    If you happen to be skiing at Deer Valley on nice sunny day and the sun has started to go down on the Beach, head over to the small bar at the Goldener Hirsch for a little Apres. Be sure to grab a tall Stiegl and a little food. If you stay for dinner, be sure to check out the Elk or Pheasant.

    We wandered to Silverlake Village in Deer Valle and found the Golderner Hirsch. We read tthat it has a superb conetinental and American cuisine in an elegant Austrian setting. We settled in for the apres ski menu which was superb, French Onion soup, Goldener Hirsch charcuterie with apline meats, artisen meats with a side of salad and bread basket and for dessert, we had the hand pulled apple strudel with vanilla! It was sooooooooo good. Everything was so tasty and fresh. The staff were extremely friendly, constantly checking back on us but not super imposing and just a great environment to chill out after a hard day of skiing.

    After reading the 2-star review for the Hirsch I have to say, HUH????  Who goes to an Austrian-inspired mountain restaurant and orders fish?  For anyone that has skied in Europe and loves their hearty dishes like schnitzel & fondue, combined with the carved wood interiors and traditional mountain attire, the Hirsch will hit the spot.  The restaurant is warm and cozy, the food is delicious, and the wine list is very good.  Service is attentive, with a hint of Austrian edge (even more authentic), and if you really want to, you can try your hand at the giant alpenhorn after dinner.  I suggest having a few digestifs beforehand, just to wet the whistle!!

    Like many others we got a KSL deal for a two night stay with a dinner one of the nights. I think this is way they fill up semi-filled rooms in the off-season. No problem with that, but they should commit to treating even us deal-getters very, very well to justify their awards and status. The hotel staff was great throughout our stay. The room, meal and management, however, were all diffferent stories. The room was beautiful, to be sure and very spacious. However, the shower stall had quite a bit of mold on the ceilings and upper walls. There was a ton of hair on the countertop, which is granite and has a pattern so couldn't be seen by maid staff, but should have been thoroughly wiped down between guests anyway, right? The mattress had a worn out feeling to it, though I'm not sure how old it was. It was so uncomfortable the first night that I turned in a quarter turn the next day to give us support from an area of the mattress normally not squished over time as this one was. Of course I had to undue and remake it all but it helped. Our meal was a mix of good and mediocre. The presentation of all was wonderful. The fondue, great. We ordered the beef and a lamb dish. Both were ordered medium rare. Both were greatly undercooked, which affected flavor. The apple strudel was relatively flavorless (considering the source), with very little pastry and undercooked apples. It had a "scoop" of ice cream the size of a golfball. It was embarrassingly silly. We brought back at least half our dinner to enjoy later that night and the next day. Unfortunately, we didn't get to it that night and the next day after a wonderful breakfast at the hotel, we discovered that the in-room refigerator froze (not like in the freezer froze, but like in a bad refrigerator froze...beyond use after that)everything we put in it, including other food we'd bought to nosh on throughout. So that was a pretty big waste,. The worst part was dealing with the manager, Kelley, who was so cordial when things were going well but not so great when the complains came.  I told him of the mold, hairs, and ruined food but complimented the place on what I could.He put my issues on the back burner over and over until my repeated emails moved him to address me which he did politely. He ended up appologizing for the mold, bad refigerator, etc. and asking if he could reimburse me for the lost food. He ended up sending a check for $25.0! So the food we bought outside the hotel PLUS the food we got from the hotel resturant was only worht $25? NO, not at all. But that was his resolution to our problems. So they pump up the cost to us but minimize the responsibility to themselves. Not truly customer oriented Kelley. Not at all. Don't make keals to sell two night packages if you can't bring yourself to respect the riff raff who'll use them.

    I'll admit, I'm not totally sure what I was expecting (note, this review is just for the restaurant) but I was so terribly disappointed in this place. We were in town for some housing stuff in addition to the Freestyle International competition and came here for dinner. The outside is quite charming though I admit I kind of did a double take at the hearts that were in the woodwork. Once we got inside, the decor was old and I suppose that is someone's idea of part of the charm. Think old people Bed & Breakfast and that is the decor here. The wait staff's uniforms included.

    The food was the biggest disappointment. I can overlook decor and whatnot so long as the food is out of this world but I just wasn't impressed by this. The fondue was okay but I have had much better else where.  I ordered the "fresh" fish of the day and it just didn't taste fresh. At all. It had a very "fishy" taste that ruined the sauce that actually was quite tasty. The vegetables were extremely over cooked, some of the completely wilted. The only thing I actually managed to finish on the plate was the rice.

