Update:  I got a call from the manager, John.  He told me that the hotel has only been open for 4-6 weeks and they're still working through some bugs.  He handled it incredibly well - I was impressed.  He said that they're going to have the rest of their amenities (room service, restaurant, etc.) up and running by July and encouraged me to come back then...  I appreciated the way he handled it and would consider coming back (but would probably wait for a few months after they finish the hotel)

After reading the previous review from Frank A., I had to put in my two cents. We stayed at the Escala back in June of 2010, and had much the same experience.

I have no idea why they would be open for business so far ahead of the time they are actually ready to welcome guests properly. We stayed in a three bedroom suite, and I'll say that the room itself was lovely, as was the pool. Everything else, frankly, sucked.

Great property. Very convenient and clean. The staff was pleasant and very helpful. The temperature was a bit hot, we would crack a door open which fixed it. Would highly recommend and looking forward to coming back.

The Hyatt Escala is conveniently located at the base of The Canyons Resort and is a ski-in ski-out hotel - when there is enough snow... When we arrived the base at the resort was below 20 in and the run that heads to the hotel was closed, as was the lift that services the hotel, so no ski-in, ski-out. Fortunately for us we weren't skiing at Canyons so this was not a disappointment - having said that we wold have really been upset if we were.

We arrived and were greeted by a friendly valet, who took care of out luggage while we checked in. The desk personnel were friendly and check-in only took a moment.  We were shown to our room by the bellhop, who made sure everything was to our liking before he left.  As we started to unpack we realized that our room did not have a closet....are you kidding me??? The room did have a small armoire that  would have worked if we were there for a night or two and didn't have anything longer than 3 ft to hang in it. The strangest part about this is that there was about 30 sq. ft. of wasted space in the room that looked like it would easily accommodate a closet. Who builds a hotel room with one??? Fortunately, when I called the front desk they were understanding and moved us to a room with a closet. The woman mentioned that there were two rooms in the hotel without a closet, guess we were one of the lucky ones.

The rooms are nicely decorated with good lighting and a fireplace.  Unfortunately, someone didn't account for the wind in the mountains which apparently creates drafts in the exhaust flues of the fireplaces and blows out the fire as well as the pilot light.  Maintenance was up pretty quickly and re-lit the pilot, but it blew out 5 minutes after he left. Fortunately once I saw how to light it, I was able to re-lite it the following day when the wind calmed down.

The rooms are very warm, too warm really. We had to open a window each night to get the temperature down to a comfortable one.  Even with the heat turned all the way down out room was still in the low to mid 70's and the AC was turned off so that was no help.

We dined in the Escala Provision Company Restaurant (EPC) twice, once for dinner and once for breakfast.  Both meals were delicious. I have reviewed that separately.

Overall our stay was nice, the staff was attentive and friendly and the hotel was pretty but if we hadn't used Hyatt points to stay here for the week that we did I would have felt a little ripped off. This property just doesn't live up to price that is tries to command. It is unlikely that we will return to this property.

This place is great. I'm a hotel snob, Hyatt Diamond and SPG Plat, and I was very impressed with the Escala. It doesn't compare to Hyatt Grands or anything like that, but it doesn't claim to. MUCH BETTER than the picture I found online. The pix make the place look like a beat up and kind of ratty ski lodge hotel, but I found it to be the opposite. Very clean, new and tasteful. Awesome ski valet, friendly people and decent food.

one word: MAGICAL!

Well not according to the other reviews but let me explain why:
First of all we were staying in a 3 bedroom mega suite that included a foldout bed in the living room with a chimney and a giant flat screen TV,  next to that there was a huge kitchen and dining room the size of a 700 sq foot apartment and we also had 6 ( yes six) out door porches that had an excellent view from every angle of the building from the 3rd floor. The place itself is worth 1.8 million dlls on the market ( we checked it out) ( and ate the delicious chocolates from the Realtor) ... the place was simply awesome, well taken cared off and everything was functioning properly ... the showers and bathtubs were huuuuge! ( hello couples!)
Another great feature was the driveway loop that accesses the buildings it is HEATED so there is no snow on the pavement ( lol yes that was cool )

The restaurant bfast and steak dinner were outstanding ( I'm glad we had dinner here instead of the Farm restaurant,  read review)  

Another great feature is that they have their own ski/board shop in the building! They will HAND wax and hold your equipment till next day for a mere 20 bucks  ...how cool is that?

