I'm a semi frequent traveler & was very impressed by the kindness of the hotel staff. Every morning when I entered the lobby I saw a smiling face greeting me. Also one night I was at a bar 10 blocks from hotel. I called them for a shuttle & in 5 min they were at the bar, in a Porsche no less, picking me up. That's top notch service. Highly recommend this hotel.

The room was great, however the customer service needs work! It was valentines day, I had ordered chocolate covered strawberries and champagne. When I called to order this I was quoted a false price. When we got to the room at 3 pm we had received the items. When we got back from dinner there were more in the room, which we did not order but were still charged for!!! Then at midnight we had a bellhop barge into our room with room service we had again NOT ordered! I understand that valentines weekend is going to be busy however I expected much better customer service from a five star hotel.

Nicola at JW Marriott Houston was great, he acknowledged my "Marriott Rewards" status and went above and beyond on my room stay there.  Excellent hotel, great location and customer service rocks.  Thank you Nicola!

I prefer to stay at Marriott Hotels whenever possible due to them being predictable and having above average service and amenities, so this may be biased. Each and employee greeted me with enthusiasm and provided even better service than I expected. The hotel seems new and the room was spacious. The only negative was that I could hear the ice machine and what may have been the hot water circulation system when trying to get to sleep. I would stay again and just ask to stay at the end of a hallway so that these sounds would not impact my sleep.

Amazing experience here! Dave and Luisa were fantastic. They made sure we were taken care of and all of our requests met. The rooms beautiful and spacious. The huge tub was big enough to fit my 6'9" body. I highly recommend it.  There were surprises from the moment we checked in.

I really wanted to enjoy this hotel. While the ambience is gorgeous and the rooms are beautiful the services are below satisfaction.  It's unfortunate that the only positive things we can say about this place is that the beds are comfy and the bathtub is amazing. Other than that we had mediocre service by a supposed first class hotel who apparently didn't plan to have enough staff for the valentine holiday. We waited 2.5 hours for towels, we waited overnight for someone to come pick up room service, our suite was supposed to have a pull out couch it was not there so we asked for a rollaway bed. No rollaway bed ever arrived only someone who brought sheets. So people slept on a couch  which is not acceptable for the amount  of money we spent. The food is delicious but the service is horrific.  Staff made excuses that it's usually not as busy which is not an excuse because you should prepare to have enough staff for a holiday.  Included in this trainwreck their was a horrible valet service as well.  Only 4 people if that many and they  haf to park and get cars all while trying to not get hit by the metro rail. If this Is How Marriott shows customer service I don't think a fantastic tub will be enough to get me to come back.

I was expecting a replacement for FS Houston, but what I got was a reminder of how good the service at the FS (actually ANY Four Seasons) is.

1.  Property - JW Downtown is nice, new, and very clean.  Probably because it is new.  We will see how it looks in a couple of years, if it's run down or not.  Won't be surprised if it's not so good then considering the level of service I got, perhaps that's the level of upkeep we should expect as well.

2.  Service - subpar.  I will cite examples:
a.  Called down at 2am to do in room dining, they have 24h in room dining - no answer.  Placed on hold for 10 minutes, no response.  Called back, no answer.  Called again and again - no answer.  Finally gave up around 245am.  Had to call back at 7am to place my in room dining breakfast order... basically my sleep was cut in half because I wanted to place a breakfast order the night before but couldn't until the morning of. After I called, I went back to sleep.

b.  Check in person was not knowledgeable about the property.  I requested for a microwave, he said there are none in the property.  I went to my 1bd suite, found a microwave hidden next to the bar!  What the!!!  It was a good thing we found a microwave, but disappointing that the staff didn't even know what they had at their own hotel.

