A hospitality disappointment. Terrible experience. While the hotel is new it is in a transitioning area not the main downtown well-known historic district that comes to mind when thinking of Charleston. We booked & paid in advance through holiday inn website then hotel charged again for taxes & tried to tell us we had not paid for that expense yet.... Parking is only valet & cars are put on stacked lifts- no other parking options available. There were glasses & dishes outside of the rooms on our hallway which remained there for the duration of our stay (2 nights). If that is how they are with how they are with cleaning dishes & public hallways it makes one wonder where else they are skimping. At check-in we were offered just a cart without assistance for 3 ladies. I could imagine where this may not be a standard at a holiday inn express but for a main holiday inn I feel that it was lacking.

Holiday Inns can be hit or miss.  This one is a hit hit hit.  The only difference between this Holiday Inn and a business traveler's Marriott or Hilton was that it lacked an Executive Lounge.

My cousin got married two weeks ago in Charleston. The bridal party and the guest stayed at this hotel. My sister and father were in room 430. My sister stays up late because she works night shift. They flew in on Friday, the wedding was Saturday and their departure was Monday. SUNDAY night, I get at text from my sister saying they are in a brand new, clean hotel and a small "roach" the size of her pinkie finger nail came straight for her. Well that "roach" was a bed bug. And after she was attacked by 10 - I REPEAT 10- which she massacred, she woke my dad up to find that THREE were on his back. ONE FULL of blood. They called the front desk and were promptly moved to a different room. Mind you bed bugs can easily travel in suitcases or on linens- so they could have brought bed bugs from room 430 to the new room. (also the previous two nights she did not stay up to see the bed bugs, but did text me that she was bit by something).

My problem is this 1. there were bed bugs- but the next day at check out the manager wanted to charge my sister and father for the room! they had to argue with him to be compensated- even after he wanted to charge them for valet parking! eventually, everything was comped.

The front desk staff was very accommodating, efficient, and nice assisting my dad and sister. It was the manager on duty who did not want to comp the rooms. My dad and sister were not the only guest to get bed bugs either, other guest reported bites including the bridal party.

Finally- CHECK ALL ROOMS AT ANY HOTEL YOU STAY AT FOR BED BUGS. You can do this by lifting up the mattress and visually inspecting for bugs, look around the wall, head board, and bed for rust colored stains. Never put your luggage close to the wall or bed, instead place on the luggage rack and put in the middle of the room- also invest in hard luggage that does not zip and bed bugs can not climb into those types of cases.

Since this yelp review I have emailed HGI corporate and the manager of the hotel at Charleston both have assured me that this situation has been dealt with and that they have had bed bug inspectors and exterminators at the hotel and have been given a clean bill. So if anyone else stays here and finds bed bugs let the hotel know so they can promptly address the issue.

HOLY LORD! Bed BUGS!! My best friends sister AND dad just stayed here and found out that there were bed bugs!! Her sister said that after she saw a bug scurrying towards her at 1am, she put 2 and 2 together.  It was so big that originally she thought it was a baby cockroach!  The next morning she talked to the house keeping and the housekeeper said that she had a list and that my friends sisters room was ON THE LIST of rooms with bed bugs!! EEWWW!!! Their one saving grace was that after she found out that evening what they were, they immediately placed both her and her father in a new room, but how can you sleep after that?!  This place needs to shut down and call in the Orkin man!  DO NOT GO HERE!

This review is for the bar and happy hour.  What a great experience.  The staff was so accommodating.  They opened early just for us.  There was wireless in the bar area, so we were able to have our project meeting in the comfortable and beautiful surroundings.  Best part, the drinks were very reasonable and there was incredible food!  The chef came out and greeted us as brought wonderful tapas.  We had hummus, fresh made pickled vegetable, buffalo shrimp, and creme brûlée all on the house.  This is now my favorite place for meetings.

The place is clean and convenient, but the staff is not the greatest. I stayed here for 2 weeks.

The Internet went down multiple times.
When the laundry machine was out of order they didn't help out.
Their services close down before the time they advertise.
We valeted our car once, and they said we'd be charged valet service for every day we were at the hotel.
They will not go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable.

We stayed here for six days while attending the Family Circle Cup and had kind, attentive, and friendly service from EVERYONE (from the front desk to the valet dudes to the housekeepers.)

Our requests ranged from, "Can you pull my car up immediately?" to "Do you have a bandaid?" to "Can we borrow an umbrella?" Yes, Yes, and Yes were the responses.

Hospitality in Charleston is legendary and the staff at the Ho-Inn are no exception.

