I stayed at this location some 12 years ago and liked it then.  I stayed here last weekend and loved it.  This location got a make-over more recently.  The breakfast room is pleasant, the complimentary breakfast is the BEST any similarly-priced hotel chain offers.   Fresh waffles, not the frozen-pop-in-the-toaster kind!!!

The evening we checked in, the super front desk agent (Evie?) directed us to a great pizza delivery place.

The only minor issue is that the small gym (one treadmill, one bike, a few weight machines) fills up quickly.  It is right next to the pool/jacuzzi and  humid.

Normally I don't like chains, but their off-Nob Hill location in Portland and Bellevue location are also up to their standards.

Hey, my parents like it here, so that's good enough for me. Plus, that means they don't sleep at my place when they come. :)

Distance makes the heart grow something, but if that distance is really really small, then it just gets uncomfortable for everyone involved.

Good Value, Great Location, Clean.
Called 30min before I walked in to make reservation, got a great rate (~150+taxes, free parking and breakfast) for a king room. Only ~10-15min drive to DT Seattle, but you don't need to go, its right next to "The Village" great outdoor shopping ctr. Lots of shops and food and around U of W.
TV in room is as big as mine at home 42" flat panel, Free WiFi, mini fridge, microwave, clean, good bed and shower, very large room.
Would stay here any day over the Union Lake Courtyard - (see my review)
Hope you enjoy as much as I did.

I stayed here when I was in Seattle for a job interview.  I liked that it was close to the University and that there was a running trail nearby that went on a lot longer than I could run, which is really only a couple blocks to be honest.

The location is close the shopping at University Village, and the staff was very helpful in helping me to figure out transportation to get downtown.

Happy to have discovered this place.  Clean, updated rooms and awesome location that is just a few blocks walk from U Village and a couple minutes drive to UW.  Prices seemed very reasonable for what you get.  Fitness center, pool, complimentary breakfast, free parking, and only a short cab ride from downtown.  I'd definitely recommend this hotel to family or friends visiting Seattle.

If the cloud is silver, what color is its lining? In the case of Silver Cloud it's an inoffensive grayish taupe.

For all intents and purposes this place is a spiffed up Holiday Inn. A good place to lay your head but nothing too cozy.

My dark and mildly depressing room smelled slightly strange. The heater fan moaned and made noise when I cranked it to the max to generate any heat.

But there are plenty of amenities which account for its popularity. SC serves an above average free breakfast, has a pool, small exercise room and free internet. Their employees are friendly and courteous and offer a discounted rate if you are visiting the nearby University of Washington Medical center. In addition it's within walking distance to the swank University Village shopping center.

Stayed for several days at the end of September. Also was lucky to hit beautiful, sunny weather! The hotel was very convenient to the University of Washington. The rooms are impeccably clean. The included breakfast is delicious, with a nice selection. Room is nicely appointed with a flat screen tv, a small refrigerator, and microwave. Staff is attentive and helpful. There is a nature trail right next to the hotel. The hotel has an indoor swimming pool and computers and printers for guest use. Bus stop to downtown Seattle is close by, about a block away by foot. There are many restaurants around the area. Nearby shopping is unfortunately limited to the usual corporate stuff like Tiffany, Eddie Bauer, Restoration Hardware, Pottery Barn, and other chain stores in a really nice upscale shopping area. There is a QFC grocery store and a pharmacy nearby. All in all, a wonderful place to stay if you need to be close to the university. Highly recommended!

I stayed here for 4 weeks in May 2010. I came back 3 months later and everyone recognized me and greeted me with a welcome.

I have no complaints! 42" plasma screens, A/C, pool, workout room, and now they have hot breakfast. I'll try it tomorrow and update accordingly. Tuesday night is guest appreciation night. Free beer and  wine plus some nice snacks to take the edge off after a long day of working up at UW.

All the employees are friendly and helpful. That's hard to find in any establishment. I've stayed in many hotels and these people have the hospitality factor dialed in.  I had a housekeeper help me hold the door as I fumbled my way in with my luggage through the back.

I'll be back for every time I work at the U!

I stayed here for 4 days in November 2011. It was a busy weekend since there was a game in town but their customer service was still excellent. The free shuttle made this place worth it. I only wish they had a restaurant on site, although they do offer complementary breakfast.

Nice place. We're staying here on the 4th of July: when we went to the front desk to ask for a restaurant recommendation, they had already called several dozen local spots so they'd know who was open and until when! Now that's proactive customer service!

