Pretty good hotel! Had great amenities! You really cant complain much since the rooms were clean! Pool and basketball court were good. Glad this hotel is close to alot of places downtown as well. Right across the Galleria which is convenient. One thing that I wish they would have had is free parking if you stay as a guest but cant complain about that since most places do that.

My family ran a 5 star resort so I am very picky when it comes to reviews of hotels.  That said, I got a room here on Hotwire (love it!) and paid about 80 bucks a night.  The hotel is so un Marriott like it is a breath of fresh air.  The pool and gym is great (unlike Hotel Derek) and the aromatherapy in the lobby is amazing.  Cold, infused water in pitchers await the weary guest.  The rooms are great, location is excellent and I would highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for a moderately priced room in the Galleria area.  Try Hotwire!  I also like the Intercontinental in the same area.

The place is clean and well maintained. My cousins stayed here. The rooms were great too. Also, its right in the middle of the galleria. SO, huge number of eating / shopping options. Parking is kind of a pain if you are not staying here. But, you can park in the galleria or one of the strip centers close by and walk over.

So only one restaurant is available to guests and it is the downstairs lobby bar. I thought it was impossible to have a bad steak in Houston - well I was proved wrong. The bar was busy with business men having drinks and as a result the service was lousey. I had to fetch my meal from the counter as the waitress wsa too busy to realise that my meal was ready. I waited 45 minutes for the meal to arrive and whne it did it was unedible. $29 for a 5 cm steak which was overdone not as I ordered. The chips were not bad.

Whohooo, my home of 48 hours... great location (next to the Galleria which is a huge mall), good rooms, and conference rooms (where I lived most of my stay while in Houston)

I love the Marriott bed, and am purchasing one for my own home...

Great lobby, great service.  No issues.

when we got in, it was a quick checkin time. the hotel completed our request of a king bed, close to elevator, and lower floor. they gave us a good view of the galleria.
when we ran out of toilet paper, we used the extra roll in the closet. the toilet paper was wet and moldy. it seemed as if no one checks the inventory to ensure that it is still in good condition. we tipped the hotel maid $5 a day. i can say that that person fulfilled every request and ensured that the room was cleaned on a daily basis. the hotel parking is charged per night when booking directly with the hotel. the parking required a card to access the lot. when parking, there elevators that led up to your rooms. it felt secure and easy to access your car. all together it gets 4 stars since the wet and moldy toilet paper in closet.

Oooh, I get a first to review in Houston? Exciting!

This is my new home away from home, and I could not be happier about it. Well I could be, and I will be, when they finish building the second bar and restaurant! But I digress.

Service is wonderful, the concierge lounge is great, and the rooms are large, clean, and new. Love the LG flat screens, and the comfy towels (thank you for extra plush). My coworkers used to stay at the Westin Oaks and have been abandoning it in favor of the JW Marriott!

This is one very comfortable and classy Marriott hotel.  Great service, as well as nicely appointed and spacious rooms  It's across the street from the Galleria and offers free parking next to the Walgreens just down Westheimer.  I have stayed here and attended meetings both within the hotel and separate convention building.  It's always been a pleasure and a treat, especially when your out of town and away from your family.

One of the best hotels in the country. I've stayed at dozens of hotels all over, and this hotel has everything you need. The beds are very comfortable, and the rooms are spacious. This JW has the best fitness center of any hotel that I've frequented which makes staying fit on the road much easier. There is plenty of underground parking, and several dining and shopping options in the area.

This is my favorite place to stay while in Houston. Not only is it in the Galleria area, but the stay has always been top-notch. The beds! The rooms! The dining! The view! The pool! The exercise room! The location!

Did I get you excited? If not, then you just have to see for yourself. You will not be disappointed.

By the way, we get concierge lounge service and we've always been pleased with the access to the lounge, computer, snacks, drinks, and magazines. They've always treated us like family and when we go back, I know it will still be the same.

Fab hotel with grandeur style and great service.  Rooms are plush and nicely decorated. The breakfast buffet for Platinum members made the difference from a good experience to a great experience; free hot and cold breakfast with coffee made this my one stop shop every morning.  Not to mention the location is superb across from the galleria, with lots of choices to take up your time and hurt your wallet.  Great value for the money as well.

