    This is the best place to stay in downtown Houston. The staff Are accommodating and attentive. Rooms are comfortable and have Renoir Eric mattresses.

    I've stayed here more than any other hotel. I had a lot of work in Houston this year so I stayed here for almost 6 weeks total. The first time I stayed it was a stint of 9 days and I stayed as your average traveler. The next time I stayed it was for 16 days and it was as a gold member of the awards club. The second time the bed was far better than that first. Also the first time I stayed my room had almost all broken outlets which proved to be a problem. The second time the room was a little nicer and I liked that. I'm not a big fan of the soap or shampoo choices, but the free USA Today is fine with me. The wifi always came complimentary for me on each stay but wasn't very fast, don't try to download large documents. I always found the rooms to be clean and smell nice as were the linens and shower. I hated the middle layers of covers on the bed, it was very scratchy and uncomfortable so eventually I started tossing it aside and the maids got the idea and stopped putting it on. Of course the dry cleaning is very expensive as is the food, but in both cases it's very good service. Everyone I delt with was very good except for maybe one case where my food was a little slow. My only big qualm is it just isn't super modern or breath taking of a hotel, but the stay will be fine. Just underwhelming.

    I stayed here again in late September through October because my department was holding a conference in the building next door and my team was staying in this hotel.  I stayed here to "be a part of the team".  Upon checking in they advised they had upgraded me to a Jr. Suite . . . . . I immedidately said, "No! Thank you but I would prefer a regular room on the quiet floor".  Oh boy, there was no way I was going to re-live the experience I had a year ago.  Thankfully they put me in a fairly quiet room.  The room itself is really nothing spectacular - it's just a basic run of the mill hotel room.  Some of the paint was peeling up from the bathtub where they tried to resurface it.  I heard from my co-workers that theirs was peeling up too.

    I ordered room service for breakfast one morning.  My omlete arrived overcooked and very dry.  I couldn't eat it because it tasted bad from being overcooked.   One nice thing was the lady that brought the room service remembered me from last year and said hi and asked how my son was doing since he wasn't with me this time.  I thought this was very sweet of her to remember after a year had gone by since we had been at this hotel.  She was very nice.  

    One of my co-workers checked out of this hotel after two days and checked into the Hyatt down the street because in her words, this hotel "is gross"!  LOL.

    Here for a course, felt ripped off for the price. Overcharged for two hundred/night. Rooms were fine, hotel is three star at most, room service stops at midnight and isn't that great. Issues w ac/heat. If you get this hotel dirt cheap, would recommend.

    I've stayed at  hotels with less star ratings and received better room incentives. The rooms were vary small and did not include a mini fridge. On the bright side, valet is only 12/day for weekends. The hotel staff was extremely friendly and very accommodating. The interior does need updating. I also was disappointed in my fluctuating shower on Sunday morning. I'm sure everyone was checking out of the hotel, but again, the less of a star hotel had better plumbing.

    I have attended two high school proms at this hotel (I'm a teacher, not a creepy teenager-stalker) and the hotel is nice but a little shabby.  It's got a great downtown location. We were able to find ample street parking for free in the evening.  Don't valet park until you've checked out the surrounding streets.  The staff were all very friendly, which is sometimes hit or miss when you have 100 or more crazy high school seniors running around. The prom was catered with a full meal. There was stuffed chicken, pork, beef, steak fries, veggies, rolls, and dessert. The food was actually incredibly good! I was stuffed! The staff manning the prom were all great and quick to refill glasses etc... I still thought the place was a little worn and needs updating.

    This is a lovely hotel that will arrange for a good group rate for you.  They arranged for $99 discounted rate (plus tax puts you at around $115 to $116 a night).

    The rooms were a nice size, complete with temperpedic beds, ear plugs, a light mask, and a sleep easy hypnosis CD, free in-room Internet when you plug in, decent views of downtown, a work out room and pool.  I didn't use the workout or pool, but did try and use the busy center while waiting for my lap top to arrive with a colleague.  Unfortunately, the business center was always full and only had 2 computers.

    The restaurant/bar had an affordable happy hour ans yummy snacks, but friends had lunch there and said it was over priced with really bad service.

    However, our seminar's buffet of sandwiches, salad, soup, and dessert was well staffed and yummy.

    Another cool thing about the hotel was the free shuttle service until 10:45 pm at night, and the drivers were good at giving tips about where to go for night life. (see my review about the wings place, massas, and pub fiction).

    All in all, this hotel did a good job of managing our 280 people conference.

