Everything looks great on the surface: New, shiny, clean. But when you get beyond that, there's little to recommend. The walls are paper thin (the people above us woke us up "settling in," as the front desk clerk called it when I phoned to complain about the noise) and the sheets and bedding are of a quality far inferior to even more inexpensive hotels (Spring Hill Suites). Finally, the breakfast, at a hotel asking for a nightly rate of $140, is just unforgivable. I thought of bad camp food: orange processed cheese, instant eggs, cinnamon rolls that aren't good even though they are cinnamon rolls (how do you get those wrong?), and sausage patties made from what appears to be mystery meat. My wife grew up in the Soviet Union. She said it was the worst breakfast she'd ever had. Ever. For $140 a night, the hotel could set aside $5 per person, $3 or $4 even, and put together a decent spread. Instead, they think only of the bottom line, leaving me with an impression of the hotel that is no richer. I'll never stay at this chain again. Still, I would like to know if the person ordering this breakfast spread would eat there regularly.

First off...I don't stay at Holiday Inns (express or otherwise). In fact, I usually won't stay in anything less than a Marriott, but what are you going to do in Grants Pass? I was terrified when I made reservations and knew it was going to be a miserable stay.

I was profoundly shocked when we drove up to the property however. It's on a slight hill next to a busy road. Easy to find and well kept...on the outside. Check-in went flawless. The clerk was friendly, quick, and professional. The lobby was clean and comfortable with sofas and table lamps and reading materials (like a small library setting). Off the lobby was a dining room which served a free breakfast every morning.

We went up to our room on the third floor. There are elevators, but no bell staff to help with bags. The halls were clean and brightly lit. Our room was on the front of the building, so we had no traffic noise (which other reviews have claimed on the other side of the building). Our room had 2 queen beds, with sheeted down comforters and 4 pillows on each bed (2 firm & 2 soft). The room was VERY clean (this was my greatest fear of a discount chain motel). If I think it's clean...99% of the population will thinks it's nearly sterile. The bathroom looked like it had a new shower curtain on an extended, curved rod (giving the tub a roomier feel). There were more than enough towels. The soaps and lotions were sparse (1 small shampoo, 2 bars of soap, and a lotion). There is also a hairdryer, a microwave, a coffee maker (with tea and coffee provided) and a mini fridge. Everything was clean and fresh.

The beds were comfortable enough. The pillows were satisfactory. The bedding itself may have been a little excessive, even in January. We had to turn on the wall unit A/C to keep the room cool enough.

The only downside which keeps this property from getting 5 stars is the noise level. The floors and walls are made of cardboard and duct tape. We could hear even the slightest movement from upstairs and foot steps in the hall.  We had a service dog with us, and when she barked the noise could be heard at the end of the hall from a closed room. I can only imagine what they heard up and downstairs from our room. Thankfully, the dog isn't much of a barker, usually.

The next morning, we went downstairs for breakfast and were treated to not only the usual danish, bagels, and coffee...but cold cereal, fruit, english muffins, sausage, and omelets. The food was far from stellar, but when you just need to grab something quick before you jump back on the road, it was pretty substantial (and did I mention...FREE).

We will definitely stay here again...and bring earplugs for our next stay.

Holiday Inn Express hotels are adequate, but nothing fancy. Don't expect much more than a clean room and an average bathroom, with the usual hallway and wall drain noises, and you'll get what you paid for.

As an overnite stop on I-5, it's okay.

After an extremely long drive from Anaheim we were very pleased when we pulled up to the hotel.

It is nestled on a hill in and the lobby was very nice. The front desk staff were very friendly and checking in was a snap.

We had a family suite which had 2 queen beds in the main room and a third queen in a separate bedroom.

The bed was very comfortable with a great down quilt and comfy pillows.

Breakfast was well beyond standard continental of muffins and cereal.  They had eggs, sausage, biscuits etc.

This is a place I will most certainly stay at again.

