I LOVED this place.  I'm amazed by Heather C's negative review.  The price was excellent, the room was kept spotless, the staff could not have been more pleasant and accomodating.  This place is nice, and very safe.  There was free wireless internet in our room, as advertised.  There is construction on 2d Avenue, but we were placed at the back of the hotel, away from the noise, and did not notice it.  Plus, we were upgraded from a studio to a one-bedroom suite, without asking!  All units have kitchens, which is why we picked this hotel.  It's in a residential neighborhood, so everything you need is within a block:  groceries, drug store, deli's, etc.  Subway two blocks away, bus one block.  Note that when you book for 7 days or more, the already-reasonable price is discounted 25%.  It was like having our own apartment in NYC and we can't wait to go back!   BTW, we brought a number of NYC-dwelling friends over to show it off to them, and they were all bown away.

One of my favorite hotels in Manhattan.  Can not wait to check out their Istanbul location.

I'm suprised this place isn't more popular. I stayed here with a group of friends at the end of the summer. We had a two bedroom suite (1 master bedroom, 1 room with 2 doubles). Large living room, full kitchen, dining table, balcony. We had six people staying with us and there was more than enough room for everyone. Honestly, the room was clean and although we didn't have too much interaction with service, they seemed nice enough. It really was a huge room which is so rare in NYC, and we didn't dish out penthouse-prices. It's more of an apartment style hotel then a normal hotel, but really there was nothing to complain about. The master bedroom had a large comfy king and it's own private bathroom. There was another bathroom out in the living room. I would definitely come back here, and definitely recommend it for larger groups of people.

We arrived in NYC before our room was ready, so we asked the desk to hold our bags for us, while we went and met our friends for lunch.

During lunch they called to let us know our room was ready and we could come to check in when ever we were ready. We arrived back at the hotel to check in and quickly drop our bags off in the room before going back out into the city.

They had already moved our stuff up to our room, which I think was so nice.

We were so shocked by the size of the room. We had a full extended stay sweet (paying $169 a night). We had plenty of closet space, a full size living room, kitchen (stocked with glassware, plates, silveware, coffee maker, coffee, fridge, stove, ice maker etc). A TV in the bedroom, as well as the living room.

It was all the conveinances of home that you would need while away.

My only complaint is that the walls were bare, and it seemed so stark and empty. I guess that is because those who use it for extended stays maybe decorate in their own style with thier own things.

I know its a weird thing to be bothered by, but it was kind of depressing how bare it seemed in the decor. We had a great view of the East River and looking downtown though.

This was conveinant to most of the Upper East Side, and only a block from our friends apartment, so it's a great location.

We stayed there for 5 days in a one bedroom suite. (It was the recommended hotel for the wedding we attended.) All of the service prior to arriving was excellent. I called ahead about an early checkin (we arrived via redeye) and was assured we may not be able to check in when we arrived but should be able to by 11am.
When we arrived we were given the run around and an attitude about this request. In the end we were allowed to check at 2pm.
Similar situation when leaving for a late checkout.
The hotel itself was very clean. The suite offered efficencies that was helpful for a long trip. I'd probably stay there again due to the cleanliness and great location, but not a huge fan.

I hesitate writing this review as I have mixed feelings about this property.
Certainly, the staff gets 5 stars. Everyone was more than helpful and friendly, especially Dennis at the front desk.

However, when the cab pulled up to the Hotel and couldn't let us out in front because of the extensive construction on 2nd ave. I got a pit in my stomach. Our studio was adorable and perfect for a couple so we immediately settled in, unpacked, and were set for a 6 night stay. Well, at 7:30 AM we were awakened by an orchestra of various and extremely loud construction. We soon discovered this was never ending as they are building  a subway which has been ongoing and non ending for a long time.

