I found Tryp through Travelzoo.com when they were offering an almost half priced rate so I booked a weekend. The hotel's located in Midtown West (formerly Hell's Kitchen) and located to a police precinct. It wasn't out of the ordinary loud for a big city. The hotel's close to Madison Square Garden, several subway lines, bars, restaurants and shopping. The hotel has an in-house bar and gastropub and offers a European style breakfast. It's been completely renovated and the staff is incredibly accommodating. I was put into a room on the second floor that unfortunately was right over the bar and entrance. I'm a light sleeper and knew this was a recipe for disaster so I went to the front desk to see if there was another room available and was immediately upgraded to a king suite with a balcony on the top floor. Score! The room was large and comfortable. The room contains a Keurig v. a coffee maker that a lot of other rooms contain. My only complaint was that the shower wasn't cleaned as well as it could have been - the last guest manscaped in the shower before me and there were still a remembrance. All in all, a really great hotel and I'd definitely stay again.

Can't say enough good things about our 4 night stay here in the beginning of August. Our room was spacious and modern and spotless and had 2 very comfortable Queen beds. It was also equipped with a refrigerator and coffee maker and the shower had a rain shower head that was a nice step up from the ordinary! Free Wi-Fi and the 24 hour gym made it even more to my teens liking. I had a drink in the bar that was delicious and few fabulous appetizers in the tapas bar as well. The location was great too as we came in on the train and it was only a couple of blocks from Penn Station and walking distance to Times Square and the Theater District. The location can't be beat! The manager Ben and his staff were very friendly and helpful and did everything they could to make our stay a pleasant one. He let us check in early and gave me a quiet room as I had requested. It was no problem to keep our luggage past check-out time. We look so forward to the day when we can stay here again! We can't wait to come back!

4.5 stars: This review is from a little over one year ago so my apologies....but I recently returned and all the important stuff is still on par......I recently stayed at this hotel and I have to say that I was shocked at how great it was. I was expecting a shoe box of a room for $199 on a Friday night. The room was above average size and the bathroom had a refreshing double headed shower system. Clean and an overly courteous staff. The front desk staff interacted with every customer to perfection. I observed and thought to myself it seems as if they have known them foerver. I was helped by not one or two, but a total of three people at the front desk. A gentleman name Engel, and two ladies named Jasmine and Sandra... All three were professional, courteous and most importantly gave off a vibe of genuine concern for a great experience. They helped me plan my entire stay and recomended a bar down on the corner, called Hudson Station, as a change of pace from the hotel bar. The only reason I did not gove 5 stars is for two reasons: the exercise room consists one treadmill, one stationary bike, one eliptical and a universal. I went back twice to get a quick workout in because it was a rather cold january night to run in the city and got shut out. Secondly, FACT AND COMEDY: it sounded like  Lexington Steele was pounding away on someone in the adjacent room.  At one point I opened my door to see if it was just my imagination about the how loud, what I assume woman was a screaming, and saw four other hotel guests laughing and listening in the hallway.I will never forget it is along as I live.

Recently stayed here for a week on a mother-daughter vacation.  It was important to me that the hotel be conveniently located, nice (for what I could pay), and hassle-free.  I am happy to report that Tryp was all that and more.  The entire staff was so helpful and accommodating.  The lobby is beautiful and the bartenders are friendly.  We stayed in a balcony room on the 15th floor and felt like millionaires.  The room was clean and beautiful with a modern decor.  The bathroom was top-notch, particularly with the rainfall shower head.  Google notebooks are available for check-out, and I saw folks using them in the lobby.  I had to print something from a website, and the hotel offers free printing from their lobby-based business center.  The on-site gym is small, but convenient.  The ONLY downside was that the room doors are VERY loud when they close, so you do hear them, and if you're on a busy floor it could drive you nuts.  Our solution was to plug the iPod into the in-room iHome box so we couldn't hear the doors over the music.  Honestly, for the price I can't imagine doing ANY better in NYC.  This was a once-in-a-lifetime trip taking my teen to NYC for the first time, and staying at Tryp was one important aspect of a perfect vacation.  Will definitely stay here again if I make my way back to Manhattan.

THE GOOD: The decor, atmosphere, and the size of the rooms. The man who carried our bags and did the valet was excellent.

THE BAD: Check in was a very slow process.  The girl seemed to be clueless and her ID name badge said "Make-up" so maybe she was a replacement.  We booked on a third party site but then the hotel charged our card twice.  So in total we paid 3 times.
We were very excited about the Gastro bar and went down to order drinks and food.  It took at least 10 minutes to be acknowledged and we were the only ones sitting at the bartop.  I ordered two dishes.  We were told the kitchen was "backed-up" and got our food after a good hour.  Service/attentiveness was TERRIBLE.  The bartenders literally disappeared at times and a random server would check to see if we were doing okay.  When the food arrived I was given something different than what I ordered.  Instead of croquetas I was given lamb skewers.  The female bartender did not bother to tell me the reason I was receiving them, what they were, or why I did not get what I ordered.  I was only given these answers after asking what was going on.  Usually when a place runs out of something they ask you if you would like to choose something else.  I guess they just picked something for me.  Pretty strange considering all of the dishes we ordered were vegetarian.

