This would be 5 stars if it weren't for a few things: decor is a little dated, the breakfast leaves a lot to be desired and the free "hi speed" wireless is SLOW.

We stay at this hotel whenever we're in town and it's been reliably clean with friendly staff and decent rates.  The location is perfect for us but it is a little high traffic.  There's a CVS and a grocery store right across from the exit and a lot of restaurants within a couple minutes drive (we go the Early Bird Diner at least once per visit).

We booked the king bed with study and it was a decent size with plenty of space to move around, drop luggage, etc.  Decent water pressure in the shower and a comfortable bed so I was happy.  Our room this time had a mini fridge and a microwave, plus they had coffee and tea with a basket of fruit by the elevator.  Breakfast is 6-10am and the highlight is the make-your-own waffle station.  Other than that, the food isn't anything to rave about but it's a nice time and money saver to have the complimentary breakfast.

This Hampton Inn is nice but, for some reason, my floor smelled like a skunk or crappy p1ss beer (Coronoa).  I thought maybe it was just the timing, but it smelled the same way the next tday as well.

I also had a small tube TV, which was a disappointment from the nice LCD I had a few days prior at the Hampton in Greenville.

Also missing from the lineup, which I was looking forward to, were the bagel toppers... :c(

Nice plush bedding, as expected, but the pillows made it hard for me to get comfortable.

My mom spent several days in the hospital after surgery, and not wanting to burden her - or my dad - our family went down and spent that time in the Hampton Inn & Suites.  As a bonus, it meant that we had complimentary breakfast, a jump on lunch by grabbing some extra bagels and fruit from the breakfast bar, and we had a pool to occupy the kids at least somewhat during the day.

The downside is the location of the hotel.  It's not in a bad part of town, exactly, it's just not great, being right off the end of the Mark Clark, and right off Savannah Highway.  Not that you expect to have acres and acres outside your room when you're at a hotel, but it would be nice to not have to be right in the midst of all that traffic.  It is nice that it's tucked into a corner with some trees around, so it's not bad either.

Staff at the hotel is very helpful, and the rooms are well-appointed, mostly because the property is fairly new.  Over time, I'm sure that it will probably decline somewhat, as hotels have a tendency to do.

We always stay at Hampton Inns and are usually happy with them. I was not happy with this location because the room was damp and smelled musty.  The carpets even felt damp.  I agree with another reviewer that the wireless is very slow as well. It also smelled bad outside the hotel, to one of our party.  There were ditches half full of water on 2-3 sides of the hotel and these did not smell good. Definitely wondering about drainage and dampness at this Hampton Inn.

Last year we stayed at the Historic District Hampton Inn.  I would recommend that one instead.

We always stay at Hilton hotels. We are Hilton Honors members and really enjoy Hampton Inns. They are good reliable hotels and you always get a full breakfast. This is the second time I stayed at this particular Hampton Inn and I'm completely disappointed. The hotel is not kept as clean as the others and there is an unbelievable musty/mold smell throughout the whole hotel. We actually had to move from our first room because the musty smell was so bad. They claim that they change the sheets and duvets with every new guest and when we pulled down the sheets there was blood on them. Very disappointed in this hotel. The executive management should come and check on this hotel to bring it back up to par.

tl;dr - Probably one of my favorite Hampton Inn's I've ever stayed at.  Really, over the top friendly staff, clean rooms, free beer and wine from 5-7, and fast internet.

Room: Clean and exactly as we expected.  LCD TV, an awesome hub to hook our USB devices directly into power, and coffee.  The bed was super comfy!

Service:  The staff were great.  The handle on our toilet broke within about 5 minutes of checking in, and it was fixed by a very friendly maintenance man about 10 minutes later.

Breakfast:  A little less than some other Hampton Inns I've stayed at before.  Not as much in the way of meats and eggs, but standard in every other way.  Great waffles.

I would give them a 3.5, as with most Hamptons, but since I can't they get a 3.

