lovemaking, TV next door. So my 1-star deduction as an act of anarchy. To win the fight for a quiet room.

Very clean (again, I am a freak about this, too), and lovely bath products.

The room is a normal size based on NYC standards = mi nature, so I can't dock The Lucerne for that. I mean seriously: the property value and taxes must be so prohibitive, of COURSE hoteliers want to maximize their rentable space. That is why NYC is a vertical city.

I highly recommend this hotel. I love that I can walk to Zabar's for bagels  (do not tell me that H&H is better, it is not and they are rude and they have crappy orange juice), and the MoNH, and the Park, and the subway is RIGHT THERE.

Also, they offer really good seasonal deals: I always book directly through them and have never paid full price.

Let me start by saying that actually this hotel generally deserves probably 4 stars.  It's a great location and the rooms are fine. The restaurant next door (Nice Matin) is a great spot for brunch or dinner or just a drink by the bar.

    So why one star?

My mother, uncle and friends were visiting from Ireland recently and I recommended the Lucerne.  On the first night at 11pm when they were deadly asleep from jet-lag the front desk called the room to tell them something unimportant about a receipt. At 11pm!  My mother couldn't go back to sleep and was exhausted the whole next day.

The real problem happened two days later.  My uncle asked the front desk to recommend a good tour of New York.  Instead of telling them to get the regular tours that run from Times Square the guy on the desk gave them info on a private tour and booked it for them.  This private tour involved a ramshackle bus with no springs and a "tour guide" who knew nothing and kept telling them about old girlfriends he used to have in the various locations they visited.  For this they were charged $50 each. they tried to go back to the hotel 30 mins early until my mother questioned that.  So they drove around a bit more to use up the time.

This was clearly a scam.  My mother and uncle are 70+ so I assume they felt they could be easily scammed out of fifty bucks each.

When they later complained to the desk they were told that the hotel takes no responsibility for the info they have at the desk or the people who run tours. They just pass on the info.  No apology and no refund.  Just disinterest.

So, unfortunately, although it's a good hotel, I can't forgive the crappy treatment my family received.

I just stayed here this February and it was, overall, a good stay. When you stay at this hotel you are not in the thick of it, which is nice. The staff is alright. It's my opinion the door man thinks he works in a fancier hotel than he does. I felt like he wanted a tip every time he opened the door. He even mumbled under his breath once when he opened the door for us sans tip...which lets be honest, makes me want to tip you less when you catch me a taxi or carry my luggage 3 feet...
The room was very clean and not that small, not by New York standards or even normal hotel standards. The only thing it was missing was a mini fridge. No big deal.
The restaurant downstairs is ok for room service but not the best spot in the neighborhood.

The positives - Location is fantastic--just a short walk from my favorite part of Central Park (the lake), and very close to the subway.  Rooms are clean, bathrooms nice, beds comfortable.

The negatives - I found the staff to be pretty unfriendly overall.  If you don't specify when you're booking, you may get a room that overlooks 79th St., and no matter how high you are (I was on the 10th floor), the street noise is pretty disruptive.  The rooms are VERY small, especially if you've got two double beds.

    4.5 STAR REVIEW!!

    Great location.
    EXCEPTIONAL staff.
    Very clean.
    Amazing beds.
    Nice lighting.
    Good views.

I came to this place around 10/11am and though check in was at 3pm, they allowed us to check in at that time -- yayy!  Our room was on the 10th floor and in the corner ... it wasn't as spacious as other New York rooms I've stayed in, but we did have an extra bed sitting in the room =P.  The bathroom was very pretty, and we enjoyed our view very much, especially since the sun shined through all weekend long.

The staff was ALWAYS very kind and courteous.  They never once forgot to open the doors for us, ask us about our day/how we were doing, or ask us if a cab was needed -- so attentive.

The only reason .5 star is missing is because the price is quite high, but for that kind of place and service, I can see why.