Yes, it was a bit expensive, but
(a) it's brand new
(b) it was the FCC tournament
(c) Charleston has a shortage of newer hotels that don't smell like the 1900s

'Nuf said.

Had a great time while staying here a fee weeks ago. Jamie was on top of all of the front desk operations whether it was checking people in or handling guest issues she kept her kool and composure. She was also good with recommending good restaurants in the area. What impressed me the most was how she handled the question of "is this area safe?" To which she responded "it is under restoration" she did not skip a beat and is a great asset to your hotel.

Clean room and friendly service.  We were there to visit the city, didn't use any of the amenities, but they looked nice.  We did use the valet parking because it was all they had.  Valet were nice and timely.  It's in good walking distance to downtown so we didn't take the car out very often.

I really enjoyed staying here during my five night visit.  I was in town for a friend's wedding and decided to make it a mini vacation.  The room was clean and spacious.  As a vacation hotel, this is a nice clean location.  Staff was friendly and efficient with check in and out.  It is about an easy flat 20 minute walk to the touristy part of Charleston.  One can walk, take a pedi-cab, or take the local free downtown bus.  There is a bus stop right across the street.  One block over is King Street with a number of bars and restaurants.  I preferred this location over downtown because of its location to King Street and its night life.  Only available parking is valet which adds to the cost of vacationing.  I would recommend skipping the car rental since everything is pretty easy to walk to and parking is difficult anywhere in downtown Charleston.  Parking is a premium anywhere in the main part of city since it is located on a peninsula.  Think San Francisco or Manhattan.

If you are a music promoter do NOT reserve here for your artists unless you are there with your credit card when they check in.

They will not be able to check in and will end up endlessly debating bullshit with the front desk when they should be getting up for flights.

Failing hard.

Super friendly and knowledgeable staff. We stayed 9/18-9/20. Jaime, one of the front desk girls (long dark hair and glasses) gave us great tourist and restaurant recommendations. Walking distance to great King Street finds! Rooms were clean and comfortable. Valet parking, but it is $16/day. Would definitely stay again.

Apparently this is a new location. Although some of the old reviews are still listed, I assure you they no longer apply. Read on if you are heading toward Charleston.

White glove treatment from Kevin, the manager. We referred to him as The Handsome Professional. He also lead us to the most fun we've had on any trip and I'll highlight those places in other reviews here.

Pleasantly caught off guard when the head housekeeper said, "Have a nice day Miss K!" When is the last time someone at a chain hotel greeted you by name or giggled along with you as you recounted your experiences? Although it looks like a chain hotel it has the service of a b & b. If there were 6 stars, I'd offer them to Jamie, Jessie, Brendan, Nicole, Kristen and Brooks... so many standouts. When they say Southern Hospitality, they mean that you will be welcomed and ushered into such fine and relaxing experiences.

We were simply amazed by the service.

The small pool was the perfect temperature both morning and evening. The place is immaculately clean. Designed with porcelain tile, contemporary furnishings and comfy beds. Wireless is easy and free. Bonus: it is just a block or two from King Street and all their valet/transportation arrangements are swift and easy.

I see nothing standing in your way. Book it!

My husband and 2 kids came to Charleston yesterday for a church conference for a week  .We have 2 adjoining rooms. If I could give a neg 5 stars rating right now, I would . Yesterday at check in it would have been 1 star and that was because the staff was polite, especially the person in charge. But this morning at 5:45a they are definitely in the negative.
After check in , I walked into my room and smelt mold so strong ,it's been around for a while . I am head of Health and Safety at my job so I know mold when I smell it. I started my inspection of the room. Of course right by the air conditioning vent there is a panel full of mold.Gross!. We called the front desk,of course there were no rooms left that were adjoining. The guy in charge comes and offers to have house keeping come with bleach and wipe it off. This is what amateurs do .They wipe  the mold off the surface but the spores are still there and it comes right back .This is probably why it was such a strong mold smell in that room .I told him no, they had to replace the panel  and disinfect the area before putting the new one up. The head guy came with a ladder and did this himself while we went to eat. Where is maintenance? SMH !We returned to a new panel and a better smelling room.
Tell me why at 5:30 this morning I hear water running in the bathroom . I wake up my husband to check it out and he comes back to tell me there's water coming through the light in the shower from upstairs. This is is truly crazy! We call the front desk. They were very nice .Still no empty adjoining rooms .Maintenance starts at 7 a. We have 4 people to get dress this morning. They offered for us to use the shower in a room on the other side of the hotel .Too inconvenient ! We will have to get up early and use the shower in the kids room so we won't be late. Go to use the shower in the kids room the shower door is missing a handle and the door swings. This is going to be a long week!