A big comfy bed, excellent service, helpful staff  and a reliable internet connection is what a traveller like me needs.  I slept so good in my king sized bed with eight big fluffy pillows.  It is a bit pricey, but it is worth every penny that you get in service, cleanliness, and quiet.  I wish I was staying there tonight.  The big plus is this hotel is located in the Galleria area of Houston, so there are a ton of great restaurants, such a Morton's Steakhouse.  What I like is the Walgreen's across the street, as I forgot to pack toothpaste but I was able to go somewhere and get a tube at a decent price.

I love Marriott Hotels!

The bed is super comfortable and the room is nice. My coworkers are raving about the pool. The food in the restaurant isn't bad.

But the shower has no water pressure and internet isn't included in the price. Is wifi really that expensive, Marriott?

Very nice hotel. However the comforter in our room had a stain on it, which I don't feel is acceptable at a four plus star hotel.  Also we were charged 17 dollars for a parking lot which was uncovered and unattended. Walking to the hotel in the rain is not my idea of high class for a hotel of this standard. On another note we attended the Five minutes to midnight new years eve event. I'm not really into the R&B and hip hop but it was enjoyable. The ten dollar drinks were not. It was advertised that we would receive complimentary champagne at midnight. They offered champagne but it was self serve and pretty much a free for all with party goers tilting the fountain to get the last remaining dregs of champagne a full ten minutes before midnight. Completely unacceptable for the caliber of the event advertised and the price of admission. I would stay at this hotel again but not during the above mentioned event.

Fantastic location! It is literally across the street from Galleria mall. It would probably take you 2 minutes to talk there.

The room was very spacious and the bed was super comfy. It felt like I was sleeping in a California King and not just a regular King. The bathroom looked like it was newly renovated and they had a huge flat screen TV in the room. I think it is an older hotel, so you could tell the carpet was pretty dingy and the decor was sort of outdated. But those were such small details I really didn't mind it.

Room service was the best part. I ordered the cheeseburger and chocolate cake and it was better than food that I've had at some restaurants. Absolutely delicious! 5 stars for the food.

Parking was really convenient. $17 a night and they do something to the room key card so you can use that to swipe yourself into the garage.

Love the beds!  Love the fluffy (IT'S SO FLUFFY~!~!~!) towels.

Some rooms can have a weird sound from the air vents which can get annoying if you have difficulty falling asleep.

At least on this trip, slept like a baby.

Checked in super late (~ midnight) and was upgraded to a 2-story suite on the top floor.  I have no clue why I would need 3-showers, 8-person dining table, 2-studies, and 3 TVs but if I ever wanted to try to pull off the Hang Over, Houston-style........Hrmm...................

Stayed here for a 5 year anniversary, we were upgraded, given parking, champagne, and chocolate strawberries. It was a wonderful experience and entirely unexpected/unnecessary. They appear to go out of their way to help. They have delicious flavored water in the lobby area, a starbucks, its right across from the galleria, the pool/fitness center/hot tub is amazing on the 5th floor. They even have 2 raquetball facilities. This is a spectacular hotel and although I do not often stay at hotels, if there is a JW around at an affordable price, you can bet I will take it!

If you're a fan of JW Marriott hotels, you'll probably find that this one is alarmingly close to perfection.

While it's true that the hotel's urban location isn't nearly as exotic as most JWs, this one excels in little touches on a grand scale. It's next door to The Galleria, Houston's behemoth shopping mall, and features surprising amenities like an indoor basketball court.

The hotel was originally built in the mid-'80s, but you would never know it, save for a few pieces of the interior. The door numbers, for example, are clearly the originals, and look strangely out of place since the rest of the building has been renovated. Little hints of that decade's excess, such as bathroom telephones that prompt thoughts which could lead you to wash your hands like a surgeon, have also survived and are sprinkled throughout the property.

Overall, the rooms are predictably superb, just as one would expect from this brand. The beds are very comfortable, flat screen TVs are present in every room (with connections for your laptop), and the fixtures are suitable for a high-end residence. Some rooms overlook the Westheimer strip, tempting you to spend time gazing down on the headlights and taillights of passing cars. Provided that The Galleria is closed, of course.

Like most high-rise hotels, parking is underground, and you're encouraged to valet. Elevators connect the parking garage to the lobby; from there, you must walk across to another set of elevators in order to access the guest room levels. Inconvenient? Maybe, but it does give the property a more secure feel.