Also keep in mind that the location is FANTASTIC!  You are a couple blocks away from subway stations, bus lines, amazing restaurants, street/flea markets, central park, museums ... I mean c'mon, this place has it all.

Prior to our trip to New York in early June 2014, I researched hotels extensively. After hours of looking at options, I kept noticing that the Lucerne was always rising to the top of reviews that I was reading.  So we elected to stay there for four days and found it to be perfect and exactly what we hoped for.  First of all, the location was excellent. Upper west side, just two blocks west of Central Park right by the Museum of Natural History.  Very good restaurants to choose from in the area including at the hotel.  The building is in great condition, very clean with tasteful interior design.  The rooms were really comfortable with great beds and plenty of amenities to welcome us.  The staff is polite and helpful - from the time I spoke to them on the phone to when we arrived, the Bellman, the front desk, the room maids, they were all friendly and courteous.  My friend and I kept remarking to each other every day that we scored on this place.  I tip my hat to the Lucerne and all their staff. Well done, and keep up the good effort, we'll be back for sure.

Just stayed here with my parents for a quick trip to New York. LOVED the location. We didn't get to use the subway (mom's not a fan) but there was plenty to do and eat within walking distance so that was never a worry.

Turn down service made me feel like a princess!
Wine served to the guests with cheese and crackers? AWESOME.

As soon as we arrived, the doorman already had our bags taken care of and we were able to quickly get in and checked in.

We had to check out before we were able to leave town, and they were able to hold our luggage while we were busy.

The rooms were an interesting set up, but I liked having a "dressing room" with another TV and desk/sofa so one person could watch the news, while someone took a nap or read.

My only sad face to this was the TV reception was AWFUL. So fuzzy. Obviously we were not in New York to watch TV, but watching the news in the morning was downright difficult.

The Lucerne was a 3.5 star experience.

The lobby is nice, but old. They offer free wine and cheese in the evenings, which was fun. The concierge was very helpful.

I saw two rooms on the same floor and they varied. One was fairly sizable and the other was so small you couldn't pull your rolling suitcase through the space between the foot of the bed and the tv console.

The maid came at strange hours, including once at 4pm to clean the room--which is far too late in the day in my opinion.

As another note, the hotel is linked to the restaurant Nice Matin, and at check-in you receive a 15% off coupon to dine there so that's pretty cool.

I stayed at the Lucerne overnight for my birthday, and it was the most pleasant NYC hotel experience I've ever had. I booked a 2-double bed suite on the eighth floor.

First of all, the reviews here that claim the rooms are small are misleading, and I wonder if they've been in other NYC hotel rooms before. Compared to others I've been in Manhattan (independent, boutique, and chain hotels) this was very spacious. Both rooms had a good amount of space to maneuver around, and I never felt cramped.

The staff was extremely helpful and courteous; I had no trouble checking in or out, the doormen were always helpful and offered to hail a taxi whenever I left the building. As I was checking out they offered to hold my luggage for me in a storage room in case I wanted to sightsee for the day free of my suitcase. I never used the concierge but whenever I was in the lobby they were helping guests plan their itineraries. The only complaint I had was I had forgotten to place a "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door before I went to bed, and the housekeeping came in at 9AM to clean. I thought that was a rather early time for them to start their rounds, especially since check-out isn't until noon.

The rooms were lavish and much more luxurious than I was expecting for the price. The bedding and furniture were sumptuous--a bit on the tacky side--but clearly high-quality. The bathroom is spotless and I felt more comfortable taking a bath in there than in my own house! There are even bathrobes for the guests to use, and a handy guest umbrella in case a tourist hasn't planned for rain. The cable TV has spotty reception but that wasn't an issue for me--it was just nice to see two brand-new flat screens in each room. One view (I had three windows! Three!) was of the alleyway and into other guests' rooms, which wasn't ideal, but the view of Broadway and (just beyond that) the Hudson made up for it.

I was extremely pleased with my stay here and would love to come back whenever I am in Manhattan.

