Checked in to a room on the 4th floor with a nice view of the Marina but the room was worn and musky.  The loud AC had to work all night to keep the room cool and the bed was old and scratchy.  The worst of the La Qunita's we've stayed in this past week.  The best benefit was the close proximity to downtown.

Great hotel, nice staff, good breakfast.  What more do you need?  Clean rooms, nice views... This La Quinta has it all.  Very happy.

This La Quinta is in a nice location on a dead-end road, by a marina  across from Charleston. Easy to get into town and within walking distance of California Dreaming, a nice restaurant located in an old fort (hint: try the Bloody Marys). Some of the rooms in the hotel have nice water views and the staff is welcoming and helpful.

Walls are paper thin, you can hear someone cough or someones tv/radio on low! Rooms are mostly clean, the bathroom shower/tub was dirty/stained. I stood on a towel in the tub so I didn't get any foot fungi or anything. Parking is kinda limited as well. I'd try to find a better place to stay.

Not bad.  Somewhat overpriced because of its location. Staff were all extremely courteous and professional.  Room was very clean.  The only complaints were that the bathroom lighting was inadequate and the  continental breakfast was, at best, so so.  The only protein was in the improperly over-boiled eggs.

This hotel was okay.  It was clean and convenient to area attractions.  The staff is friendly and accomodating.  It had all the amenities that we needed to make our stay comfortable.  There were a few things that bothered me about this hotel.  It's very dog friendly, which I don't mind, but we ended up with a room next to an constant barker.  We also found the internet to be extremely unreliable.  The continental breakfast is good but gets very crowded.  For such a basic room, I found it to be expensive.

Rooms are just okay as the bathrooms are outdated and the beds are somewhat old and worn. While we were there I saw a new set of mattresses delivered so maybe they are updating everything. The bellhop was a really nice man and helped us bring in our luggage and saw that we had food so he brought a mini fridge in. Staff was friendly and the continental breakfast was standard. The best thing about this place is the close proximity to downtown and the fact that its in a very quiet road which has little traffic. I would come back down here for the location if for nothing else

I've stayed here for years because it is affordable, convienently located and pet friendly. The accomodations are fine for a trip where you spend little time in the room, but they are nothing to write home about. I stay here at least two to three times a year when visiting Charleston. It is usually a good value for what you receive; the breakfast is nice and the TVs in the room are as well.

My biggest issue with this hotel is the staff. They are rude and not helpful. Most recently, we booked a room with two beds and a sofa through a third party. Upon arrival our room did not have a sofa bed and the staff at the front desk, who is responsible for providing room information to third parties, did nothing, despite the fact that we had one person, with no where to sleep. They also complained about noise in our room. For a hotel with so many reviews about volume, they are sure quick to come knock on your door with a noise complaint, for really no reason at all. Additionally, I had my dog with me on my last trip and we stayed on the first floor. I went outside to get a bag from the car in the middle of the day, and before I was even to the vehicle the front desk was calling my cell phone to tell me that my dog was barking. I had been gone for approximately 2 minutes before they called and rudely demanded that I come back from wherever I was.

Only stay here if you are planning to spend very little time actually in the room. It isn't worth the hassle.

Worst hotel experience of my life. Our room was next to the checkin with no door separating the hallway. When I tried to close it they gave me some bs about fire doors. The lerk shouted all night on the speaker phone and made sitting in the room miserable. The clerk could care less. We were greeted by a loud Machine outside our door very noisy drying out some kind of water spill on the carpet. Shower musty and moldy. Constant screaming from breakfast area. Great view of a parked car. Whoever designs these places must be a Cretan. This place is not fit for human habitation and should be demolished.

