I've stayed in many different hotels in downtown Milwaukee and this by far exceeds all others! Beautiful, spacious rooms. One of a kind architecture. Staff was great. I wouldn't stay anywhere but here. So very clean and comfortable.

Gorgeous historical renovation, with luxury accommodations.  The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is they were still working out service kinks in the restaurant and bar (and please Hilton, add a non-dairy milk option to your breakfast bar).  The doorman was exceptionally courteous and helpful.  Reasonable $14 car service to the airport.

What a beautiful hotel! Just opened a week or so, and the little woman reserved a room for a quick trip to MKE. This place is in a historic old building, that used to be a bank, and the lobby/atrium of the hotel is just spectacular. The room we reserved had a floor to ceiling window wall, and 12-foot ceiling. Definitely a step up from what you would  expect from the Hilton Garden Inn brand...

I've upgraded my rating of the hotel itself to 4 stars but I'm still not a fan of its parking (see below). I park at a nearby garage that is more secure (i.e. patrolled regularly by security staff) and cheaper ($12 for 24 hours). I advise others not to park in the unsecured open lot on Broadway or let their cars be parked by the valet (who usually park it in that same lot).

I've stayed two more times since my initial visit and have found the staff to be friendly especially in the restaurant for breakfast. Strangely enough, you can't pick up a Sunday newspaper at the hotel or nearby (you can get that at other Milwaukee Hilton Family hotels).

I still advise folks to get an upper floor, toward the front of the hotel. I had a suite (and all of the suites face the back alley) and got an early wake-up call from the garbage truck picking up dumpsers ( I did go back to sleep).

Fabulously restored, unlike most Hilton's. Stayed in a King Corner with 14 ft. ceilings. If you want to be downtown, this is the place! Kevin B. is correct about the garbage trucks, but we too went back to sleep.

Nice hotel in a historic building. Good choice if you are downtown. Staff does a nice job. Location does not offer shuttle service to the airport. The valet parking charge is $20-25 per day. The location gives you a a very modern feel.

I had a great time on my trip to Milwaukee with my friends.  We stayed her because of  its proximity and price.  Its a modern hotel but made to look old fashioned.  I don't have any complaints about this place.

Total disappointment in service.  We drive up and there's no valet there, he exists, he's just not there.  get blocked in by a cab for a good ten minutes.  Can't get in or out, just stuck, no valet guy anywhere to help.  Later the guy rams into me as we are leaving and almost knocks me over.  Real nice.  
Finally get in.  Get to the room....and we have no outdoor window.  That's right, an internal room.  Our window looks into.....a conference room.  We called the desk and asked for a change, nothing available and "this is a historic building so this is how it goes."  um.  thanks.  So we lived in a cave for 2 days.  At check out we expressed out disappointment that nothing was done to accommodate us, no compensation for the fact that we got stuck in one of the worst rooms in the hotel.  Nothing.  Nothing was done.  My husband spoke the manager and we were offered....nothing.  I will be writing to hilton corporate to ask for a refund or some sort of compensation.  In the future, guests should be notified ahead of time if they are to be placed in a room with essentially zero natural light.  I think a basic window to the outside world is a minimum expectation in a decent hotel.  
Will never return.

I stayed at this hotel the weekend of my wedding, and it was absolutely wonderful! We had booked a suite months earlier, and had visited beforehand while we were in town, and I just couldn't wait to stay here. The entire building is absolutely beautiful, and pictures really don't do it justice. They did the perfect amount of updating, without making it too modern where it didn't fit the historical theme of the building.

The suite was very large, with a comfy bed, large bathroom, and large sitting area. We had two separate areas instead of one big open area, which was nice and what I wanted, as my bridesmaids and I would be getting ready there the morning of my wedding. The mini fridge was a nice touch, and came in handy with keeping our champagne cold!

