I was really pleased with this hotel, and it was a very reasonable price. Absolutely all the appointments were up to date in the rooms and the bathroom was especially well done. Staff were really friendly and the location was excellent - centrally located yet at the end of a nice quiet street. We had a room with beautiful exposed brick and amazingly high ceilings. The breakfast was more than generous and I love that they bring it to your room. Free wi-fi too. I love this hotel!

My husband and I stayed here for our wedding back in 2008.  It was a fantastic hotel, located right in the center of everything.  We stayed in a historic wing room, and it was great.  The staff was fantastic, and even though it wasn't cheap, we were willing to splurge - it was our wedding weekend after all, and it was totally worth it.  I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

This is a very nice hotel in a great location. I stayed here for one night with my family and we were very impressed with the service and amenities. We loved all the extras included in our room rate - wine and cheese in the evening, milk and cookies at night, turndown service with chocolates, and breakfast! I will definitely stay here again on my next visit to Charleston.

Great location.  Great views.  Great staff - very friendly.  Included in price: afternoon tea, breakfast in your room, wine and cheese, and cookies and milk.  Rooms are smaller than I would have expected for the price.

The Harbourview Inn is a lovely place to stay while in Charleston. The Inn location was great and close to riverfront and all the best restaurants in Charleston.

The staff was extremely attentive and quick. Our room was beautiful and extremely clean. We particurlarly liked the Tempurpedic Bed, a great little touch. We enjoyed our stay at the Harbourview Inn very much.

While it's true the staff was very nice and the rooms were clean with comfortable beds, I'm not sure that is all I should get for $350/night.

The wine/cheese was laid out in a dark, crowded area of the hotel.  Why they are not playing up their strengths (the view) is beyond me.  Both mornings we went down for breakfast, there were 2 bran muffins in an otherwise empty plexiglass case.  Again, not what I'd expect for the price.  3 baskets of cookes on a cart by the front desk being picked over by kids isn't exactly appetizing either.

There is no fitness center, business center, bar, restaurant, or sundries shop.  Those were all major disappointments.

Also, we had a penthouse room that was MUCH smaller than we expected.  Maybe 200 sq. ft. not counting the bathroom.

My husband picked this place because he thought it was the best of the best, but after our trip we realized that there would have been many better options for us for about $150-$200 cheaper/night.

I say save the money and spend it on dining and shopping!

Mister picked this hotel because it was #2 on Travelocity. It's cute, small and the rooms are nice and clean + it's away from the touristy area of Charleston, so it's quiet. The hotel is also just off the tourist center, yet close enough to walk almost everywhere. And the hotel staff were so helpful with suggestions and directions.
Our room had a King Tempurpedic bed and though it was right in the Atrium, it was very quiet.  I recommmend the Harbourview Inn- when we come back to Charleston (soon I hope), we'll stay here again.

I'd consider myself a no-frills lodgings person- give me a coffee maker, give me a fridge, give me a room that doesn't have dirty touch marks on the doors and light fixtures (and properly working climate control) and I'll be happy.

So for me, the Harbourview Inn was a bit of a dissappointment.
(please note my stay was in July 2007, so things may have changed since.)

I do give it a reluctant 4 stars.  I stayed in one of the historic suites.  I liked the cookies, tea and coffee.  Nice touch.  I liked the rooftop deck and view of the harbor and adjacent park.  The valet service was very good- the valets at the time were polite and helpful.

Having a memory foam mattress was a nice plus.  The room safe was bulky and secure.

The window shades needed a lock to stay open, and in our case, I had to use a luggage case or magazines, otherwise it hung loose in the middle of the window.

Its in a great location, close to everything with a good rooftop view of the harbor, which is reflected in the price.  For what I paid, I thought I would be getting more for what I paid.  I was a bit underwhelmed.  To that extent, the next time I'm in Charleston, I'll probably end up trying another place.

Overall, though, you'll probably be satisfied with your stay.

This is a very nice hotel in a great area of Charleston. You can very easily walk to restaurants, shops, historic sights, and more. We stayed here for 3 nights without a car and didn't miss having one! Every morning we had free room service breakfast included. Our room was very clean and there was a rooftop shared deck where you could sit outside. No complaints- this is a safe bet if you want a clean, nice hotel in downtown Charleston.