Clean rooms, friendly staff. I stayed in the 4th floor and the shower was awful. No pressure or hot water. A $100 a night hotel should be better. Otherwise I would rate it higher.

IS THIS REALLY A HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS?

Having had an excellent stay in the HIE in Eureka the night before, I was a bit disappointed with this location.  Despite paying the same price for what looked like a brand new hotel room at the Eureka location, the GP location is very dated.  I realize this isn't the Ritz, but for $100+ per night, I expect it to be much better than a $50 Super 8 / Motel 6 room, which it was not.  At the bare minimum, I expected the beds to be as comfortable as the Eureka location.

The people at the front desk were very nice, but I would not stay here again until the place is updated and renovated.

The rooms are very loud, could hear everyone closing their doors all night, beds were very uncomfortable.  The three stars comes from the continental breakfast. Great choices, good food and very clean

Hotel was clean but a sad excuse for a holiday inn express. We always stay at holiday inn express so we know what to expect but this one was nothing like any we have stayed in. It looks like an older hotel that was turned into a holiday inn express. The real shocker was when asked where the pool was they informed us they share a pool with the best western next door.

Stayed two nights.  Walls are 'paper thin' and the footsteps of the smallest person in the room overhead sound like they're those of an elephant!  The staff is friendly and the hotel is nice.  Just the loud noise!

I stayed in two Holiday Inn Express locations exactly one week apart. The first was in the buzzing metropolis of Yreka, CA. The second was this one. They were very, very different, yet cost exactly the same for a monday night stay. Yreka got four stars for being clean, friendly, helpful, and so on. This one gets two for being, well, not.

Maybe HIE is doing a set of rolling renovations, and Yreka is new and shiny while Grant's Pass is still on the waiting list. Either way, everything about this location is dated, from the worn-down carpet to the faded upholstry and the stained counter tops. There's no gym/fitness center, and no pool (neither of which i planned to use, but for the price, and given that other locations provide them, it caught my attention). The employees seemed about as new and fresh as the hotel itself. The offering of 'soft' and 'firm' pillows was undermined by the fact that housekeeping apparently doesn't bother putting the pillows in the correct labeled pillowcases.

If you're looking at this hotel because of HIE's reputation and the location, keep on clicking. This place is not up to HIE's standards, and there are a half dozen other hotels and motels at the same highway exit.

On a trip from Oregon to California, I've decided to sleep at this place. 60 miles further down the road was a good Holiday Inn that I usually bunk at, but tonight, I felt lazy. So I just drove into this place.

    Bad choice.

Blinded by the name "Holiday Inn," this motel actually reflects the quality of the cheap, generic ones you see in small towns. The most important factor when reviewing any hotel is the bed. I give 1 star for it, because: a) the bed was obviously not properly washed, and SMELLED significantly, and b) the bed was too soft and plush, engendering a morning full of back pain. They only offered 2 pillows of the same type, whereas the ads say they will provide both firm and soft pillows.

The continental breakfast was decent, but I won't give it any marks, since my back was too aching to even think that morning.

The management really needs to do a better job of taking care of its facility, especially if it's going to charge $120 for a room per night. Otherwise, I could have just gone to Super 8 for half the price.

Before I start, I'm a Holiday Inn Express fan, a Priority Club member and to begin with, I had a job that was previously based on travel, travel, travel meaning this review *could* be biased...  The offset, my skeptical readers, is that I've been to a good many HI Ex to compare this one to and I do my best not to be brand-blind.  It sounds like this particular locale has been beaten on quite a bit and my experience wasn't anything that would move me to be as critical.  Moving on...