Meanwhile, the hotel's staff is extremely professional. Having stayed here on many occasions, I can't recall ever running into a single hitch. Even the room service food, for once, is worth the premium.

Ridiculously good deals can be found here on weekends, especially if you're a member of the rewards program. Despite being off the beaten path and outside of downtown Houston, the experience provided by this hotel is definitely worth an extra bit of commute.

Modern, contemporary hotel, with lots of bright bold colors...

This hotel is located across the street from The Galleria Mall in Houston.  It is a nice short walk to the hotel and really if you get tired you can always grab a cab back to the hotel.

Government rates are available, so make sure to ask for these rates if you have an appropriate ID! The room was clean and well maintained, had a view of The Galleria, the bed was comfortable and had lots of pillows, had two comfortable robes, receptionist were very friendly and helpful.  Check out was a breeze, just called the operator told them we were checking out, and that was it.

Self-parking ($15 with in/out privilege) is available in the building or you can valet park ($27). Take note that there is an Upper Parking (UP) and Lower Parking (LP), we did not realize this, and went walking around the parking lot for our car.  Make sure to take note of where you are parked.  You can avoid walking around the lot, looking like lost souls! In the elevator take note that UP and LP designates the parking lot! Duh!

Highly recommended places to stay at a great rate!

Nice to look at and clean but: It is almost $369/night night plus tax, plus $17.99 a day parking, plus $13.99 a day for Wi-Fi, with no complimentary continental breakfast. You can request Continental breakfast 24 hours in advance for $13 plus tip for coffee, juice, pastries and fruit. The restaurant food is overpriced and horrible. I ate a 1/4 of a soggy, chewy, flavorless brisket sandwich, with literally 10 soggy/oil soaked French fries that were placed INSIDE the gross sandwhich, and a glass of watered-down ice tea for $22. I never add extra seasoning to food out because it's usually over salted for me but today I did. And, I always take all my leftovers home, but did not even bother this time because it was that bad. The bed is hard as a rock. They tried to put me in a double bed, but I said no and ended up with what they said was a king but looks like a queen to me.  It is hard as a rock and i tossed and turned all night. When I asked if there were other rooms with different beds I was told they were all the same. I'm not sure where all these reviews are coming from that say the beds are comfortable because I might as well be sleeping on the hard floor. The walls are thin and it's noisy. The toilet splashes violently when I flush it so I have to flush and run and clean the seat and floor between uses. I don't want to think about what's on the floor. On a positive note, the gym and pool are ok. The staff is pleasant, but when I complained about these things multiple times I was at no time offered a comp or discount, my bill was full price throughout. I was told that the appropriate manager would be notified. I have no way of knowing if this ever was done since I never got any kind of response. They did say they were sorry.  It is conveniently located at the mall, which is good if you are here to shop, which I was not. It is definitely not worth the money or what I would consider luxury. Yes, there was a chocolate on my pillow, big deal. It probably cost a dime. I am greatly disappointed, and sleep deprived during a very important business trip.

Best hotel in the Houston area. I have spent over 20+ nights in this JW and it is excellent.

First off, the location could not be better. You are right across the street from the Galleria, so if you get bored at night...just take a stroll across the street (not to mention, the Galleria has an Apple store--connect with your inner geek!).

Secondly, the gym is AWESOME and they have a racquetball court (seriously, do you know many hotels with a racquetball court?). They have sufficient cardio equipment, a wide range of free weights, smith machine, etc. They have an outdoor pool and hot tub on the same level as the gym (I want to say the 6th or 7th floor, so you can look out over Houston). They also provide towels soaked in ice water, which is is awesome when you are burning up after throwing down some miles on the treadmill.

The rooms are super plush, with comfortable beds, HDTV, LCD TVs, etc. This place has all the amenities. The only downside is having to pay for parking (parking garage underneath the hotel-however, valet is available for those safety conscious females traveling solo) and internet. Overall, an excellent hotel to satisfy your every need!