My friend stayed here while visiting the Upper West Side!  The staff were extremely professional and helpful, the lobby and rooms are very nice, and the neighborhood is really convenient and safe!  There are bunch of really good restaurants and shopping in the neighborhood.  We found them on Orbitz and the pricing was competitive for Manhattan.  Great choice for anyone!

Good clean smallish hotel. The service in lobby and at front desk is terrific. Location great. My room has two beds and ample space but bathroom is definitely on the smaller side. Decor is ok but feels as though if is from a time gone by. There is a somewhat noisy ice machine on the second floor but if is far enough away not to be annoying.

Can't beat the location if your going to the UWS. It's close to Central Park, Museum of Natural History, Riverside Park, and some great places to chow down in. Stayed here for a weekend and caught a concert at the Beacon Theater. Great service!!!!

The best thing about the Lucerne is the location. If you are planning to spend your time at the AMNH, Central Park, etc. this is the perfect place because it is within just a few blocks. The area is safe and the doors are well-staffed. Service was polite and efficient. The fitness center was very basic, but it's likely few people come to the upper West Side to work out. The hotel restaurant was OK but nothing exceptional; there are eating options available everywhere though. My room was on the second floor and there was constant street noise. Furnishings were stately and leaned toward formal. I was pleased to see a Keurig in my room but would have appreciated greater variety k-cup options as well as real creamer. Dried creamer in a room that costs approximately $500 per night is not cool. The two biggest complaints I had though related to the shower and the air conditioner. Apparently the shower could have benefited from some silicone caulk because every time I took a shower water leaked at the bottom of the shower glass onto the floor. The result was water running all over the bathroom floor. Also, the air conditioner was extremely noisy and did a very poor job of cooling--it almost seemed as though the temperature was pre-set and so no amount of adjusting the controls had any impact. The result was a warm and humid room. However, all these items are a trade off for the convenience of the location, so it is a place I would stay at again.

I live on the Upper West Side and chose The Lucerne for a recent visit from my parents and nephews.  I was also staying with them, so we chose a small suite.  The bedroom in the suite was like most you see in hotels, with two double beds, and off of that room was the living area with sofa-bed, which I slept on.  The bathroom was accessible from the living area.

Overall we were very pleased with our stay.  The room was exceptionally clean and, despite overlooking 79th Street, very quiet (the benefit of an old building with thick walls).  The building didn't have an old feeling at all, however, as the hotel recently underwent a renovation.  Everything looked and felt bright and comfortable.

The only reason I give my experience 4 stars instead of 5 (4.5 would be more apt) is because the TV reception was poor, and because the unfolded sofa-bed blocked 90% of the path between the bedroom and the bathroom.  When my father got up to relieve himself in the middle of the night, he tripped over the corner of the mattress and nearly faceplanted.  His cursing woke me up.

So A decided to have a central park picnic for Shakespeare in the Park for her birthday and I looked everywhere for a hotel that would be close but not too close, and pretty but not too pretty so that we can do our thing and not bite everyone's head off... all of this for a (i hope) fairly decently price... so although the mixed reviews on yelp - we decided to go with Lucerne.

it was perfect! Nicely situated, great location and most importantly, a quite comfortable suite. (A suite for under 400$ I will totally take it!) Not to mention the reception manager / concierge was super super cute!

"A" loved the old fashioned decor (I have to admit I felt it was trying to be goth meets grandma which confuses me) but I cannot complain too much because the space was nice, the beds comfortable and since we only spent the night sleeping in the room .. it fit the bill.

Brunch at Nice Matin was luvrly too... ;- )

Excellent hotel! I am used to hotel rooms in NY being small but the Lucerne has good sized and very comfortable rooms. The staff are friendly and it's in a good location. Service at the breakfast cafe that adjoins the hotel can be a little slow but this was a minor point. I would definitely come back.