Really wanted to like the place...Maybe it was a bad night?

i wanted to say that the receptionist Christina was extremely helpful to me there. My sister and my Aunt came out for my wedding early and were staying at this hotel and i wanted to leave welcome gift baskets for them. even though i wasn't a guest at the hotel she was so great and helpful.
    excellent service. thank you

We stayed at the Tryp this past weekend to celebrate my sisters bachelorette party.  The Tryp exceeded every expectation I had!  I stopped by the hotel at about 12:30pm (with balloons in hand) to see if I could get an early check-in.  The staff was able to immediately check us in and after we told them about our plans for the evening they arranged for a late check out for us for the following day.  The room was clean, modern and simply beautiful.  The staff was incredibly accomodating and met my every wish.  They even sent a card (singed by the staff) and a complementary bottle of wine since they knew that we were celebrating a special event.  I could not have asked for a better experience.  The hotel is very centrally located and a few blocks from everyting I needed.  The service was great but what meant the most to me was that the staff was genuine, personal, fun and friendly.  Chanel and the team provided a fabulous stay for me and my guests and I highly recommend the Tryp!

    - PAPER THIN walls, you can hear anything someone does from inside your room
    - Concierge was not helpful when recommending restaurants
    - On a Sunday afternoon (when you would expect a lot of people to be leaving the city), there was not enough staff to accommodate all of the departing guests. Some guests were left waiting almost 30min to check-out
    - The staff wouldn't help the guests hail a cab, even though it was pouring rain outside. Instead, I walked a few blocks to 8th Ave (got soaked in the process) and hailed a cab myself

I really WANTED to like this place, but after what happened, I don't think I'll be recommending Tryp to my friends

I booked this hotel very unsure about the location and the quality and was so pleasantly surprised. Upon arrival the front desk informed me they had upgraded me and my 2 sisters to a better room. When we got to the room I couldn't believe the size. By any standard this room would be large so in New York it seemed even larger and for three high maintenance sisters it was amazing to have a room with 2 bathrooms! The staff was so helpful and friendly and loved the downstairs bar. Location was on the east side but still walking distance to everything. Highly recommend!

Had an amazing time in this midtown hotel - came for a girls weekend and couldn't have asked for better accommodations in the city! We stayed in a deluxe room which had ample room for three girls and all of our stuff. We had two bathrooms (!), a living room area with a wet bar and two comfy queen beds. This place was bigger than most apartments in the city. I think the only glitch is the sensor lights in the bathroom - if you shower too long -- you'll be in the dark. (Hint: Just slightly open the shower door and lights turn back on.) I can't wait to come back to this hotel!

We were transferred here after our original hotel cancelled our reservations due to the fact that they were brand new and weren't going to be open by the time we arrived in New York.  Wow!  What a nice place.  Great staff, wonderful location, AND right next to an NYPD station!  Can't beat that with a stick!  It's like a mini-W in terms of decor, and the breakfast was awesome!  It was free for continental style, which included cereal, bagels, pastry, yogurt, and for $7, you had the option of adding the hot items such as eggs, bacon, sausage, oatmeal, pancakes.  Our room was large by NY standards, so we had plenty of room, closet space, and a nice, clean bathroom.  Would love to stay here again!   And there's free wi-fi!!!

Sort of expensive, but fairly nice (new) hotel, right next door to a police station and within a block and a half of Penn Station / Madison Square Garden.  Subway station just down the block.  Rooms aren't terribly big, but are comfortable.

Staff was very friendly and helpful, for the most part.  Rooms were clean and modern.  No breakfast included in room rate, however.  Lots of food options nearby, though.

Internet access was difficult to access because the hotel's printed password cards tell you to enter the password in all caps.  It only works if you use lower case letters however.  We finally discovered this by trial and error, as the front desk was sending an engineer to check on the problem.  After we resolved the problem on our own and called back to the front desk, we were finally told, "Oh yes, we know that (it's printed wrong)."  It would have saved a little aggravation and wasted time if they'd told us this when we checked in...

Nice hotel. Close to penn station and times square. Good central location. The positives:  The room was relatively inexpensive, (based on Manhattan prices) and although the rooms were small, they were nice and clean.

The downside: The walls are very very thin. When the room next to us turned on their tv, I heard every word. Also, throughout the night I heard doors opening and closing, and I kept thinking it was my door and someone was breaking in. If you have sensitive ears, this is probably not the hotel for you.

This is the best hotel I have ever stayed at in NYC. I will now stay no where else (and I come to NYC quite regularly for work).
The rooms are huge, with modern furniture and fixtures, hardwood floors, great lighting and fast, free wifi. The staff is amazing! I left my ipod by mistake in the alarm clock docking station and when I came back the next week, they had it waiting for me.
The restaurant is amazing with their Spanish tapas, friendly bartenders and even live music. The location is close to everything, including mass transit.

If you skip this hotel, you are missing out!

Stayed overnight here for a cruise my girlfriend and I took out of the Manhattan Cruise terminal during the first big winter storm of the year. Even though we didn't get to do much around the city because of the unbearable temperatures, the hotel staff were wonderful! We needed to check out an hour after normal checkout time for the cruise and the staff did that for us without charging us a fee, which is a rarity in the hotel industry these days. The accommodations we had were more than enough and the in-room keurig machine was a great plus. They also offer free WiFi to all hotel guests. The bed was extremely comfortable. The only issue we had was that our remote didn't work when we first got to the room, but the staff had us a new remote in 5 minutes. I would recommend this hotel to anyone going to NYC!