    Nice place to stay inthe southeast corner of downtown Houston.  Good experience for New Year's Eve.  This is an old property but has been refurbished and was clean.  The only negatives were mandatory valet parking and the beds were not very comfortable.  The room looked nice.  The room size was fine although the bathroom was very small-but did include a tub.  The mattress was a "memory foam" mattress which I did not care for.  Also could hear some room noise from doors closing nearby.  TV was nice, and included many channels.  No fridge or mini-bar.  Driving here at night made it a little tricky to find, since it has one way streets on all sides.  There was a Keurig coffee maker in the room; if I had known I would have brought my own K-cups. A/C worked fine and was quiet.

    Overall a decent experience. If you are considering this hotel, keep in mind that Houston's downtown is a ghost town on the weekends and this hotel charges $12 per day to park Friday - Saturday, and $24 every other day.

    I am currently sitting at the desk in my room and enjoying the free internet.  I think it should be free at every single hotel.  I hate staying somewhere that would charge for one day of Internet service.  

    I've been here since Sunday and I am leaving tomorrow.  It's such a long time in Houston and I am ready to go home!  

    Anyways, Currently in a regular room with a king size tempurpedic bed and nice lg tv that i want in my room.  It's a nice room..  freeway noise is a tad annoying but you'll get used to it.  

    They do have a free shuttle service that will bring you within five miles of the hotel which is very convenient!  Try to take advantage of it if you do stay here.

    I ate at the restaurant on the second floor twice so far.  It's called Brazos.  Very delicious food and a good variety.  Disappointed to not see a dessert menu when I ate at the bar but the second time I was seated and the waiter brought out a plate full with cakes and cheesecakes.  Very tempting seeing it there but I resisted.  At the bar they do need to get new bar stools.  Felt kind of awkward with the bar so high up and the chairs so low.  

    Im attending classes here for work so it was nice to experience the food provided by the hotel.  The food was great.  I really liked their mexican and Italian food that they offered.  I wasn't a fan when they served us roast beef.  I didn't really like the sauce they marinated it in.  

    The staff here has been wonderful and very hospitable.  I would recommend this hotel to people visiting Houston based off of my experience.

    Clean, big rooms.  Only issue was our breakfast room service was late but it came pretty much immediately after we called them about it.  The room was very cold despite having our heater on the highest setting.  We called the front desk and they found that our heater was always set at 70 degrees regardless of our settings.  They brought a space heater in the meantime and fixed the heater while we were out that day.  So, despite the issues, they were pleasant and quick to deal with our complaints.
    They have a shuttle service for the downtown area which was nice but the drivers were not particularly pleasant.
    It was disappointing that they did not have a shuttle to the airport but we ended up taking the metro ($1.25, 1 hour ride).

    It's kinda a crap shoot, here's why: I came in around noon on a Wednesday (so not a heavy booked day) on an extended business trip and requested a room away from elevators and ice machines, preferably a corner room at the end of the hallway - my standard request. The daytime lady manager told me no rooms were ready, come back later, so I went and ate lunch. Came back and she told me there was still no room ready but when she called the cleaning lady, apparently the room she had in mind for me was ready after all. I was told this was a nicer "restored" room, that's why she made me wait. Got to it and it was two doors down from the elevator, but I took her word it was gonna be quiet and nice.

    I tried to tough it out but It was the opposite of what she said. Because I am such a light sleeper all night long I ended up listened to the "ding, ding" of the elevator stopping at the floor, and the voices of people talking up and down the corridor! Almost worse, the room was on par with a motel room - peeling paint, a shower that hissed and spurted (and never flowed smooth), broken closet door that wouldn't move and the room tiny enough to rank as the second most 'depressing' room I've stayed at in the last 10 years...

    As I had another 8 nights to stay there I had to go the next day after my 12 hour day and request a different room. The tall guy was 100% better than the lady manager. I said I didn't want to be difficult, but it was just too noisy for me, so anywhere else away from elevators would be fine. He was apologetic, and after a few seconds of a search came up what he stated as "the most quiet room I can find for you, a corner room." He told me don't worry about returning the key for the first room, just move to the new one. Sure enough, after packing all my stuff and moving down to the corner room, it was perfect. At the end of the hallway, quiet as a church mouse, and just a few feet larger than the previous room made all the difference in the world! I immediately went down and tipped the guy and thanked him. For the next 8 nights I slept like a baby, the shower flowed with good pressure, and though not perfect, the room was a sanctuary at the end of my long work days. Boo on the lady day manager, either she was in-experienced, had never seen the rooms for herself, perhaps did not care for my Devilish good looks :), or just didn't give a hoot!

    This eloquent hotel is cheaper and more accommodating than I expected. The lobby is impressive with a grand staircase leading up to the hotel bar/restaurant. This place is also a nice place to grab a drink (before midnight). The breakfast is better than most. It is packed with everything from eggs, muffins, cereal, and fruit. The location may not be right next to the sites you are seeking, so check ahead. There is a shuttle that takes you downtown. The rooms are spacious too, at least the one I stayed in.