To the Hotels credit, it is not their fault, but had a known, I would never have stayed there. They did move us to a one bedroom when I complained, but it was still in the front of the Hotel where the living room was, so the BR was less noisy. It was room 501 and was really bare. No pictures on the wall, mismatched furniture.....kind of depressing. It may have been a suite that is used only occasionally, which they just used to accommodate our requested move. I must repeat that the staff is incredible.

The pluses were the size of the rooms, full kitchen including dishwasher and microwave with ample supplies to cook basic meals. Maid service daily.

If noise is not an issue, go for it!!

I am really disappointed at the cancellation and customer service. My work schedule was changed, so I had to switch my vacation plan. My reservation at Mamara is one month later, and I was hoping they will allow me to cancel. I work for the airline, and is usually the case for most hotels I stayed at before. Very disappointing!

My wife and I have stayed in spots all over Manhattan and the Marmara was absolutely fabulous! We stayed here for our wedding and honeymoon which was a two week visit. We were originally drawn to the Marmara because we wanted a full kitchen since we would be staying awhile (being able stock up with groceries to cover some meals can really help to cut costs...especially in NYC). When we checked in the guy at the front desk was very sweet and gave us a beautiful 1 bedroom apartment (because it really is an apt by city standards) on the 27th floor. It even had a private balcony and tons of huge windows with gorgeous views. We had a full kitchen, small dining room table, plenty of closets and very comfy furniture. We felt like New Yorkers again. For the entirety of the stay the hotel staff was charming and friendly. Our ice maker didn't work and the staff wasn't able to fix it but they were kind enough to bring us ice when we requested it. Yorkville may seem a bit far out to some but we had no trouble catching buses and taxis from our location and there were plenty of cafés and restaurants right in our neighborhood as well. There is construction going on for the upcoming subway addition but we weren't inconvenienced by it at all. We will definitely be staying at the Marmara again!

I feel really bad that I have not written this review sooner. I really like the kitchen concept and large rooms in NYC so I tried this instead of the Affinia Dumont which is in mid town. I checked in and then when I checked in with yelp I got a room upgrade, the desk Lady knew nothing about it and need authorization. No problem I got checked in to my normal room which was a nice size for Manhattan but I had a friend staying with me and I knew it would be tight. But the suite was new, nicely appointed and lots of light. The kitchenette was new and well stocked with plates, cooking stuff and a dishwasher so you can easily wash dishes before you use them. The Front desk Gal called after what seemed minutes and gave me a marvelous upgrade. She made our weekend and my extended stay. I believe they have a small gym (I don't ) remember but I did see available washers, big plus when I was coming out of gym or I was just investigating.
The only drawback for me was I come up every 8 weeks or so and I am so bloody comfortable with midtown, been extended staying midtown since 72 when I was a kid, so I am very at ease with where everything is and how to get it ,so, 96 ave is so far out of my element and I would need to relocate mentally to the Yorkville, just lazy on my part...but I really liked this hotel, liked the staff and that anything you need for cooking they will find for you (within reason). The Affinia provides you with what is in the kitchen. their appliances are outdated, whereas the Marmara are new. I think this fall I will get a box of tissues, for the nose bleed and stay again and see if I can fit myself into a Yorkviller (?) . ..Joyburger ( veggie burger) is a must do, if you like arepas ! and reason itself to stay at the Marmara.
There is construction going on for the 2nd ave line, I stayed right over it (3 rd floor) but I love that...it is like napalm in the morning. I have a wave app on my phone and just turn it up. The windows open, so you can really take it all in, which reminds me the Heat worked well, as did the windows.
For the price this is a fantastic place to stay in the city but you need to be able to maneuver the "UP UP" straight up the hill ( or mountain) walk to the subway, feel comfie riding the cross town bus,  all easy if you are comfortable with that. It is like coming to NYC but never really seeing "The City" because you are in suburban Manhattan. Feels more like you live here then you are vacationing in the city.
There is a spin studio near by, which yelp says rocks, so  this is  a big plus for me...flywheel is tres expensive. Parking is cheap, so bloody cheap down the block, around the corners, you should bring two cars!

great hotel! great service!

