    Road Trip Rules #2

Don't stay in a motel right off the highway.
They are creepy, noisy and inhabited by characters from a Sam Sheperd play ... you don't  think he made that shit up, do you?
No - dude went road trippin' then headed to San Francisco to write it all down.

Redwood Motel is more like a Beth Henley play; beautifully landscaped pool area, with very sweet,  helpful, lonely hearts- type desk clerks. And, of course, lots of redwood trees.

Recently remodeled grounds are very pretty.
Rooms are clean as a whistle, and include a small fridge, microwave and coffee maker.
My room smelled really stale and I couldn't get the smell to go away - smelled sorta like a stale ice tray.
Our pet friendly room had tile floors and with the cable TV; we couldn't have been more comfortable for the price.
internet access is free - but there is a $25 deposit required for the cable. I don't know if I needed the cable or not - I decided to pass when it turned out the plug was across the room from the table, and behind a heavy piece of furniture.

The continental breakfast left much to be desired: old looking fruit, cheap costco type muffins and really rank coffee.
I was prepared with my dinner leftovers and a can of starbucks double shot, I know better than to count on a free motel breakfast.
    And now you do too.

This was my first trip to Grants Pass. I thought the Redwood Motel was wonderful. The girl at the desk was very friendly and helpful when asked about things to see and do here. My room was very clean and quiet. Maybe if you get a room that allows pets you should expect some sort of odor...if nothing else than from your own animal. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to everyone.

It's not the worst motel I've ever stayed in but it was very close. The first thing that was obvious was the very rude lady at the front desk. Second was the brown spots and yellow stains on the sheet. I asked for clean sheets and it looks like they flipped the sheet over wrong side out. Thirdly the shower drain is plugged and you end up standing in a foot of water by the time your done taking a shower.  I can't recommend this place and won't be coming back.

I hate motels, however finding yellow stains all over the sheets and a dirty ice tray definitely made my stay here less desirable. What makes this place worse is the lady who works at the front desk... She really needs some lessons in customer service or she should really find another job. I will not stay here again.

I don't really know how to feel about this place. It seems like one of the best bets in Grants Pass, but that's not saying much. The grounds are really nice, and the rooms are decently decorated. I was turned off by the mildew in the shower, despite the otherwise clean room. My parents were next door, and their room was more recently remodeled, and the bathroom lacked the mildew that was in my room, so it's a bit of gamble. The room had a musty smell--just like a cabin that's been closed for too long. The wireless wasn't working in my room at all; we had to have our HotSpot (accidentally left behind) FedEx'd to us because the network wasn't showing up on any of our computers (in any of our three rooms). The sheets are less-than-stellar--scratchy, even.  The red-haired housekeeping lady is really, really nice, and she seems to take great pride in her job. Kuddos to her! In the end, "Meh. I've experienced better" describes it perfectly.

I'm rather surprised by some of the really bad reviews this place has gotten, because my wife and thoroughly enjoyed our stay there! We had one of the upstairs two room suites, 2 big TV's, a fridge, sink, microwave, jacuzzi tub, 2 sided gas fire place, comfy bed. Breakfast was simple, bagels, other pastries, cereal, juice, coffee, fresh fruit, but it was fine. Room was clean, towels were soft. Yeah, it's located right between two of the city's busiest streets, but we had hardly any noise in our room. The grounds are really clean, right below our room they had a couple little watercourses, beautiful landscaping. Our room was set back off the street quite a bit, and we faced 7th street, maybe the rooms on the other side facing 6th and closer to that even busier street are noisier? From what I saw, virtually all the motels are along the 6th street corridor.

Motels simply do not get any better.  We stumbled on this by accident and were beyond delighted.  The rooms were so delightful and newly remodeled.  Can't say enough good about the property.  It is clean, charming, comfortable and the "lodge" decor just rocks.  This is a must stay!

    The worst !

The carpets are filthy - my feet stuck to the carpeting!!