    The dessert was nothing memorable either. A bunch of miniature cookies and custards. Granted, I am not really a fan of sweets so I could take or leave anything so I won't take away or add stars for this.

    All in all, after all the hype it had recieved from family and many other people we'd talked to, it just didn't live up. The prices aren't super high (at least not compared to SF restaurants) however for what it is, it is expensive. I can't say I'll recommend it. The location is beautiful and I'd definitely recommend coming up to look around but as it is, I say skip the restaurant. I doubt I'll be back.

    Had dinner at Goldener Hirsch in June. I ordered the elk flank, which was outstanding.  My DH ordered the Weiner Schnitzel which was OK.  The service was impeccable. The restaurant is quiet. We were seat in front of the fireplace on a cool June evening. Perfect site for romantic dinner in this restaurant which  has Swiss/Austrian theme.

    Recently stayed at this very lovely, intimate hotel. We were there to celebrate my birthday as we did last year for my birthday. We were treated like royalty.  General Manager, Kelley Davidson, and Beverage/Dining Manager, Billy Williams, were both so gracious and hospitable making us feel special.  This time of year in Deer Valley and Park City is amazing. Top this off with the ambience of Goldener Hirsch and the attention by ALL the staff...you know where I will be for my birthday next year.  I do not give compliments easily...but this hotel deserves accolades.

    We ate there last week and were blown away. Food was impeccably prepared and the service was first rate. Felt like I was in the Palace at St. Moritz or the Mt Cervin in Zermat. Would highly recommend- better than Glitrtind at Stein Ericksen's.

    My husband and I purchased a "deal" that included a 2 night stay, buffet breakfast each morning and a dinner for one night.  When I made the initial reservation it was just for my husband and me but our daughter was in a local soccer tournament that weekend and happened to make it into the semifinals.  We decided to bring her with us to Goldener for one night because she had an early morning game in Park City.  We checked in at 9:30 pm.  We were told that we had to pay an ADDITIONAL $75 for our 9 year old child to stay in our room!  We told Kelly, the manager,  that that was ridiculous to charge $75 for a child to stay in their parents room.  We also told him that we wouldn't even be there in the morning to have the buffet breakfast that was included because we needed to leave by 7 am to make it our daughters game.  He asked if she needed additional bedding and when we said no, he thought about it and said it would still be an additional $75!  Why even ask then?!   Instead of working with us he stated "rules are rules!"

    My husband and I decided that if we were going to be charged then we mine as well get extra bedding.  Kelly bought up a roll away that looked like it came straight from the Salvation Army!  My daughter and I shared the bed (we wanted her to be well rested for her early morning game)and my poor husband was left with the roll away.  He woke up with a headache and a sore neck.   It was also uncomfortably warm in the room with no air conditioning.  We did open the windows in the middle of the night to cool things down but then were woken up by loud employees outside our window taking out trash early in the morning.

    My husband and I returned after the soccer tournament for our 7:30 dinner reservation.  We had the fondue appetizer, Elk flank, and Wagyu rib eye.  The fondue was very tasty as was the Wagyu rib eye which was generously portioned at 8-10 oz.  The elk flank was mediocre at best and the portion size was literally 3-4 ounces of meat. I had to share my rib eye with my husband. For dessert we had the apple strudel and bread pudding.  Both were just OK.  We ordered 2 cocktails and 5 glasses of wine that were suited to each course.  The server did a good job with helping us with wine pairings.  The prices were reasonable for a Deer Valley area lodge.

    We checked out at 10am the next morning and asked where the Sunday breakfast buffet was located.  We were told it ended it 9:30am.  Really?!  Who shuts down a breakfast buffet at 9:30am on a Sunday morning?  So not only did we get charged $75 extra for our child for one night but we never received the buffet that was included in our package!  

    All in all, the dinner was decent but it was not enough to make up for the $75 extra charge for our child and the lack of communication about the time for the breakfast.  We agree that there should be rules but there should also be exceptions and a little flexibility (like children staying with parents) Yes, they did get the extra $75 but we will never return and  will cross Goldener Hirsch off of our stay-cation locations.  We will also never recommend it to local friends or out of towners alike.  We will continue to frequent spots like Stein Eriksen Lodge and St Regis, where they value their customers.

    We stayed at the Goldener on a Travel Zoo deal for two nights and included a dinner at their restaurant. We seriously loved our stay there, and will certainly be back. First the hotel - excellent and attentive service. We were taken care of like royalty. Our room was spacious, clean, and comfortable.