I went here recently for a 4 night stay. My first impression is the staff was great and very helpful as this was my first time in Charleston. The rooms were very clean but a little dated in the decorations. The stay was very enjoyable. Free breakfast brought to room and a treat of cookies and milk if you like at 9:00pm. I saw where someone posted that they only had 5 channels on their tv. They said it was raining that day. I must say it rained while I was there but I would not let it stop me from getting out. I couldn't see staying in a hotel rain or no rain and watch tv. The hotel is in a ideal location. You are very close to all the nice resturants and scenic sites. There might be more impressive places to stay in the area but you will pay alot more for it. In all I would do it again. I would recommend if you stay try to get a 4th floor room overlooking the harbor. That would be a difference maker alone.

This is my 2nd stay at this hotel.  The first time I had a great room (king size bed) and wonderful view from my balcony.  Upon my return to Charleston it was an easy choice to stay here again, but I regret my decision.  Upon my 2nd visit, we were given a room with 2 beds and when asked about a King bed which was requested in reservations, we were told it wasn't available on the one night of our 2 night stay.  In addition, we had no view, but of the power lines from our window.  The weather was bad, so walking around wasn't an option, but staying inside and renting a movie wasn't an option either.  They have about 5 channels on the TV with no Pay for View or Movie Channels available.  In addition, the maids have the worst customer service I have ever experienced.  During my first stay I was packing to leave prior to check out time (a few hours prior) and the maid started banging on my door.  I announced I would be awhile and to come back later.  5 minutes later the maid started banging again...I again told her I wasn't ready...again, she came back within 5 minutes and started her banging again...this happened about 5 times within 30 minutes. I finally came out of the room to discuss with the Housekeeper about her need to bang on the door at 9 am when check out time was 12 noon.  She did apologize, but I wasn't sure if she understood what I was saying.  The second trip the Maid didn't even knock on the door, but walked in without announcement while my Husband was in the bathroom.  And then she seemed "bothered" we were occupying the room during her time to clean.  We left the room briefly, but with the rain decided it might be better to sit in the sitting room while she was cleaning.  When we walked back towards our room the maid from my first visit was pushing her cleaning cart through the hallway.  We were walking by as she pushed her cart in front of us and said "excuse me" as if we were in her way.  I wonder how much training the housekeeping staff has had for their positions...certainity no customer service. While the towels were plush, I am not crazy about shower curtains especially at a 4 Star Hotel. The bathroom had empty boxes that would normally hold shower caps, q-tips, etc.  It was humorous that 2 boxes were displayed as an amenity, but were empty.
The positive of the hotel is obviously its excellent location for enjoying downtown Charleston, the Bell Staff is polite and helpful, the beds are comfortable and we enjoy the warm cookies in the evening, but for the price it isn't worth the stay and I'll be staying somewhere else in downtown Charleston.  The late afternoon wine & cheese gathering isn't great either as an employee stands behind the bar with the wine and a pile of dollars she puts out on the bar as to encourage tipping...so tacky.

I have to add after I wrote this review the hotel followed up with me from my in-room comment card.  They offered me a complimentary night at the hotel on my next visit to Charleston.  I have taken them up on it and will attempt to stay here again in a few weeks.  I appreciate their efforts and look forward to their improvements.

I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone going to Charleston for a visit. Located right on the harbor as the name would indicate.
The rooms are a good size with a beautiful bath, comfortable, four poster beds, nice linens. There is a large piece of furniture which houses the television, plenty of drawer space, small refrigerator and safe.
There are many lovely amenities in the hotel. First of all, a complimentary breakfast, very nice choices, which can be delivered to your room, the atrium, or the rooftop in nice weather. There is always coffee and tea available in the atrium. Wine and cheese in the afternoon and cookies and milk in the evening.
The staff is attentive and eager to please. Be advised that not every room has a view, so book early.
If I ever have the occasion to visit Charleston again, and I hope I do, this will be where I book my accommodations.

Amazing hotel with great service!  Very helpful staff with wine and cheese and milk and cookies as well as turn down service and a room service breakfast.  Great location for walking on King Street, and the market place - would recommend this hotel to everyone traveling to Charleston.

As Inn's go in Charleston, this is a very good place to stay since it is located in the center of the main part of town.  Close to restaurants, shops, art, and a quick drive to get over to Sullivan's Island for some beach time.

The staff is very professional and helpful.  Afternoon snacks and drinks are a nice touch and they valet your car.

Pricing is way under $300 per night and a value considering some of the pricing of other places in and around this establishment.