Cheap linen.  I washed the sheets & towels myself, in a mild soap and told the cleaning people to not change them - they didn't listen to me, and I had to spend a lot of money washing them again.

The pool area should be nice but they blast cheezy music thus ruining the only redeeming quality of this dump.

    Junk food for the "breakfast"

    And VERY RUDE desk people.

Don't let the nice exterior fool you - behind the facade is a nightmare.

I was in town for a family reunion and stayed here for several days.  I woke up at 7:30 am each morning to the sound of saws and hammering by work crews in the room next door. I was refused a room change or a discount. I had my nephews come over to visit me for a couple hours and was charged $5 per person just to have them come by to visit. "If you don't like it, you can leave", I was told by the manager. Seriously.

Even though I didn't have a car there the manager, Shelly (a real piece of work), told my nephew to move his car from in front of my room because it wasn't registered...even though there wasn't a single other car in the lot at the time!

The continental breakfast is great if you like stale cereal and week old pastries. There are plenty of other places to stay in Grants Pass and I'll stay in any place but this on my future visits.

Clean and comfortable and great if you're traveling with a dog. Love that they have special pet rooms that have tile (instead of carpet). Bed was comfortable. Price was reasonable. There's a continental breakfast included, but we decided to pass on that. Great areas for pets to run around and stretch their legs.

An ok kind of place. At 11 pm and not too many options left on the table we stumbled into this motel. The room was clean and the shower was super good. It didnt take forever to get hot water and it was very clean. At only $70 for a one night stay was worth the price.

We didnt stay around for the free continental breakfast, but previous reviewers said it was just junk food! lol.

We stayed last night here and I was amazed. Considering it was a downtown Grants Pass, OR, this motel is easily the best value in the area. The room was ample with good amenities. The grounds manicured and the pool/hot tub area was a sort of oasis like setting. Yes, you are on a busy city street, but for $125/night I was very impressed. As to the room, large flat screen, full cable, firm (but not hard) bed and the room decor wad excellent. All things considered we were very pleased.

We stayed here for 4 days (in the suite) for a large event and booked a room block of about 20 rooms. The suite was very nice, but we had a lot of bad service experiences in general. It's not that staff weren't friendly, but they seemed put-upon to have guests. One good example is one of our guests asked the front desk for an extra glass so they could do a toast in their room. They were told "no, only 2 glasses per room." Such a small gesture could have gone a long way. I also asked if they had a freezer I could put something in for just a couple of hours. "No, the freezer is for employees only." At one point we were casually chatting in the lobby (not about breakfast), and as we're walking out the person working yelled "If you guys want breakfast, it's too late, we put it away." Bad service at every turn, but maybe in time it will improve. They also came to clean the rooms at 9am, which annoyed some of our guests. If you're staying here for a night, I think it's probably good, but I definitely would not recommend booking a block of rooms for any occasion.

Just spent 3 wonderful days at my 55th year class reunion,  and then I got home! And much to my surprise we had hitchhikers, sugar ants in every thing we owned. We had told the maid Saturday morning that we had see a few, and she assured us it would be taken care of. Have stayed there many times before, even back in the 50's but won't be staying there again, and by the way the breakfast sucks, lower the room prices and skip the breakfast.

Worst hotel I have ever stayed in. We got a knock at the door at 9:45am asking us to leave even though checkout wasn't until 11. I ignored them and went about my business packing and getting ready to go. Then a bit later while I'm in the jacuzzi tub the manager of the hotel forces the door open and demands to stand there with the door open until we leave. I am naked in the tub in the living room area at this point. So needless to say I have to get out of the tub and remove her from the room and into the parking lot with nothing on but bubbles from the bath!!! I offered to pay a late checkout fee or even for an additional night but there was no reasoning with this woman. She ended up calling the cops to have me removed for indecent exposure!!!!! They showed up laughing of course and assured me that it wasn't the first time dealing with this hag. We had not been partying or being loud just a normal couple on vacation. I hope this review steers everyone clear of that hell hole!!!!!

i should have read the reviews first!  The one star is for a beautifully landscaped property.  I could tell they really really tried hard to make it look great and they did a great job.