Very nice stay at the Lucerne. It was an overnighter...Sunday to Monday, and I got a good deal. This hotel is a boutique hotel with a lot of old-school charm. You can tell its an older building but they keep it in great condition. Everything was clean, the room was a decent size and immaculate. Service at check in/out was friendly. The best part- it is situated in a perfect location....a block from the Museum of Natural History, two blocks from Central park, surrounded by restaurants and bakeries, and easy access from the West Side Highway @ 79th street.

This is a very nice upscale hotel.

Our room was nice and a good size. The beds were very comfortable. The free Keurig Coffee, as well as Keurig Teas, was very nice.

The shower was nice as well.

Really, everything about it was nice.

Once thing I will say, it is Manhattan expensive.

I wouldn't stay at the Lucerne again. We ended up here at the last minute while getting some work done on our apt. First the good - the staff is courteous and friendly, and they provide Gilchrist and Soames toiletries. The bad - our room (a single room with two double beds) was very dark, and the decor was dark also. The room (and bathroom) have seen their best days at least a decade or so ago. The bedroom and bathroom were NYC-small, but not horribly so. The ugly - the ancient air conditioning unit was not only loud but wholly inefficient. The lobby and hallway were cool so when we opened the door to the stifling room, the bellboy immediately said: Let me turn on your air. As I watched him fiddle with the AC unit, I realized he didn't end up doing anything. When I inquired, he said the air was already on at max cool and max fan. Doh! We ended up cracking the window, which on the fifth floor had no screen and no bars. It was literally an open hole out and we had kids with us. Hard to imagine that's code?! Overall the hotel reminded us of the old hotels we had stayed in after the Berlin Wall came down in East Germany. Way past its prime.

Great place to stay in NYC. Far enough away from the hubbub. Close enough you can get there. Nice room. Nice staff. Would
Stay here again in a New York minute.

Very good but not fantastic. Ideally situated if you're going to Columbia or other upper west-side attractions. Rooms are smallish. The attached restaurant is very good but pricey. While you'll feel you should deserve the ritz with the prices that they charge, you will get a reasonably furnished room that is small by global standards but fair by NYC standards. You won't be amazed but it's just a bed, right?

My parents recently got upgraded to a suite, and I'm really impressed with it. It's comfortable, contains two TVs, and has a nice view looking north, up Amsterdam. The people who work in the lobby are also very helpful. This is now one of my parents' favorite hotels in the area. I can see why!

Room is pleasant enough and relatively clean. However the heat broke down and hasn't been working.  This is understandable but the front desk had had a very unhelpful attitude, which was to just ask us repeatedly to wait.  With a 2 year old in mid-November past midnight, this isn't the easiest task.

    Otherwise the hotel is fine.

Great great great place to stay in NYC! It's right next to the subway, several major bus lines, a pharmacy, and Central Park! The decoration is classy and sophisticated. The room is clean. They even have great shampoos and conditioners! All the staff I've talked to during the four nights' stay were exceptional and very helpful! This place made me want to stay in NYC longer. I'll definitely book it again whenever I visit NYC the next time!

This hotel is a gem. It is located in a quiet  residential area on the Upper West Side. We stayed in a suite which was a great way to experience what  it is like to live there.  The hotel was quiet and clean and housekeeping staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant attached is very pleasant and the food is quite good. All in all, we will book this hotel again next time we decide to have a staycation in NYC

We went up for the NY Marathon.  This hotel is in a fantastic location, rooms were nice, people were always cleaning and keeping up with the guests.  Rarely did we have to open the doors for ourselves while entering or exiting.  Everything was comfortable and the restaurant attached to the hotel is great!  Service was good on both ends and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.  Definitely hope to plan a return trip again.

Property - Well maintained, clean, Quiet, A bit old but a very nice property

    Employees - Polite and Professional

Room - Pretty big by NYC standards, Very clean, Came with a refrigerator, A microwave and Cutlery and A very comfortable bedding

Location - It's a bit away from all the city noise. Plenty of restaurants to choose from within a couple of blocks. Walking distance to Natural history museum and Central park.

