My husband and I had the privilege of staying at Viola Street Inn this past weekend. I've stayed at a few B&B's but none have compared to this! This is hands down the best weekend getaway we have ever experienced! The home is gorgeous and has been restored beautifully! The rooms are decorated very nicely and the amenities were beyond my expectations. There are many areas that are perfect to enjoy the outdoors with a front porch (complete with porch swing); a beautiful courtyard outside the kitchen with a nice goldfish pond; the hot tub out back has a sound system and there are chaise lounges at the rear of the yard.
When we arrived, we were met at the front door by Kerry, the Inn's owner. She showed us to our room, Victorian Secret. We were welcomed to our room with music, fresh flowers and fruit as well as a nice bottle of wine. Kerry even iced down Shiner Bock, which is my husband's favorite. After we settled in, we were given a tour of the home and ventured out back and relaxed while watching the deer in the green space out back. Kerry explained that her Inn Keeper was off for the weekend and was very apologetic that she would not be able to provide a full breakfast during our stay, but would be providing a continental breakfast, which was not a problem for us.
It began raining and we decided to relax a bit before going to dinner and a concert at Cheatam Street Warehouse. We when came downstairs for dinner, Kerry met us with fresh baked cookies and menus for a few local restaurants, as well as suggestions. She took it upon herself to call several restaurants to learn the current wait time to obtain a table. Dinner complete, concert enjoyed, return to the Inn.
The bed was extremely comfortable. The bathroom amenities were better than expected. After a day of exploring the Hill Country with my husband, we were able to relax in the hot tub with some music and a bottle of wine. Saturday morning we were able to enjoy coffee, fresh fruit and fresh baked blueberry muffins and Sunday was apple crumb muffins and yogurt parfaits.
My husband had never stayed at a B&B prior to this and has raved about this stay! I stated this before and will say it again, this was without a doubt the best experience I've ever had! We had the option of staying at many hotels for more money and I'm glad we decided to take a chance. Kerry went above and beyond to make sure our stay was memorable. We are already planning more trips to Viola Street Inn with friends.

This was my first stay at a B&B and I was blown away by the entire experience! We were treated like guests in Carries home!
We stayed in the gypsy spirit room, it had a huge comfy bed. And huge bathroom with a claw foot tub, separate shower and two separate vanities. Luxurious towels and robes were available. There was a bath salt selection, shampoo, soap etc...
You have a mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker, ice and water in the room as well.
Sunday Carrie cooked an amazing breakfast for us, with coffee, juice, eggs, biscuits, bacon, cheesy hashbrowns, and a yogurt parfait! All served on gorgeous table settings.
We took advantage if the hottub and little fire outside with a fish pond to relax us for the evening. The large covered ffront porch was perfect for my morning coffee.
Carrie and friends have put a lot of love and hard work in to this place and it shows because it made our anniversary weekend extra special! The house is so beautiful and everyone was so nice, I really can't wait to go bcl again!
If your staying any where near San macros this is the place to stay, it's not just a place to lay your head at night, it's an experience with new friends! I have never written a review before but they moved me so much I wanted to tell everyone!

Beautiful large home and not a bit "creepy". The drive to the inn and the front of the drive looks a bit unkept until you enter. The front of the home is actually rear of the gardens. Do not let the "google" street photos deceive you :)
The Innkeepers were fabulous. Checked in late (traffic) but the owner stuck around to greet us. We had to leave very early which was not a problem. Breakfast was ready in the refrigerator and was very good.
Plenty of places to curl up and read a good book. There were brochures for reading and a pantry stocked full of food. The refrigerator beeped at me because I had left it open too long :) Every inch was tastefully decorated and very clean. I even noticed that the air vents were super clean! The Wisteria room was brightly decorated and fun for my 11yo daughter. No stone was left unturned. There was a safe, fresh water, microwave, refrigerator, and coffee maker in our room. Was very cool in the room at night and I did not wake up with a stuffy nose. It had beautiful views of the garden. I wish the television was a bit larger though. The gardens are a story of their own. I can see every sweat and tear put into the patios. The gladiolas were my favorite!
Relaxing and fun! Will be back next year!

Ditto! to the two previous reviews. We have stayed at the Inn once before, and it was very nice and memorable. So much, we are returning again. The Innkeeper is so accomodating. Our two sons attend TSU and we are on occassion having to come to San Marcos for visits. We could stay in a Hotel, but they are pricey and nothing like staying at the Viola Street Inn. I have always had problems finding places to stay and Viola Street Inn has always gone out of there way to make it happen. Could not ask for better "Customer Service". Love this place! I will keep returning!

My wife and I found this absolute gem by happy accident - we had gotten stranded in San Marcos late due to weather and needed to find a place to stay late on a Saturday evening. We wanted to avoid staying next to I-35 in a motel (the noise is horrible) so we did a web search for hotels in the interior of San Marcos and found Viola Street Inn.
We were amazed at how lovely and warm the Inn looked and felt, it was truly an oasis of luxury and comfort in the (literal) storm of the evening. The room we stayed (the Gypsy Spirit) room was spacious and gorgeous, the bed was very very comfortable and well appreciated from a long day of moving. The only minor hitch was the heater unit (integrated to look like a wood-burning fireplace, even though it is electric) didn't put out quite as much heat as we would have liked, but the warm covers on the bed made up for that.
The grounds are like a garden, and so pretty to see, we spent some time the next morning touring around. The amenities were very nice and the price was very very low for the quality and ambiance. This is definitely our "go-to" stay in San Marcos now, and we really felt well cared for by the owners, who not only accommodated us on very short notice but made sure we were very comfortable for our short stay. We highly recommend the Inn for anyone that wants to enjoy a peaceful, opulent stay away from the mainstream of chain hotels. It was a very enjoyable retreat!

Oh, Viola Street Inn, I have nothing but good things to say about you...
I stayed in the Victorian Suite which was previously the inn owner's master bedroom. My room was large with enough space, jacuzzi tub and shower, lounge chairs and so on to camp out in there if I liked. The beautiful thing about staying at the Viola Street Inn is the manager, Carrie had encouraged me (consistently) to spread out in the house and make myself at home. There is plenty of space to do this and even a public hot tub in the backyard/courtyard for all.
As far as prices, it about equals out to the same rate as the Hampton Inn minus the points. The accommodations, breakfast and even the common areas at this fairly good sized inn far surpass anything the Hampton Inn has to offer (and as far as I'm concerned, the Crystal River Inn as well).
It's quiet, clean (even for having some antique Victorian style furnishings and style). The beds are heavenly and the air conditioning, heating, fans and overall general air flow of the place is perfect (I've had some stays at places where it's not!)
This big house is about a mile from downtown (where my teacher training happens to be). It's within close proximity to businesses, but tucked away far enough in the neighborhood to make for a serene environment.
Although I've been leaving before breakfast is served everyday (9am), I have had the privilege of indulging in their homemade cookies, breads, muffins and even streusel. Before I arrived, I was even asked what my preferences for breakfast were and they have been doing their best to accommodate me in every way (and they have!). There is a Keurig coffee/tea and lemonade machine at our dispose night and day. I love it!
Staying at this inn has been such a treat! I feel at home, welcome and super comfortable.
Would I return?