Beautiful hotel - staff were professional and friendly. The room was clean, comfortable, and spacious. Although I found the bathroom a little small compared to other similar hotels, I did like that the sink and vanity were separate from the shower/bath area. The hotel is located across the street from the Galleria Mall which was very convenient as the mall had great shopping and good restaurants as well as an indoor ice skating rink!  We had appetizers and cocktails at the Destino restaurant/bar at the Marriott. The tortilla soup with chicken, avacado, sour cream, and chunky tomatoes was tasty and the margherita pizza was delicious. The dirty martini was perfect. I certainly recommend the Mariott Hotel Houston.

We were in Houston with friends who were playing in a football tournament so we scored the tournament rate of $109/night but I saw that normally the JW Marriott goes for $289 during the week. But gotta be honest, for being Marriott's "highest end" division, I would expect a much nicer hotel. I've seen regular Marriott's that are much better.  And high end divisions like Conrad do a much better job than this particular JW Marriott.

The hotel is not bad. Lobby is nice but the elevators are a bit cut up between the parking garage and main elevators. Rooms are arranged differently with the bathroom being a bit more open than the standard setup. And the king size bed in our room faced the window.  Our bed was okay but seemed to have a slight downward angle. Not sure why. One thing I found weird was the door to the adjoining room had no doorknob. Just had a rough, exposed metal ring where the doorknob should have been. Small thing I know but I would think a hotel on this level wouldn't overlook even the smallest details. And the $12.95/day WiFi charge seems a bit high to me. Fitness center is actually very good. Probably one of the better ones I have seen. And with the hotel being right across from the gigantic Galleria mall so you've got tons of restaurants and other stuff to do.  Staff is good but I usually don't have a huge need for hotel staff.

It's not a bad hotel at all. It's just that I was expecting more. Hilton does a good job of establishing its Conrad division as the "premier" level.  This hotel did not differentiate enough from a regular Marriott.

This hotel is classy and clean and convenient.  The price per room here is HIGH but at the same time you get extraordinary service.  so you get what you pay for.

Spent our anniversary here and we had a good time.  if you're visiting from out of town this is a great location hotel as it's right across from the galleria mall.

we stayed in a junior suite and it was so nice. the bed was so comfy and room was so vast.

I was lucky enough to be a part of a wedding recently that held their wedding party here.  It just so happened that the day of their wedding the Buffalo Bills were checking into the hotel to play against the Texans.  We also just happened to plan the portraits at the exact same time that they were walking in the door.  The hotel staff here is TOP notch.  They even told us to continue shooting so long as we stayed in our section.  They had the players checked in almost instantaneous and we were back on our way.  It's one of the few hotels in Houston that is that lenient on their photography policy.

I stayed here with my bridesmaids and cousins the night before my wedding to treat ourselves and have a fun girls night. I thought that by staying at this hotel, it would be fun and very nice...I thought this was the nicest hotel in Sugar Land, TX. Boy was I wrong!

We had two rooms between 6 girls. Both rooms had visible mold on the ceilings and were very damp/humid. We cranked the air conditioning trying to help the mugginess of the rooms but it didn't help at all. One of my bridesmaids is pregnant, and she has an allergy to mold so she was having a hard time breathing the whole night! The next morning I was really upset about the mold, it was disgusting and not good for my pregnant best friend to be having trouble breathing the air. I complained to the front desk and first they told me they couldn't move us and didn't care at all, so I asked another employee at the front desk and he was more helpful. They moved us down the hall to another room...that didn't help because it was so close to the other room and was having the exact same issues. I'm not bridezilla and never was the whole wedding planning process, I'm not one to complain about pillows or anything stupid...but we could literally see mold on the walls and ceiling and the air was so muggy! Not just Houston humidity, there was a clear circulation problem they were trying to cover up by painting over the mold (seen in one of the rooms).

We wanted a luxurious special night before my wedding to have fun and relax, and sadly that is not what we got. Mold, rude customer service, and failure to mitigate a genuine problem.

Oh did I mention that housekeeping stole one of my girl's ipad? We've looked into it and there have been multiple reports of stolen items at this hotel.

Please don't stay at this hotel. I am so glad I didn't have my wedding guest hotel block here, having all the other guests there experiencing the same problems would have been even worse.

This was my first stay at a JW Marriott.  Gotta say, I was pretty impressed.

First, all of the staff that I encountered were friendly, chatty, and willing to assist.  I certainly appreciated the attitude -- Maybe it's a Texas thing?