I knew I should have known something was up when this hotel wouldn't pull up on my Yelp app. Turns out, it's only 3 weeks old and that's why they had such a good deal. This place is very very neat.
Walking in, I immediately notice the modern furniture in the Gastropub in the lobby and the corner street sign next to the front desk. The staff was very friendly and thorough. My godfather went to the restroom in the lobby and even expressed that they had the germless air hand dryer. Very great first impression already!
As I walk up to my room, I immediately liked the wall art. On one wall with the TV, there was black wall paint with silvery drawings. The headboard of the bed contained various tourist quotes. On the wall with the windows, there was a large square mirror with a QRC creatively placed on there.
Unique amenities include a Keurig drink maker, shampoo/conditioner/shower gel dispensers, and a modern circular shower head. There is no shelf in the shower to place things, so there is a circle cut out from the glass of the shower so that you can conveniently reach out to the sink to grab whatever you need.
Service is impeccable as well! We had bought some perishable food from the restaurant show and noticed that there was no mini fridge in the room. We called the front desk to ask if there was anything they could do for us, and so they sent someone up with a mini fridge. The staff member that brought it up was super friendly as well.
This hotel is simple and cute, and more importantly, convenient. I look forward to staying here again, granted that their non-special price is not ridiculous.

Great location and a great rate! Very modern, up to date, and unique decor. I loved the bar area, and our bartender was great! Very nice and gave us a good wine recommendation. Only complaint is that I had blood-like stains in the shower that really creeped me out. Other than that one incident it was a good overall stay.

Convenient  to Penn Station, 3 minute walk. Very comfortable room with 2 queen beds and a sleeper sofa, just right for a family of 5. Beds were great, check in/out was simple, room (10th floor) was quiet all weekend.  Good for family.

Loved this hotel. It's only about a year old, so it's new, trendy and, most importantly, clean. Rooms are actually quite spacious and well appointed with a Keurig, free water, and free wifi. Loved the shower with a rain head.  I took the train in and it was a quick walk to Penn Station, passing subway stops along the way. Really pleasant, helpful staff and a cool lounge and bar that I did not get a chance to visit during my brief stay. Definitely would stay here again.

Stayed here this weekend, because it was close to my daughter's apartment on West Side.  Great place.  Rooms are decent for a NYC hotel, and price reasonable (I paid $259 for Friday/Saturday rate, then $199 for Sunday nite).  Very new, very modern, and a quiet hotel given that next door is a NYC Police Precinct.

Not much else to say other than a great, quiet hotel on the West Side, where there are not a lot of options.  Had coffee Sunday morning in the Gastro Bar, but not much else.  Seemed like a lively bar scene in hotel, but with so many options in the area, I didn't really spend a lot of time in the lobby/Gastro Pub.  Free WiFi was a definte plus, quite unusual for NYC hotels.

If your travels find you on West Side of Manhattan, I recommend this hotel.

This hotel was fabulous! Location is a mjinute from the subway and walking distance to many points of interest.  Hotel staff could not have been more accommodating.  Arrived to the smell of freshly baked cookies and was checked in promptly despite several people in line-efficient! When I couldn't get my ipad to work with the free wi-fi I expected to go to the Apple store, a short walk away.  The young man at the desk fixed it before the "engineer" sent by the nice lady at the desk even arrived!

The rooms are very spacious, the bed is super comfy, ac fabulous .the bathroom is stylish but we had a hard time changing the shower setting to spray out more water.  The hotel is immaculate and I can't give a higher recommendation for it.

Arg - I REALLY wanted to like this hotel! Like other reviewers, I was attracted by the reasonable price, newness of the property and cool amenities like the in room Keurig, free Wifi, and Gastropub downstairs.

But this hotel's management feels waay too "brand new" - staff is polite and friendly but no one's got their s*** together!

So my huz and I arrive at like 1pm on a Weds to check in. Early, we know but we decide to just check and see if there's anything available (at the very least check our 3 bags). Front desk runs up to the room to check and says the AC unit is still being worked on but will be done in 10-15 mins. So we wait 20-25 in the lobby and check with front desk again (even though they did say someone would let us know). They run up to the room again and lo and behold, it's not going to be another 10-15 mins... It's going to be another hour and a half. First off, they said the maintenance is routine so how does 15 turn to 90 mins unless they broke something while servicing? Ugh - annoying but whatever - we're early, I get it.

So we check our bags and they were nice enough to just take them up to our room while we kill time.

We come back 90 mins later, get out keys, and head to the 11th floor. When we open the door, we notice the AC is not running (uh-oh). HVAC control isn't on - not even the power button works and the AC unit looks like its been partially pulled from the wall - no cover, natch.

So we called down and they immediately sent an Engineer up who told us happily "Oh we totally missed this room! Looks like the first guy prepped it but never told me." Really, very annoying. They fixed it and besides a maid walking into our room when we said no service and some random employee knocking on our door bc there was a complaint of a smoky smell from our floor, that's all the interaction I've had with the staff.

Oh, also - we originally booked our room directly with the hotel like 2 months in advance. The website wasn't working correctly so we called and booked on the phone. We called maybe a few weeks before our trip to confirm and they give us a heart-attack by saying they couldn't find our reservation and that the price per night had jumped $100. After scrambling, they called us back and told us that we had booked with the hotel and not the management company who usually picks up the calls so that's why they couldn't find the confirmation email.

I mean, on the whole, everything worked out but our overall experience with Tryp is "you get what you pay for." In the future, I'll know to pay a bit more to get a more seamless trip (it is vacation afterall!).

Pros: newer modern rooms, pretty spacious for NYC, free Wifi that actually works well, in-room safe, food downstairs, Keurig, sulfate-free toiletries, close to subway

Cons: Nice, yet totally disorganized staff from start to finish.

I just had a whirlwind trip into NYC this weekend and stayed at TRYP for a night. As many of the other Yelpers have described, there is so much going on in the city, that the time spent at this hotel, really should be kept to a minimum. If you are looking for simple, modern and clean with not too many frills, then this is a good place to have as your home base in NYC. There isn't much to do at TRYP other than to lounge around and enjoy a cocktail and some food at the bar. There is no gym, no pool; there IS, however, free wifi!