    One tends to have great expectations for a big name hotel in the heart of the downtown of a big city, but I was definitely looking for more when I stayed at the Crowne Plaza Houston Downtown.  The valet workers are awesome, quick, and accommodating.  Check in and check out were seamless.  However, that's about it.  The hotel lobby is mediocre, the hallways are hot with dirty floors, and the rooms are tiny, cramped, and lacking basics such as a mini fridge, robes, and luggage rack.  The beds were seriously Motel 6 style, hard with thin, cheap blankets as rough as sandpaper and pillows that didn't budge.  The one chair in the room was beyond uncomfortable.  The service is great, but the furniture and linens need upgrading.

    Our room is extremely small, for the price we expected something similar to the Zaza. It was 263.00 for the romance package and it's kind of hard to be romantic when there is trash laying in the bathroom floor when we arrived, the paint is peeling off the bathtub and the ceilings, the shower lost pressure half way thru my shower, definitely not what we expected, bartender Chris is very good and friendly

    I absolutely love finding a hotel in a city that has kept it's date and culture.  Crowne Plaza Downtown on Smith Street absolutely captures that.  The great news is they have found a way to maintain it  in the way you hope an older property would but very hard to find.

    Beds are temperpedic and amazing. Big Screen TV;  Wifi free.  Pool area is awesome.  Gym is complete.  Breakfast buffet has everything you could imagine and if you need more, the staff is happy to accommadate your needs just ask.

    The conceirge and front desk staff is as accommodating as a Four Seasons Hotel.  Tell them what you need and they make it happen.

    There is also a shuttle free of charge to any place in downtown.  Such a bonus.

    Also just love the snacks and water/lemonade  they provide in the lobby free of charge.

    This place is a jewel.. Glorious urban spot to stay in Downtown amidst great Houston architecture.. easy access to the rail, walking distance to Bayou Music Center, Houston Library,  and restaurants..

    I will stay here again and again.. love it!

    I had a doctors appointment in Houston so I booked a room for one night.  The only bad thing about my stay was that it was too short!  I was on an upper floor so I couldn't hear the highway traffic.  I had checked the reviews on their website and saw a couple of complaints about traffic noise on lower floors, so I made sure to ask for a higher floor.  My room was great, very clean, there was a big screen tv and free wifi.  

    The bed was amazing, extremely comfortable, I usually have trouble sleeping in hotels, but I had one of the best nights sleep ever.  I woke up wishing that I could stay longer.  I asked the front desk what kind of bed it was, she said it was a tempurpedic.  I am definitely getting one the next time I replace my mattress.

    The staff went above and beyond to make sure that my stay was a good one.  I belong to their rewards program so I was able to bypass the line at check in and I got a complimentary breakfast buffet.  The breakfast buffet was amazing!  It was huge, the food was so good, it was extremely fresh and it had everything you could possibly want.  The hotel has easy access to the highways.  They have a free shuttle service that will take you anywhere that you want to go in the downtown area.  The overnight parking charge is a little expensive but so is the rest of downtown parking.  I highly recommend staying here!

    Very nice place to stay in downtown Houston. Although it's in the most southwest corner of downtown, it's location is great for using the local #88 bus to/from Hobby Airport (the bus on the other hand...is interesting). The hotel also provides free shuttle service to anywhere in downtown.

    The staff was very friendly, and excitingly gave me a recommendation for breakfast. They also gave me an upgraded room with a view of downtown when I asked if there was a room available with a view (I had used Hotwire). The upgraded room came with a king-size Tempur-Pedic bed! This was the first time I've ever been on one, and oh my goodness was it awesome. I need to get one ASAP.

    The room was small but cozy. The hotel seems a bit older, but well maintained. Could use better lighting in the rooms, but oh well. I wish they used large comforters rather than the sleek sheets setup, bu the room stayed very comfortable.

    Good location for the bus to Hobby, great staff, and one ridiculously comfortable bed. I'll certainly look to stay here should I need a place in downtown Houston again.

    We had a two day meeting at this location and since the staff was so wonderful, I've given the place 3 stars.  Like other readers, I agree that the place needs a serious renovations!!!  The conference room we used was stuffy; the AC did not work, although we had someone come up and check it...still didn't work well.  We were crammed in a small room with a long table and translators tucked in a corner..could have accommodated our group better.  The room - the bed was the best asset in the room.  Very comfortable and believe it was new.  The bathroom was tiny...and I mean small.

    Decent check in service, fast room service, free apples (actually really useful) but lots of room for improvement. You need to go outside into the pool area to get to the gym. So if it's cold, it sucks. The gym itself consists of basic equipment. Except the tvs randomly dont get basic channels for monday night football. The channels started at univision, which isnt bad unless u are trying to rock a workout and watch football. Neither of the tvs on the elliptical trainers worked, and the gym smells of smoke due to its proximity to the pool/smoking area.

