Just visited this hotel for a conference.  The restaurant was good and the conference space was very nice. The hotel was clean and comfortable.

Old & dated crown plaza with seriously over priced low quality breakfast buffet but good location for shopping & subway system

Got a more than decent rate on this hotel online. The room was comfortable, very clean, but didn't really have any special amenities.

This hotel is in a great area. There were good restaurants within a short distance. I would stay at this hotel again but overall it isn't anything too special.

I like where this hotel is located.  Right by South Hills Village Mall. Access to shopping is easy!
The staff have few customer service skills. They don't acknowledge you right away, talk amongst the staff, and are kinda just there.
The rooms are run down. When they are cleaned, they use a lemony sticky scent that is nauseating. It smells like a car air freshened. This is very displeasing.
Room service is yucky. It just looks bad. Old plates and plastic wrap on things verses a lid.
Location= great. Everything else= :(

With the construction, it's not the easiest place to get to and even tougher in the morning to head into the city.  The rate I got at hotels.com was $85, which seemed a little high, considering the distance to the city.

The hotel room itself was well-maintained, air conditioning worked well, good quality toiletries including a night kit, vending machine was not expensive, and clean hallways.  It is a mid-rise hotel but the elevators were fast and you didn't have to take the stairs outside.  There are a lot of conference facilities there which were being used on the Monday morning I left.  There are plenty of retail amenities nearby within walking distance and the parking lot was pretty convenient.  The value and inconvenient location brought it down to a 3 star level for me.

The staff are extremely helpful and attentive, especially the gentlemen on the evening crew.  Nothing but positive experiences with the staff.  It's not quite as upscale as I was expecting, but it is clean and updated, so it was fine!  PJ's service was slow and the breakfast buffet was not well-stocked, so only go there if you have a voucher with your room.  Will definitely stay again when in the area because of the staff and great location!

Never stayed in the south area of Pittsburgh and was worried about the traffic towards the bridge, however wasn't bad at all.
Front desk manager was very nice, found me a quiet room(took the time to do so) and also sent up a refrigerator.  Free hot coffee all day and night in lobby!
Free parking, Wi-Fi, in room coffee pods, quiet and clean.
Near Chipotle, Trader Joe's, Chick Fil A, etc.
Would stay again.

This is a great place to stay if you are in the area!  The staff was very friendly and helpful, the room was very clean and spacious.  But I have to say my best experience was after our stay.  I forgot my hair straightener in the bathroom, and when I called 2 days later they told me it was in lost and found and that they will ship it the next day.  They did as they said.  Not only did I receive me straightener quickly, they also sent me all my bobbypins I used for the wedding I was in!  Great hotel!

I booked this hotel super last minute (like the day before my arrival), so I unfortunately didn't get some stellar rate or anything. It was okay, but definitely NOT worth the amount I paid.  Also, I'm not sure exactly how close this is to the downtown area of Pittsburgh, but it seemed a little out of the way. That wasn't a factor for me, but it would probably be good to note that it doesn't appear to be centrally located to the downtown area.

I'd give it a 2+ stars because the hotel room itself was clean, well-maintained, and the products were plentiful. The wifi was strong, too. There was also a pretty basic continental breakfast that was included with the room price. However, for the price I paid for that room, I don't think it was worth it.

I was required to stay at the Pittsburgh Crowne Plaza for a business meeting in the hotel.

I requested a quiet room off the main corridor but am placed next to the elevators.
It is not a problem to move as the hotel is largely empty, but this tells me alot about the way the place is managed.

The suites are large but poorly maintained.

The carpet in my room is stained.

I clearly see a prior occupant's glitter makeup scattered on the carpet under the living room table, which violates the prime directive of all well operated hotels, which is to make each guest to feel they are the first to occupy the room.

The bath tub drain is stopped up so it fills with water when I am taking a shower.
The tub surround is cheap melamine panel, not tile.

The worst part of the experience is the room air conditioning.
It switched on at 4:30 am at a 60 decibels noise level and stayed on for an hour.
This ruined my sleep.

Finally, topping off my negative experience at the Pittsburgh Crowne Plaza - the desk clerk refuses to honor the free breakfasts that had been included with my room reservation.

Given that every statement made in this review is factual and not exaggerated, why would you want to stay at this hotel?

It's a CP yes, but it leaves a bit to be desired, even in the "not quite really 3 stars" category. We were only here for 2 days but the bar is lackluster and the regulars are, well, lackluster as well. It's kind of removed from the main Pittsburgh scene, whatever that is.

The rooms were fine, maybe bottom 1/3 for a normal CP but totally acceptable. Just don't expect much more than a holiday inn and for gods sake - buy beer at the gas station and avoid the bar and it's gouge-y prices. And (I'm sorry to say,) just get the F out of Pittsburgh ASAP. There's a reason it starts with "Pit..."