The only things keeping this hotel from a full 5 stars is the confusion of setting up our wedding block. We had set it up shortly after the hotel opened, and made a few additional reservations as well, for ourselves, parents, and sisters. They didn't have the full system set up yet, so we only had a confirmation number they gave us through the phone. A few months pass, and I had put my (now) mother in law in charge of checking up with the hotel to see who had booked their rooms in our block, and how many rooms we had left, etc. She calls one day to check up on everything, to find out that they lost(?!) our original reservations? They apparently had no record of them. This normally wouldn't be a huge deal, but we were getting married the weekend two or three colleges also had their commencement celebrations. We knew in advance hotels downtown would be few and far between, not to mention cost a fortune! So it was kind of a big deal that they "didn't have" our reservations we had made months ago. Luckily, they were able to get us in with the original rooms we requested - but I may have gone Bridezilla on their ass if my mother in law hadn't been in charge of it. We also had given the hotel a bunch of out of town guest bags, to give to our guests when they checked in the hotel - and from what it sounds like, many of our guests didn't even end up getting their bag. Kind of annoying - not to mention, a waste of money if they're still sitting back there collecting dust.

Other than those few snafus, the hotel was outstanding, and I really enjoyed staying here. If I didn't already have free accommodations when visiting family, I would definitely want to stay here while in town. It's a great downtown Milwaukee hotel.

As others have said -- beautiful older building.  Marble steps, woodwork, all very elegant.
The breakfast was around $10.  The room service costs were very reasonable (cheap even) and were comparable to the restaurants in the area.  The bar prices were fine too.
The room had 10 foot high ceilings (maybe higher).   The heat worked fine and was not overly loud.  I don't know how many people were staying there at the same time but we didn't hear much sound.  I would assume the building was built pretty solid back in the day so the noise level is low.  Lots of restaurants near the hotel and the Third Ward is a short walk.  I didn't feel there was much worry to walking about after dark.  It is an easy walk from the intermodal (train, bus) station too.  I would stay there again (I'm suposed to be back in March of 2013).

They don't make buildings like these anymore.  They did a great job restoring the building while making a very comfortable hotel.  Will stay here every time I visit Milwaukee.

This place is gorgeous. When we booked a room at this Hilton Garden Inn we had no idea it would be such an amazing and unique hotel. The rooms have REALLY high ceilings, which stunned us when we walked in. They are twice the height of a typical room. The building that houses the hotel is historic and it's been totally redone and restored. It's in walking distance of the lake, much of downtown, Marquette University, the river. Basically, it was a perfect place to stay.

One thing they need to work on: the food service. My opinion is that they should hire a good chef to come in and run a proper restaurant. While the current breakfast buffet and made-to-order omelettes are good, the lunch and dinner menus are just okay, and you can only get room service for a short span in the evening. I called room service one evening and it rang 20 times, no answer. Finally had to order through the front desk.

Room and hotel was beautiful! The tall ceilings were amazing. Valet parking was easy and the attendants were helpful and courteous. Our car was parked in the open lot across from the hotel and we had no problems. Valet parking was a bit steep at $24.00 but that seemed to be going rate at all hotels in area. Shuttle was a great service. Wished it had gone past 10:00 though. Our only issues were with the extremely hard mattress, no bathroom fan. and the knock on the door at 8:00 a.m. by housekeeping.

Great hotel choice downtown.  It's a beautiful old building with classic architecture and touches throughout.  But the rooms are thoroughly modern and nicely furnished.  The bathrooms are huge and modern.

The hotel staff was helpful.  They have a shuttle (a large van) that will take you to dinner nearby, then will come pick you up when you call.  Very nice.  Lots of good places to eat that are walking distance, too.

I'll stay here again.

WOW!  This building is gorgeous!  Located right in central downtown in the old Loyalty Building.  Looks like they are still remodeling some of the room.  My room was huge.  Didn't try the restaurant.  Valet service was good.

I don't understand how this hotel could get so many positive reviews. After all, you are not living in the stunning ballroom! I booked the hotel one week in advance under corporate rate. It turned out that, without notifying and confirming with me whatsoever during check in, they gave me an accessible room. In addition, the AC in the room was sooooo loud. And the towels in the bathroom smelled weird. And, the breakfast buffet in the morning was horrible in terms of both the food and service. They don't have in room dining option for breakfast. I have always liked Hilton hotels and  always stayed with Hilton during travel. But this one, was by far the worst Hilton among all I have ever stayed.