I arrived very early on check-in day and was very pleased that we were allowed to check-in right away. They had a room available for us and we took it. The hotel and our room looked very modern and inviting. We inspected our room quickly to make sure we had everything we needed....   Clean room; check. Blow dryer; check. Iron and ironing board; check. Safe; check. Comfortable bed; check. Working A/C; check! Off we went!

The bed was comfortable and the only trouble I had sleeping was directly attributable to some city noise I could hear. I think, however, that is to be expected at any hotel in NYC.

Upon checking out, the staff helped me in hailing a cab and holding my bag while we explored the city some more. Overall, my hotel experience was good. The price we paid was lower than we would pay at most other hotels. The low price is reflected in the no-frills environment I described above. This is a very good place to stay if all you need is a place to sleep and freshen up from time to time.d

I travel to NY about 3-4 times a year for business and always like to try different hotels. This hotel is brand new and very close to my clients so I decided to give it a go. It is pretty inexpensive for a NY hotel and the rooms were rather large. I got put into a "family room" so I had a huge room. There was a huge living space that had two fold out bunk bunks, "kitchen table" with 4 chairs, and then another "room" with 2 queen beds. The hotel was clean, and all the staff were nice. Also, free Wi-Fi which is huge plus. The bathroom had storage space and counter space which is hard to find in NY. Big plus for me as I hate try to spread out my make-up, flat iron, blow dryer etc with no counter space.

Upon checking in, I got the option to prepay for the breakfast buffet with 20% off. I went ahead and did that for one day so I could check out the breakfast buffet in the Gastro Pub. It was good- I'm not a fan of buffets especially breakfast because I am not a morning eater. With the 20% off, it was $14.00. They had a hot bar with scrambled eggs, potatoes, waffles, oatmeal, bacon etc and then a pastry bar and yogurt.

When I checked into the hotel, I also decided to try Gastro Pub for dinner. It is tapas food but was pretty good. I got the fish taco which I really liked. I also tried the mini hot dogs which were also good. It was always so busy at the Gastropub which I guess is good for business.

Last weekend I was in NY for a wedding which I was part of. The bride and groom chose this Hotel as accommodations for the wedding party and guest. The location was ideal, safe and a few blocks away from Time Square. The staff was very pleasant and helpful upon arrival and during the whole stay.  The rooms were spacious and clean.  I would highly recommend this hotel and would stay here again in the future.

We just finished up a one night stay In this west midtown hotel, which I got off Hotwire for ~$150 including tax.  My review is considering that rate, though I might have dropped it to a 4 if I payed full freight.

It feels like a pretty new hotel, very clean and modern. Our room was big enough for 2, and came with a comfy bed, standard 42 or so inch wall mounted plasma, coffee maker, iPod dock/clock radio, and free wifi. I had the same issue with the wifi, the password is in the wrong case on the form they hand out.

Location was great for tourists; very close to Penn station and bus pickup/drop off points, and on a relatively quiet block. Had absolutely no noise issues, and both of us slept well. It had an international feel, with lots of euros staying there.

The lobby area has almost a hostel feel, not huge, but very functional. There's a little bar and a gastropub (didn't eat there, though it looked nice), free computers with a printer for printing tickets, travel plans, etc.  Staff was friendly & efficient, and we were able to check in 2 hrs early.

Only downsides were a small gym (though equipment was nice enough), and mounted shower soap dispensers instead of bottles, which is a nice eco-feature to me , but may be off putting to some.

Overall, it was a great value and a convenient location, and I'll definitely be looking at staying here again next time I'm in NYC

THE GOOD:  The hotel is clean, modern, and decently-appointed.  It is located near Madison Square Garden, the Empire State Building, Macy*s and Times Square.

THE ALRIGHT:  Price hovers around $150/night before taxes which is not bad for a NYC hotel.  The immediate area is not very exciting, but it is not far from the action.

THE BAD:  Check-in was slow, the hallways are a little cramped, and I found toilet paper in the bowl upon arrival.  Also, the "wood" laminate floors come across as cheap and is uneven.

It's a really nice hotel but it has a sort of bland feel to it. Our room was tiny and weird and boring but other than that everything was nice. It's not a very interesting place to stay in NYC but we did find a cool bar and food place that spanned over a couple boats!

Rooms are HUGE! We got the premium suite for $200 a night not bad when you split with people

It's as big as a apartment. Has a living room,2 bathrooms HUGE BED And a little bar!
Next to the police station so we felt extra safe.

Very nice hotel! Our view was amazing and there were absolutely no complaints (except maybe the temperature in the gym was 81 and couldn't be turned down)! The place is very clean and the beds were very comfortable. Gladys was our "maid" and was extremely friendly and hospitable. Her willingness to go above and beyond prompted me to write this review. Everything is in walking distance and the area is safe. I will definitely stay here again if I'm in the NY area. :)

We really enjoyed our stay here at the Tryp. The location is great, the rooms are very clean, and the rates were reasonable. Free WiFi is also never a bad thing.

One drawback is the noise level from the adjoining rooms -that got a little out of hand at times.

Great location near Penn Station. The street looks a little dark at night but its next to a police station so we felt pretty safe.

The staff were really friendly. First time I've had a room steward spark up a conversation.  Also, clean and quiet!

I recently got to go back to New York city and work there for a week. The Tryp hotel was the closest to my client and I booked a week there. I enjoyed my stay and felt very safe as the hotel was next door to a police station. It was within 5 minutes walk to Penn Station, Macy's, Times Square, etc.

