We traveled from Dallas to a convention in Houston and decided to stay here. The Marriott Chain is usually MUCH better than this. Our room a a strong dog pee smell near the door, which is a lovely way to be greeted after walking a convention all day! The room was spacious and the staff very friendly, and the breakfast was included and quite yummy. Unfortunately the matresses were about 6" thick and we would have slept better at a Motel 6. Sad for a hotel that got a 9 for cleanliness on other review sites.

I spent a few nights at the Residence Inn and was very impressed with everything.  The staff was very friendly and made sure that we had everything we needed.  They have a free breakfast which is pretty standard but tasted good and most evenings (at least on weeknights) they had free food and events in the lobby area.  The rooms were spacious and clean with cooking facilities which would have been convenient if we had not wanted to venture out of the hotel.

Across the road is a good Mexican place and there is also free shuttle service around the local area (we went down to Rice village a few times).

Overall we had a great experience staying there and would highly recommend it.

I previously stayed here 5 years ago and at that time would have only given the place 3 stars maybe.  I am finishing up a two day & night stay 4/14/12-4/15/12 and give them 5++++ stars for everything!!!  what a remarkable change for the good, they have accomplished with the remodeling & fabulous change in staff attitude!!  My room was cozy, and decorated with relaxing colors & decor.  I made a comment to the manager that the toilet seat was loose.  Within a half hour it was replaced with a new one!  only thing I had an issue with was the Internet hotspots were lacking in reception, but one must remember that hot spots are a new addition.  I will stay again on any return trip to Houston as their rates are very reasonable made possible by the fantastic surface

Worst experience I've had in a hotel in a long time. This hotel is more like a motel.
First, when we checked in, they said they gave our reservation away and no longer had any 2 bedroom suites left. Frustrated, they eventually gave us 2 rooms next to each other but it still meant my underage son had to be by himself and away from me. Did not rest easy with a loving mother.
Immediately walking into our room it smelled musty and gross and the smell did not go away the whole stay.
Only one of our room keys worked the entire stay. We kept asking the front desk for a new key but each new key did not work either! 3 times! Ridiculous!
The bedding consisted of a sheet and a textured sheet on top that I guess was the "comforter" but was thin so naturally I froze to death in January. I called the front desk for a blanket and they said "sorry we just gave our last blankets away to the other guests".
The next morning, I woke up to a maid leaning over me in bed saying "housekeeping!" and scaring me awake.
Then the bathroom light broke and I showered in the dark.
This hotel also offers a shuttle but DO NOT rely on it. We had out of town wedding guests depending on a ride to the wedding ceremony and reception (which Marriot promised would accommodate) and it never happened. The shuttle is too much of a pain and not reliable for daily use.
To be fair, when I spoke to the general manager, he offered to comp one of our nights for our trouble. That was greatly appreciated. Still, I feel others should know the truth.

I cannot give this hotel enough stars!  From the setting up reservations with the Sales Manager to the Front Desk staff they made for a wonderfully enjoyable stay.  The rooms were very comfortable and clean which made for a relaxing time after long work days.  Breakfast was tasty eery morning.  I keep wanting to praise the Front Desk staff at all hours of the day and night.  They were hospitable and understanding throughout our stay!   When in Houston again, this is the 1st choice for hotels for me.

I recently spent a couple of comfortable nights here. I had a work-related class in Bellaire and if you don't count the Courtyard up front, this was the closest "Room at the Inn". This was especially important as there was some huge conference in town, and Hotel rooms were very hard to come by. I initially thought it might be Rodeo-related, but I was about a week early on that event.

It was a bit of a walk and climb (including a mandatory card swipe) from the Front Desk to my Room, but once I was there I settled in nicely with free Internet, the flat screen TV within a direct line of sight, and snacks (Spanish cheese and wine, plus bread) purchased from Central Market. The bed was comfortable and considering my trouble sleeping away from home (and Gayle), I did well.