Next is this awesome feature, after our great bfast ( that included freshed squeezed OJ ) we went to the 2nd floor to claim our equipment,  walked out the rear door ( still on the second level) put our boards on and slid down a  hill for about 500 +- feet to the lift that took us up the mountain.

One more :) .... on our way back to the hotel there is access from the mountain directly to the spot we left from and the shop greeted us with HOT CIDER & COOKIES!  ( I can't stop smiling while writing this)

I need to mention that the Skiing & Boarding on The Canyons mountain was superb beyond anything I've ever done ( that includes Park City, Brian Head & Mammoth Mt. as the biggest I've done) , they have all levels,  it is so big there are places with no one out there! the black diamonds are insane and the lifts are fast.

And last but not least: The Staff,  somehow they knew our needs before we asked. Their service , dedication, professionalism and most of all their friendliness was OUTSTANDING. I believe the get bonuses per smile lol .... very very very friendly and courteous staff it makes me want to move there.

Heck there was so much I wanted to write about I forgot....shoot me a msg if u want to know more.

This was by far the best snowboarding package I've ever had I highly recommend it.

I have never spent a worse night in a hotel!! Please think twice before staying here!
- We checked in at 5PM to our Queen Suite. The room had not been cleaned from the people who had last been there.
- The room we were moved to was on the ground level. When we walked in the temperature in the room was 89 degrees. All of the windows were open and the AC was not turned on (this was the first weekend in August). The AC did not work well and took 12+ hours to cool the room down to 79 degrees. The maintenance man came twice but said everything was fine both times. The room was very humid and had a musty smell. We did not feel comfortable opening the sliding door at night, being on the ground level and it was just my mother and I in the room.
- The room was called a "Queen" Suite, but had only a double bed. I am 5'8" and my feet were hanging off the end, let alone there was no room for me and my mother to comfortably sleep together.
- The AC vent in the bedroom was located right above the bed, and blew directly into your face, leaving our sinuses dry and painful in the morning.
- We found two beetles in bed in the morning.

Ultimately we were moved to the Executive Suite on the 5th floor because I complained and was planning on moving hotels. Granted, I had requested a King Size bed when we checked in, and I was told that the hotel was full and no other rooms were available. The room was absolutely beautiful and beyond what we needed, but the AC worked and the bed was comfortable. Devon at the front desk was the only positive in this entire experience. She ensured we were happy and comfortable with the new room, waived all resort fees, provided daily complimentary breakfast and sent up cold bottles of water and truffles when we arrived back to our room one afternoon. Unfortunately her excellence could not make up for the complete lack of customer service. Even after being moved to the Executive Suite:
- I called housekeeping to request washcloths, as there were none left when the room was serviced that day. The washcloths never arrived.
- The food and breakfast was great, but the service cancelled out the yummy food. The one (maybe two) waitress did not have time to provide any kind of good service, which I understood because she was all alone, but it was painful to even order a glass of OJ that would take 20 minutes to arrive. The coffee had grounds in it, and they ran out of menus in a restaurant that only appeared half filled.
- When we were checking out, the valet brought me the wrong car. When I told him it was not my car, he made me feel like it was my fault, arguing with me that I had given him the valet claim ticket that matched the wrong car's keys. I insisted it was not the correct car and had to describe my rental car in order to get the correct car.

The hotel was aesthetically pleasing, but failed miserably in customer service and overall comfort. They appeared very understaffed, young and uninterested in providing good service. I would not recommend the Hyatt Escala Lodge.