I had called the hotel a week in advance and asked for two separate double beds (I travelled with my husband, a seven year old son and I am pregnant). I did not want to get kicked by my son in his sleep :-).  My other requests were that we needed a refrigerator in our room, our room be away from the elevator shaft and preferably a City-view room. The hotel staff honored all of my requests and they even gave us a bigger and better corner room on the 11th floor.

    Thank you Lucerne!

We had a pleasant stay at this hotel and the staff were nice and professional. However, I did find the night crew more friendly.  I feel bad for not catching their names but the lady at the front desk and the bell hop guy were just awesome!   They always greeted us with bright smiles!

We did get sick on this trip and ordered room service every morning. It took about 30 - 40 mins....pretty normal.  We enjoyed our meals up until the last day (Monday).  Food was undercooked a bit but hey, 4 out 5, can't really complain.

The hotel will hook you up with coupons for the Nice Matin and Coppola's.  Nice matin is adjacent to the hotel and Coppola's is across the street.

You have a 24 hour drug store across the street and it's walking distance to the museum, subway and park. I would definitely stay here again. It's quiet at night and I find that a huge plus.

Our family stayed here for 8 days while visiting NYC on vacation
We had a great view on the 9th floor
Opted for a double/double which was roomy for the four of us - the extra room with the kitchenette was helpful as we shopped and bought plenty of good eats!
The hotel restaurant was delightful for breakfast on our second rainy morning
Our room blew a fuse in the morning  and the staff came right up to fix it
Great location for all our touring.

Spent three nights here with our two kids (ages 5 and 8) and found it very comfortable and convenient to the sites we are interested in - Natural History Museum, Central Park, with most everything else easily reached by subway.

We booked a Superior Queen Suite and it was adequate for our needs. Small "kitchenette" was simply a microwave, mini fridge, Keurig, and dishes/cutlery (no kitchen sink) but that was enough to make breakfasts and snacks easy. We brought in fresh bagels two mornings (couple of good shops within a two minute walk) and went to the attached restaurant, Nice Matin, one morning for a special breakfast.

For a hotel in Manhattan, our room (624) was incredibly quiet. We heard next to nothing from other rooms or the street. Beds were comfortable and we enjoyed having the tiny sitting room to accommodate the four of us (kids could watch TV in one room and we could close the door for some quiet).

Door staff was always there and ready to help. Lots of restaurants right around the neighborhood - both fancy and affordable. Enjoyed a great dinner at 5 Napkin Burger (7 min walk), quick/cheap lunch at Pizza by Grolla (directly across Amsterdam Ave), birthday dinner at Coppola's (directly across W. 79th) from hotel. Others as well, but these are the standouts.

Like anyplace in NYC, I feel like I'm paying an arm and a leg, but in this case it was worth it. We'll be back.

I stayed here for a week in October 2013. I had an excellent stay...rooms were nice, clean and the staff were really friendly. Great location, close to Central Park and the subway is only a block away. I would definitely stay here again on my next visit.

Side note, the artist Banksy put up a piece on W79th between Amsterdam and Broadway.

great hotel in the upper west side. You literally have a Duane Reade across the street for any last minute or emergency amenities.

The hotel hugs the corner of 79th and Amsterdam. Short walking distance to awesome places to eat such as: insomnia cookies, sugar and plumm, shake shack, andy's deli, bagel talk, Freddie and Pepper's Pizza, Levain, Blossom Du Jour, Peacefood Cafe and many others. You also have Central Park a couple blocks away as well. Close to the 1 train, or you can walk down to 72nd for the 2 and 3.

Hotel was clean and spacious enough (definitely bigger than the Hudson). All staff were friendly, opened doors and answered my questions with a smile. I did not get to try the adjacent restaurant, Nice Matin, but it was always packed. The hotel provided coupons for the restaurant as a nice incentive.

I opted for a smaller room with a Queen size bed, and we had a TV, closet with hangers/safe/ironing board and iron and extra pillows. From the other reviews there are bigger rooms with a fridge and dishes.

I definitely will be staying here again. great value for the location.
