History

Established in 2007.

The dream

"The time has come," the Walrus said,
"To talk of many things:
Of wine and food, of friend and foe,
And all else that this life brings."

Apologies to Lewis Carroll.

We have been on a life path that has taken us from Iowa to California to New York to Michigan to Illinois to Washington and now Oregon. When Bruce turned 50. He asked for a plan on how we were going to spend the rest of our lives. Part of that list was to find a part of the world we enjoyed; move there; slow down and - the final item - find or build a business we could operate..

We loved the Northwest but the slowing down part did not happen. Susan was the CFO for a small company and Bruce was the Director of Biosts at a biotech company. The summer of 2006, after the loss of two siblings, we started looking into the slowing down part. We found a place to do that. For several reasons we settled on Western Oregon Wine Country and in June of 2007 we purchased the property now known as Brookside Inn

We could not have enjoyed our stay more at the Brookside Inn!  Bruce and Susan were outstanding hosts.  They are both familiar with the area and extremely helpful in outlining activities.  Delicious breakfasts including home made blueberry and peach scones were the perfect start to a day of vineyard hopping and tastings.   The grounds are centrally located in the Valley for easy access to sensational dining experiences and local activities.  The rooms were impeccably clean and well appointed.  I have stayed in many B&Bs and Brookside ranks at the top.   I sincerely look forward to my next visit.

Beautiful place, great food, charming host, and even some prime fishing right out front! It's also in a perfect location for exploring the wine country, and right down the road from the Trappist Abbey, a bastion of peace and hiking.

We had the  most restful and wonderful visit at the  Brookside Inn. Susan, our hostess, was the sole reason for this!! She is a gracious host, a fabulous cook, knowledgeable about the area and a wonderful conversationalist!! All the best to you Susan...xoxoxo

We stayed at this B&B during a recent trip to visit Willamette Valley area wineries.  Bruce and Susan couldn't have been any more accommodating and Bruce cooks an amazing breakfast.  The rooms were great and the property is serene and relaxing.  More importantly, Bruce and Susan not only know the local area but know the local people.  They gave great recommendations on places to eat as well as recommending a driver for one of the days we were there.  They don't accept kickbacks by the way, so referrals are genuine.

Our group of six stayed at the Brookside Inn for a few days in October, and we were thrilled with the whole experience.  The facilities and property are beautiful, the location is an easy drive to several wineries, and Susan's breakfasts were outstanding.  Susan was very helpful in helping plan our trips to the wineries and to the surrounding towns for dinners.  The inn was recommended to us by friends, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

My boyfriend and I ran a half-marathon in Dundee, Oregon in July and stayed at the Brookside Inn B&B off Abbey Road. This was my first time at a B&B and the experience was simply fabulous! Susan, the owner and innkeeper was a wonderful hostess and prepared breakfast every morning of our stay. Not to mention the best coffee I have ever had and I have traveled the world and had lots of coffee in my lifetime! Anyway, I highly recommend Brookside if you are ever in Dundee, Carlton, or Portland. It's a great location for wine tasting and it doesn't get any greener and secluded than this!  5 stars from Bustinwheels!

I echo everyone's comments here. Bruce and Susan could not be kinder; their food recommendations, their food recommendations, and their directions are all spot on. The rooms are extremely well cleaned, and the beds are soft yet firm, topped off by some 600 thread sheet linens. They are very laid back about breakfast time, saying "It's your vacation, not ours." The particular morning we awoke to chanterelle mushroom gravy and a poached egg over waffles. Oh wow. A perfect breakfast so prepare you for a long day of wine tasting.

I would have to say of the 6-8 places we called, they were  probably the most affordable for the location, but there is not an ounce of quality or service that demands a lower night's stay.
Be sure and tell Mondo and Rizzo, the two dogs on site, we say hello.