I LOVE hotel loyalty programs. While Starwood is my preferred program (you can not beat their cash and points option), my husband traveled a lot for work last year and had accrued quite a few Hyatt points. This is worth noting as the going rate for an overnight stay at this ski in/out resort is almost $500. If I HAD paid that much money, I would have been extremely disappointed in the following:
-the room was incredibly dark
-the patio door curtain was broken and let in too much light
-the shower water pressure was mediocre
-there was no do not disturb sign and were awoken at 9 am by housekeeping
-someone elses underpants were in our bathroom vanity (no lie)

At least the parking and ski valet were quick and efficient, the outdoor pool & hot tub looked awesome and the "market" in the main lobby made a pretty mean breakfast sandwich (the Escala, if you are wondering).

Palatial room with all the amenities a skier could ask for!

Every employee from valet, to front desk, to bell hop is nothing but polite, positive, and gracious. Valet parking is worked into the resort fee so you never have to worry about parking yourself. Also their parking is all underground so their is never a snow covered vehicle when it is brought to you.

I will discuss the ski in ski out venue in the canyons review. But overall I cannot stress how beautiful and enjoyable this Hyatt is. I read some of the less favorable reviews for it but found them wanting. These people work incredibly hard to make sure you are a happy customer. I'll be back!

We went here right at the start of the 2012 winter season. Weekend of thanksgiving. Out of the 3 mountains, only the Canyons had opened and so Hyatt - a ski-in-ski-out resort was also open.

***please note that the resort was quite empty at the time we were there

Staff - 5 stars
Room hygiene - 5 stars
Maintenance request - 5 stars
The fireplace was not working and the curtain clips were stuck. Someone was in the room within 5 minutes to fix both those things.
We thought that the room was quite poorly lit and requested an additional table lamp which also they brought within 5 minutes.
Cafe - 3 stars.
When a hotel opens its doors for business, it should do so completely. The cafe was running but the dining area was not ready. Our only options to enjoy our morning pancakes was either to sit on the lobby couches or to take them back to our room and eat it on our bed.... we chose the latter.
Ski valet - 5 stars basically since it is newly opened, the ski gear was brand new.
Valet staff - Friendly and courteous.

It might help to put some signs up when entering the canyons letting guests know where the Hyatt is located. We got lost between the Sundial lodge, the Silverado lodge and Grand Summit before finally finding our way to Hyatt Escala.

I would go back again.

After getting a deal on Sniqueaway, we learned that it really wasn't much of a deal. This "5 Star" resort was just ok. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE little getaways to Park City so while this was lovely, it definitely was not the 5 star treatment. Our room was incredibly HOT. The thermostat never seemed to be quite right. Also, no full length mirror in the room. Not a huge deal but we like to see the whole picture sometimes!
There was old room service in the hallways, for our entire stay.
I have been to other resorts that do it right and the experience blows you away. To me, a 5 star should blow me away and this certainly didn't.
Staff was very nice, hot tubs were great, gym served it's purpose. Not sure that I would stay here again, but you never know what type of deals will pop up!

I was here from Sunday-Wednesday of last week at this place is great!

I had a beautiful room on the sixth floor in the main section of the hotel and when I walked onto my balcony, I could see people skiing by!

The customer service was amazing! I had a scratchy throat and a girl at the provisions market made a me home remedy to help my throat. Also, I would go by the market to grab hot water and honey for my tea every morning in which they didn't mind at all. One day, I was busy working on my laptop many hours and one of the managers noticed that I kept walking by to get hot water for my tea so he offered me a thermos of hot water so I can get my work done and not spend so much time walking back and forth from one part of the hotel to the other.

Late at night that day, I went down to the market but unfortunately it was closed. A girl at the front desk noticed me lingering and re-opened the market so I can buy my juice and snacks.

The staff is very friendly, they always greet you with a hello and a smile when walking by. I will not hesitate to book my stay here next time!

Was really disappointed in our experience at this hotel.  To start with the positive, the hot tub is fantastic! Also, the hotel staff that we dealt with were really friendly and helpful when they could be.  However,......