Ok booked this online, I am a loyal LQ customer as we stayed in them all of the way from Seattle during our relocation. we have 2 small dogs and I hate being charged for them.
PRO: Convenience, price (gov rate, AAA), location to area, breakfast is decent, but they need to have some biscuits and gravy to change it up, we were here 5 days every day is waffles. Parking is huge we had 3 vehicles one of which had an RV attached no issues. California Dreaming is just down the street (recommend). Linens are very clean and smell like bleach.
CON: This is an old property (former Hampton) and they are slooooowly bringing it up to LQ standards. We had numerous issues, all resolved but it took 3 days, the sense of urgency by staff to correct any issues is greatly lacking ( I had to threaten to take my business else where) The night manager feels her only job is to stand there and eat popcorn while you are explaining the issue at hand. And then it is a shrug or "I came on at 3 so I do not know" attitude. Our shower did not drain for 2 days the card reader to get in the room was not unlocking ( still and on day 3). We asked for a fridge and microwave which was brought up the next day thanks to the day manager. Rooms are dingy with old furniture.

All in all I think if LQ put $$$ into this property it would be a great place to stay.

Pool is small but it is pet friendly and you can walk by the marina and look at the gorgeous boats.  Free breakfast is surprisingly nice!!! Only 2 complaints:  room service did not get to our room until almost dinner and our room had a smoking smell to it- like someone had been smoking in there :( Other than that all was fine.

I'm gonna warn those who use Travelocity, don't expect to get what you pay for.  However, when we arrived on August 29th, Mary at the front desk of La Quinta worked out the errors that Travelocity made with our booking and made me very happy.  And she didn't have to.  I really appreciate her!  Thank you Mary!  The weekend was my birthday and our anniversary and I for one, like La Quinta and enjoyed staying in this one in Charleston.  It was nice, a clean room and quiet.  Only heard dogs if and when I walked down the hall and it was only briefly.  But I'm a dog person and that's okay.  I would recommend you stay here.  Easy to get anywhere in Charleston and reasonable.

I would give zero stars if I could. My 'executive king' room stank heavily (as in, overwhelmingly) of stale cigarettes and cheap chemical to (attempt to) mask it. Stains on the floor. Dog barking incessantly in the room next door. Noisy traffic from the adjacent interstate. A pubic hair (not mine) on the toilet upon my arrival. This place should be an hourly rental and nothing more. Disgusting.

In the past, I worked for more than a decade in the service industry (waiting tables, customer service, etc.), so I'm loathe to complain.  Never have I asked to switch rooms and I've never sent back food in a restaurant.  But I did insist on leaving this hotel at 9pm after checking in, and it took some effort to find a vacancy in town seeing as how it's spring break.  But it was entirely worth the effort.  I was not going to stay there.  No way.  No how.

The only redeeming quality of this hotel is that they allowed me to check out without penalty (I think).

Regardless, this was my first and last time staying at a La Quinta.

This is not representative of La Quinta or Choice Hotels. My wife and I love to take our dog to Ka Quintas wherever we go, always knowing that our time there will be flawless, and the rooms clean. Here, there were bugs, my room keys never worked, the TV was broke, the a/c made loud sporadic noises, there was no room fridge or bathroom trash can (something I've seen at every La Quinta). The hotel staff was very pleasant and helpful, however they were waaaay overworked for the amount of people this hotel services at once. The hotel has potential to straighten up and shine, but that would require all new management.

Checked into a king non-smoking room and immediately noticed that it smelled musty. The wardrobe that was provided smelled so bad that I would not hang my clothes up in it, or iron my clothes with the iron stored in there, for fear that it would cause them to smell. The carpet felt damp, the bed felt damp, and the bathroom did not have an exhaust fan to help with the moisture. Even papers that we left out on the nightstand overnight felt damp in the morning. I have no idea what the problem could have been, but I'm not sure how housekeeping did not notice it. We even sprayed the air freshener from the car multiple times to try to hide the smell. For the money, I could easily find somewhere else that does not have a moisture and smell problem. I have always had good experiences with La Quinta in the past, not sure what is going on with this location.

Staying here to board a cruise the following day in Charleston and this hotel is very convenient. They offer free parking for cruisers while they cruise which is key. Hotel staff was very accommodating at arrival and answered any questions I had during my stay. Hotel overall is in decent shape, it's not the Ritz but overall I would stay here or recommend it to others. Rooms are clean along with free breakfast and wifi is nice. Just could use some updating.

Room small and very dirty.  Booked for a family of 5.  Got a room with two double beds and not enough room for a roll away.

Half a used condom wrapper in the bathroom.  Pubes on the toilet.  Comforter filthy with stains.

