Pet friendly and clean with a good breakfast. Would stay here again.

Dangerous, Dirty, and Prison Yellow...all you need to know!
I stayed at MainStay Suites Pittsburgh April 26-27. I have stayed in many hotels over the years, and this was my absolute worst experience.
I was assigned to room 338 at check in, went to my room, and the key-card did not work. I returned to the front desk and they rescanned the card. I returned to room 338 and this time the key worked, but to my surprise someone was already in this room! There was luggage in the room, the bed was not made, and clothes were lying out. This is incredibly dangerous. Had a person actually been in the room (instead of just their possessions) it could have lead to a physical altercation.
The front desk then reassigned me to room 337. Once inside the room, I noticed that there was no remote control for the TV, and there were no ashtrays (yes, it was a smoking room). I went to the front desk and asked for a remote control and an ashtray. The woman at the desk told me they did not have a remote, and that I should operate the TV manually via the controls on the side of the set. In addition, they did not have an ashtray.
In addition, there were bags of trash in the hotel hallways, and I spotted a police officer inside speaking with a guest (no idea what he was doing there, but never a good sign).
To top it off, the hotel room was painted "prison yellow."
If it was possible to award zero-stars I would, avoid this place like the plague.

Yelp is not letting me check in even though I am writing this from within the hotel.
Place is clean, newish but still a little depressingly spartan. Reminds me of a college dorm apartment, especially the putty and wood trimmed kitchen cabinets- 1985s best!
Staff is very unprofessional. Not rude, just very unpolished, like did they have any corporate training at all? Why are they vacuuming the hallway outside my door at 830 pm?
My first stay at a Mainstay Suites. Got the room for free through Choice Rewards. Would stay here again for free but if paying would go somewhere else a little more nurturing!

I stayed here with the moving truck when I first arrived in the area a week and a half ago. I had to have somewhere to hang my hat while I moved. I've stayed in a ton of "suites" hotels over the years and honesty, this is one of the nicest and well kept. The concierge was friendly and helpful, the hotel cat was cute, the room was very clean, the WiFi was great and reliable, the kitchen was fully furnished. Not having daily maid service was ok, since when I'm staying in a suites hotel, I really don't want a maid wandering in all the time. If you need maid service or if you need to be looked after much, you need to go to a Hampton Inn. Their breakfast spread was big and smelled wonderful in the lobby. I had their courtesy van take me to a restaurant that evening, as they aren't really close to any restaurants (that are all in Robinson Town Center). That may be the only drawback.
If you want a suites hotel for a long term stay and don't mistake this for a hotel, you'll love it. And lastly, I loved the front entrance in the shape of a front porch, very welcoming.

First business trip to Pittsburgh and this is home this week.
A range of stars is merited.
Five stars for the super-friendly staff. Especially, Richard the driver who's genuinely happy to take you anywhere desired. Tonight he made two stops for me, for soup at Chick-Fil-A for my upset tummy, and the store for medicine.
Five stars for allowing dogs! I met the cutest Yorkie tonight in the most adorable sweater!
Five stars for free, reliable wi-fi (hence my ability to write this!).
Three stars for the totally average though fairly large breakfast spread. Like that they have lots of flavors of Dannon yogurt. Delicious smelling waffles, too.
Three stars for the full kitchen.
Two stars for no daily maid service (I don't like coming home to a non-made-up bed but did today) and too-soft-for-me pillows.
Minus-One star for the police raid last night after two people holed up in a room after committing some kind of crime. Employees aren't supposed to discuss the incident so we've only been able to speculate as to why five cops game guns ready. Not the best way to start off your visit but apparently this is out of the normal experience, according to my boss who stays here every other week!
Overall, three stars. That police thing really killed the rating or I'd probably say four.

Needed a place to stay as my mother wasn't interested in driving the two hours home and I was beyond tired after flying. The price on this place was pretty good with a AAA discount, they claimed to have an airport shuttle, and breakfast.
I called after landing, stating I needed shuttle service as I was staying there. The girl simply said okay. I've stayed at a few places in the area so I know what they say for a pick up. What door to wait by, what the shuttle looked like, and eta. She gave me none of this and it was only after asking that I got the ETA. I can be a little irritable after flying so I chalked my feelings up to personal mood. The first thing the lady told me when she picked up is that they don't usually come to the airport and that she didn't even realize she had to pick me up until the front desk girl prompted her long after I called. The lady driving the van was very nice so that saved the ride for me.
The hotel itself doesn't have the most intelligent construction. The handicap spots are clear on the other side of the building away from the elevator. The "business center" is a exposed nook in the same hallway that people walk by. The front door is situated far away from any of the other parking spots with the side doors that you do park at being key card only (not a big deal) so you're walking in thru traffic to get to the front (big deal). The rooms aren't bad. Plus being a full kitchen with fridge, stove, and dishwasher. My mother remarked that it reminded her of a dorm room with the age of the furniture.
The manager's reception is a keg in the lobby, and the breakfast is continental. That's more of an FYI for this expecting more. This place isn't bad if you're looking for a clean place to stay close to Robinson, but it's nothing fancy. More Quality Inn than Embassy Suites, though the Quality I've stayed at has a bit more breakfast wise.
The poor man's Residence Inn. Not bad, but I've stayed in better.

Totally exceeded expectations. Traveling for work and on a budget I booked the MainStay for one night on June 12th. Upon check in I was greeted by a kegerator? Wait, what?! Guess I checked in right in time for happy hour! Any place that greets me with a complimentary beer is top notch in my book.
Overall, room was clean and functional. Didn't utilize the kitchenette that featured a range, coffee maker, and full size refrigerator & freezer.
Gym is small, very small. One treadmill & elliptical.
Got a late start so missed complimentary breakfast, but from what I saw it was standard Choice Hotel fare. (eggs, sausages, waffles, cereal, etc).
Staff was a bit lackluster. I was never even asked about my stay from staff during check out.
Good location. Quick drive to Robinson Town Centre which features a number of restaurants and shopping.
Overall, MainStay will meet your expectations of a clean & comfortable night sleep at a fair price.