The modern rooms reminded me of W or Aloft hotels and were very sleek and clean in design. Note there is no room service, however the Tapas bar below served great spanish cuisine with a NYC flare. The wait staff and bartender were friendly and attentive and I felt right at home.

Just remember: This hotel was a tryp!

Awesome hotel. We booked for our anniversary and stayed with our friends it was their birthday. They surprised us with a upgraded premium room. We ended up with a huge room with two bathrooms and a living room w bar. Floor to ceiling windows. Great view. Loved our stay.

Best hotel I've ever stayed in!!!! Not only was this an amazing hotel for NYC (which has some pretty crummy places)...this hotel was the best one I've stayed in ever! The room was AMAZING and SPACIOUS! The shower was absolutely incredible too! If you're staying in NYC, you gotta stay here! Its right next to the subway and walking distance to the Empire State Building! Oh and not to mention, it was an AMAZING PRICE! LOVED IT! I'll always stay here when coming to NY!

A very nice hotel at a great location. The service is good and the rooms are beautiful and clean. One disadvantage is the wardrobe that is too small, certainly if you booked a room for four. The tapas bar is very cozy and the food is delicious. Lovely hotel!

We stayed in a deluxe room with a king bed on the 9th floor.

It was nice, spacious, and fairly clean overall, although I found a torn (dry) tissue in the sink and the shower floors had that chalkiness to it from soap residue, I assume/hope?

    Some things of note:
    - as mentioned in other reviews, there's a gap between the door and the rest of the shower. It's not huge but could be problematic. There's also a circular cutout between the shower glass and the sink area. Not much of an issue for our one night stay but again could be problematic.

    - next to a police station. we slept fine for the most part though.

    - they have the trio of full size dispensers mounted in the shower for shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner. There's also a skincare bar and body lotion (1 oz). The collection is Zero% from Gilchrist and Soames (sulfate-free).

    - plenty of closet space!

    - yay for motion sensor light in the bathroom!

Finally, a hotel in NYC that pays attention to the "little things."  First, when you arrive, there's a cute little note welcoming you on the mirror.

The hotel room itself is very nicely appointed - including a keurig machine and probably one of the cleanest hotels I've been in in NYC.

Although you feel safe since it's right next to the police station, the hotel itself is off the beaten path.  So off the path that the doorman might not be able to hail you a cab, since there isn't much through traffic.  However, you can easily walk to Penn station from the hotel (on a nice day - probably not when it's raining or - degrees outside)

Although the area itself is quiet since there's not much traffic, the walls are paper thin.  Case in point, I knew there was a French couple in the room next to ours who liked to wake up at 6 AM to go shopping.  Oh, and the lady had really loud heels that would click clack on the wooden floors.  Best yet, I could hear the gentleman singing in the shower...

Again, I really liked the hotel and the experience there.  The bellmen were extremely attentive and if you luck out, you get a voucher for free cocktails.

Trying to book a hotel for 5 people on a reasonable budget in NYC is extremely difficult. This hotel exceeded all expectations. Our room could of easily fit 8 guests (2 queen sized beds, 2 bunk beds and a full pull out sofa).

The bathroom is AMAZING! You can't get better than a huge overhead shower and all the toiletries you could possibly need already provided.

The staff was so kind and went the extra mile from the get go. We arrived in NYC at 10am and check in wasnt till 3... we asked if we could get our room early and it wasn't available yet, so the manager took down our number to call us when it was. At 12pm I received a call that our room was available and ready to check in, and our bell man brought us 2 complimentary bottles of wine for having us wait those 2 hours! Uh hello, amazing!

Housekeeping went above and beyond to ensure our room was clean. Walked into the room and felt like my grandma had cleaned up after me (so detailed and perfect!)

Def staying here again and recommending it to everyone I know.

Having remembered my first stay at the hotel to be amazing- clean and a great deal for location, my second stay with a friend was somewhat disappointing.

I arrived later but was irritated to learn they had her waiting 45 minutes for our room. I probably could have let that go except for the fact that when we returned to our room that night, the heat wouldn't turn on! We were just too tired and felt it was too late to have someone fussing around with it and decided it would be warm enough under the covers. We may have regretted that decision a bit in the morning- brr.

A room in the corner near the stairway exit also meant waking up to the door slamming shut way too frequently as I assume the cleaning staff went about their business.

It's nice of them to hold bags for you but just be sure you come back with a good amount of time to retrieve them because it seems lots of people do so and they can get  a little overwhelmed when there are more than a few at once.

I'll still consider Tryp when I need a place to stay near Penn Station in the city because of its cleanliness and location but sadly I don't think it'll be my go to. I still gave it three stars as an average of my two stays... Hopefully this last one was just a fluke.

I stayed at Tryp for three nights and was very pleased with everything! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted promptly. The wait for check in was quick and I had no problems getting a room. She even asked if I'd prefer a room higher up or lower down. We picked higher since we wanted a bit of a view. It wasn't a spectacular view but I could still see a skyline and lights, all I wanted.

The room was very clean! The bathroom was spotless and I loved everything about the bathroom. The room itself is very modern. It has a safe and plenty of space to keep your belongings. Theres a Keurig machine with complimentary coffee/ tea and water. The best part was that there is free wifi, which was very important to me. I don't feel like I should pay the same amount I pay for internet at home in less than a weeks stay.

Their gastropub downstairs is a bit expensive but I was lucky and there was a promotion for free mac an cheese. It was good but a little too salty for my taste but everyone was really nice.

The location is just south of Times Square and very close to a number of subways!

Overall, I'd definitely recommend my stay here to anyone and I would really like to return here at some point!