Fire ants outside.

Generally the whole place looks run down and dirty.

I have stayed at this hotel a few times because it is what I was awarded through a name your own price. For that price, I cannot truly complain; however, for that same price, I have stayed in many other places in the Charleston area for a much better experience. This LaQuinta Inn is dirty and could stand a deep clean. i feel it stands behind a 'don't ask, don't tell' policy. The one thing it has going for it is that it is just around the corner from down town and the service is friendly....just don't ask for much.

I don't think this La Quinta is as bad as some people have said.  It's maybe not as modern as some of the other ones, but I felt fortunate to get a room so last minute and a few minutes cab ride from downtown Charleston.  And our room was not dirty, so maybe that was a past housekeeping issue that has since been resolved.

I thought the harbor view was really nice, both in the day and at night.  So if you can, you will probably want to ask for the harbor view room facing the marina.

The beds are nice too, soft and comfy.  The room we were in was roomy as well.  The only thing I didn't get was that the sink was in the bathroom along with the coffee pot and I wondered if poopy germs would get in my coffee in the morning.  But I made coffee in there and I survived so I guess it wasn't a big deal.

The room also had a nice bureau in it too so we could hang up all our clothes and coats, and that was nice.  It's also very convenient that they have a washer/dryer in the hotel and are reasonably priced.

Perhaps some expect the ritziness of Charleston at economy level prices and that's just not going to happen at a budget hotel.  But like almost everyone we met in Charleston, folks were very nice and polite here and like every La Quinta they were very cool with our dog.  They didn't care about the breed, or weight limits or anything.

Overall it was a nice stay and I'd stay here again.

I originally chose the La Quinta as we hoped to bring our dogs along with us on our trip. After reading reviews we saw several that said the hotel will call you immediately if your dog barks in the room. We got spooked as our dog barks during storms and it was supposed to storm all weekend.
We stayed at La Quinta Pup-less...and the moment you walk in it sounds like a kennel. Doesn't bother us at all but seriously one dog didn't stop barking for two days and I didn't see or hear about any consequences.
We were pleasantly surprised at the look of our room and bathroom. For the cost it was very nice and comfortable. The bathroom was clean and stocked with all the necessary toiletries.
The next day our room was "serviced" but the bed was left unmade and the bathroom was not restocked or cleaned. It's as if someone started to clean it, left to get something and forgot to come back. Not a problem, but would've been nice to have a clean room.
The complimentary breakfast was fine. If you like waffles you will be pleased, you could also choose bagels, donuts or cereal.
I would stay at this La Quinta again if I was on a budget or wanted to bring my dogs.

Jessica the lady at the front desk was very nice. That's why this place is getting an additional star. From her alone. She deserves a raise.

From outside, the hotel looks nice. Inside is a different story. It is a bit outdated.

Once we walked into our room, it felt dirty. And sure enough it kinda was. For four people there was one trash can, three shower towels, and no refrigerator. The bathroom needs to be redone. It too was dirty.

But what did I expect? I did get a room for $84 per night with only an 8 minute drive to Charleston.

In retrospect, I would pay a bit more so that I could be closer to the downtown area.  This place is across the bridge from the city.  It isn't too long of a drive, but my time in Charleston would have been twice as nice had I been down where everything is.

Speaking of location, upon check-in, make sure that you are not down at the west end, near the boat storage place.  The walls are thin, and the doors have gaps, so they let in a lot of sound.  A LOT!  That boat place opens up very early and they start running their machinery.  It will make tons of noise, and sometimes vibrate your room.  You've been warned.

This hotel has certainly seen better days.  It is a bit rundown.  The ice machines are giant, gurgling antiques and the washers and dryers are boxy, white scratch & dent specials from god knows where.

On a pleasant note, the staff seems to be very friendly, and while the place is worn down, it does appear to be clean and looked after.  No complaints about what's inside the room.  Nice tv, strong wi-fi, comfy beds, and good water pressure.