I give 4 starts for..

- clean room
- spacious, I mean, huge!
- kitchen and dishes ready for you, very easy to cook
- nice service, staff offered umbrella at the door!

I gave -1 star because...

- location. Its not bad!!! only 20 minutes subway ride. but considering that subway in NewYork smells real bad... and our activities were mostly in downtown.. I have to take one star away.

one more thing..

- I did not find any noise from construction. peaceful and quite, cannot ask for more.

Arrived here yesterday with my boyfriend and was surprised to find they upgraded us to a suite when we purchased 5 nights in the studio room. So nice! Pull out couch in the living area which also offers table and other seating arrangements, perfect for entertaining. The lobby is lame but the room more than makes up for it. I like the extra blanket and pillows in the closet and that we had tea and coffee makers as well as any kind of pot/ pan we could need. Favorite hotel so far in NYC :)) ps the surrounding buildings are under construction but there are plenty of convenience stores and pizza places to stock up your kitchen. Every room had a kitchen which is why I booked this hotel and  the kitchen is so nicely stocked it is well worth it!!

Spent a week here in May '14 in a 2 bed 2 bath suite. With 2 kids under 3 it was perfect. There aren't many suites in Manhattan that I could find so even though this was on the UES we decided to stay here. Most days we took the subway to different parts of the city. Subway station is several blocks away up a small hill. There was a ton of construction on the street in front of hotel since a new subway line is being added. Noise wasn't too bad surprisingly. We were on 15th floor (I think). It was great to have a washer and dryer in unit. The staff was helpful and nice. I would definitely recommend and stay here again if I'm back in town.

One word MOLD. Our bathroom smelled so badly of mold I couldn't take a shower longer than 15 minutes. When they would come and do room service, they would do a mediocre job. They did not provide us fresh towels and shampoos or conditioners. There was dust and everything apart from the mold also looked worn out. The bathroom was small the room was big. We were three people in one room so one got the pull out sofa (me) which was horrible. There was no cushion. I might have as well slept on the floor it might have been more comfortable.

I could not fully shut off the air which made my room very cold and they did not even provide additional blankets. Only redeeming feature of this place is that it's within walking distance of the subway. But then again isn't there a lot more places.

This was a really nice hotel experience. The rooms were clean and the day time staff was very nice and helpful. It was great because we were able to bring our cats with us during our stay.

The reason why it lost 2 stars is because the hallway smelled funny and one night when we called to have our pillows and blanket changed from down to down alternative, they said they had no idea what we were talking about. In the morning, our pillow request was accommodated.

We would stay again, just bring our own pillow and blankets.

First time in the USA and first time in NYC.

We choose the Marmara because we are a group of 9 people.

We ordered a 1 bedroom apartment, a 2 bedroom apartment and a studio. When we arrived they gave us the choice of either our reservation OR a 3 bedroom apartment and the studio. They were very friendly and first showed us the different rooms before we needed to decide. We're a pretty close group so 1 apartment wouldn't be a problem. Also the view of the 3 bedroom apartment was way better.

21st floor with view on the Empire State (slightly) and the East River. I think it was a good choice for this upgrade.

The staff is very friendly, they help you with all the questions you have!

Big fan of the Marmara. Just returned from our 3rd stay. Great for families group of friends. I give 5 starts for..

- clean room
- Room size is awesome
- kitchen  (could use some sharper knives sharp enough to at least peel an apple)
- Exceptional service (staff offered umbrellas)

The one downside? Location. I don't mind being on the upper east side, but subway was a little tough to walk the 3-4 blocks uphill for grandma. But it's not like it's unknown when you book it.  A  personal preference would be walk outside hotel directly into the subway. This will be the case when the 2 train construction is completed however I suspect the rates will go up substantially.
