The exterior and lobby appear to make this look like a nice hotel. Don't be fooled; my room is very dirty, see posted photo. For 120 a night I would hope my toilet lid would hold it self up, the shower head would not have green mold on it, and the tub and sInk would  be clean.

This hotel rocks!

I traveled to El Paso for a week on business and didnt really know what I would get at this HI (they are all kind of hit or miss) and here is why I really liked my stay:

1. First of all, I found a great sale on Orbitz, under $100 a night
2. FREE Everything: WiFi, Breakfast (limited selection but whatever), rooms come with a microwave and refrigerators (neat for a week-long traveler like me), VERY decent gym, a "library" you can just check out like dozens of cool books, and they have a little afternoon 'happy hour' where they offer chips and salsa and soft drinks. And my fave: you can do your own laundry there VS paying for expensive hotel valet laundry service that costs an arm and a leg.
3. The staff is Sooooo nice, they went above and beyond at all times and they are genuinely friendly and professional.
4. Free shuttle to/from the airport
5. Located in the heart of Downtown and very close to the trendy areas near UTEP and Downtown.

PS to the first reviewer, by the time I checked out this week they were installing brand new carpeting throughout the entire hotel.

I am currently staying at this hotel and I have not come up with any concerns or complaints.

Sure it's not the newest hotel in town, but they seem to take care of it well. The staff has been friendly, helpful, and courteous.

As this is relatively close to where I'm working, I would not hesitate to stay here again.

Also, the review by Claud Q is still accurate.

Budget hotel done right. Comfy beds a la Westin's Heavenly collection and dogs welcomed. A hot continental breakfast will greet you in the morning and USA Today slides under your door for a homerun.

Thanks Holiday Inn.

Outdated - in need of refurbishing.  LOUD if your room is facing the highway - Terribly loud traffic noise.  Ask for the opposite side which faces the county courthouse and Amigo Bail Bonds.  The breakfast is OK, but the coffee is incredibly weak - like brown-tinted water.  One of the two elevators was out-of-service, had been that way for quite some time.

Cheap hotel right downtown. It's nice that we could have walked anywhere. The front desk guy was nice. The beds were pretty comfortable and they even had cable on tv! They have a lot of free amenities like shaving creme and toothpaste, which I took advantage of since I didn't bring any. The next morning, we had breakfast in the lobby which was alright. Small hotel, small dining area. I did like that they have an automatic pancake maker! Made it real simple even though it took a while to make a pancake. They were really nice since they had someone serving everyone their eggs and sausages. They even had gravy! They had a pretty good selection.

It sucked that I tried walking down the stairs to the lobby, but it only went to the second floor or outside to the swimming pool! I had to walk back up to the second floor just to take the elevator... wth? Our room did have a nice view of the freeway and the light up star. Awesome!

Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. I would use the term shit-hole but need to maintain my credibility in this review.

I worked a substantial amount of time in the hotel industry. Over 10 years with Marriott. And for the longest time only stayed in Marriott owned properties. Over time others have tried to convince me that I should try other chains. Repeatedly I have been disappointed with anything bearing the name of Holiday Inn. Every time the property has been hanging by a thread between being approved by building inspectors and condemnation. This property must have paid off the aforementioned building inspector. You can tell the outside of this property and lobby have been remodeled but the budget ceased there. The rooms are still old with low ceilings, dingy carpet and walls, and everything feels slighty musty and sticky.

But at least in the morning I was going to be able to have those delicious cinnamon rolls. Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. In the morning there were no cinnamon rolls. None when I arrived and and the breakfast attendant informed me they were terminado and there would be no mas. This was an  hour before breakfast was over. I would have attempted to complain but my espanol is limited. This will be my final stay at any property owned and operated by Holiday Inn and I suggest you do the same.

PS. I tried to come up with some whitty quip about "dumber for staying at a holiday inn last night" in mockery of their baseless commercials. Nothing clever came to mind, but you can eagerly anticipate an addition to this review when one does.