I definitely enjoyed my stay at this hotel. The downstairs Gastrobar has a really chill atmosphere and the food was tasty for sure. Lastly, the location was extremely convenient as it is right in the middle of all the Manhattan action. Book it Dano!

The interior of the hotel was really chic and modern. The rooms were super small though. There was barely any walking space around the bed for two people.

    Huge Complaint About This Place!!!

Worst customer service ever. I booked a room months in advance. That should have been ample time to clean up one room. When I arrived, they gave me my room key. I got to my room and saw the bed sheets messed up and pillows on the floor. The towels were on the floor and the shower stall hadn't been cleaned. The toilet paper was on the floor. Basically it was a mess. I mean that could happen sometime right?

The worst was how they dealt with the problem. The person in charge at that time was a man named RICKY (who should be fired). He was unbelievably rude and started talking about how he was older than me and I was younger and the world works on mistakes and I need to learn and understand it. Excuse me? I didn't book a hotel room so that you can lecture me about life when you obviously messed up.

He then went on to tell me that there are no more rooms and there's nothing he can do unless we want to wait, which he estimated to be about 30 minutes to 1 hour.

Basically the way they dealt with the problem was unbelivably problematic. I would not suggest booking a hotel here if you do not want a chance for mistakes and bad hotel management.

This place worked out great. We had a large group meet for the weekend and all spot a large room. Sleeps 8- we brought six so it actually left and extra bed. For New York City the size was outstanding. Never heard a sound from the adjoining rooms. Quick uber ride to all the other destinations. Walking distance to Madison square garden!

Absolutely great hotel.I came here following a conference stay at another hotel, to have a girl's weekend with my friend. Perfect location, near the subway, Time's Square, Hell's kitchen.  We walked to a broadway show. But you also feel removed from the craziness because of its placement on its block.

We had a premium room and wow was it a great size. Two king sized beds? Yes please. Corner view? Sure! The finishings were modern, clean and they thought of a lot of little details from toiletries to a keurig coffee maker that gave that "little extra" feeling of delight. They also have a mini fridge in the room, free wifi. No gouging here.

Checking in early? No worries, they will hold on to your bags, no charge. They also will hold on to them at the end of your stay if you have a few hours before heading to the airport. Front desk staff are super nice and they will go out of their way to call you a cab or get you what you need. Checking in and out was also super efficient

The ice machine being in the gym is a little weird but I think they are trying to maximize space. The hallway to the gym can get congested, making it awkward and weird the one time I went to get ice as I fought my way through a group doing a tour.

We didn't have any noise or temperature concerns either during our 3 night stay. Apparently there was a noise complaint about us (which was not true because we weren't even in our room at the time). That was a little off putting (to be accused of that right as we were returning to our rooms) but I can overlook it because everything else was so great.

Next time I'm in NY this will be my hotel for sure

I was pleasantly surprised with this hotel! Granted, we didn't spend much time in the hotel since we spent a lot of time in the city, but it was a great hotel! I thought the price was fairly reasonable considering it was in a good location. We were able to walk to Times Square and it's very close to the Theater district. It was great!

The hotel was very new- I think it opened within the last 4 months so it was very clean and modern. The employees were very friendly.

Valet parking is $40 per 24 hours. Even if you stay part of a day, you'll be charged another $40.

In the rooms, there was a little couch area in front of the TV which was nice. They offer complimentary water bottles (it's $3 if you want a refill bottle) which is great! And they give you free wi-fi which worked pretty well i.e. wasn't too slow.

I loved the pump dispensers in the shower! It's actually very eco friendly if you think about it because they're not throwing away all those little sample bottles that are left half used! FYI the shower is a stall rather than a tub. I'm not sure if they have rooms with tubs if you want/need one i.e. if you have kids.

My only complaint is that the bathroom was a motion light so when you have to go in the middle of the night, you're blinded by the bright light. Also, the light turned off in the middle of my shower and since there are no windows in the bathroom, it was really dark! Apparently, my showers are too long!

Other than that, I thought the hotel was great! I would totally stay there again for my next visit!

Just finished a 2 day stay with my family of 5. We booked the family room which has 2 queen beds, 2 bunk beds & a pull out sofa. So much room! We could have fit 3 more people in this room. Kids and wife loved it. Hotel is close to everything in Times Square. Quick checkin and all the staff were very helpful. There are two banks of elevators and we never had to wait long for one to show up. Vibe of the hotel is chic boutique. Not your typical chain hotel. Didn't eat at the hotel, but many people were. Had drinks at the bar and the bartenders were very friendly. Only a couple small downsides, there is a condo/timeshare salesperson parked near the front door and there is only one ice machine (hint: it's in the lobby where the gym is located.)  We all loved the free wifi. Would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Stayed here one night during my trip to the city. It's very close to Penn Station and has plenty of subway stops all around, which was perfect. This place has a very modern, European feel - tres chic, if you will. The beds are incredibly comfortable and the rooms are very clean. Only things - could use an ice machine on each floor, more shelves in the bathroom (I was having to put my stuff on the floor because there's not much countertops), and perhaps a mini fridge in the rooms. Overall, great place to stay if you want to be close to Penn Station.

Our stay at the Tryp was very nice.  I was going to give a 3 star rating because of the poor layout in the restroom of our room (huge window that is poorly insulated and allows a ridiculous amount of cold air in), but then, as we were leaving we met Mr. John the doorman who was not only warm and friendly, but was also extremely, extremely helpful!  Unprompted, John noticed that I am pregnant and insisted on finding us an SUV cab, not a standard sedan cab, so that we were more comfortable and safer on our way to the airport as the roads were covered  with snow and the larger vehicle would be less likely to slide around on the road.  When my husband tried to tip Mr. John, he would not accept it... He simply smiled and said save that for your baby. John's outstanding service and kindness is the reason I am rating the Tryp 5 star and is also the reason we will be returning to the Tryp on our future trips to New York!