Down at the Lobby, Marriott staff were very friendly and helpful. The Breakfast and Happy Hour food offerings were also generous and tasty. I have certainly stayed in more luxurious places, but for the comfort and safety I wanted during this short business trip, my expectations were more than met.

Friendly staff. My room smells like it used to be a smokers room. The social hour is cool. The shuttle is deceiving, they say it runs from 7am-9pm, they really run it on the hour. They should of disclosed that in the beginning. It's not walking distance from anywhere.

Start to my visit to the Residence Inn West University: I arrived and was told that they had no room for me! I informed that of my reservation number and that I had made that reservation a month before. I was stunned, and since I knew hotels in Houston seemed to always be full taken aback by this predicament. Well at this point (once disbelief wore off) the assistance manger came over and said could I give him a few seconds he would attempt to remedy the problem. The assistance manger found a room at a nearby hotel (competitor) and offered to pay for the room.  I was tired from traveling, and at this point had no choice. The assistance manager then went on to stay that due to the location many guest are there staying with family members who are receiving treatment at the medical center, and they will extend their stay when unexpected medical issues arise. I understood and spent my first night in Houston at a nicer hotel that I originally booked.
After that I spent a few nights at the Residence Inn and was very impressed with everything.  The staff was very friendly and made sure that I had everything I needed. They kept apologizing for the misstep of the previous day.  They have a free breakfast which is pretty standard but tasted good and in the evenings they had free food and events in the lobby area.  The rooms were spacious and clean with cooking facilities which would have been convenient if we had not wanted to venture out of the hotel The Breakfast and Happy Hour food offerings were also generous and tasty. I have certainly stayed in more luxurious places, but for the comfort and safety I wanted during this short business trip, my expectations were more than met.
the neat thing was that  never stayed at a extended stay hotel, I just picked this one due to the location. I never used the kitchen facilities, but may have to consider that in future vista.
The staff was once again excellent. The General manger of that location came in to the dining area and introduced himself to everyone, offered his business card, and even refilled beverages. So from what started off as a disaster turned into a decent business trip; thanks to a staff that gave a darn about putting the customer first.

The staff is super friendly and hospitable.

Rooms are clean and well made, comparable to other Residence Inns and Marriott Courtyards. Mattress are comfortable. Rooms come equipped with a full kitchen and dining area. Suites come with 2 TVS while the guest rooms have 1 TV (but it swivels so you can see it from the living room or bed).

-The complimentary breakfast is decent :).
-It is located close to lots of restaurants and an HEB so you can stock the fridge. Fridge comes with ice maker.
-I've heard that this location provides complimentary shuttle to places include MD Anderson for patients.

I was very happy with my stay here.

They offer a breakfast and happy hour with food which is great.

The location seems close to everything and the hotel shuttle was very convenient for me. The evening driver was very nice and helpful.

The price is a little high though, my room was $200 per night which I was kind of surprised about.

    Overall, nice hotel but pricey.

Perfectly fine.  Room had a strong disinfectant smell when I first entered but that would at least imply that it was recently cleaned.  Bathroom (what do you call it?  Loo?  Wash Closet?  Toilet?  John?) is updated and water pressure it adequate.  Large seating area, full kitchen with full size fridge.

Staff is super nice, very friendly, and accommodating.  Breakfast is fine for sustenance but not a "spread" by any means.

Overall, good bang for your buck.

Exceptionally friendly and hospitable hotel. Normally I don't notice this stuff nor do I give it too much credit because I like to be left alone.  But they put a smile on my face and made me cheerful.  Picked up a bottled  water and told me it was on the house.  Greeted me by name when I returned my first day.  Complimentary dinner of fajitas and wine were very decent in a world that no longer offers bad free food on planes or free luggage check in.  Hotel managers on both morning and evening shift were sociable, positive and talking to guests.  They deserve a 5 for the customer service, in addition to the economical price of the residence Inn and the complimentary food and services (free wifi) that the hotel provides.  Very happy business traveler and would stay here again.