c.  Hotel staff could not give me directions to CVS 24h.  Now, this may not seem like a lot, but I was at the Four Seasons Houston a few months prior and same thing happened, had to go on a milk run for the baby - I asked the hotel staff there, she printed and circled the directions, basically everything short of driving me there... here at the JW, he just goes, "I'm not sure where it is".  Where's the service?  JW states on their website that they go "above and beyond" and go the "extra mile".  All I saw was the same service I'd get at the Holiday Inn.  Subpar.

d.  Room was not the cleanest.  I mean it was clean because it was new... but there was a dirty coffee stirrer on the bar... kind of a put off given that this hotel is supposed to be a luxury chain.

e.  Called down to get our in room dining silverware taken away.  Had to call again 2h later because they forgot.  Then some lady came without a cart to haul away our stuff, and she was so underprepared for the number of plates and dishes that she almost had to make 2 trips.  This does not happen at the FS.

f.  When the bellman dropped our stuff, that was basically it.  He just dropped it at the closest spot near the front door.  No tour of the room, nothing.  This does not happen at the FS Houston where they arrange your luggage where you want it, place it on top of benches and luggage racks for you.  I bet FS Houston would unpack for you if you wanted.

g.  The in room dining was OK... they would not set the table when they delivered room service.  FS Houston, you order breakfast - they set the table for you, the dishes and utensils are well laid out.  Here, they come in with the tray and plop it on the dining room table.  Subpar.   How can you compete with the FS if this is the type of service you provide??

3.  VALET - absolute worst.  Never had a valet staff never greet me appropriately when we pull up for the first time to check in.  Basically, we pulled in, there were probably 3 valet people standing around, we had to wait in the car for perhaps 45 seconds before a valet person tried to open my wife's door.  45 seconds may not seem a lot, and it's not in the grand scheme of things, but think about it, sit in a car for 45 seconds in silence as you wait to see what's going to happen.  I had to initiate the process, I had to get out on my own and ask to see if someone can start helping us check in, load our luggage, etc.  It was piss poor given that this is a hotel that is supposed to rival 5 star chains.  There was no "hello or welcome to JW Marriott, are we checking in today?"

At the FS Houston, you pull in, a valet runs to your car and asks you "Are you checking in today?  Great!  Welcome to the Four Seaons!  Can I help you with your luggage?"

Here it was like crickets.

Great property, looks nice, nice tub and good sized 1 bedroom suite.  But that's where it stops, service subpar... valet even worse.

This is not a 5 star resort.  I would say that given my experience with 5 and 4 star hotels, this is probably more of a 5 star property but a 3 star service and staff.

This hotel is incredible. Warm and modern the employees are friendly and attentive and the whole experience was extremely luxurious.

We loved the giant soaking tubs and cloud like beds with huge large screen televisions. Most information and requests can be found and made using your rooms iPad.

This is hands down one of the top hotels I have stayed at and wouldn't hesitate to return if I come back to Houston.

My review is for the Spa not the hotel. The spa is very calming and the staff is welcoming. I was offered a hot towel and beverage upon entering. But the reason I came is because Amanda is the best Esthetician anyone could ever have!! I went to Amanda for my first ever Brazilian last year at a different location and when she left I had to track her down because she's THAT good! She explains everything, she kept me at ease and most of all she knows what she's doing. Waxing is a personal and painful experience, but when you have someone like Amanda it doesn't have to be so bad. I highly recommend visiting the spa during your stay at JW Marriott Downtown.

Great idea, but horrible execution. If you are driving in, the only valet/drop-off location is on Main St -- a 1-way street that is next to the metro tracks. They get so backed up that you will literally sit at the light in front of the hotel for 7-10 light cycles, which can be a good 10-15 minutes. With the tracks, you are unable to turn left or right, you just have to wait. With numerous trips downtown, I have been stuck in this disaster of logistics and would've expected a little bit of common sense on the part of J.W.'s planning.

This hotel is NOT gay friendly. We were not served at the bar and we were not served by the valet. On a separate note we did not get the room we requested and the room service was cold.

