This Holiday Inn Express deserves 3.5 stars.  First, it's located far north of Seattle so don't believe you can walk downtown.  My wife's corporate office is located near the Northgate Mall so we need somewhere to stay in the general area.  As stated in other reviews, there are very few reasonable choices in the vicinity.  I looked online and then drove around extensively to find the nicest place to stay and I believe this is it. I agree, there are nicer Holiday Inn Expresses.  However, there is nothing in the general area that's better, including the Nexus.  While the overall facility is showing its nine year age, it's still very clean and well maintained.  The room we stayed in was clean and spacious with very comfortable beds and pillows and a nice shower.  Also, the room was quiet but that could be due to other guests.  Nonetheless, it was a pleasant surprise.  We didn't get to use the indoor pool or hot tub but we stopped in and they looked pretty nice.  The staff was pleasant and efficient and they responded to a couple requests very promptly.  The free breakfast is decent with small omelets, muffins, bacon, sausage and biscuits & gravy.  Cereal, a pastry, bagels, coffee, tea and juices are included too.  Overall, the breakfast is good, convenient and included in the room rate.  If you have a need to stay in this particular area, I've done the legwork for you.  This hotel is your best choice.  One more thing... this hotel will soon undergo an upgrade... this will improve an already good property but you might want to ask if the renovation is taking place and choose your room accordingly.

I am on a budget since getting laid off from work last month but I really did not want to cancel my vacation to Seattle and Vancouver earlier this month. My cousin and I stayed here as it was walking distance to the Space Needle and Experience Music. It's a little far from downtown so be warned.  Staff is friendly and free breakfast is offered from 6:30 am - 10:30 am.  The rooms were spacious and clean.  Pillows and bed was uber comfy.  You get a choice of firm or soft pillows.  How about that!?!? The bathroom sink is located outside of the bathroom. Little weird but it all works out...Overall, good for families and those watching their wallets.

Nice hotel completely consistent with holiday inn express. Their is some noise from the road so if you are a sensitive sleeper get the other side.  Pool was good but hot tub was broken while we were there. Definitely a 3.5 star hotel comfortable predictable and nice.

This is NOT near the Space Needle. This Holiday Inn Express is in Northgate. This hotel has plenty of good points. The room is spacious and it has a good bed. There is wireless in all the rooms. It is clean and the shower is great. You do get a breakfast although the quality of it is not one of the good points. Northgate is where our daughter lives so we stay here because it is the best hotel in the area.

On a recent stay we were given a room on the 4th floor. We were absolutely shocked and repulsed as the door to the elevator opened. The overpowering stench of cigarette smoke was worse than the sleaziest of pool halls! Without hesitation, we all turned around and headed for the elevator. When I told the desk clerk about it, he was silent but seemed to be typing away at the computer. I said, "Aren't you going to say anything?" He said, "I'm getting you another room, what more do you want." Talk about rude... It clearly stated No Smoking on our room reservation. I cannot believe he actually thought this floor appropriate for a non-smoker. But more than that, he should have smiled, apologized and tried at the least to be cordial when faced with a complaint.

We got another room and all was well. We had a great night's sleep and ate in the breakfast room. I ate yogurt, English muffin and hard boiled eggs. But they do have the biscuit and gravy offering sitting there. How long it has been sitting is another question. Breakfast  is included in the price or I wouldn't bother.

Not sure if we will stay here again. But quality hotels are scarce in this area.

I agree on the 3.5 stars. The hotel is clean and the staff have always been pretty good to us. We don't normally eat hotel buffet breakfasts, so this one is pretty ordinary. However, there are a number of restaurants within walking distance (including the best Taco truck in the area about 7 blocks North, on Aurora near 150th.) Also, it is *not* walking distance to Northgate Mall or the Seattle Center. It is easy to get on a #358 bus to get to the Center or downtown, goes right down Aurora/Hwy 99. I believe you can also get a bus across 145th that will take you to Northgate Mall. Buses in Seattle are pretty frequent, but focused on getting you downtown, not across town.

We have always been accommodated with use of freezer space for the things we bring back from Seattle as well as early checkins when we have needed them. It's true that the first half of the 4th floor are smoking rooms, so you may get a few whiffs when you get off the elevator, but the other half is around a dogleg and pretty clear of fumes.