Very easy to find. Nice quiet area, but you wouldn't think so with all the businesses around it. Since its secluded behind the trees it stays quiet.

Our room smelled musty the entire 4 days we were there. Our room was right above the pool so that probably had something to do with it. Our AC continuously ran, but we had to keep it so cold to combat the smell. We bought some strong smelling candles and just left them open and that helped too. It wasn't moldy like some people said, just a little musty, or old.

Breakfast was sub par at best. Barely any fresh fruit. Just a bunch of carbs and over processed, fake, frozen stuff. And what's the deal with everyone "infusing" their water now? I just want water that tastes like water!

The fitness area is small but adequate. It is weirdly not attached to the hotel though. We thought we were missing it based on the arrows, but you have to go outside through the common area, past the pool, and it's behind the pool. It looks like a pool house. One treadmill, one elliptical, seated bike and weights. I like that there are towels and water inside as well.

Not a lot of chairs in the pool area. Could be a con. We went to the beach so we didn't care. However, I don't think SC is as anti-smoking as some states or the staff didn't keep up with the guests because there were definitely people smoking right outside the doors in the front of the building and right outside the doors to the pool. Which was really disgusting when we ate outside to spare everyone our stench (we would work out and then have breakfast).

Would return but probably would ask for a room that doesn't overlook the pool.

Not very far from downtown Charleston, where we spent 90% of our time.

I loved my stay here especially coming from a roach infested hotel room night before.  This place was so clean, employees so nice, room nice & clean Never saw any bugs

Definitely will stay here again :)

On 05/10/14, I wrote that I had been struck on the noggin by an access panel of an ice machine. I was not injured other than a slight stiff neck, and that soon passed. My issue was the "Yeah, who cares" attitude by the staff, not the 'injury'.
Well, a few days later I received a call from someone from Hampton Inn & Suites. Concern was given and an apology was given (and accepted) and all is right with the world.
We  will continue to stay at Hampton Inns, I never planned to go elswhere.
I felt that I should update my previous review with this "all is well" amindment. If I can complain, I can complement as well.
    Thanks,
    rlm

Room was so so. Kinda bland. Bed was deffiantly not the standard fluffy Hampton Inn mattress. Whirlpool bath was nice once I got the sand out of the bottem. This will be our first and last visit to this particular location.

I'm a big Hampton Inn fan but this Hampton Inn has got to be the nicest one I've had the pleasure of staying in.  Despite a long history with Hampton Inns, I had never stayed in one where I had an actual 2-room suite (akin to the Embassy Suites concept).  This Hampton appeared to be relatively new and it was very clean and very well maintained.  But - the 2-room suite was fantastic.  Lots of space to spread out and relax.

There was a "manager's reception" from 5-7:00 with complimentary beer, wine and assorted appetizers and, of course, there was the requisite free breakfast.  We were here 2 days and the complimentary breakfast was different both mornings.  The manager's reception is a Monday-Thursday event - nothing on the weekend.

This Inn is in West Ashley (about 6 miles from downtown Charleston) and close to the river plantations and to the Charlestown Landing State Park.  Its considerably less expensive than the downtown hotels and makes a good base for exploring the plantations before moving on to the downtown attractions.

One minor complaint (and this applies to Hampton Inns in general - not just to this particular location).  The heavy DUVETS that are used on the beds are not real practical.  Often times using just a sheet is not enough - but MOST times, the duvet covers are much too heavy.  Hamptons really need to provide plain old blankets that are heavier than a sheet but lighter than a duvet.

Again - this was probably the nicest Hampton Inn I've visited and I like Hampton Inns in general.

Alright, I gotta say this may have been my best hotel stay ever.
This place offers complimentary happy hour Sunday-Thursday, the receptionist gave us passes to the Aquarium, we got to go to a Xmas party and we won iTunes gift cards, mugs, shot glasses and magnets. I mean c'mon!

The hotel itself was clean, beautiful and we really have no complaints. It was a really nice Hampton Inn, we'd stay there again, on doubt!