Great hotel in the heart of downtown. It's only about 5 months old, so everything is brand new, clean and updated. The rooms have a comfy bed and are very sleek. The staff provides excellent service and was very prompt. We had an amazing breakfast buffet at the restaurant on Sunday and enjoyed great drinks at the bar on Saturday night. Definitely will stay here again!

I travel to Houston a lot for business. This is my new favorite downtown hotel. Rooms are spacious and modern, beds are very comfortable, high quality in room amenities (Nespresso, aromatherapy bath products, etc).

The hotel has easy access to the tunnels that connect downtown, which is key when it is blazing hot or raining. The hotel staff is incredibly nice and provides top notch service.

Highly recommend giving this property a try.

I really wanted to write a more positive review and have been holding off to do so since May 9th; however, it is May 19th and we have yet to receive what we were promised.  Here goes:

A few mommy friends and I stayed in an Executive Suite on May 8th to kick off our Mother's Day weekend.  We had drinks in the bar, beautifully decorated, nice crowd, but extremely slow service, made candles in wine glasses in our room, had Pappasito's catered in, and had planned an evening out at one of the local bars, but that part didn't happen.  It didn't happen because as one of the moms was in the restroom brushing her teeth, the very heavy door underneath the vanity came crashing down on her shin and foot!  We immediately notified the front desk who sent security and the night shift manager up to our suite within minutes. By now, she's laying on the couch with ice on her leg and foot that have already began to bruise and swell.  The manager and security manager meet in the bathroom to assess the issue and come out extremely apologetic saying "there was a screw missing and the door malfunctioned.  It's not even a functional door."  We then ask what they will do to "fix" our inconvenience due to the injury.  They leave out and come rushing back in with two bottles of champagne and wine glasses, oh, and an Injury Report to be completed.  As the manager goes to place the champagne on the table, down goes 2 of the wine glasses shattering ALL OVER THE PLACE!!!  By this time we've really had it but are being patient because they really were being extremely nice and apologetic to our party (so much for a relaxing start to our weekend!).  Anyway, the manager promised us a FREE return visit for 1 night in the Vice Presidential Suite for our troubles.  By now her leg is very swollen and bruised mind you.  We thought that was reasonable and fair and were good with that promise.  Fast forward to 8am the next morning.  We go down for breakfast as a group.  I walk over to the front desk to settle up our return visit to stay in the Vice Presidential Suite, and I hear crickets.  Nothing.  Blank stare.  They knew nothing about it.  So I invited the now day manager over to our table so he could interview the others and not think I totally made it up.  They told him exactly what we were promised, and his response was, "that is something that has to be approved by upper management, and we don't have the authority to invite you back.  I will work on it.  Here is my card (handed one out to each person at the table).  If you don't hear from me by tomorrow please follow up, but I'm going to the back right now to start working on the request."  What request?  That's what was offered to us...we knew nothing about a Vice Presidential Suite sir.  Several phone calls later, and we have yet to receive a returned call back or any information on that promise to return to that "Vice Presidential Suite."  What happened to making good on your word?  Where is the customer service?  Someone was injured on your property due to a malfunction or improper installation of a very heavy door.  Next step...no more Mr. Nice Guy!!!!

I came here after a night of working, it was also st.Patricks day.
I enjoyed the lounge area where I relaxed and had a few glasses of wine, my partner joined me shortly after I arrived.
Service was a bit slow, however, our server was pleasant even when we came in later in the evening.  This was nice as compared to some places where the server is upset you are coming in last minute.
The restrooms are clean, definitely lady friendly.
We had a good time relaxing until some people from off the street came in and started yelling and attempting to fight, it scared many patrons including a father and daughter in the lobby.
The management handled the situation quick and efficiently which was good and reassuring.
This is not something against the establishment, but does remind all of us how it is in downtown Houston, especially on holidays.
Cops arrived in seconds and more than 3, so it was handled very well.