I would not stay at the majority of the other hotels on Aurora Avenue, so we have been here a number of times and will come back, it suits our needs very well. Pricing is competitive for Seattle, not cheap, but not over-spendy either.

It's ok.  Definitely worth the money.  Within walking distance of the space needle.  However, the road is tricky to cross, you have to walk a while to get to a safe crossing.  The room is clean and acceptable.  I breakfast is decent.  Pastries, bread, cereal, eggs, bacon or sausage, yogurt, fruit, biscuits.  Very good stay for the money.

Unfortunately, I usually stay at HIE for work in other towns where there are no other options. Therefore, I try to stay at HIE to get more reward points when I travel to other places that do have more options. I should have just stayed at a decent hotel since I'm in Seattle. The rooms don't seem that much different town-to-town; seems clean, but I didn't know I'd be on a floor that has smoking rooms and I don't want to move, the customer service sucks, the wireless and ethernet connection (yes both) do not work very well - keep kicking me off and then I have to sign back in and go back to whatever I was working on. Should advertise limited internet services. They have nice big hdtvs but only a couple channels that have hd, and then a limited lineup with analog. Won't be back.

Looks amazing after a recent remodel. Not the cheapest but the nicest in the area among some very shady places. Very friendly and great breakfast.

Located at 145th and Route 99 (Aurora Blvd.).  Not too far from Northgate Mall, which is at 105th and I5.

Newer property and consistent with other Holiday Inn Express'.  The area is not great, very commercial, and this might be the better of the bunch as far as hotels go.  Yes, price is moderate; at least for Seattle.

As usual the rooms are spacious, clean, and the king bed is outstanding.  Nice job on the shower head.

The internet gets really bogged down at night and they need to do something about that.  Their comment "it gets slow when we are full" was really silly.  Make it work when it is full, then it will really work when it is less than full.

    Breakfast is typical Holiday Inn.

You may not do better in this part of town and you could really do worse.  I'm a fan.

Wasn't our first choice, but with all the hotels booked in Downtown for the Packers game, it fit our needs.  Clean and friendly. Would stay here again if I needed to.

My parents stayed here the first time they came up to visit me.  The building is showing its age and it's definitely not the best Holiday Inn Express in the country, but not the worst.  The breakfast is pretty good, the parking is free, the showers are excellent, and the room is clean.  However, it is pretty far north, and not really close to anything tourist-y in Seattle.  The name is a bit misleading as well, because it's pretty far from Northgate Mall, too.

Note:  this is NOT near the Space Needle!  As in, 150+ blocks north of it.  The reviews that say it's within walking distance are referring to a different Holiday Inn Express.

We arrived at the hotel earlier than anticipated and had hoped for an early check in (we'd stayed in a holiday inn express in Bellingham the night before and they'd let us check in early).  We pulled in to the parking lot and there was about 3 cars parked.

Hubby went in and asked if we could check in early and he said 'No'.  Ok, so, either they had a hotel full of dirty rooms, a hotel full of people who walked and didn't have cars in the lot, or, he just wasn't being accommodating.

When we did check in, there was probably about 5 or 6 cars in the parking lot, we asked for a King room but apparently they didn't have one of those, we got a Queen room with no fridge (which we'd also had in the previous HIE).  Room was clean etc but just not thrilled about the 'lesser' service we got here compared to a hotel in the same chain a little further north.

The hot tub and pool are both great and the breakfast is excellent!

There are reviews that mention that this Hotel is under construction, but all is DONE!  We walked into the beautiful new lobby and were greeted by a very friendly and helpful front desk.  We got a GREAT price, then went to our room on the 3rd floor.  When we opened the door, we were blown away.  Everything is new - even the 42" flat screen TV.  There's even a small "kitchenette" and living area with sofa and chair - your own living room.

We REALLY recommend this hotel. For the $$$, we've had none better.  And the area is NOT bad - it's on the old Route 99.  Highly Recommended.

My mom stayed here during her visit this past weekend. She stayed here a few years ago and it was nice, but this time left a lot to be desired.

