The History Of The Buona Sera Inn
(as we know it)

In some form or another, the Buona Sera Inn has been a Motel since at least 1937. Additions to the Motel occurred sometime in the mid 1950's. Back in these times, Motels were called Motor Courts, and we have evidence that some of the original garages originally attached to the Motel were converted into rooms. However, in those days, records were often not kept, or are sparse at best.

We do know that sometime in 2001-2002, the Buona Sera Inn was called the Parkwood Lodge. The Inn at that time was in very bad repair. At that time it was purchased by Peter and Irene Abdullah, and a complete renovation of the property was started.

Between 2003 and 2012, the Abdullah's renovated the entire Motel, and renamed it the Buona Sera Inn. Their reputation for providing clean, comfortable rooms at affordable prices as well as a unique approach to Grants Pass lodging continues to this day.

In the Summer of 2013, the Inn was purchased by John and M

Spent a night passing through GP to Portland.  Discovered the Buona Sera Inn through Yelp.  New owners, Marty and John, we're welcoming.  They checked several times to see if we were happy with the room and service.  The room was very clean, homey and the bed was comfortable.  Their rates were a bargain.  Look forward to staying there again.

Spotlessly clean rooms (no seriously. I read the reviews and gave it the fingertip test like some hotel show  on TV for kicks - SPOTLESS), very very well maintained property. Comfortable mattress, clean fresh linens, convenient kitchenette (fridge+micro/no sink) that I unfortunately didn't stay long enough to use.  Would definitely stay again if I find myself in the need of lodging in the area. (It would have been 5 stars if the WiFi were faster, but I suspect it's adequate for the average guest)

A nice, clean, friendly motel on the edge of old downtown. Owned and decorated by real people with real personality, not a corporation. Allergy friendly with no carpets and wood floors. Each room is decorated with its own theme which, while not my taste were fun. On the main drag but with the fan on I could not hear the road. A great little motel in GP.

A sweet find, this is a little strip motel close to old down town and extremely clean.  The rooms have frig, micro, TV, wi-fi and AC.  Pricing was great.  Quiet rooms.  The furniture and decor has special touch.  We had a brass bead in our room.  Shower & bath were hand tiled.   The owners were very gracious and helpful in orienting us to Grants Pass.  We will definitely return on next trip to Grants Pass.

I just adored staying at this cute little motel.  Of course, I was deathly ill so could not fully appreciate it.  But the owners are really nice people, cute dog, kitschy-cute rooms.  The breakfast was actually even pretty decent, though very small.  Very reasonable.  Would stay again.

Buona Sera is a charming, old-school motel.  We were very pleased with the room - the kitchenette and mini-fridge are great amenities given the price, and everything was clean and comfortable.  The inn is also a nice walk (or a very, very short drive) from downtown Grants Pass.  Finally, the two owners (new nice June, I believe) are delightful.  We got restaurant and entertainment recommendations and plenty of attention (including keeping breakfast out late for us) despite a full house.  I'd definitely stay here again.

Stayed at Buona Sera on our way to San Francisco from Seattle.  Forgot my sonicare in the bathroom and they were nice enough mail it to me and pick up the postage.  Clean, inexpensive, kitschy little place on your drive.

Great stay!  The rooms are definitely quirky, but very clean.  The owners work hard to please.  They readjusted our rooms, gave us a great price, and made dinner reservations for us.  They were prepared to set us up with a card table to play cards and anything else we needed.  Stay here.

For a roadside motel, this one is top notch. Very clean, homey feeling, nice people checking you in. My daughter even got a homemade banana muffin.

In the 50's, motels were often homey, family-owned affairs that were referred to as motor courts. The Buona Sera evokes that era. Sure, the artwork was mismatched (covered bridge and the canals of Venice) but the room was spacious enough, sparkling clean and comfortable. The small kitchenette was a bonus. The only negative was a bit of traffic noise. If you are tired of cookie cutter corporate motels--and if you are looking for a reasonably priced night's stay in Grants Pass--the Buona Sera is your kind of place.

Everything from start to finish was superb.  I stayed in Room 11 "Starry Night" theme.  The rooms are a little small, but the space is more than sufficient.  It has a cozy, personal feel.  The owners were very nice and accommodating to any requests.  I found myself just chatting with the owners a number of times, and they were very helpful with recommending the Powderhorn Cafe for a great breakfast.