The grounds are well-kept and the parking is plentiful.  It's a little awkward getting into the property since the entrance is off a well-used intersection and the driveway is quite steep which slows down inbound and outbound cars.  The rooms, bathrooms, linens and carpets were clean.  The rooms have a small frig and microwave (yes!).  The air conditioning worked (which was a real bonus during the few days we were there... believe me).  They have a complimentary hot breakfast weekday mornings which is okay especially if you can be creative with what they give you... muffins, toast, pancakes, some kind of breakfast meat, some type of egg dish, biscuits and gravy, cinnamon buns, coffee, hard boiled eggs, cereal, milk, Yoplait, juice, bananas and a number of condiments such as sugar free syrup, peanut butter and honey.  Did I mention it's free?  And it's consistent.  Every HI Ex I've been to serves the exact... same... thing.  The wi-fi internet is also free, though a little pokey during peak times.  This property had a pool they shared with the Best Western next door.  I had a good time splashing back and forth between the jacuzzi and the heated pool at night.  The people at the front desk are as helpful and as friendly as you could ask for.  They acknowledged my Priority Club membership and I didn't have to ask them for pool towels.  There's is a laundry room on the ground floor and a business center that doesn't feature a computer that's been so locked down you can't even access a site you actually want to get to.  They don't charge for printing things either and they have mailing supplies if you need to ship something.

On the down side, the neighbors can get a little noisy (doors slamming by 7:30 am) and we had some loud ones on this stay.  You can definitely hear them creaking the floorboards in the hallway, so I'll bet it gets noisy if you have a room below the 4th floor.  The toilet flush was a little weak trying to suck down excess toilet paper and the beds are not particularly comfortable, but are tolerable.  Also, they have no fitness room, gym aficionados, so you'll just have to get out there and row a few miles down the Rogue.

There's nothing particularly memorable about this place to give it a 4 star but it's good value for the price, it's clean and you can save some bucks by going for the free breakfast grub.

This property has all the features you expect of a Holiday Inn Express: clean rooms, comfortable furniture, free wifi, continental breakfast. Unfortunately the construction in this property is shabby, leading to a noise problem. The floor in our room was uneven and creaked as we walked over it. We could hear every footstep in the room above us. Thankfully our upstairs neighbors kept reasonable hours.

If I could give minus stars I would!  These guys have no clue what they are doing!! Two years in row we have come to GP for conferences. Both times they have messed up our reservations! This year we had 12 rooms booked 2 months in advance. Each time we called to confirm they changed their story and the amount of rooms we have booked. We just got off the phone to see if we had any rooms and they now have zero and were EXTREMELY rude about it. We have 43 people traveling to GP tomorrow w/ zero rooms!!  FML

Based on the previous reviews I assume it was before they Remodeled recently.  Very fancy and clean.  Had an awesome free breakfast with sausage,  eggs,  pancakes,  coffee,  juice. They also had cereal,  fruit,  bagels and other goodies.  I will come back if I'm in the area.

This is our second time at this HIE, and we should have learned our lesson the first time and avoided this place. The staff is not very friendly. In fact when we arrived to check in the front desk girl was on her phone and did not even acknowledge us until she told whoever she was talking to "I have to work now".

The room are WAY outdated and old. The facilities need to be updated. For $100+ a night, this is not getting what you paid for.

If you can make the drive to Medford, there is a better HIE there.

I came up to visit my grandfather in Grants Pass, and chose the Holiday Inn Express. I don't understand why there are such low ratings, I would recommend it to anyone. The staff were the nicest people around, and rooms are in great condition. Clean, friendly, great pool. The breakfast is average, like expected, but everything else is great. I very much enjoyed my stay!

We just stopped by because we were driving up the coast.  Great place with great rates, especially for military/government.  They also have great deals if you have a pet, which we did.  It's only $10, which is super cheap, in my opinion.  The rooms are quote large as well.  We loved our stay here.

The breakfast is average, about what you'd expect.  The staff was super nice and I would definitely stay here again.

My grandfather lives in grants pass so I always stay here when I visit. I have no idea why the rating is so low! There is a gym, the rooms are clean and the staff some of the friendliest around.
Kimber, the house keeping supervisor is one of the most helpful people I have ever met and always on top of her game.
The rooms never smell and nothing is old, maybe 3 years ago the hotel was different? It certainly is nice now!