The hotel itself is in a nice area (Galleria close by, and a slightly more upscale neighborhood), and the interior reflects its location.  The lobby is pleasantly appointed, with lots of comfy chairs and couches.  Adjacent to the lobby is the hotel bar, with sitting areas as well as some large booths with their own large-screen flat panel TVs.  This is a great place to relax and hang out, and my business colleagues and I took advantage of it.

My corner room with a king-sized bed was spacious and clean.  I liked the separate counter and sink space in the bathroom.  The bed was delightfully comfortable, which made for a great night's sleep.

The fitness center is impressive - one of the best I've encountered in a hotel.  It had a ton of weight-lifting machines, free weights and cardio machines, all in good shape.  Even chilled towels were available!

The hotel restaurant also had its charms.  We went there for breakfast; my omelet was perfectly cooked, and the coffee was decent.  The servers were also quite friendly, laughing along with us when we started talking about the movie, "Magic Mike."

I'd be happy to stay here again on future visits to Houston.

Loved our Thanksgiving stay here! Our corner room on the 16th floor was fantastic. Huge. Comfy bed. Great location across the street from the Galleria. Handy for some post-Thanksgiving, Black Friday shopping. Spent Thanksgiving watching the game at Destinos and had the most unbelievable deliciousness....a burger. This burger...was incredible. Blue cheesey, juicy, yummy!! Ate our burgers and drank our beer on a coach watching the game. Didn't have to cook or clean up. Watched a fireworks show right across the street from our room. Will do this again.

I know JW Marriott, I've stayed at JW Marriotts, and sir, this is no JW Marriott.

More of an upscale Courtyard or at best a run of the mill Marriott. Not luxury. Not upscale elegant. The Marriott brand is weak here in Houston and I can only attribute the vastly overrated reviews on Yelp to this simple fact. I am Marriott Platinum Elite and expect a lot, lot more from a JW then a tiny bathroom, cheap head boards, mass print pictures and dated wall paper and pressed wood furniture. You let me down this time JW.

This hotel is essentially a large, well-located Courtyard pretending to be a JW Marriott. The lobby is nicely decorated and appealing and the staff are exceptional. However once you get on the lift the hotel's age is apparent. The rooms while decent sized and comfortable could have been at a Courtyard if I hadn't known better so there is nothing five star about this hotel. Throw in in-room Wi-Fi charges AND no 24-hour room service and this all added up to a less-than-impressive stay. Not worth the money in my opinion.

I liked this place the service here was pretty good. We stayed with the NY Yankees so there was high security. I wished their concierge  lounge was open on weekends but I think that is more on Marriott's decision more than anything. This wasn't posted on the Marriott website but this hotel is under construction which starts at 8 am. There is loud hammering and water outages during the day. There was a tray sitting outside our room when we checked in and still there at 9p when we returned from dinner. The only pro is that it is across the street from the Galleria. I would not stay here again.

Let me begin by saying I'm a lifetime platinum member of Marriott, and stay at them all over the world.  This is the opposite of what I expected from a JW.  It feels more like a Courtyard.  The staff are incompetent.  The rooms very basic.  I was there for two weeks, and every time I tried to collect a package from the front desk it was an enormous debacle.  One might say a spectacular display of bafoonery.  I asked if I could have a cigar by the pool, and was told the only place smokers were allowed was a bench just outside the car park where I would be welcomed to inhale the exhaust of every exiting vehicle along with my Cohiba Behike 54.  Gee, pinch me is this heaven???  Is that grandpa over there playing chess with Benjamin Franklin?!  I thought he always said BF was a fat attention whore.  The only reason I give them an additional .5 stars(=1.5) is that the hot wings from room service were delicious.  Oh, and what JW lounge charges for drinks???  Is that why I spend 10's of thousands of dollars annually on you, and your affiliate the Ritz Carlton so I can pay exorbitant prices for drinks in the lounge?!  You failed miserably at this location Marriott.  I thought the one in Glasgow was a joke.  At least there the drinks were complimentary.  To date the best JW is the one in Bucharest, Romania, and the two best affiliate hotels are the Ritz Carlton in Vienna, and the Boscolo in Rome in the Piazza della Repubblica.  Despite the fact that the most beautiful hotel in the world is The Boscolo in Budapest, Hungary.  Regardless!  When I pay 400/night I'm not asking too much to expect a little luxury.  There are far better hotels in Houston.  The Icon for example.