    For the dinner at their restaurant I'll focus on two main aspects.

    Food: Delicious. For the starter we went with their classic Fondue which includes some broccoli, bread, and apples. It was very tasty and we could have filled up on it alone. Their complimentary bread was accompanied by a smoked sea salt butter that was incredibly delicious. We tried the Wagyu steak and the Colorado Lamb. Both were beautifully presented and equally tasty. For desert we had the Apple strudel (buttery crust surrounding tart apples) and the salted peanut marjolaine. Both were very good. Overall, we had a wonderful dinner and would definitely return.  

    Service: The service was on par with all of the service we received at the Goldener - exceptional. Our server was attentive but not overbearing, and very knowledgeable about the dishes. Some of the best service I've experienced.

    Super overpriced and just-okay food.  

    We were there over New Years Eve and were really disappointed with what we ate for what we paid.  Extremely overpriced food that was nothing more than competent cooking.  Sure, the fondue was good, but at $38 it really should have been awesome.  It wasn't.  My elk tenderloin was improperly cooked.  The $40 scallop risotto contained 2 (TWO!) scallops, seriously!!  The list of bummers goes on and on.

    The room was nice and the service was good, but, c'mon .. dinner for 2 adults and 2 kids, with tip was $350! A huge rip off ... I suggest you save your money and spend elsewhere ...

    The restaurant is excellent.  Chef Ryan Burnham has tweaked the traditional cheese fondue and strudel up a delicious notch.  My favorites were the melt in your mouth halibut and the tuna ceviche. Locals who haven't been here recently should give it a try, and visitors should not miss this place when in Park City.

    The food was delicious, a little pricey, but very very good. Our service was amazing and kind. We went on a Saturday night and they had an AMAZING singer. The atmosphere was perfect, the food was perfect, and the service was perfect. We did not stay in the inn, or even in Deer Valley; still, I would recommend this restaurant to everyone near by.

    Used to be a 4-day-a-week guy here with smoked Gouda omelets to order.  Fireplace table with the NYT.

    I lost interest as Spence Eccles began dictating a bohemian menu and service style. And drove Jean Louis and Zane off.

    Had a great experience today. Superb service from making the Rez to parking, from coat checking to seating and food to service.

    Stuart was a great server and the place was festooned to the nines.  Service was very slow.

    The menu has returned to pre-Spence days and highlights were the Cesar and the burger.  The onion soup lacked the richness of yesteryear.

    Put it on the to do list.  And order the burger with a Franziskaner Weisbier.  

    Welcome back Hirsh.  So long Spence, you're not missed

    Just dined here for the second time because we remembered the first evening we dined here as such a special time.  I love good food with good service that is not overly formal and stuffy.  Sit in the bar next to the fireplace.  Austrian food is hearty so go hungry.  It is almost impossible to finish the lamb shank.  I rarely eat mashed potatoes but theirs are exceptional. We will return...maybe even let our kids in on this special place.

    Last visit was eight years ago and swore I would never go back. Wife found a twofer coupon and said let's give it another try. Nice atmosphere GREAT service and the same poor food I remembered from long ago. Cold meal for me and steak tasting like liver for my wife.   There will be no next time

    We had lunch here one of the days while skiing.  The staff was very friendly and we made it in just before the rush for lunch.  

    We shared a turkey sandwich and onion soup, both were great, fresh ingredients, great flavors. The portions were a nice size to share and get out to the slopes and not feel full.

    We originally wanted to go here for dinner, but I think it's a much better place for lunch.  Not cheap, but not overly expensive.

    Although I am a snowboarder I wanted to come and check out Deer Valley while I was in Park City. I went here for après. Great wine list, ambiance and the après menu although short has excellent food on it. I had the cheese burger with fries and a glass of red wine. They sat me near the fire place which only added to the great ambiance. The staff was extremely friendly and the food was excellent, I highly recommend eating here when in Deer Valley, you will not be disappointed.

    just had an early reservation at the restaurant and while only two people, we waited over 20 minutes and were served water but never even saw a waiter. Other tables were helped but we were in the Dead zone. We left the restaurant and the hostess "thank you for coming" and was indicTive of how unaware the staff was of serving the patrons.

    Warm atmosphere. There is an old fashioned decor (with the exception of the flat screen tv playing golf), with antlers, old skis, and antique-style paintings and instruments lining the walls.
    There are 2 dining rooms, we sat in the room at the table by the fireplace.