    In my room, i dont get fox business on my tv. Luckily, i got it in the gym lol.

    Little frustrating things that kind of add up.

    Room was decent, stayed pretty warm the whole weekend we were there! The worse issue was when we got home and found out after our stay there we got bed bugs! Contacted the hotel, as this was the only place we had been in the last couple of months, and they assured me someone would call me back the next day! Next day came......nothing! Called them back said that person was back logged and they would call me tomorrow!! Tomorrow came nothing!! Called them and was told by the General Manager he would comp the room but that's all! Now mind you we had 7 rooms with 10 different couples in these rooms and three of the couples have ended up with bed bugs! But they swear they didn't come from their hotel! NOW I get the joys of spending $2500 to have my house treated, and they said sorry they could comp the room! NEVER AGAIN will I spend my money with Crown Plaza or Marriott!!

    I spent one night here in between a cruise that left from Galveston and my flight the next day to head back home. The hotel had clean and comfy beds, delicious breakfast included in the cost of one night's stay, flat screen tv with a decent amount of channels and a shuttle that would take you anywhere within a 1 mile radius of the hotel! The staff was friendly and helpful when we asked questions about the surrounding area and where we should visit to get a feel for Houston since we only had one day.

    The only downside is that the hotel is a bit pricey, but you are paying for the brand name and all the amenities so if you book a bit ahead of time and don't pay the day of rates, it's definitely worth it.

    Probably won't stay here again. The place is a bit dumpy. They gave me a room right by the service elevator which was very loud and ran until 10pm. The fitness center only had 2 working machines and they didn't have any cups for water or headsets available. The room service was fine but took about 30 min and my chocolate ice cream was entirely melted when the food arrived to my room. The room itself was fine though. The tub was a bit icky but the bed was comfortable.

    I was in town for a meeting last week and the company I went to put me up in the Crowne Plaza.  Good hotel located in the heart of Houston.  Unfortunately, I got there around 1:30am and the only rooms available where next to the dreaded elevator shaft.  I knew I was in trouble when the front desk clerk sighed....  "I'm sorry sir, we only have rooms located next to the elevator".  DOOMED!  However, at 1:30am and a meeting start time of 8:30am I had little choice.  But I asked myself "How bad could it really be?".   I have stayed at many hotels where I was next to the elevator and except for the occasional spirited group of people it was always workable.  

    I went to the room.  Wonderful view of Houston.  The room was very clean, including the bathrooms. Spacious and inviting.  Beds had great linens and plenty of pillows (I didn't have to take the ones from the second bed).  Of course there was the clock radio light which can never be dimmed to a level below a lighthouse.  So I covered it as I always do.  So far no noise.....  It should be fine....... Or so I thought.

    After decompressing from two flights, setting up for the next day I put my head down and relaxed.  Then it happened..... an almost unexplainable rattling and the sound of cables tensing up.... then the kicker.... a hydraulic sounding "woosh" when the car stopped.  I estimated that I fell asleep around 3am.  When the cars stopped for the most part.  

    The next morning I ate breakfast in their restaurant.  Nice and fresh buffet.  $15 dollars but there is a lot of fresh food, good coffee and the staff was fine.  One major annoyance is the restaurant is across from the ballrooms.  There was an event.  And it was almost impossible to navigate through all the people to get to the gift shop.  Still, it's a small annoyance.  

    I checked out in the AM and bid them farewell.  I did have a great experience with the valet service who provided me a lift to the meeting.  Nice people, make sure you tip the people who provide you service.  Just because they work for a big time employer never assume they make more than minimum wage.  Most of them depend upon the tips and provide superior service.  

    Look, I'd stay here again and raise my rating much higher if I were to have a room at least two rooms away from the elevator.   It's a nice hotel.  I recommend it, just make sure you do early checkin online to secure the room you want and you will be fine.  I'm sticking with two stars because I have had much better experiences at many other fine and not so fine hotels.

    Older, outdated hotel with excellent people. Room was adequate but coffee machine did not work and blankets were low quality.

    Ate at hotel restaurant and had no complaints. Again, the people here are great even if the food is just average. Prices were not bad for a hotel restaurant.

    I would recommend this place IF you can get a good price.

    Note that the valet parking is NOT free ($26 per night).

    One star for now.  Stayed last night, and left a necklace in my room. I will review it after they call me back.  If they "cannot find it", I will update (either way).

    Update ! They called me, they have my CHANEL neckace !!! They could have easily kept it, but they were honest and I am so happy !!!! The restaurant is very good as well and I will stay there again.