I have stayed here a few times and really like it. The building is beautiful and the rooms are well maintained. The one time I had an issue they were on it and had me in a new room in a few minutes.

The location is also great. It is pretty easy to walk to most things, food, art museum and various location sights.

The only downfall is it fills up quickly so you need to book your trip early.

This hotel is beautifully designed! The staff is friendly and wants to make sure that the customers are pleased. Upon our check in we were given a complimentary breakfast coupon to enjoy there delicious breakfast. The rooms are well maintained and clean. The only downfall to staying here is parking. There is a daily charge of $24 for valet parking and across from the hotel is self parking for $10 daily. If you can avoid having a car while staying here this would be the ideal place to stay. We will visit here again.

This hotel built in the 1800's is absolutely magnificent.  Ornately decorated, it was the most modern of its time.  Vents that could be manually opened and closed to use the cool lake air to keep the building cold.  Electricity was new at the time so it had duel fixtures for gas and electric.  The hotel has painstakingly worked to restore and maintain one my favorite buildings I have stayed in on my many travels.

So why three stars?  CLEANLINESS!!!!  My first room, while well stocked and quite nice, had dust so thick on the bedside table I literally wrote my name in it!  There was food underneath the bed and what looked like coke spilled down the wall,  in fairness they did move me to another room but that was only about 50% better.  No scmeg on the walls but the carpet, especially near the nightstand was noticeably still filled with particulate.   I think the it's a result of thick carpet and an old vacuum but never the less - no excuse.  Also the nook under the bed side table where I wrote by name in the other room had only been partly clean with the sides and back still filled with dust.  

Service at the hotel is great . The valets are especially genial.  I will say the $24 a day valet is a little exorbitant, but a minor matter.

I will be back I think on my next trip hoping that they will have founded some pledge and a rag.

This hotel is pretty awesome! It's located right in the center of the city and within walking distance of the public market!

The staff was friendly and always willing to help. They also have a snack area which is always open.

The room was phenomenal! It was large and had a nice bathroom and a microwave/fridge/keurig!!

Absolutely loved this hotel as well as the fine city of Milwaukee. Can't wait to come back!!

Great hotel! The staff were all extremely friendly and accommodating. The building itself a truly historic and artfully designed. It maintains so much of its magnificent character from the late 1800s. On the first floor you will find several brief descriptions discussing the history of the hotel and its architect. The room was extremely comfortable and large. The bed and the pillows made for a great night's stay :)

I would definitely stay here in again the next time I am in town. My only complaint was the parking situation. I am always irked when I have to pay to park at a hotel and the $24.00 over night fee seemed a little steep, but the valet servicemen were all very nice and had my car waiting for me downstairs after giving them a heads up call that I was on my way down. Great guys!

Clean, quiet hotel with comfortable beds, a beautiful atrium, great location, and friendly service.

Room:
Our room was mid-sized, with a king bed, desk/work area, armchair, TV/drawers,  mini-fridge/coffee area, and a closet. The room itself is pretty much standard with any other hotel.

Bathroom:
Fairly clean. I say fairly because I saw a hair in the corner soon after we checked in. I had not gone in the bathroom before then, so it was not mine. There are Neutrogena toiletries, which were fine.

Bed:
The bed was comfortable and large, with fluffy pillows. The hotel was also quiet for the most part, so sleep quality was good. However, I also found a thin blonde hair on the comforter that was not mine (I have thick black hair) nor my SO's (who has curly brown hair).

Decor/atrium:
While our room decor was ordinary, the atrium of the hotel is absolutely gorgeous. There are high ceilings and beautiful designs.

Service:
The staff I encountered were friendly and attentive. Whenever we entered the hotel, someone would open the door for us. The lady we met at check-in was very friendly as well.

While I enjoyed the beautiful atrium in this historic hotel and the friendly service, I wanted something more for the price. For the fairly high price, I was hoping for a more spacious room or more amenities. I guess the price is probably due to the decor. However, I would have liked the room to be hair-less and have more special features for the higher price.