The internet/wi-fi was intermittent to non-existent; I called downstairs twice and the first guy told me it had to be my computer (ummm, no), while the second time was a female who asked me if I was sure it wasn't working (no, I'm lying because I love pretending the internet isn't working). The third person I spoke to explained the issue to be the lack of a strong signal as you move away from the center of the building. He said they were supposed to have installed something to correct the problem, but that is didn't seem to be working. He then offered to move us to a room closer to the center, but I declined since it was my mom's last night at the hotel. I wish that gentleman had been there the other times I called downstairs.

We had to go downstairs to pick up our own towels... not sure why housekeeping couldn't bring it up. One of the towels was clean, but it had stained yellow spots so it should have been tossed out and not included in the towels placed in rooms. The continental breakfast was decent so no complaints there.

My friends came to visit earlier in the year and stayed at the Holiday Inn near the Seattle Center area. I should have put my mom there and will do so next time because that one is like the Ritz Carlton compared to this one.

One good thing is that the parking is free here and it's easy to get to I-5. Aaaaand it ends there.

The night we checked in we were not accommodated for what we had asked and the man told us that "people had been staying there for months" and that they couldn't move them. I'm sure he lied to us because no one stays in a hotel for more than a month. So when we said we were gonna go look for another hotel he said " most things are booked but have fun". Excuse me but I think that was really rude. We could not find any hotels with a good location so we decided to stay. I'm pretty sure he had it out for us because he was going to give us rooms down the hall from each other. Luckily when we finally checked in the manager gave us rooms across from each other (something he never would have given us). When we finally got to the room it smelled really bad and it was sort of numbing. The other room we had was too hot and also smelled. Our first night there the housekeeping service did not get around to our hallway until 5 o'clock. That was wierd and we were already back at the hotel ready to rest. Overall if you took away the rude staff member, the smell, and we had been in what we asked for this would have been a better experience.

Very friendly front desk staff. They made a great first impression.
The location was great for what I needed. And the room was very comfortable. I had a view of Mt. Rainier and downtown Seattle. Not bad.
The breakfast wasn't too bad either. Just try to get down there early. It gets massively busy around 8:30-9 am.
My only complaint is that the wi-fi was very slow in my room. It was almost like having dial up.
But aside from that, I was very happy with this hotel choice and would return if I needed to be in the North of Seattle.

We were visiting my son, daughter in law and grandchildren when we spent the night here. It was close to their home (2 miles) and had the highest rating for nearby hotels.  My son was surprised when I said we were staying on Aurora. His actual comment was - "that's where all the hookers are".  That certainly didn't help me feel warm and fuzzy about the location.
When we rolled up it was dark and the neighborhood is a little sketch but not terrible. Check in was easy and we went up the room.  A few notes:
    - Bed Comfortable
    - Bathroom clean
    - No bed bugs
    - Impossible to close the heavy curtain to block the street light
    - Old window could not be locked. Thankful we were on the third floor.
    - Old window was not soundproof so you could hear the traffic.  Good thing we were really tired so sleeping was no problem

This place charges too much for what it delivers. Next time I will drive further and go to a better hotel and likely, pay less.

Could not have been more pleased staying here!

The staff was great. The beds were EXTREMELY comfortable. The pool/hot tub area was open 24/7. The continental breakfast was amazing--a lot of variety.

The customer service here is amazing.
Gavin and Kevin both helped me find my way to downtown, as I am not from a commuter city the bus system is a little strange to me. They set me up so well.
The next day I asked for recommendations for restaurants and places to see...Chloe and Kevin sat down with me and wrote me a whole list for Capitol Hill and the International district. I was so impressed and thankful. Their customer service exceeds expectations and is what all hotels should offer. Thank you so much for helping make this trip wonderful!

O and their complementary breakfast is the best I think I've ever had.

Nice hotel right outside of Seattle. Free breakfast was good (even though my wife and I noticed people stuffing their backpacks and so forth with food to take with them). I think hotels need to come up with some type of sign in sheet for breakfast, because I'm not even sure this person we saw was staying at the hotel. Only take what you need people!

Clean and up-to-date hotel, reasonably priced, and accommodating. I enjoyed the breakfast that included a decent selection. The front desk clerks were always polite and helpful. The floor I was on was always quiet. The TV was a larger size. The bed was comfortable. I'd definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a moderately priced, decent place to stay.