Like all La Quinta this hotel is dog friendly. That's the only perk. I have been Working in hotel consumer service for almost ten years  in the napa valley and I cannot even fathom how unprofessional and rude the staff is here. And if you're looking for a clean room and quiet nights sleep and that doesn't smell of pee, then forget about it. Every time I pass the front desk they are arguing with a guest. Did I mention an employee tried coming into my room when I wearing nothing but a towel? luckily I had the flip latch on the door because the "do not disturb" sign and the pad lock weren't enough. Oh it gets worse. After calling the front desk and trying to explain what had happen she starting talking on her radio while I was mid sentence. And it gets better..She had the decency to tell me that it was my fault. If that wasn't the icing on the cake, they scheduled us to check out a day early.. They again told us that it was our fault. My family are members of la Quinta and Marriott... However, while in Charleston we will no longer waste a dime here and I encourage everyone to bring their business elsewhere.

This hotel is ok. The rooms are a good size and ours was clean and did not smell. They did not clean it the next day, but cleaned it the day after that. We had to get towels at one point as we did not have enough. The pool was closed for 2 days for some reason. There is plenty of parking in the back and on the side.

I should have known better after staying one night in a LaQuinta in Columbus, GA years ago. Staff acted like I was a bother to them when I checked in. Our room was acceptable but could have used more soap and wash cloths. Beds were comfortable and the view of the harbor was nice through a sweaty and dirty window. Go elsewhere.

The biggest issue that we had with the hotel....only 3 towels and 1 washcloth for 4 people is ridiculous.  We asked housekeeping numerous times and her only answer was that washcloths were a hot commodity. I'm not cool with sharing linens. Oh, only got one bar of soap...not enough with 2 adults and a teenage that loves to take showers.

Other issue, every evening we would come back to the room, our ac was switched to heat. In Charleston in July.....

Location was just fine.

RUN....
GET OUT OF THERE...
You're not leaving...  Fine...  But remember, YOU'VE BEEN WARNED ! ! !

After my ONE STAR experience with a La Quinta in Savannah GA, you'd think I'd abandon the idea of returning to another La Quinta location.  You thought wrong... I didn't have that much of a choice but yeah, here we are back at another La Quinta.

A few hours before arriving in Charleston SC, we were using the mobile phone to find hotel;  not as easy as I thought it would be, plus we didn't really know the area (first time visiting).  Our goal was to locate a hotel in or near the historic district.  Most were filled to capacity and those that had vacancy were insanely expensive.  I found a La Quinta just over the Ashley River (still very close to everything).  SUCK IT UP GLENN, HOW BAD CAN IT BE?

Well, I sucked it up, bite the bullet and reserved a room (a room with one king bed)

The hotel looked like any other on the outside;  a lovely marina view for the rooms on the front side of the building and highway for those facing the back of building.  Entering the building was ehh;  kinda dated and in need of modernization but not bad enough for us to run (yet).

We check in and naturally we request a marina view.  She apologized she couldn't accommodate that request because they are full.  No problem since we were last minute.  We head to the room and turns out we DO have a marina view, but what we don't have is a king sized bed... nope, we have two separate small beds.  I head back to the front desk and request a room change to a king bed.  She says they have no vacancies and certainly no more king beds.  Ridiculous.

Things aren't ONE STAR levels yet but after our night out in town we returned to our room with two little beds.  I stay up quite late and it wasn't until 3 in the morning that I decided to finally climb into bed.  The room was dimly lit from the television and I barely notice something on the pillow next to me... WHAT IS THAT?  I don't really want to know but human nature go the best of me and I turn on a light.. OMG it's blood spots (or at least that's what it looked like).  Oh NASEAU...

I didn't complain to the front desk because I was furious and it was 3 am but I should have known better to stay away from La Quinta.  Just like my Savannah GA visit, I checked out early and called that 800 number.  They offered the same resolve as in GA (a voucher for a free night).  NO WAY, NEVER, AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN... GIVE ME MY MONEY... THIS PLACE WAS DISGUSTING.

Great location but one can do a lot better. On the plus side, The bed was very comfortable and the pillows were just right. On the negative side, moldy bathtub and bathroom. Inattentive front desk and maintenance service. Small, dingy room with a tiny window whose view of the river was forever blocked by the fog from the air conditioner and the dirty windows. Breakfast was mediocre. Best bet is to stay at the Holiday Inn Express directly across from this hotel. One last item, did I say no hot water? Took showers early in the afternoon and in the evening and the water was tepid at best.