Loved, loved, loved this hotel. As noted in another review, trying to find a place for 5 people in NYC is impossible. We got the "family" room -- less than $200 on the website on a weekend night! -- and it was a tremendous value.

Clean, big, and modern, this is everything you can want in this value of a hotel. Neighborhood is safe and it's just a half a block from the subway.

I really liked this hotel.  Not knowing the full definition of boutique hotels, I would call it a boutique hotel.  Very nice, and clean with a great helpful staff.  Walking distance to Time Square, Central Park, the HUGE Macy's and all the trains.  There is a police station right next door.  I was looking for Liv or Stabler the whole time.  Extra points for the wine n fruit they left for my Anniversary!  Nice.  Room was a nice size.  Plenty of room.  Maybe my room was bigger than others?  IDK but it was nice with a great view of the Hudson..  Wanted to add something else but I forgot so... there ya go..

Stayed in a regular king room for 3 nights. Service staff was friendly and helpful. Room was clean. This hotel is about 2 blocks from Madison Square Garden and Macy's at Herald Square. Close to Times Square and Rockefeller Center, they are all within walking distance but make sure you have comfy shoes. Bed and pillows were very comfortable. Not sure how old this place is but it looked newly remodeled and had a modern style. Also, room was pretty spacious!

There is an entrance for the A-C-E lines on the same block which makes for a quick ride  up to Central Park or down south... Or really anywhere in between.

Only downfall is that the walls are pretty thin so you can hear a lot. I was awakened two days in a row by an energetic child next door.

    Really solid experience.

    Things I liked:
    -- Staff was helpful
    -- Hardwood floors in room
    -- Very reasonable rates
-- Non-sketchy subway station on the same block
-- Surrounding area felt nice and safe
    -- Terrific location
    -- Great shower

I guess the only bummer is that despite the prime location, you're unlikely to have any type of view from your room.  But there's nothing they can do about that.

I gave the Tryp a 3  star ONLY because of John (not sure of his title)  IF he would have been the manager, I am sure the Tryp would have received 4- 5 stars.  We requested early check-in (1:00) we got in at 3:10.  We  requested a fan, a fan was sent up that did not work.  Our coffee machine was broke, walked down to get another, it was broke as well.  The rooms are very clean and beds are comfy, there are 2 very small trash cans in the" family rooms" (that sleep 6-7)    Very close to the sub-way, as well as a NYPD station. The bar experience was not much better,  the wine tasted like vinegar, the free sangria was not any good either ( how can you mess sangria up ?) you can if you put bad wine in it.  John is the only reason I gave the Tryp a 3, otherwise it would have been a 2.   The 2 maintenance guys were very nice as well.
This place could be very cool, hopefully things will get better.

The Tryp by Wyndham hotel is beautiful. I chose this hotel because it was close to the Javits Center and was one of the hotels with a special discount for New York Comic Con.

Right when you walk in to the hotel lobby, there is a sitting area and a bar (Gastro Bar on 35th) on the left. I do not recommend eating at the bar though, maybe for a drink, but the food is pricey and mediocre. The lobby also has complimentary coffee and cookies.

I booked a Deluxe Room with a King bed for two nights. It was a nice size given that it's right by Times Square. When you enter your room, you will notice a little note written on the bathroom door mirror from a staff member welcoming you and telling you the next day's temperature. I thought that was really sweet. The room was nicely decorated, very modern and chic. The king bed can fit three people, but the bed itself was a little stiff. I love the bathroom. It was spotless. No dirty residue anywhere. The shower area is glass so you do not have to deal with gross shower curtains. It is pretty big and can fit multiple people, if you're into that kind of thing. It would have been great if the water pressure from the shower-head was stronger. The room has the usual amenities- flat screen TV, huge dresser, desk, etc.

Because it's the City That Never Sleeps, there are going to be folks who are going to be obnoxiously loud in the wee morning hours. The doors are not sound resistant so you hear it all, especially if you are staying in a room by the elevators. Try to request a room further away. They have nice black out curtains.

I would definitely stay at this hotel again. I had a lovely experience and the staff were all so friendly. You can have your luggage stored before check-in time and also after you have checked out.

The hotel is really close to the subway and Penn Station. There is a parking garage across the street and another one on the street right behind the hotel. It's also located right next to a police station.

    Free wifi!

I've been in many hotels in NYC , and I will tell you that many "suites" are nothing more than a slightly larger room with an extra piece of furniture.  Or the suite is pimped out and awesome, but costs a small mortgage payment for a one night stay.

That being said, the premium rooms at TRYP are hands down the best bang for your buck anywhere in Manhattan.

I needed a room for 6 people. Guys and girls. Attending a wedding and partying afterwards. This room was nicely decorated with modern amenities, 2 great bathrooms, 2 comfortable queen beds, and a pull out couch. Large enough to easily sleep 6 people. Large enough for 4 girls to simultaneously get ready for a night out.  Complimentary Wifi, water bottles, and Keurig coffee.

Anytime I am with a large group for an NYC sleepover, I will 100% book this hotel room.

One really annoying and weird thing (although I won't take a star away for it) the only ice and vending machine in the whole damn hotel is located on the lobby level....in the gym.

When you wake up hungover and dehydrated, you DO NOT want to do the walk of shame down 8 floors and awkwardly through the lobby and gym holding an ice bucket just to buy some damn Gatorade.  Stupidest set up ever.