The customer service at this hotel goes so far beyond what you would expect!  My husband & I arrived in El Paso after a very long drive from CA only to find that our rental home wasn't ready. We were traveling w/our two dogs and had to find a hotel quickly. The hotel staff booked us in for the night very quickly and we had a very comfortable nights stay. That should have been the end of it, but the rental still wasn't ready the next day or the next after thst!  The staff was so accommodating  allowing us late ck outs everyday until we could find out if we could get into our home then extending our stay each night when we couldn't . They were real lifesavers!!! I say staff and I mean it everyone was just fantastic!!!

Hotel is fine, but we have a room on the 7th floor and the wi-fi signal is balls slow :(

that being said, great continental breakfast.  They have a little shuttle outside that will take you anywhere within 2 miles of the hotel.  We went to a Mexican restaurant down the street.   The Holiday Inn  has some computers in the lobby that have full speed internet which is what I'm writing this review on.  Free newspapers and Repubican Fox news on blast in the lobby which makes for good jokes and commentary while you're eating breakfast.  Warp speed elevator gets you where you need to go promptly.  The premises is well maintained and clean.  Free coffee in the lobby.  Small work out facilities w/ treadmills and elliptical (no weights).   If they could fix the slow Wifi in the hotel rooms, this would be a perfect holiday inn express.  $50 a night.....  pretty good value.

Becoming a fan of the Holiday Inn Expresses.  Maybe the Gypsyhawk tour hotel for 2013???

I felt bad giving them 4 stars instead of 5 because really we had such a good time and the staff was so nice. THEN to top it off, i read that Anson mother-effer's review, and it's clear to me that he's a racist douchebag, so to make up for his bias, i am upping this to 5 stars. Don't listen to a guy who says condescending things about spanish speaking people.

and anson, maybe if you hate trying to communicate with people who speak spanish, you should stay away from el paso. i'm sure they won't miss you.

So you're heading to El Paso and most of your budget is for great Mexican food and tequila!  You're on the hunt for a budget hotel and this HI Express will meet your need very nicely.

* Clean rooms and a solid housekeeping staff to keep them that way.
* Speaking of staff; everyone here is super friendly.
* Like every HIE, free breakfast.
* Nice location. Downtown is two blocks away.
* Free airport shuttle.
* Lots of deals on the room rate with many folks getting way under $100 night.

Save some $$ by staying here and you'll have enough to try that crazy Texas-sized one gallon margarita!

Breakfast was one of the best "free" continental we have EVER had. Great variety, fresh and always stocked full. Rooms were nice. Our room always felt a little damp and the even with the air the coldest it could go never got cold. Pool was closed so couldn't use it but was very small. The work out room isn't much of a workout room. Had 2 tredmills, 1 elliptical and 1 bike. The elliptical wasn't a very good one do be careful not to hurt yourself on it. One day around 6 they had chips/salsa/nacho cheese and cans of pop in the lobby for people to snack on. Not sure if they did this every day but it was nice of them. We were here for a bowling tournament at the convention center about 7 blocks away. Free shuttles were available from the hotel. The walk wasn't bad we usually did that. As soon as we got our luggage at the airport I called the hotel and with in 15 mins Cruze (the driver) picked us up. He was very nice and gave us some info and restaurants and things to do around town. I would stay at this hotel again

The location is amazing and right off the highway. The building itself is much older. I'm glad they finally fixed the elevator, he had been broken for months. The breakfast bufffet is simple and tasty. I do like that they have soft/hard pillow options which I don't see anywhere else. I will stay again for convience off the highway and price.

Something I just realized: I'm a lot like William H Macy in 'The Cooler.'

We're both kinda ginger-y, we both show signs of premature aging, and everything we touch breaks or mysteriously reaches a state of disrepair. It's a gift really.

I came here, checked in, took the elevator up to my room, tried to come back down and it was broken.

I brought some leftover back to my room, wanted to put them in the mini fridge, it wasn't working.

I start fudging with the mini fridge, trying to get it to work, then not only is it not working, but it also starts making an internal noise that sounds like there's a little man inside sandpapering the icebox.