A couple things....
    1. There are ice buckets in every room but no ice machines.  If you want ice, you have to get it from the front desk... Never been to a hotel without an ice machine on every floor..
    2.  Can't really say anything about the bar or restaurant because they were always closed too early!  We never even had a single drink at this hotel. Maybe it's just because it's Utah....
    3. No room service! Wow! Not sure you can say you're a full service hotel without it... just sayin!
    4.  Our phone in the room wasn't working... we had to call the front desk from our cell phones to get.... of all things,  TOILET PAPER!! There wasn't any in our room when we checked in!! How in the world did this room even pass inspection??
   
    Again,  the staff and everyone we dealt with were great and very friendly.  Compared to all the other Hyatt Hotels, however, this one just doesn't really live up to the Hyatt brand name.  Better bet is to stay next door at the Hilton and it pains me deeply to say that!

This is a very nice ski in ski out hotel in the Canyons at Park City.  The staff are very friendly and the location is walking distance from the main base

The ski butler and trail access is on the 2nd floor so if you can get a room on that floor it may make life easier

The in hotel market has a good selection of snacks and breakfast food if you just want to get up and go though if you have pickier eaters you would be well served to hit a real grocery store

The free wifi was fast (good enough for House of Cards season 2) and easy to access

Our family of six spent eight nights here for this 2014 Thanksgiving holiday and this is our fourth visit to the Hyatt Escala in the past 24 months. We love it here but struggle to identify the best part of our stay: fantastic & friendly staff, excellent location (& views!) or the gorgeous, high-end rooms.   The single bedrooms are standard size and nicely appointed but you should try to get a suite -- that gets you a full kitchen, dinner table for 8, a full size family room (w/ sofa beds) and a washer / dryer.  And, oh yeah, a fireplace in every room.  When the mountain is fully open, you can ski in and out.  This early, the staff shuttled us to the lifts and practically strapped on our skis for us.  We will definitely be back and strongly encourage you to stay here, too.

This is not a over-the-top, luxury at every corner, type of  hotel. This is just an awesome ski-in, ski-out hotel.

I say this because the negative reviews seem to be confusing this place with something along the lines of a St. Regis. I don't really see how, because this hotel isn't charging nearly what a St. Regis would cost.

We've stayed at numerous ski hotels/resorts, paying up to $1,000 a night, and this one stands out by a mile. The ski valet convenience, the quality of the rooms, the level of service is impressive, particularly given we are here on President's Day week when the hotel is at capacity. That's the other thing - it never feels crowded or chaotic, which is first for us.

We will be back.

Very nice accommodations and great service. Our room was spacious, clean and high quality linens.  The pool area was nice except they did not have a pool cafe or bar. We only had dessert in the restaurant but the s'more dessert was sinfully good. We will always stay here when visiting Park City.

Not sure why this isn't receiving better reviews.  I went for Valentine's Day with my boyfriend for a one night stay.  Even though we arrived at 11am, the room was ready, and the staff was extremely helpful.  

We went straight to the ski valet (AMAZING!) and returned to the valet when we'd had enough.  The ski rental was a bit overpriced, but the service was GREAT, the guy even helped me adjust and put on my non-rented boots when he saw I was having some difficulties.  

After that, we bought a six pack of beer from the market ($20 for 6 coronas, not store pricing, but not bar pricing either), put them in the obligatory plastic cups and headed to the hot tub.  And oh my.  The hot tub was fantastic.  I wanted to stay all day.  perfect temperature, surrounded by crisp air and a beautiful view.  

the room was spacious, I loved having our own fireplace, and the shower was very nice.  I wish I had time to enjoy the jetted bath, but alas.  

Despite being full, they gave us a late checkout, and I stayed and worked till 4 before enjoying the hot tub and locker room/sauna.  The staff was super accommodating even though we had checked out and helped us get keys to use the facilities for the rest of the day.  
Would definitely go back and was very sad to leave.

My husband and I had an AMAZING experience at the Hyatt Escala Lodge Hotel. We found a deal, and though it was still a little pricey, it was completely worth it. Everything was perfect! The customer service, food, decor, cleanliness, staff were all on point. There wasn't one thing my husband and I could complain about. It was truly a great experience. I highly recommend this place.