I was so disappointed in this hotel.
Room clean-up almost non-existent even after discussion with night manager and day manager.  Bed thrown together like someone was in a hurry.  trash cans not emptied. floor not vacuumed.  dishes not washed.  And I was told that the person who cleaned our room was the best in the hotel.
    i will NEVER return.

Been staying here over the last 20 years and it has been great every time and our last stay was no exception. The pool is what the kids look forward to, as its got a real deep end and is salt water. The grounds are immaculate , as are the rooms. It's pricey, but the value is there if you enjoy the pool and grounds. Honestly,if you just need a bed and head out early, there are better values in town. But for the what we look for in lodging , this place is hard to beat.

Always nice staff and the rooms are clean.  I'm not casting any stones with 3 stars; just saying if you're tired and need a quiet place, this is it.
May I suggest you improve the breakfast offerings with fresh fruit, good cold cereal selection, toast, and yogurt?

Redwood Hyperion was not what I was lead to believe.  Checked in on June 20 to check out on on the 22nd,  My sister arrived ahead of me from a different state and asked to be allowed to sit by the pool and read her book.  Sandy, the front desk clerk could not see her way clear to use her pool reader card to open the pool door to allow my sister to sit and read.  Sandy told her to come back later when I was there.

When I arrived 3 hours later I took issue with Sandy kickin my sister to the curb to read,  She shoved papers in my face and told us she was 86 ing us as that was HER perogative as the manager while Shelly Beaudin was out of town on a 16 year long wait vacation.  As we discussed where we should go since she was kicking us out, she relented to let us stay.

Rooms were clean, however; the balcony rooms, one of which I requested was unavailable due to an overflowing toilet.  Six balcony rooms unavailable due to one overflowing toilet?  Saturday, June21 guess who is there  in those balcony rooms "PEST CONTROL".  I asked an employee why pest control was servicing the balcony rooms and I was told "maintenance".  I think BED BUGS.  BED BUGS are the only reason I can think why a block of rooms would not be available.

The grounds are lovely but I will not stay again.

Breakfast is carb city, possible bugs in the room, front desk Sandy will kick ya to the curb, bathroom doors barely clear the toilets.

We stayed at the new, newer, newly remodeled?? "Redwood Hyperion Suites".

The room was nice, freshly updated with cable & wi-fi. Although I don't understand why you didn't spend the extra $50.00 in the bathroom to give it the same feel. Poor lighting, drab paint & a shower curtain rod that's falling down. The Exterior & Grounds are very nice and recently been upgraded.

The little interaction I had with the staff went ok.

The continental breakfast is nothing to write home about (pastries, juice & cereal) but it was served in a beautiful room.

For $30.00 a night less (and without the waterfalls in the yard) I could have stayed at the Best Western which has a restaurant on an adjoining property. When I made the reservation I had tried to upgrade to a larger room, thankfully that was unavailable.

They have made a huge investment in the property & with a little work on the creature comforts they could give a "wow - experience" instead of a "meh - experience".

It's a nice place and 3 stars may be fairer. Which is a shame based on the improvements they could be getting 4 or 5 stars. Instead I left feeling like i'm being charged a higher price point to provide a ROI for your facility upgrade while receiving a "hotel chain" experience.

Still nice rooms and nice grounds, though Not the value it once was. My first visit was such a pleasant surprise. Second visit a little higher cost, but not outrageous. Third visit, they have doubled their prices... will find something else.

Came up Saturday and stayed till Monday for a funeral. The room was nice and clean with everything I needed. The staff was awesome. Everyone from behind the desk to the servers for breakfast. I had a very pleasant stay. I thank them all for making me feel appreciated.