Everything at this establishment is top notch!  In the heart of a downtown convenience is a huge priority and the valet service is absolutely perfect.  Since everywhere in downtown is walkable from here it just makes sense to flip them your keys and head out!  We stayed in a room with french doors opening to a balcony overlooking Waterfront Park and the harbor.  If we could afford it we would stay here every weekend!  Highly recommend.

This hotel had it all. The check in was adequate but there are so many amenities that come with the hotel. They were note explained well to us. Our room had a view of a power station but who cares! The room was fabulous. It was huge. Turn down service in the evenings with robes on the bed and chocolates. The hotel uses an aromatherapy throughout the facility so it has a wonderful fragrance. They serve complimentary wine and cheese in the evening, cookies and milk at 9 PM and breakfast is served when you want and you have options of having it in the atrium, your bedroom or on the terrace. The location is fantastic, right by the river and park. There is a free shuttle pick up right outside the hotel. Easy walk to The Battery, Historic District, French Quarter, and City Market. They do encourage valet parking and it is $20 a day. We kept a set of car keys and were able to retrieve items from our car that we didn't want to carry into the hotel.

There is no restaurant on site and no bar but the evening wine is free so no complaints. We loved our room and the little perks that came with the reservation. We would come back here in a heartbeat. It is a bit of a splurge for us but it was a very positive experience. The aromatherapy just made me feel happy when I stepped inside the facility. Oh the little things that mean so much!

A great hotel.  The staff was very polite and helpful, the room was nice and very clean.  But the best little secret is the breakfast, it is free and great.

We also loved the location, quiet but close enough to some of Charleston's best restaurants.

We will be returning when we make it back to Charleston.

Stayed here for 3 nights and loved it!

The location is perfect as its on the water plus walking distance to any type of restaurant you want to go to downtown.

The staff was helpful in suggesting different options for some of the touristy activities in Charleston.

Onsite parking is nice and I was able to get items out of my car when needed. But I prefer not to have to valet a car. Although having my car parked securely inside the hotel garage made it secure and a nice benefit.

The hotel itself is like an old mansion, and not a hotel. The rooms are very nice and furnished like an old mansion. There's no awful standard hotel furniture here. All the furniture looked more like an expensive antique.

The beds and mattresses are great. Hotel was quiet

If you want 24/7 room service and the amenities of a huge hotel you won't like it here, but for friendly service, something unique, great location and a comfortable bed you can't go wrong at the Harbour View Inn.

Beautiful and clean hotel that makes you feel right at home. The harbor is a stone throw away but quiet enough to make you think your on your own island. The added bonus of breakfast served to you, wine and cheese in the afternoon and cookies with milk for dinner is just the icing to the cake. I will definitely be back.

We stayed at The Habourview Inn for four days/three nights while visiting Charleston.

Overall, the experience was definitely nice and pleasant. Here are some of the positives:
-Friendly staff for the most part (everyone was helpful and meant well)
-Nice rooms with large, remodeled bathrooms
-Cool common areas (a large atrium, front desk sitting area, and rooftop patio)
-Clean rooms and Free WiFi
-Free morning breakfast (not full service by any means (continental style with pastries, fruit, yogurt, coffee)
-Free wine and cheese hour in the early evening and warm cookies at night with milk (marginal quality, but nice touches

Now to some of the negatives:
-The whole guest experience was not worth the very hefty price tag. While the free food and drinks were nice, it was really annoying not having a full service restaurant in the hotel (although there are plenty of places nearby). We ended up going across the street to The Vendue for some delicious breakfast. The water in the lobby was not refilled often, and the coffee was often cold in the later morning.
-For parking, you must pull your car around to a front parking spot on the street. We found the valet guys failed to come out sometimes, and we often had to go inside to find one. We would also call for our car and not see it for a least 15 minutes
-Somewhat minor... But there is no onsite gym. The front desk said we could get a "discount" at a local gym. The gym ended up being pretty far away, and the gym attendant said there was no discount for hotel guests and charged us $15.00 each for a quick workout... (Might not matter to you though)

This is definitely a great option in Charleston near many great restaurants and shops. With the hefty price tag, I would definitely rate the whole experience as 3.5 stars, but I'll round up to four for the delicious evening cookies.

As a result of researching hotels for a Charleston trip for my wife and me, we picked the HarbourView Inn because of its amenities and location in the French Quarter on the Charleston harbor waterfront.