Le sigh. Or as some would say in El Paso, 'El sigh.'

The hotel itself was fine, I think I just got a lemon... which is what usually happens to me.

The staff were beyond friendly. Truly. Hats off and 5-stars to them. Richard, the shuttle driver, was just about the nicest man ever. He was exactly the kinda guy you want to pick you up from the airport when you've just spent the last 5 hours on 4 different flights and could use a little cheering up.

When I arrived the woman at the front desk (who the sign told me was the general manager) was no different. Just as sweet as can be and she even let me check into my room 4 hours earlier than the regularly scheduled check-in time.

I loved that the hotel had a shuttle that'll take you to/from the airport or anywhere within 2 miles of the hotel. And I know normally when hotels say that the shuttle is almost always mysteriously unavailable when you want to use it, but that wasn't the case here. In fact, I saw my previously shuttle driver (Richard) in the lobby the second day of my stay and he practically chased me down to see if I needed a ride. I was actually kind of sad to say no and that my friend was actually waiting out front for me.

The hotel is pretty run of the mill otherwise. They have a really small outdoor pool just off the lobby, though it was closed for winter during my stay. My room overlooked El Amigo Bail Bonds and I could see all the way over to the famous Juarez 'X'. They have a continental breakfast in the morning that I never woke up in time for, but on Thursday evening I got back to the hotel early in the evening and their was some sort of left over buffet set up in the lobby. Most everything had already been ransacked, but I did manage to gank a cookie... that was burnt but in the good way. I wasn't even hungry but I couldn't help but scarf it down.

The have free wifi and the TV had basic channels, a few cable one likes MTV, VHI, and all the other ones that used to be educational but now only show ridiculous reality shows, and HBO. The little paper slip that had all the channels and numbers on it was pretty badly stained with something yellow. That was kinda gross, but of course I still picked it up and put it on my nightstand because my love for TV is stronger than my gross-stuff gag reflex.

What I didn't enjoy was that the elevator (that broke basically as soon as I got there) wasn't able to be fixed during my entire stay. They still had one other elevator, but it was so slooow having to wait for every floor and everyone else staying at the hotel PLUS, all the construction guys were using it so you basically had to take the stairs unless you had an extra 10 minutes to wait, and wait, and wait. And what I REALLY didn't enjoy was being woken up every morning from the sounds of my room walls shaking and the sounds of drill and buzz saws and other noises that make it impossible to sleep, work, concentrate, etc. Not ideal. Also, the shower head and water pressure suuuucks but I'm also kind of a hotel water pressure snob so it might be fine for others.

This isn't my first choice of place to stay when I come back to El Paso, but it's in a decent area, within walking distance from a few cool spots and ranks as a solid 'OK' in my book.

I believe this was my first ever Holiday Inn Express experience, so maybe the rating is more out of uneducated expectations.  Let me give the positives first; free breakfast and wi-fi and girly bath and body works amenities.  The negative, I was scared out of my mind by a homeless man in the parking lot on the way in (not hotels fault) which gave me an unsafe feeling from the get-go.  The furniture in the room was beat up and the gym equipment barely functioning. The omelet that I got out of the breakfast buffet was frozen.  And lastly, it is across from a bail bond building.  I would give it 2 stars but felt the staff was too nice for that.

Its like a mash-up of the St. Frances Motel in the movie Big where Tom Hanks cries himself to sleep and a real Holiday Inn Express.

- Room's carpet and paint were still off-gassing, I kept my door open for a hour to reduce the smell
- Halls and stairwell look like something from a procedural crime drama, scary
- Thermostat in the room was 72 degrees or off.  Take it or leave it

- Lobby and room had been recently remolded (++)

It could get two more stars with a little more training and completing the renovation.  I will try it again in a few months.

We enjoyed this hotel tremendously.
1. The staff is extremely focused on Customer Service
2. AWESOME pool (nice and warm
3. INCREDIBLE free Breakfast

It would be 5 stars, except there were NO towels at the pool! What else is new? This is a typical problem at these hotels... NO FREAKING TOWELS AT THE POOL!!!!!