I love a 4star hotel as much as the next person, but don't have a 4star budget (even if you score a great rate through a discount site, you usually pay through the nose for everything else anyway...).  But especially traveling alone, not much tolerance for anything potentially sketchy. Enter: Silver Cloud University

Easy & free parking? Check. Free breakfast at a reasonable time, with a variety of hot & cold options? Check.  Bonus points for the concealed microwave & fridge in the room, so I could stay in budget on some food items but not feel like I was living in a kitchen (and two supermarkets just down the street for stocking up).  Aveda products in the bathroom, what??? Awesome!  And *complimentary wifi*...?!?! The tv was bigger than the one in my living room, the bed and reading chair were comfy, the heat was warm, the shower was hot and reasonably powerful... And I admired the way they folded the washcloths into fans (all about the little details, people).

Downstairs, the front desk people were always friendly and helpful in the face of my cluelessness, and even though I had a car I made use of their 3mi-radius shuttle several times - to/from UW campus thus saving on parking $$ and again to/from a bus stop so I didn't have to deal with sorting out transfers in my travel-addled mind (there are bus stops nearby for the more savvy/coherent guests). The fireplace in the lobby made for an inviting welcome when the weather was less than friendly outside.  Though i did not make use of them myself, I saw others in the fitness room, laundry and small pool - definitely a plus if you're there for a longer period of time.  And speaking of the Others, even though there was a Huskies game that weekend and I knew there were plenty of people in the hotel with me, the only noise I heard was some little kids running to breakfast in the morning, which just served to remind me I'd better be running to get to breakfast in the morning - otherwise, peace.

Possibly not the most convenient location if you're planning on spending all of your time downtown and just doing a lot of walking, but not prohibitively inconvenient either if you can handle the bus, and definitely a good deal. If you're not renting a car, Shuttle Express has this on their regular airport route (according to their site, at least).

ENVIRONMENT - The location is great if you're here for hospital services.  It's several miles from the Children's Hospital and Medical Center and hence beyond walking distance but the hotel has a shuttle service that runs every 30 minutes to take you to any location within 3 miles.  They will also happily pick you up and bring you back.  It's also next door to University Village, which serves all your shopping needs.

There's a pool, fitness center, and laundry facilities.  They also serve complimentary breakfast every morning from 6:30 to 9:30AM, which consists of your staples - eggs, sausage, cereal, yogurt, bagels, muffins, coffee, and OJ.  There is also hot tea and coffee station available at all hours.

The rooms are spartan in decor (like a Holiday Inn) but totally serve the purpose and they're clean.  They are well-equipped with a 42 inch plasma screen, small dorm-size fridge, microwave, and coffee maker.

SERVICE - Very friendly.  They really go out of their way to be accommodating and are extremely helpful.

Overall, I found this hotel to be very hospitable and for that reason, I would return.

Feels a little low end in terms of updating decor but the service cost shuttle service convenience can't be beat.  Also the breakfast is free and convenient with hot coffee available all day.  The cost seems very reasonable/cheap.

Super friendly service.
Close to shopping as well as the hospital/university.

I have stayed at this particular Silver Cloud for the past fours and it just keeps getting better and better! Top-notch customer service is always a welcomed trait at any business and this hotel trains their staff well. From greeting me each and every time I enter the hotel to walking down the hall to the breakfast staff, they have smiles on their faces and a hello or good morning waiting for you. The cleaning staff is amazing, with their smiles on they take the time to "personalize" their services when asked. The amenities welcome any traveler from a washer/dryer to the workout room to the pool and spa to the fabulous location in the beautiful U-district. Bottom line: You don't want to miss this one!

A great place at a great price.  Right on the BIrk Gilman trail so bring your bike.  Clean rooms with great staff.  Breakfast has many options and the hot food tastes like it came from kitchen not the microwave.  I would stay here again.  Not too far from Top Pot donuts!

Compared to the one in bellvue this is a bit dumpy. Very old decor.... Staff was nice and they do have a pool, but this place was pricey when we were here in august 2013.

I stayed here for an interview in the neighboring area and I was so impressed with the front desk staff, that I highly recommend this hotel. Madison and Gaby (I hope I got their names right!) where so helpful and super friendly, as were the rest of their staff. They held my bags for me until I was ready to pick them up (I checked out early and had a late afternoon flight) and I was able to explore the area a bit without lugging around a heavy carry-on. I am so glad I stayed here. Not to mention, the rooms are impeccably clean and very large. I would stay here again! Thanks Silver Cloud Inn! What great customer service!

Attended a conference at UW and very convenient and shuttle service was great. Lots of good restaurants walking distance and an outdoor mall. Did not get four stars secondary to no room service options and young staff working front desk that were at times flighty. They did serve a pretty nice continental breakfast.