Not impressed with what is supposedly a 4 star establishment.  The hotel looks old and dated.  The parking lot spaces are small and the elevator takes a while to get to you.  Booked a king room and was given a 2 double bed room instead.  Room next to elevator shaft and we constantly heard the old elevator chugging along constantly. On querying, we were told that the hotel was overcommitted and preference is given to gold and platinum members.  This was our first stay at the Marriott and this response will not win over prospective gold and platinum members.  The parking was also not loaded onto the room card which added to the frustration.  Overall, disappointed with hotel and staff level of training and competantcy.

JW Marriott is the high end of the high end in Marriott. It certainly has some nice touches, overall is very clean, and pleasant. There are some minor things to take into consideration as opposed to the nearby Omni in Uptown, the aloft on Westheimer, the Derek off 610, the Zaza in the Museum District, and what I consider to be the best hotel in Texas in the Alden downtown, there are some minor nuances that turn just a nice expensive place into something that you would proclaim as the best hotel in Texas.

There are two kinds of valet guys. The rude ones, and the nice ones. The ratio should be such that I never get a rude one, I always get a nice one. That ratio was off on both the (a) getting out of my car and (b) getting back into my car at the close of the evening. Just like the Harry Potter book covers where only the first book, The Philosopher's Stone, and the final book, The Deathly Hallows, had curtains on the covers, to signify the opening and closing like a play, just as much as the final battle takes place in 1998 when the first book was published. Therefore one could say about this review that just like the Golden Snitch: I open at the close.

The spaces are all nice inside. It seems almost like a tropical kind of atmosphere and sometimes the Houston heat just confirms it that the air conditioning is so nice inside. The bar area is a bit small for such a large hotel and one across the street from the Galleria, since it is a kind of high-traffic area for drinkin', however at worst you could say it was far too cozy.

Not the best, not the worst.

Honeydew pear agua fresca in the front lobby along with citrus water for guests. Yummy! Ok, not a factor in choosing a hotel but hey, it's something I've never seen at the other jw marriott I've stayed at. Nice touch. Overall no complaints. Good experience. The only weird thing was the bathroom. Didn't quite seem as nice and up to par as hotels in the same class but that's minor. It wasn't dirty so that's always a plus in my book.

At best, this place qualifies to be a Fairfield Inn.  This is no way near to JW standards.  Leaked window while it rained, huge vacuum cleaner left unattended for hours in the middle of the hallway and flies in the restaurant. If it wasn't for nice Beds, I would not have given a single star.

Stayed at this hotel on nights of Sept 23 & 24, 2014. Please avoid this property!! It's currently undergoing renovation & should not be excepting guests.

Noise levels between 8am and 8 pm each night were beyond tolerance. I could not get high enough volume on my TV to hear over it!

The elevators are not functioning such that "average" wait time for a lift is over 10 minutes.

The Internet was not functioning at any time during my stay.

I could go on, but any experienced traveler get's the point.

My fiance and I were in town for a visit to MD Anderson to get my annual scans. When we checked into the Marriott, I was still a little nervous because we had been visiting doctors all day. We were greeted by Andy who mentioned that he had a little experience with what I was going through because he used to work at the Marriott connected to the medical complex. He was kind and funny and compassionate and I was laughing halfway through the check-in process. I mentioned that my fiance and I were trying to turn our stay into a date-night. Andy double-checked that we had a king-sized bed, offered us a complementary upgrade to VIP-status for one night, and made sure that we were set up to turn what could've been a stressful trip into a romantic few nights! He didn't have to take those extra steps to make us feel special, but he did and it was wonderful! Thanks to Andy and to JW Marriott!

The location is great and staff is very friendly.  Rooms need serious remodeling, however. In the humid Houston air, you need to have a great air system and it felt like a moist rain forest  during my stay.  The carpet even felt damp, and that's not to mention the bizarre, random stains throughout. (I'd rather not know.)

Parking
The daily parking rate @ $17 for self-parking is crazy high.  I get it's near the Galleria, but really? And even at that, you don't necessarily get a space in the building/underground garage.  When it's full, you have you park in the open lot on the other side of the street, so it's not even connected to the hotel. Save us on hot days (when isn't it in Houston) or rainy days, so be prepared.