But if you want some tips from a girl who travels 1. Always try to get the top floor so you don't have to hear people walking above you. 2. Ask to not be next to the ice maker or maintenance room. I know this is all basic stuff, but it never hurts to remind people some things to consider.

There is a best western across the way as well. But though cheaper it isn't as safe and less amenities. What can I say? As a female traveling alone I like feeling more secure.

Lets face it, Holiday Inn isn't known for being a upscale grandeur hotel. So what you get is a family oriented, or an easy business trip vibe joint to feel comfy and safe, get a quick free breakfast, get a good nights sleep, and then move on. Those who want more then the obvious that a Holiday Inn provides...should go elsewhere. It's not rocket science! :)

This might as well be a brand new hotel though, as it looks like it, feels like it, and smells like it! Fab WHOLE hotel remodel complete as of last month.

I give it four stars and not five due to two things.
    1. Manager lady who checked me in had no smile or voice. I got the silent treatment. She was teetering on being a meanie face.

    2. Breakfast is not the greatest. But again, don't come here thinking for a four star experience! So stick with the fresh fruit, bagels and cream chz, and yogurt. Great for grab and go, not very good for eggs or bacon.

I love the king bed, it's firm to my liking and lots of squishy pillows! Yay!
Great location right off freeway, and close to restaurants and stores. Overall, a relaxing and nice place. Just based on outside looks alone, (shallow right lol) cuz I've never stayed anywhere else in Grants Pass before, this looks like the best place to stay in town. I'm judging the book by its cover for all other hotels in the area.

    We will be back!

Awesome awesome awesome! Loved the staff, the rooms were clean and beds were hard to get out of in the morning.  Nice continental breakfast in the morning.  Staff was extremely friendly & accomodating.  Lots of restaurants in the area within walking distance.  Great place to stop while doing a road trip along the I-5! Would absolutely stay here again if I needed to in the future.

If you are looking for a place while driving through this HIE is fine. More than one night would not be pleasant.
I showed up at 2:48 (check in at 3:00). I told her I knew was a little early but was wondering if I could check in. She said probably but don't always expect that because check in is only at 3:00pm. Ok!?! Is that a yes or no? She tossed my card and license back at me on the counter instead of handing them back.
Room was ok. The door to room was concerning. It did not seal close. The light from the halls were very visible around door and I could clearly hear all conversations happening in the hall (1st Floor).
I was here for work so fortunately my stay was not long in Grants Pass.
Typical pre packaged foods for continental bfast. Coffee is good!

Thanks for the great stay at Holiday Inn Express in Grants Pass. We were there over the holidays, and my daughter ended up being sick while we were there. They were sympathetic and helpful as far as making sure that I had what I needed to use the laundry facilities (which were nice and clean). The front desk staff was really great.

Unfortunately, with my girl being sick, we didn't really get to enjoy the hotel at all. But our room was clean and quite comfortable, which was a blessing under the circumstances. Good rate, convenient to the freeway (we didn't notice freeway noise - we were on the front side of the hotel).

Nice Holiday Inn. I travel a lot for work and this place is a great spot in southern Oregon to spend a day or two. My room was big, bed was comfortable and what a view of the mountains. Great work space and fast internet.

My one complaint, no working hot tub or pool. It's strictly outside, but it's late March and 70 degrees. After a long drive to get here, I could always use a dip in the hot tub. And it was closed both the days on my visit.

So far everything has been excellent. There was a mix up with my reservation through booking.com and the general manager and other front desk staff were so patient and helpful in getting things taken care of. Later, the same evening of my check in, the front desk woman called me and told me I had another reservation booked (probably a second one by accident) and offered to cancel it for me and waive any fees that would have been associated. I thought that was very kind.

The room looks just like the photos and is neat and clean. Instant hot water in the shower.  It has a fridge and microwave too. Only complaint would be a section of the hallway smelled like cigarette smoke.