    Ordered glue wine, fondue, endive salad, French onion soup, yukon potatoes, wiener schnitzel, and elk steak.

    Had a very nice stay at the Goldener Hirsch Inn this past December. The inn is very beautiful and clean - they meet every standard in terms of the minimum requirements to having a comfortable, nice stay.

    What sets this place apart are the warm welcoming staff members who go out of their way to making your stay extra special.

    We were escorted to our rooms by a very nice man who gave us a run down of the room (in room fireplace etc..) and tips on where to go and what to eat in and around the city. The GM introduced himself the next morning while we were having breakfast in the restaurant - very professional/welcoming gesture. The last evening of our stay we had driven back home (in the snowy cold) and had forgotten to grab snacks. The GM arranged for us to be delivered snacks through one of his staff. The popcorn was delivered fresh and hot to us!

    Very impressed with this place and highly recommend this to anyone!

    This review is for both the hotel and the restaurant.

    We've come here 2 consecutive years in a row during their "shoulder" season between the end of summer and fall, right before they close down until the winter season starts.

    This year, we stayed 3 nights. As part of a promo they were running, we were upgraded to a suite for the price of a regular room. The suite was large with a king size bed, two flat screen TVs, a very large balcony, and a seperate sitting area. The hotel features Aveda toiletries. And our suite even included a spa tub! Fluffly white towels and great robes were provided. The room was very quiet. All the staff we encountered were friendly and kind.

    The restaurant is a real gem. We ate there each night of our stay. The chef comes up with inventive daily salad specials and they usually feature a dessert special each night as well. The steak was delicious and they cooked my halibut perfectly. It's Park City so it's not cheap but the quality of the food as well as the great execution is worth every penny.

    The one negative I will give them is that I am not a fan of the breakfast buffet, as it is continental and so includes way too many bread/cereal products and not enough protein. They do offer cottage cheese and hard boiled eggs but some meat and regular cheese would be appreciated. Still, can't really fault them for this as it is included in the rate. And the berries were very fresh and sweet.

    I am already looking forward to returning again next year, or maybe sooner if I can afford the place during the winter season. :)

    This is one of the classic restaurants in Park City,  Its located in upper Deer Valley, and thus is a hot spot for Apre Skiing and lunch.  But dinner is great too.  The Cheese Fondu is so good you will need a lunch reservation during ski season.  You will see many families having a quiet lunch with their personal ski instructors from Deer Valley, the masses walk around with their food on tray looking for a table, while those in know dine like kings.  The elegant ambiance makes you feel like you just came in from the skiing in Austria and they have the beer and bar to match.  They have music in the bar and one day a week they have a lady who yodels and the audience sings along to the familiar songs. A friend recommended the yodeling and the hot homemade pretzels with a Stein of draft beers and sing along.  I thought no thanks.  Well, we stopped in and dang this was some serious fun.  It gets a huge crowd so get there early as the bar is small and its attached to an award winning 5 Star boutique hotel and the guests know this is one of charming parts of the hotel.  Tried Dinner on Christmas evening at its decorated to the hilt. Great food and exceptional service!

    Usually slopeside dining is a compromise on both flavor and price. The Golden Hirsch gets a solid for quality, which after a grueling morning of skiing is welcome. During my visit to Deer Valley, I was looking for a more leisurely and luxurious option. It is certainly relaxing in comfortable chairs, watching others skiers fly by, with a plate of Steelhead Trout and Quinoa Hash to replenish my energy. The signature pink firm, yet flakey trout didn't have a hint of fishiness. Quinoa, toasted with just a hint of oil, added nuttiness.

    Best place for lunch while skiing in Deer Valley. Goldener is a little off the beaten path, but only a tiny bit... which is perfect since no matter how busy the mountain is, you're likely to be able to get a table without a reservation or wait. The food is quite delicious. I loved both the chicken schnitzel and the bratwurst, the burger (and fries) are excellent too. Service was always reasonably speedy and friendly. Also there are a few tables situated next to fireplaces (gas) if you need to warm up.

    Exquisitely authentic Austrian cuisine in a comforting apre ski setting - roaring fireplace, wall mounted antlers, etc.  White table cloths and a little fancy - yet you can still dine in ski-wear.  

    The food was the real star, though.  Best meal I've ever had in spark City area.

    The pork chop was to die for- truly exceptional.Others in our party  had the lamb loin and beef wagyu - all excellent
    Had the lobster soup- recommend highly.