We were given a water-view room that was very well appointed, sufficiently spacious, and extremely quiet, comfortable, and clean.  Our amenities included complimentary afternoon wine and cheese in the atrium.  The continental breakfast was inclusive and delivery options included our room, the atrium, or the hotel's rooftop.  We chose the rooftop because of the nice views and the fine weather.  We breakfasted at the hotel three mornings and were wholly satisfied with the quality and variety that included yogurt, parfaits, fruit, cereal, and baked goods plus drinks.

Our service was excellent.  All of the members of the staff, including the parking valets, were very courteous and helpful.  In particular, our receptionist/concierge Jessica was a standout.  In addition to being very gracious, she provided us with numerous excellent dinner recommendations and called to make reservations for us.

The location of this hotel could not have been better.  It is in close proximity to the historic residential district, topnotch restaurants, the Market area, and other city attractions.  The free DASH city trolley bus stops across the hotel's front door and will take you to many attractions outside of walking distance.

The HarbourView Inn is a first-rate hotel in an ideal location and staffed with very accommodating and professional personnel.

Really enjoyed this place!  The rooms are a nice size and the beds are SUPER comfy.  The lobbies are beautiful as well and serve complimentary coffee and tea.  The location is PRIME as you are walking distance from many great restaurants, shops, White Point Gardens, etc.  It doesn't get much better.  Also, you can get breakfast delivered to your room, the atrium, or the rooftop in the morning at the hour you choose.  The breakfast foods are from a local bakery called Saffron, and they are quite tasty!  Also, the staff is very nice and accommodating.

The perfect spot to stay when you're in Charleston! I was in town recently for a girls weekend and can't say enough wonderful things about this hotel.   From the time I made our reservations by phone to our check out, we had an extremely positive experience.

The hotel is in prime location literally across the street from Charleston Waterfront Park and minutes from the Water Taxi. Everything is within walking distance so there is no need to rent a car or drive.

We had a room with 2  comfy queen beds which were comparable to what you'd see in a Westin or W. The room was very spacious as well as the bathroom. There was also wait staff that would come to our room every day to do "turn down service" which I am not used to and seemed a little funny to me. The coolest part was the complimentary breakfast that was delivered to our room. We had to fill out a breakfast card of what we would like to eat and hang it on our doorknob the night before with our desired breakfast delivery time. Like clockwork, our meals were delivered to our room. Make sure to tip!

They also offer complimentary cookies and milk from 9p-10p every night as well as complimentary fruit, coffee and tea downstairs in the lobby.

We were out late a few nights and for security measures, you need your hotel card to even enter the hotel which I liked.

Don't think I will stay anywhere else the next time I am in town. This place is one that I would highly recommend. It is a little pricey but is worth the cost when it comes to the perks and location.

Great location. The rooms were large and very high ceilings. Great atmosphere. The breakfast service to the room was a nice treat. Only wish they had a Resturant for hot food for breakfast. The wine and cheese hour was well attended. Unfortunately there was not a lot of seating so a number of people were sitting on floor. You could take it back to room but we wanted to visit with friends. The cookies and milk at night were a nice treat. Would definitely stay here if when we come back!!!

Perfect.  Amazing location, great rooftop terrace, extremely comfortable bed, really nice shower and bathroom.

The price was a little much for someone who doesn't make a ton of money.  But wow, there is nothing bad to write about this place.

They do wine and cheese from 5-6pm (free) daily.  Cookies and milk from 9pm+ (free), and breakfast delivered to your request (as long as you fill out the paperwork).  Coffee and tea (frees) always out in the atrium, as well as fruit (apples, bananas, oranges).  Not to mention the staff was extremely nice, well, except the girl who delivered the food for breakfast, i don't know what it was, but it stuck out really poorly mostly because all the other staff was so friendly from the front desk, to the bellboys, to the girls who help with the wine and cheese.

Don't even consider staying somewhere else, stay here.

Stayed here for 6 days in February. Booked the romance package, which came with Valet parking, private carriage tour of Charleston, champagne in the room, breakfast in bed daily, red roses upon arrival, and a $100 gift certificate for the High Cotton restaurant. The location of this hotel is convenient, right by numerous restaurant and bars and close to the King street shopping area. It's in a beautiful neighborhood with plenty to do and plenty historic buildings. The service was good, but they forgot the champagne. The hotel does not have a working kitchen for hot food, so room service is not an option and the breakfast in bed meant continental cold foods only, but they did offer tea and coffee. But it never bothered us, as Charleston offers a wide array of good quality restaurants nearby