The bed was very comfortable, and the TV has direcTV which is very nice.  Free Wifi, refrigerator, microwave, hair dryer, and other amenities if you request them.  Prices are VERY reasonable.

I think this was probably the best experience I've ever had staying at a hotel/motel/inn, etc.

If/when I return to Grants Pass, I will not stay anywhere else.  If the owners are reading this review, THANK YOU!!!!

This immaculately clean, tastefully decorated, and modestly priced motel is a real winner. The owners greeted me like old friends and had taken care to give me a room by their office when they saw I was travelling alone. You get a decent continental breakfast too. Very much recommended.

I stayed here for two nights and really enjoyed the place.  Got a great rate of $79 a night.  The bed was clean and comfortable, the rooms are thoughtfully appointed and decorated and the owners are very nice, friendly and welcoming.

They offer a free continental breakfast in the morning.

Really sweet little motel.  This is not a big chain place with a corporate feeling - it has personality and an old fashioned vibe that is very enjoyable.

This was a very unique place to have a layover for the night. We were first attracted by the beautiful hue of turquoise that covered its walls and figured it wasn't a bad price compared to the other motels in the region. Each room has its own unique name- though we can't remember it. A very comfortable stay and very nice owners.

Stopped here mid way on our road trip to Portland. Very clean and comfortable stay. Super friendly staff and excellent service. Rates were also very reasonable.

The room was a little smaller than the pictures would indicate, but that's typical. Lots of traffic noise from the busy street was the only complaint. Definitely avoid the low numbered rooms if you can, maybe the others don't experience the noise as much.

Each of the rooms at this motel were a different configuration with a unique decorating theme. It was quirky and fun and overall would recommend for a quick stopover and a memorable experience!

Wonderful stay! Much better that the big "chain" hotels! The front desk is far more personal & friendly (they called me by name every time), great room, so many more TV channels, comfy bed, and all for a great price!
I'll definitely stay here ANY time I'm in town!

This place is great! I enjoy it for multiple reasons. First off, everything is so cleanly. Secondly, the owners are personable and truly take pride in their business. Finally, all of the extra services they provide make it an INCREDIBLE bargain. In our room there is a full kitchen stocked with silver wear, mugs, and wine glasses. The owners also came into the office past office hours (12 AM) and checked us in happily. Finally, there is a complimentary breakfast which you can eat outside at one of their adorable tables. As more of a Four Seasons type of gal, I would still recommend this place.

This is a great little Inn. The owners are so friendly and accommodating.  The rooms are great and have comfy beds.  We stayed in room 7 "morning glory".  It had a kitchenette, wine glasses and a cork screw! They have a continental breakfast in the morning, complete with little trays to bring plenty of goodies to your room for your family members that are still in bed.

The best place to stay in Grants Pass, by far. Very tidy, clean and comfortable rooms. Filled with charm and personality. The owners are very friendly. A continental b'fast is included. They have a Kurig K-cup coffee machine in the office, so bring your favorite brew, or select one of theirs.

This place was awesome! Owners were so great. They close up the office around 8-9 but my girlfriend and I called before and they waited for us to get in around midnight. How sweet is that?

We stayed at #10 the "Starry Night" room and it was fantastic.

Rooms are quaint but lots of amenities, and I really can't say how much I liked the owners. Next time we're going to Portland we'll definitely be back! Thank you!!!

John and Mardie are about as gracious, helpful, and friendly as hosts can be.  We were there many times before I finally got around to this review.  The rooms will be outfitted with very clean beds, towels, etc., and you cannot beat the reasonable price.  They will provide you with excellent Tillamook yogurt and keurig coffee in the morning.  The heater will keep you very warm while you watch a free movie on cable.  They have pretty fast free wifi and your car is conveniently parked right outside your door.  Best value around and, like I said the owners are GREAT!  Would definitely be back.

When I visit Grants Pass Oregon, I will stay in this Inn. It is clean! It has character and charm! The WIFI is excellent! The inn keeper is very polite and helpful. Their continental breakfast is a good start before going out to eat. Some of the things that could help our stay, would be, a noise barrier to suppress the street, and a better mattress.

This lovely place is a great value and more importantly, to me, it was immaculately Clean! First impressions upon driving by - might dissuade you, but the reviews here were so positive, I stayed two nights and it was Fabulous.

