newer appliances. mostly effective internet connection, i wouldn't download anything, but it will perform basic email and social app functions in a time that won't break your patience (most of the time).
it was a strange time to stay at any hotel in the east, with sandy moving in many businesses were under extra pressure. things were handled well, and calmly. mr. will and the other front desk attendees were charming and kind.
all of the hotel amenities were in good working order. there are working washers and dryers which were well needed by the third week in of travel. vending machines. a small, but well kept exercize room featuring bike, treadmill and elyptical.
it always smelled nice. the bed was cozy and comfy. all the kitchen appliances and cookwear. a flat screen television, which does only offer a small random assortment of channels, but all of which are delivered in premium quality.
the thermostat is an off window unit that keeps the temperatures stable near the bed, which i guess is where you need them the most. the bathroom is kept warm by the excessively heated hallway.
i liked that were two seperate seating spaces. one a desk, presumably for work or electronic. and then a seating area off of the kitchen for eating and even a recliner for catching up on your reading, or in my case, holding your suitcase.
breakfast is a minimal grab and go. but they usually have some fruit on hand and a few delicious flavored creamers. what they lack, they make up for with their attention to details.
overall, candlewood did a good job of providing a pleasant space to stay.

What fantastic place to stay if you are visiting Pittsburgh. I was here on business but didn't want to deal with downtown traffic. So I found this extended stay place minutes from the airport. Easy to find, with dozens of amenities surrounding it. I mean IKEA, Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Target, McDonalds, a huge Mall within a 2 minute drive... EVERYTHING. Not to mention the countless restaurant options within walking distance.
Now for the hotel! The most friendly people I have ever dealt with in, not only a hotel setting, but any professional setting. Every time I walked by the desk, i would get a "hey, how's it goin'? Anything you need??" Just a great atmosphere. I loved coming back to my hotel every night. And that doesn't happen too often.
The room was very clean and decent size. Bathroom was very clean and everything worked.
So overall, I absolutely cannot wait to come back to Pittsburgh!

Writing my review after my first night of three staying here because so far everything has been great! The front desk (Melissa) was very friendly, when I mentioned I would be on an apartment search she took the initiative and gave me the wifi code right away. she understood that I was coming in from a long drive and make sure the check in process was quick and easy. These are the employees that should be praised because they are why I got such a good first impression.
Now on to the room, when I walked in, I was so impressed. The flooring in the kitchen portion is hardwood and everything was clean. I normally always double check sheets to make sure they aren't dirty or smelly when I first check into a room. The bathroom was clean and good size. There is also a leather couch for one and a leather computer chair at the desk. The microwave is not a cheap little one and actually a good size clean one. Other small things I liked was pot, coffee maker with coffee, blow dryer, and even a laundry basket.
Other amenities they offer is a gym, a community cupboard where you put the money for the items in the box (honor system), laundry facility, and free wifi. There is plenty of food restaurants around and shops nearby.
I would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it.

Not the best place I've ever stayed in, but it is close to the airport, near a ton of shopping and restaurants and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. "Suites" basically means a hotel room with a small kitchenette added in. Although I reserved and received a nonsmoking room, I think that meant that no one was physically smoking it in while I was there because the smell was bad. Fortunately, my stay was short with a late check-in and an early checkout.

I am currently staying here and really like it. I hate the traffic in the area trying to get into the city in the morning and back to the hotel at night Is dreadful.
My only issue with this hotel is when the guest services team came into my room (once a week) they did not change my bedding which was slightly annoying but I just let it go and did it myself the following week.
The staff is very friendly and helpful and I actually enjoy talking to each member it have met. Some really friendly people stay here as well if you are outgoing enough to say hello.
They have a movie borrow system which is nice as well not the most up to date movies but hey it's something for guests.
The last time I tried to workout here the elliptical was broken but it may be fixed by this point and I just don't know it.
Overalls I really like this hotel and plan to stay for the entire time my company will be having me in pittsburgh.

I had a reservation for a non smoking room. Upon arriving I was told my room had been given away. "First come first serve"- DESPITE my reservation. I was told there was only one room which was smoking. I carry an epipen for allergies to smoke and explained how that was not possible and was told if I didn't take the room I'd be charged a no show. Now, I'm standing there at the counter so I clearly showed. You gave away my reservation and at 10:30 pm you have the nerve to tell me to stay in the room which will cause a trip to the ER or be charged because of YOUR error? I told everyone at the conference about it, not to mention all the travelers I know. There was NO excuse for this to happen and this hotel should have paid for me to move. WE had to spend an additional $100 to find another hotel last minute. Shame on you Candlewood!!

This was a one night stopover on a drive down to Memphis. I was really unimpressed with the hotel. The place was cheap enough which I guess was nice and the front desk woman was very polite, but other than that, I was very disappointed. The rooms were dingy, clearly very old. The refrigerator in my room had marks all over it from past guests. The room smelled like residual smoke even though it was a non-smoking room, which really annoyed me. The air conditioner fan was really loud and the fridge was even louder. The pillows were almost useless (though that's pretty common at hotels). All-in-all I would not go back, nor would I suggest anyone stay here. There were many other hotels in the area and one could easily go to one of them.