I was really excited to stay at this location when I saw that it was listed as a premier Hyatt property.  It is by no means terrible but compared to other high end hotels I have stayed it it was ok.   The atmosphere/decor overall is pretty bare bones.  Especially the walk down the hall to the workout facility/pool.  I am an avid yogi and when I saw they supposedly had yoga mats available to buy/ borrow I was excited and called the front for one.  Disappointedly, the girl told me they didn't have any.  Why would you have a card in the rooms listing amenities that you have available for guests, and really not have it available to them?  Also, I do not always require housekeeping for my hotel stays, so I left the privacy sign up.  Nonetheless this did't stop the housekeeping staff from knocking on the door and proceed to open the door!  Also the sound proofing of the place is not that great.  On our first night there, some people were talking in the hallway pretty loudly and it woke us up.  Last complaint, the shower was poorly designed.  The shower is a glass stall/box.  In order to turn the shower on, you are in the shower right in the line of getting sprayed with cold water...  There is no way to turn on the water without getting into the shower and getting wet & cold..  Not a pleasant experience after a long day at the slopes.  The bed overall were not bad, I have to say that they are relatively comfortable.  We also got to enjoy the pool and hot tub which was also nice after a day at the slopes. Would I stay here again? Yeah, maybe but only if I get to use points.  The location is not bad,  it has easy access to the mountain, and the hotel by no means a dump.  However, at the normal cost of the hotel, and with the disappointing lack of amenities, I would  think twice before booking this place.

Third year staying at Escala and consistently happy with the room quality, convenience and friendliness of staff. Each room is spacious and utilitarian to store your ski gear, offers gorgeous bathrooms, comfy beds and a warm and toasty fire place in each room. Enjoy the hot tub with some brews to sooth tour achey muscles after a long day on the slopes and use that big fluffy robe in your room. Ski rental is located on the second floor (see my review for Aloha Ski Rental) which offers a direct ski access to the sunrise chair lift. There is a market and a restaurant located in the lobby. The staff has always been friendly, professional and accommodating to our requests. This is truly my Park City paradise/home away from home!

What a wonderful property!  I stayed in a king room, which had a fireplace,  wet bar, refrigerator  and microwave.   I loved the secure  underground parking,  so I could grab things from my car.  The restaurant was incredible.  The mac and cheese is a necessary indulgence!  I would highly recommend this place!

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 4 nights in August 2014. Everything was outstanding! What impressed me most though was what happened after we left. A couple weeks later, I realized I left my prescription glasses in our room. I'll shorten a long story by saying the staff at the Hyatt Escala went above and beyond what I expected! I was in contact with them almost every day and never once were they rude or impatient. My glasses got lost in the mail and they reimbursed me for the cost of the new ones I ended up purchasing. I am SO thankful for the quality service we received during our stay and after. We will be coming back and recommending it to friends for sure!

Stayed here for a full week in August-September (for mountain biking). Amazing location if you are planning to ride Canyons.
The staff is amazing! Friendly, welcoming and so helpful. The rooms are beautiful- stayed in the King Lodge one bedroom suite. Had two huge balconies, full sized kitchen. Even had washer/dryer in the room. Two fireplaces, two bathrooms. The master bath features a glass shower and huge sunken tub with jets. Loved my stay, will definitely be returning

My girlfriend and I found a good deal on Hotwire for a night at the Hyatt Escala Lodge.

When we arrived, the staff were overwhelmingly friendly and great to interact with.

There was one small issue with the sheets on our bed when we got into the room. We brought it up and they quickly replaced them.

The general manager caught wind of it and offered to give us another night for free and pay for our food. He certainly didn't need to do that, but we were very grateful and took him up in the offer.

The rooms are comfortable and luxurious but not over the top. Hot tub and pool area were awesome, not to mention the steam room and sauna. Only downside with the pool area is that it didn't seem to have heated walkways so the ice was a little treacherous.

The food at the cafe downstairs was hit and miss. Great breakfast burrito, but pretty bland hamburger. For the prices they charge you expect more.

Overall, amazing stay. Would definitely go back.