The room was perfect for me, traveling alone, and absolutely clean in every corner with fresh linens and towels. There was a small fridge and microwave if needed. The atmosphere was quiet and private. The continental breakfast was minimal, though enough, if you're on the run to get the day started.

The owners, Mardie and John, have been there for just over a year and are wonderful hosts, very helpful and personable. They go out of their way to do all they can to make sure your stay is a wonderful experience.

A few small things I would have liked as additions: a luggage rack to have my suitcase off the floor, a shelf for my stuff in the bathroom and a clock in the room, though I used my phone which was fine. The air conditioner was noisy but more importantly the room was COOL as the temps outside were 100+

I absolutely recommend this Inn.
I'll be returning on my next trip to Grants Pass.

An absolute gem. The rooms are classy, classic, and clean. The rooms carry a charm almost never found. The site is cozy and immaculate. The staff is warm hearted and most efficient. They know the area intimately and give great advice. If you wish to experience the charm of a gracious past try this wonderful location

We stopped by this place on the way to CA. The place seems very abandoned at night, but once you stay it will be otherwise. The room is very well designed from the inside. We stayed in a one bed room. It was very clean and organized. The bathroom could be very small for you. It has a little kitchen with a kitchen table and two chairs, and has some silverware and dishes for you to use. It also includes a microwave and a fridge.
The place has a good breakfast: coffee, some juice, cereal, and muffins.
The only downfall about this area is that it is not diverse, which made me uncomfortable at the beginning when i came to get my breakfast. I felt that i was not welcomed by the owner as my partner was.
However, it is due to the area is not used to a multicultural environment.
Overall, the place is quite, clean, nicely designed, and affordable.
I would give this place four stars if it is not for the reason stated above.

I was looking for a place to stay on the way to somewhere else. Just needed a place to sleep and didn't want to spend a lot. I searched several different cities and finally came across a hotel that seemed to meet my requirements.

Buona Sera Inn is a clean, quiet, comfortable, and safe place. It was the perfect resting place.

The rooms all have themes and different prices. You can find one to meet your budget. The office closes at 10pm and check in is by appointment only after that. Pay attention to your arrival time. I made it before 10 and check-in was quick and easy. We got room 5 ($64 with tax). I liked the colors and style of the room. It was big and clean. It also smelled really fresh too. They definitely scrub this place and keep things immaculate. The room has a small kitchen with appliances, dishes, and silverware. The bathroom is a little small. This is not a major problem but for a clumsy person like me I'm knocking things over left and right.

They also have a breakfast with a few healthy options included.

I've traveled a lot and I'm commissioned as a travel writer so I've seen and experienced a lot. The good, bad, and ugly. While this place was comfortable there is a definite lack of diversity in the area (not just the hotel but the city as well) which can be felt. It's not the obvious blatant stuff but the smaller things that do get noticed.

Still, the owners try hard and have pride in their property and their work.

Inexpensive, cute, quaint, and VERY clean room & bathroom (Eleganzia room is where I stayed). The innkeepers were very friendly, made me feel welcome. I'm writing this review right now, eating my complimentary Corn Pops cereal & drinking Keurig brewed coffee w/ vanilla creamer ferried to my room by moi on a little serving tray...& I'm sitting in my small, cozy, clean, warm room.

I could hear the traffic outside until it died down after midnight, & there is a very faint musty odor in the room, not bad, & not unexpected for an old building no matter how clean. I'm not complaining: both are to be expected & can't be fixed & I'm ok with that, but I'm telling you in case something like that would bother you. Their little courtyard is convenient, you park right near your room. You can tell the innkeepers take pride in their investment & really try to make a traveler feel comfortable.

If you're expecting the 5 star reviews to mean this place has amenities like a pool, gym, laundry, oversized rooms...move on or adjust your expectations. This place is PERFECT for someone like me: on a budget, hoping for a cheap place with no druggies, hookers, or cockroaches. so this very clean & friendly place was an unexpected gem for me. I like the hardwood floor: I have allergies & dusty or old carpets make them flare up.

Room had microwave (so I could make my nighttime mint tea, yay!), fridge, hairdryer, & even wineglasses. I was staying in Grants Pass for the night, thinking about sleeping in my car, but um, too cold! Too scary! Called Buona Sera @ 6:15 pm, spoke to very nice John, & booked the room for $59. Much better 'Plan B'.  :)