Oh and heads up that you cannot get alcohol serviced via room service past midnight. This is apparently by law, and of course not the fault of the hotel by any means. However, it'd be nice to plant that seed with us non-Texans upon check in so we can plan in advance before finding out the hard way.

Bottom line:  Not a bad choice, but not one of the nicer JW Ms; and the Hotel Derek down the street is equally as convenient in location and a way better value for your money.

Have stayed at the JW Marriott Houston around 10 times over the last two years. Will stay there next time in Houston as well.

The main reason for this is that this is an unusually friendly hotel. The staff are so nice - you are family is their motto.

Came here for my niece's graduation in June 2012.
We used valet to check in.
The bellhop was helpful in unloading the luggage.
The front check-in was nice and helpful.
The room had a sofa bed and king size bed.
We had a view of the Galleria.
The room was clean and welcoming.
The city felt safe for staying here in Houston.
We didn't stay long enough to enjoy the hotel amenities.
The price to stay was about $250 a night, but that is what you pay for a place to stay when you want the safety of the car that you are using for a road trip.

We had a few issues when checking in, but I'm grateful for Nikola, Joseph, Sybil, and Shay who have worked hard to correct the issues I had and made me feel like I am in a Luxury 5 star hotel.

I have stayed in other JW Marriott properties. My room was great as usual. The staff was great. On the Hotel side, everything was what I would expect. I was there for an event which was held in Ballroom A.

Going to the second floor where the meeting rooms are located was like going from the JW to an old Holiday Inn. Our meeting area smelled musty and moldy, even after the air was on all night. Just seemed really outdated and low caliber. There was an emergency exit door which let to a stairwell that was strewn with trash and cigarette butts and one dead mouse. One would think that every square foot of public access would be clean and up to the JW standards.

The mens room in the conference area was another issue for me. I don't know if it was a lack of exit ventilation or what, but the dense stink was as if this was a restroom at a football stadium at the end of a hot game day. You could smell the mens room walking past it.

I WOULD stay in the hotel again but I would never host a conference there.

The staff was very nice the entire time which was great and the hotel is gorgeous. That is where the positive things end. We were here for 3 days and I am just going to list the issues we had. They gave us a room with 2 fulls instead of a king. Our keys did not work 3 separate times during our stay. They started construction which was being completed directly above our room at 8:00am after we were assured it wouldn't start until 10:00am. We ordered room service that never came. The staff is nice but incompetent and this hotel is all flash and absolutely no substance.  Don't stay here I know there are plenty of good reviews but hotels should not have any bad reviews ever.

This post is about the food. Two words. It sucks. A total pass. The over cooked halibut is a joke. I looked up others places nearby. Ok so many other choices. Sure I'm on biz but still. It sucks. Ambiance is good but biz sterile.  For 28us you get a piece of halibut in a bowl with hot soy sauce. What a f'ng joke!  Oh yes just had the worst IPA draft brew ever.  I'm done. The espresso machine looks good but no more being foolish!

Stayed here for a conference for work, which was also located in the hotel. One of the best hotels I've stayed in.

Top notch service and welcome - we checked in late and were sped through.
Great great GREAT location (walking distance to starbucks, galleria, other shops and plenty of restaurants nearby).
Starbucks also located inside the hotel, but closes at 11 am =(
The hotel left out plenty of water, coffee and pens/papers for our lectures and I was impressed with the speed of service and refills.
Clean and beautiful meeting rooms and hotel rooms.
Beautiful gym - you have a view of Westheimer and it is very spacious. The pool is small but has an inside and outside deck. Lots of chairs by the pool. Friendly gym attendant.
Maids were great and cleaned our rooms quickly and efficiently.
Underground parking garage ($24/day), swipe your room key to go in and out. Valet as well.
Free Wi-Fi in rooms, and our conference had our own Wi-Fi set up so I cannot attest to Wi-Fi speeds.
Lobby bar and restaurant with a very friendly and happy bartender where you can get your food to-go as well. Second floor restaurant (didn't try this one).

I would highly recommend holding your event here or staying here when you come to Houston.