The hotel is very modern looking and super clean.
Tammy and Kristen at the front desk went above and beyond for us!
The pool area was clean and a nice place to hang out and relax.
The room was clean and the bed was comfy.
The shower was huge and had great water pressure.

It is a 15 to 20 minute walk to the market where all the tourist stuff is.
The bartenders were not great. They were slow and didn't know how to make some drinks.
The internet was slow and I was unable to print my boarding pass from the computers in the hall.

This is a new location that just opened in February. On Meeting that is a couple blocks from restaurants, etc. this is another part of Charleston going through improvements.

Hotel is great, nicely laid out, easy valet (you will not self park here) and a full restaurant and bar. As an FYI, THE GRITS HERE ARE SOME OF THE BEST!

Holiday Inn is making many upgrades to current hotels and building new. I was impressed!

I absolutely loved this hotel.  Great location, friendly staff, and an amazing room.  The pool was a plus too.  Worth the higher price.

Thoroughly enjoyed the stay at this hotel.  Staff was friendly and helpful.  Room clean and comfortable.   Restaurant very good.  A little extra walking but no problem. Convenient to visitors center.  Free trolly was helpful.  Hope to return and would recommend this hotel.  Don O.

The Holiday Inn Express chain has been a consistent performer for me as I have travelled across they country. I rarely experience anything out of the ordinary, and if there is an issue, they handle it quickly with a smile.
This location is definitely one of the higher end designs of the chain with a very modern and open feel. The staff was super friendly and helpful, and they offer valet parking. They also have a GREAT restaurant inside of the hotel that offers up quite a few southern dishes with a spin.
The room on the fourth floor was spacious, clean, modern, and had everything I needed. I also noticed that they stock the bathroom with Bath and Bodyworks products, so that is a nice feature.
The only objectionable issues is due to their location. The room balcony did not offer up much of a view, and the hotel is a few blocks from the busy part of Charleston downtown, but it's definitely within walking distance. This is the best hotel that I have stayed in while visiting downtown Charleston; the right value, the right service, and the convenience makes this HIE location a great deal.

Walking distance to a lot of good bars and restaurants. The hotel itself is nice and clean. The staff if very friendly and was very willing to make suggestions on place to check out  around the area.   There is a "roof" top pool, on the 2nd floor.  It is on a roof, but its is not the very top of the building, which is 3 floors higher.

The rooms were clean and quiet, but views were not that spectacular.  Bed's were firm and comfy.  We didn't get one of the walkin shower rooms, but everything was still nice.

There is no free parking at this hotel.  You have to valet your car for ~$17 a night.  They have system of car elevators in which they store your car.  This valet is ran 24hrs a day though.

I would not pay retail for this though, but do use priceline or something similar.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. Staff was super friendly and always available to answer any of our questions. They have valet parking.  Downtown is close by and it's just a quick walk away. Rooms were clean, turn down service was great.  Would definitely stay here again.

On a long weekend we stayed in the 5th floor corner suite. The suite was amazing. Great view of the bridge.

We have two young kids and the suite provided extra room for them to play. Plus, when bed time came around we put one on the sleeper and one in a pack and play in the bedroom.

The bathroom was huge!

The room was not cheap but we thought it was worth it for the size and added convenience with two young kids.

The hotel itself is modern, open, and feels welcoming.

The staff was incredibly friendly and arranged an early check-in for us. They also have valet parking and the valet staff was prompt and helpful.

One thing to be aware of: This hotel is on the very edge of the historic district. It's a short walk to the shopping on King Street. The historic district in Charleston is best experienced by walking so note that you'll do a bit more when staying here. It is also about a block into a part of the community that has not yet experienced the gentrification of the rest of the historic district.

We stayed here while downtown celebrating a friend's bachelorette weekend!
They were great at accommodating us with checking in early. The front desk staff were all so friendly and we felt like friends by the end of our visit. They were attentive and helpful with all of our needs.

The room was average sized with two full beds. The linens and pillows were great! They offered two firm and two soft pillows per bed, which was nice. Most hotels don't have such nice ones on the bed.

The pool area was interesting. It is on the second floor and is oddly placed/shaped. We did find an area to lay out, but it was just... weird. The pool itself was very clean and the water felt fantastic.

My complaint. The doors and walls are very thin. At 7am, we heard so many people in the hallway. Breakfasts being delivered, room service starting, others checking out. I felt as though they were practically in the room making this noise. It was quite frustrating when we weren't going to be getting up that early- after having a late night.