I was very pleasantly surprised by the Candlewood Suites near the Pittsburgh Airport.
1. Location 8/10 - It's about 15 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh...but smack dab in the middle of a suburban shopping mecca. There is just about every store you could want to shop in and just about every type of restaurant you could want to eat in...all within a mile of the hotel.
2. Hotel Room 8/10 - The room was spacious and clean. We got the 1BR suite with a sofa-bed. There was plenty of room and privacy. The room was clean and well stocked. Downsides...the pillows were a little flat and it appeared the blanket for the sofa-bed hadn't been washed.
3. Service 6/10 - Check-in and Check-out were very smooth. They have an area downstairs where you can check out movies. So we got a movie to watch. Our only problem is that we asked for additional pillows. The front desk person said he'd bring them up, but he never did.
Overall...it's a good hotel for a fair price.

Pros: The room is clean and comfortable. They provide all the amenities (stove, fridge, sink, microwave, dishes, etc.) to make your stay as close to home as possible. There are no ice makers in the building so they went one step and provided refrigerators with ice makers, if you turn on as soon as you enter you will have ice within a few hours.
Check in staff was friendly, non talkative, but friendly. locating your room was easy and the hallways were clean and they send you a welcoming text once you're settled in your room... nice touch of customer service.
The hotel is surrounded by a plethora of activity from restaurants to retail shops, so you'll have no problem locating things.
Cons: Arrived in the evening and there were no lights on in the parking lot or on the sign, so almost missed the entrance. Not too inviting or friendly to say the least. So after checking in I inquired why no lights to identify your building? Clerk said, "It's darker earlier so they'll come on later" Ummm, well, yeah! It is darker sooner and that started in September management should have prepared for that in September. But anywho...he wasn't rude I figured that he was just relaying what was told to him as an excuse.
Also, when I entered my room it smelled like cigarettes and the air was on full blast, which only held the smell making it that much more stronger. I was able to retrieve some "febreeze like" in a bottle air freshener from the clerk to spritz down the curtains, carpet and bed spread ---that did the trick.
Driving around at night was a challenge as noticed there were many signage that didn't have a light attached to it so we couldn't see what they read until we were almost under them or there was a business complex close by that was lit up making reading it a little less cumbersome. (That's not a hotel rant, but a Pittsburgh rant)
All in all great hotel and service and would definitely stay at another Candlewood Suites or IHG affiliate.
Follow up: And I was charged less than originally reserved for...that's certainly an added incentive for me to patronize this establishment again!

This is NOT a hotel for nonsmokers'. Even though it advertises as Free smoke hotel, it is completely saturated with the smell of cigarette smoke. My husband and I have stayed at other Candlewood hotels because of the clean environment that they offer. We have never experienced what we encountered at this hotel in Pittsburgh. After one night in a room on the 3rd floor, where everything from the walls to the carpet, is saturated with the smell of smoke, we moved to a different room on the 2nd floor. But the smell not as bad as on the 3rd floor, it's still bad. The management of this hotel is advertising something that is not being delivered. Not recommended!

My stay here was several months long, and overall, I have not been impressed by this hotel. Yes, I know it is cheap, they've got that. I guess that means they just cut the corners a bit to make it more economical for you.
First, the cons:
Just so you are aware, they do NOT have any sort of breakfast available. The only thing they have are frozen/refrigerated type things in the laundry/gym/snack area (yes that's all one room) that you can purchase at an additional charge.
Which leads my to my next point. I haven't even bothered using the "gym". It has a few treadmills and a weight machine I believe, but it is awkwardly located in the laundry room/snack bar where everyone is constantly walking past. They really need to separate these three areas.
The Internet is SLOW AS HELL. I asked for a room closer to the wifi router, considering I'd be here for a few months and they told me I was right next to it already.
They do have free laundry, however there are only about six washers and dryers, so sometimes in the evening it can be hard to find an opening.
The carpets are dirty.
The floors in the hallways seem to be uneven and pocketed under the carpet - strange.
The walls and ceilings don't seem to be very sound-proofed. I can't usually hear people talking in other rooms, but I constantly hear people walking above me and slamming around which is annoying.
They only clean the room/restock towels once a week. I just happened to be in my room on one of the days they were supposed to clean it. They skipped over it and didn't clean it for another whole week.
I had something dry cleaned, and the guy at the front desk didn't appear to know how their dry cleaning service worked. No biggie, but you should probably know that.
They have free washers and dryers (albeit not very many).
Service / front desk was always super friendly, never had a problem with them.
And although the carpets are dirty, the rooms look nice, and seem to be recently renovated to some point.
Oh and it's cheap.

The only real downside is the small rooms and lack of water pressure. However they might appear s all due to the large work station. By far the largest desk I have ever seen in a hotel room. Great from the professional that brings work with them to the room. The rooms are pretty nice, to include a half kitchen with all the cookware you need. The water in the shower felt like running through a sprinkler halfway turned on. The gym is fairly nice, for hotels anyways.