Other than that, however, this place is the tits.

I would give this place 20 stars if Yelp would allow it! This hotel is definitely as good as it gets. Not only is the location ideal, and not only is the hotel itself very clean and up to date, but it's the staff that puts this gem of a place over the top!

Channel Garcia and the rest of the staff are definitely committed to making this place unbelievable! As soon as we checked in, Channel gave us the option of upgrading to one of their bigger, themed rooms for no extra charge! We were given a complimentary bottle of wine and a plate of fruits and cheeses. When I told the staff that I was going to "pop the question" while I was there, they were sooo helpful with suggestions and ideas. They even dropped off a card to our room!

All of this was in addition to the great hotel itself. The rooms are a great size, and all up to date with hard wood floors and a modern decor. You can't beat the location either. The A,C,E line stops right down the block, and just 1 more street over is Penn Station and MSG. This is the perfect spot to stay if you're coming to catch a show on Broadway. Either by train, cab or foot...Times Square isn't far away at all.

I can't say enough about this hotel and its staff. It's the first Tryp in the country, and by the way their running this one, there will soon be many more across the US that you can try.

Wifi speed tops out at .5 MBPS. That is a fraction of speeds capable via LTE, 3G, or even Edge cell phone connection. In 2015 this is a joke.

Housekeeping is worst I've seen in "high end" hotel. Housekeeping took dirty towels off bathroom floor I used day before, rerolled, and placed on shelf as new. Same stains in same places and still damp from day before, garbage left atop closet in room.

Gym has 1 weight machine, 1 elliptical, and 2 treadmills. Good luck getting morning or afternoon workout in.

Hotel gets 2 stars for nice decor and potential. With proper staffing, upgraded gym, and upgrade wifi this would be 5 star hotel for sure.

TRYP by Wyndham is a deal hotel. Great value for money. You're in Manhattan and close to everywhere. Since I checked in I have been happy with the hotel. Room is clean, big and modern. They clean up room every day pretty well.

Perfect for couples or group of friends. Calm hotel. Bar and eating area has a great ambiance but little small for big groups. If I came again to New York Id come back here. Plus it's close to the best bagel joint in town!!!

Overall a fairly good experience. Our stay had ups and downs, but this gets four stars instead of three due to staff who were willing to make up for the challenges we faced.

    Let's summarize:

    - The free wifi is definitely a plus, although it's a bit slow (1.2mbps down / 0.5 up).

    - Our bathtub wouldn't drain properly, when the technician couldn't fix it (on account of incorrectly assessing the issue) I got some Draino and and auger and just did it myself.

    - Due to our challenge the daytime manager gave us complimentary breakfast and lowered our room rate for the duration of our stay, which was very nice of her.

    - The night manager wasn't very helpful. Offered the bare minimum every time we communicated. Never went out of his way to accommodate anything.

    - The staff overall was extremely friendly and helpful.

    - The lobby and Gastro Bar are very convenient. Each table has an outlet, making this a great place to get some work done if you're in town on business. Wasn't a huge fan of the breakfast, but the food at lunch was pretty good.

    - Fairly well-designed and trendy hotel.

    - Floors are laminate, not carpet. This is pretty cool at first, but it seems they don't vacuum them, because--and I heard others complaining about this too--silt and dust sticks to your feet as you walk across your room.

The main reason for the four star review is the quality vs. cost ratio. We visited in NYC's low season, in late January and room rates were only $118/night. Very reasonable for a place that's in Midtown, only a block away from Penn Station.

This is an outdated review of our 2nd of two hotels while staying in NYC

+ Great staff.  Friendly and accommodating.
    + Close to public transportation
+/- Next to the police station.  (At first I thought it was weird, then we made friends wih the cops, lol.)
+ Restaurant/bar on site.  It isn't anything big or fancy, but casual and the bartenders were great.
+ Rooms were very clean and modern.
    - Don't expect a fancy view.
+ Much quieter than in Time Square area though.
+ All toiletries are easily accessible.  (There's shampoo and soap dispensers in the actual shower.) At first, I thought it odd, but totally enjoyed it afterwards.
    + Decent prices for NYC.
+ Not super busy and small enough to be a surprisingly relaxing spot to end the day/night.

Bottom Line:  We were glad we ended at this hotel versus starting at it.  We even wished we stayed her the whole time.

I stayed at the Tryp one night after seeing a show at MSG.

The Good: The hotel is immaculate and modern and has some of the friendliest staff you'll encounter in New York. The room was comfortable and not too cramped by NYC standards.

The Meh: The floor was quite noisy in the morning due to the very close configurations of rooms. There's no mini fridge in the room. Not sure if one is available by request. Stayed on the second floor and elevators were almost always full to capacity when they arrived on my floor. Ended up taking the stairs with our heavy bags.

The Bad: Breakfast. Do not have breakfast at the hotel. It is an overpriced and extremely underwhelming "buffet" and you certainly won't get your money's worth. Selections were very limited and under stocked. For $20 a plate you're better off elsewhere. Head around the corner to the Tick Tock diner.

We stayed here for the past 3 nights and I had a wonderful experience right from the moment we walked in. The bell and front desk attendants are VERY courteous and professional and we even got a free upgrade on our room! The family suite was clean and modern which I loved. It was a pretty sweet deal considering the service, amenities, location (there's a subway stop just a few steps away!), and best of all PRICE!

We stayed at a 5 star hotel a few nights before this and we still had to pay for wifi service and there was no mini fridge (traveling with the family for a week in NYC...a mini fridge is much appreciated). On top of that we basically paid an arm and a leg just for a higher thread count!

Would definitely recommend TRYP and would DEF come back.