Yes the hotel is great if you have no life but to be in this hotel...it is very comfy and clean. It is directly across from the galleria and has lots of amenities; but, EVERYTHING at this hotel is ridiculously overpriced...First of all, the room cost $359 a night. It costs $16 a night to self park in their parking garage. It cost $10 a night for wifi. Breakfast is $21 for 2 eggs, 2 bacon, and 2 slices  of toast. If you are on business and can claim every nickel and dime...this is for you..
If you are in Houston for vacation and don't want to be 10 and 20 dollared to death...stay away....PS..I have money and I would like to keep a little.

This is an older JW Marriott like mentioned in several reviews already. However, does being old mean that it can't be a good, or even great hotel?

My very first experience at this Marriott was a couple of years ago when I wanted to celebrate an anniversary or something with someone who's now my ex (what a waste). I actually used my Marriott points for this particular occasion. However, I didn't mention it in the reservation. When I checked in, the front desk attendant thanked me for being a Marriott member (they always do at every Marriott/affiliates everywhere) and asked me if I was celebrating anything since my ID says that I live in Houston. I told her and she checked me in.

I came up to my room and whoa! I just got upgraded, yo! She didn't give me just the regular guest room, but she gave me the executive suite. Sweet! Yes, it was a sweet Suite. I remember that being a very pleasant stay.

The second time I stayed here, a friend of mine was actually visiting from out of town on business and she was staying there. She pretty much let me stay there on the weekend while she went up to Dallas to visit her friend. Unfortunately, she stayed in a regular guest room (which was decent sized but most Courtyard is bigger, I think).
The beds are comfy. However, just like any other higher class Marriott chains, You have to pay for things you really have to use. You have to pay to use the internet and park. These are about the only downside of staying at a JW Marriott, or a Marriott, or a Renaissance. You get the gist.

I'd still recommend this place because it's right across from the Galleria mall. Be aware though, in the morning during work rush, traffic in the Galleria area is horrendous!!!

Checked in and told I had a great room. Surprised to see I was smack in the middle of the elevators in room 1721. After a sleepless night listening to the elevators I moved to different room on the 10th floor. The front desk mentioned this room also had      some elevator noise and was recently renovated. Well another night of elevator noise. Sleepless in Houston and not liking it.

Conveniently located across the street from the galleria, this hotel is a must if you're looking for something in the area. Free parking is behind the pharmacy next door, this is where the hotel employees park, not a bad walk to main entrance, even carrying luggage. Great customer service, all of the employees greeted you and were very courteous. Newly renovated rooms were very clean and simple, nothing too fancy. We had a corner room which had a lot more space.

Unreal experience by the staff!!! I have never had better service ANYWHERE! The hotel is a little old but is under construction. I WILL indeed stay here again. From the sales team (Angela), event planner  (Erica) front desks staff (Landon) to housekeeping. A host others that I can't remember.

If you a great place to stay, please stay here and can't wait for the upgrade to be completed. Was in town for football game (Alcorn State) and really enjoyed it as well.

Nothing I can think about that I didn't like. I was with a group and their comments were: the hotel is old but glad they are working on it but the service is great.  Thanks everyone!!!!!

I've never stayed at a JW Marriott before this one, and I wish that I would've sooner.

I travel much more than your average person, and I like to stay in certain establishments because I know that they carry a familiar feel and setup, a familiar flavor of food, and you know what to expect out of their complimentary toiletries. Consistency is the key.

However I keep reminding myself that there are things to be missed by not keeping your options open. MIND = BLOWN.

Excellently comfortable beds, soaps and shampoos that work well, smell good, and don't leave your body feeling like you've washed up with hotel products.

I traveled here for a birthday stay. I mentioned it to the staff, and what a wonderful, overly accommodating response! Seriously, over the top. A birthday card under the door, candles on complimentary dessert with candles in it at the breakfast table, and a special evening delivery of chocolate covered strawberries. I only mentioned it to the front desk attendant while passing by, making chit chat on the way downstairs for coffee.

Definitely over the top of all of my expectations, and much MUCH less expensive than the bargain hunter inside of my assumed that a chain of this quality would cost. It's not unreasonably priced compared to it's competitors, and this particular location is very conveniently located within walking and close cabbing distance to anything that I needed in Houston.

What a great place to stay. I will be checking out more JW's in other locations. I would honestly recommend giving it a shot yourself.

Stayed there on 21 December 14 ... Great hotel, with outstanding service. The staff helped us find a great place for a late meal as well as driving us there and back. Staff could not have been more helpful or courteous.