We have family in Seattle & since we moved we come to visit often. We've stayed in many hotels in the Seattle area, and this is the best one!  The best thing is they don't charge for parking!!  A rarity these days. When we stayed at hotels downtown, the cost to park was usually $48 a night. That adds up. The Silver Cloud in the U District is very clean, quiet, and easy to get to.  Right next to U Village which has everything you could want. The staff is always friendly & helpful.  Love this place!

I've stayed in many hotels but never one with staff as friendly and helpful as here. They have a shuttle that I used each day, a nice complimentary breakfast, and they even saved me a walk up the hill to McDonald's when I needed a glass of milk one night. An employee happily went into the kitchen and got me one. This is a clean comfortable hotel with fabulous service.

Amazing.  I highly recommend this place.  I was here for a 2 day school orientation at University of Washington. The staff was very helpful, room was immaculate, breakfast was delicious and location is prime. University village mall is within walking distance.  Free shuttle within 3 miles is very convenient and easy to set up. I will definitely be back when I am in the Seattle area.

I recently stayed in one of the suites. It was very clean and we loved being able to control the a/c in our room. The staff at check in were extremely nice. I knocked off one star because we were there two nights but housekeeping never came after our first night. I also made two phone calls to the hotel prior to checking in (but after reservations were made) to ask questions and each time had a curt person on the other end of the phone. The bed was ok, but not extremely comfortable. I didn't try the breakfast but my husband said it was average (but free is free if you ask me!). Parking is a plus. Not bad considering how affordable the place is!

Booked via hotwire and got a good deal. Backed out of my Hilton reservation based on the free parking and was well worth it!

Room was clean. Area was quiet but not so quiet that I felt like I had to tiptoe around.  Didn't notice any unsavory characters hanging around. Breakfast was free and ok too. Free parking!

We never opted for any services but when we asked the maid in the hallway for an extra shampoo and soap we were given a few. Very friendly and professional staff both at check-in and check-out.

I've been here 3 weeks due to it's location to UW.  They've made me change rooms 4 times, and once I did on my own because the room had COCKROACHES!!!!!!  If it weren't for the location, it would be the last place I'd stay.

Amended review.
In another venue, the manager responded well to the issues I raised.  Likely next time I stay will be better.  You may have the best luck if you are not in the last few rooms (at the far end of the building.   In many ways this hotel is much better than average, so I will happy to return and "give them another chance."
Original review:  A 4-day, 3-night stay.
Toilet clogged the first night.  Called for maintenance as I left the following morning.
Toilet clogged (again) the SECOND night.  Called for maintenance as I left the following morning.  Thankfully the remaining period was OK.  But I have to wonder, since other yelpers have made note of this hotel's plumbing.
WiFi.  Not horrible, but would not support connections for all three of my devices at once:  mobile phone, tablet, and laptop/notebook.
One other note:  this hotel is quite long and narrow.  In other words, the main corridor must have sixty or eighty room doors to pass as you hike to the furthest end.  This could be an issue if -- like me -- you are not able to walk far,
Very convenient location just north of the "University Village" shopping mall and adjoining the Burke-Gilman path.
Very comfortable bed and large HD flat-screen TV.

I was very happy with my stay here.  I stayed here for seven days, six nights in the month of August.  This hotel was great and I can only say positive things about this hotel.

Our room was very spacious and kept very clean.  I never once saw the maid service in my room, but it was always very clean.  We had a microwave (which we never used), refrigerator, and coffee pot with free grounds provided.  For bath products they provided aveda.  Free wi-fi is always a plus.  It's a little annoying that you keep having to enter a passcode everytime you log in.  The internet was also much slower than I was used to.  The location is wonderful - you're right next to the university village - for lots of shopping, and on the other side is the burke gilman bike trail.

As mentioned by other reviewers, they have a shuttle service that is readily available for it's guests and it will also pick you up.  They do recommend that you make reservations ahead of time, but I had no problem getting to where I needed at the time I wanted.

Their front desk staff is very friendly and helpful.  They seem genuinely pleased to try to help you out or answer questions.  Very down to earth, yet professional.

I didn't use much of their hotel services (the pool, fitness room, or conference rooms) - however, I did use the Laundry room.  Laundry machines are free - you can purchase single detergent/dryer sheets for $1 at the front desk.

Lastly their free breakfast is the most comprehensive of several hotels I've stayed at in the past year.  Most places I have stayed have nothing but carbs galore.  This hotel offers several protein selections - eggs, sausage, yogurt.

This is seriously the best hotel I've stayed at this past year and I would happily go back.