To start things off, the first morning we jump in the shower and get out to realize we don't have any towels in the room. It then took the hotel staff an additional 20 minutes to bring them.

That night we come back, we find out someone apparently checked us out of our hotel room a day early so when we can't back to our room the room keys didn't work.

The room clearly wasn't cleaned properly- there was hair still in the shower and coffee stirs on the floor.

To top it all off, when we went to check out we realized we were way overcharged for our second nights stay. In our confirmation email (and what they quoted us) stated $95 and they charged us $188. They did refund us the difference but it was a total inconveince. That has NEVER happened to us at any other La Quinta.

Oh, and the yogurt at breakfast had expired two days before and I'm pretty sure my milk in my cereal was bad.

Our next trip to Charleston, we will definitely be finding somewhere else to say. That says a lot considering we're members of La Quinta.

THIS PLACE IS A DUMP.

I spent four days here and in the most squalid conditons.  I arrived late and was given a room in a separate building of the hotel to the back.  I got there and the room door was propped open, the curtains closed, and the room was dark.  Decided I did not want to subject myself to risk by going in with all my stuff.  The desk agent at 1a.m. was very rude(first name starts with T).

She transferred me to another room.  I had to grab all my stuff and carry it up stairs to the main landing where the elevator is.  When I got to my room on the opposite side of the building and a different floor I saw the room did not have curtains on the 6 fot by 5 foot windows.

I called desk and when I asked T to please do something about this she hung up.

I travel a lot on business and have been to other La Quintas.  Nothing prepared me for this place.  Socks, broken furniture, and soda cans littered the walkways from my room. The pain was chipped and peeling.  My room looked like it hadn't been renovated in 10 years.  It had a weird chemical smell.  I could go on but you get the idea.

NEVER AGAIN!

There are two sections to the hotel, an older part and a newer part. My review covers the older section.I have a tendency to stay at La Quintas when traveling with one of my four footed friends. This one was by the far the worst I have seen. The furniture looked like it had been around since the 70's..scratched and torn. The carpet was so worn it was bare in spots. The room smelt of dust and I had to go out and by air freshener to make it tolerable. I had to ask for amenities like a waste basket. There are no trash cans outside the older section and access to the rooms is from the outdoors. There is an elevator but it was broken the whole 3 days I was there. Contrary to what another review I never heard any barking dogs but there was the flashing light from the marina that was on all night. They didn't change out the dirty towels... the towel for the bath mat was torn. The bed had a huge indentation in it ... the tub was dirty and the hairdryer was covered in dirt. I could keep going on... There was dust an inch thick on the night table. If I could have changed hotels I would have. I did have to use the facilities in the main hotel lobby -- there were paper towels all over the floor and I had to ask for toilet paper.

Disgusting ...

Two letters. N-O. Please do yourself a huge favor and stay at a different hotel, even if it costs an additional $5-$10. (I wish I could give zero stars on this)

First, this hotel has two buildings, the one the show on their website and the one they don't. The other one is outside, and believe me, you know it. You hear cars, marina crew, intoxicated guests at the same hotel, everything. It does not make for a plesant slumber.

As for the room, it's small, damp and looks (and smells) in desperate need of a cleaning. The room we stayed in, did not even have a telephone! It also didn't have a trash can, and only one set of towels, with the washcloth already looking rather used. I used my phone to call the front desk to explain and the lady just laughed and said "you ain't got no phone?! That's crazy" (still, they never brought one). In addition, the bath tub bottom was stained black, the mirror had stains/marks all over it and our lampshade looked like it lost a few battles. The desk chair, if you want to call it that, looked like a beach chair with wheels and it was too wide so you couldn't walk past it, you had to move it completely out of the way. It is a poorly planned hotel with completely outdated items. Also, you can't access their wi-fi and when I called about that, they couldn't tell me what to do.

Positives: free breakfast and a shuttle to downtown every 2 hours - but make sure you call because sometimes they forget.

Overall: please do yourself a favor and choose a different hotel. There are many others and ones that are pet friendly as well.
