When I visit the Wisconsin Dells / Lake Delton / Baraboo area, I generally camp out at Devil's Lake...  I just enjoy being out under the stars.  However, I recently stayed at The Black Hawk Motel with a few friends, and was quite pleased with the experience.  It has a very nice folksy comfortable feel.  It is very well maintained, with everything in working order, and very clean.  They have many nice amenities, most notably the retro arcade, hot tub, sauna, pool and play area.  The staff are all very accommodating and friendly, and were very helpful in recommending what attractions to see (and how to avoid the crowds).  Our room was in good order, and very comfortable despite warm weather.  I enjoyed staying on the main strip, but a little ways away from the chaos.  We were able to walk to many attractions and shop, but sleep soundly and had no trouble finding parking (thanks to their assigned parking).  While I generally prefer camping, when in the area, I'll definitely always consider The Black Hawk Motel when I want to stay somewhere a little more comfortable.

I was skeptical, because it is very near the strip in Wis Dells. We were in town for a wedding and on a budget. The motel was really clean, i was impressed at the cleanliness, quite neighbors and helpful desk service. it is a "pay before you stay" joint so keep that in mind if you are splitting the bill. The decor is stuck in 1965 but it is so clean it is more of a homage to that era. 1 Saturday night was $66 for a queen room.

We have been going to the Black Hawk Motel for years.  When we call to make our annual reservation, they always remember who we are and ask how our year has been.  It is a no-nonsense motel, with a nice outdoor and indoor pool, very clean rooms, nice bathrooms, refrigerators, DVD/CD/MP3 players and a nice selection of cable channels.

Located at the end of the Wisconsin Dells strip, it is away from the heavy tourist crowds that walk around at all hours of the day.  The staff is always very pleasant, polite and amiable.  You also get a Wisconsin Dells Fun Card (valued at $10) for free, which is a nice perk to use for many 2 for 1 things.  We used up a bunch of the offers and was able to save money.

The rooms are spacious and have a table and chairs for you to invite friends over to play games in your rooms.  There are also two deck chairs and a table for you to sit out and just relax.

For the great price (our room was a king-sized bed for $90/night at peak of season), it is a terrific value for a weekend get-away.

Where else are you going to stay that has a cool name like "Black Hawk"?!?! Yeah it's a little Bates Motel on the outside, but inside isn't so bad though I wouldn't bring a black-light or anything like that. The perks... the staff leaves you alone, the rooms are a nice size, and it's moderately priced but that's about it. Why stay here then? Well, because it's right off the main strip and being able to walk instead of finding a parking spot in town (it's insane during the busy season) is so much easier. Plus they have an indoor/ outdoor pool and a game room (thought most hotels around here do). I really shouldn't mock it, I stay there a lot.

Surprisingly decent hotel, actually.  A large group of us (7 guys) stayed here last weekend.  The first night, we stayed in a "room" which was actually a 2 bedroom house with both queen size beds and a bunch of pull-out couch beds.  It was pretty cool, although the water pressure in the shower sucked.

The second night, we switched to a pair of large regular rooms.  The water pressure was much better here.  The rooms had mini-fridges in them, which was nice for storing some beers.

Price was pretty good and the front desk guy was nice enough.  My only real complaint was that the A/C was insanely loud.

The place is a little hokey, but everything in Wis Dells is, so a little more won't hurt.  Rooms were clean, bed was comfortable and fresh, good shower, friendly service and reasonable prices.  The Dells were not even a destination for us, but it was a very nice layover on the way east.

Excellent value for the money. Clean and well kept.  Or a budget hotel, this is a great place. I've paid far more for less quality

We stayed here for one night.  It's adorable, clean, cheap, and close to downtown.  The pool is great as well as the arcade.  I highly recommend this place.

This place was awesome! Two friends and I stayed here for 5 nights for a very good deal. The pool is warm, the hot tub is hot, beds are comfy. Room was very clean! My only worry was there was no lid on the toilet seat, so I kept feeling as though I was going to drop my stuff in the toilet when changing....but that's just a minor detail. We will definitely be coming back!

We will definitely be going back to the Blackhawk.   We spent part of our honeymoon here after realizing the Wilderness was not the spot to unwind after wedding madness.

We had the deluxe king room.  We used the fridge, it was a little bigger than a dorm-sized fridge but it worked.  There was also a MP3/DVD player, which was nice.

They offer an outdoor and indoor pool.  We utilized the indoor pool (which also includes a fun slide - I'm sure meant for kids only, but we still used it).  The hot tub was nice.  Overall the pool-room could use a little updating, but if you just want to go swim and you're not picky, it's fine.

They also offered a fun game room with retro video games.   It was nice to be able to play a little Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (and kick my husband's buns) while sitting at the old-school console.  Fun, in an up-north kind of way, and very low key.

Overall we had a nice, relaxing stay here.  It was very reasonably priced, and the staff couldn't have been nicer to us.  The rooms were clean (although a little outdated - 60's - ish decor, but that's part of the charm).  There's a nice little restaurant down the street, about a block away.  We got a few coupons when we checked in for the restaurant, which was a nice offer.

The Blackhawk is just far enough off the strip to be a relaxing place away from the usual Dells chaos.   If you like the Dells but hate the tourist atmosphere, here's a nice place to stay and get away from the crowds.

Not just a great value, but a great place.  Clean, quiet, and comfortable.  If not for the EuroBath soap dispensers, I would say that the bathroom was newly renovated or just that well kept.  If there was one thing they could improve upon, it would be the Oxygenics shower head.

I picked this place because the price seemed very fair and it was a few blocks from the downtown area. It also had a good reputation on yelp and trip advisor. The good news is that it is a great place to stay if you're not looking for something expensive. They have an outdoor pool that goes up to 9 feet as well as an indoor pool, whirpool, and sauna room. There is also a game room and a grill thats located outside the pool area. The staff is very friendly too and the rooms are very clean. Another great bonus are daily passes for free admission to Noah"s Ark and Chula Vista.I didn't have any complaints during my four nights there with my girlfriend. I would come back to this place again.

Nice value, quaint.  Orbitz was higher rate than calling friendly night clerk.   Had an old-fashioned 1950's Motel feel although the rooms were neat and clean.  Don't forget to check out the retro-arcade.

Prime location and seriously the two bedroom unit was literally a house. We loved it I will request the two bedroom every single time. Blackhawk is the only place we will stay....and we used to be loyal to the Chula Vista cabins. Why waste money??? Greater value with Blackhawk. Oh and the plush beds with dang on down feather pillows were amazing

Great Old School Motel in the Dells. Within walking distance to downtown. We stayed 2 nights. Rooms 51,52 and 56. All were clean and served the purpose perfectly. I would be happy to stay here again.

I completely agree with most of the reviews here. AMAZING motel! The outside is an authentic 1950s theme, but retrofitted. Meaning they kept the style but it has new porches, new things etc. The rooms are immaculately clean. You could eat off of the floors, they're that clean. They have a sign out front that they have Sealy Plush beds. They really do! The beds were perfect. Very plush, extremely comfortable. The shower was great, good adjustable pressure. In addition to the standard bars of soap, shampoo etc they give, they also have gel soap dispensers in the shower to give you extra soap for after you get done swimming if you want to wash off the chlorine. They have an awesome indoor and outdoor pool. Additionally they also have an indoor and outdoor jacuzzi, 2 saunas and a private jacuzzi room with an additional jacuzzi and sauna if you don't want to be in the main pool area. The indoor pool is very warm. The outdoor pool is warm too, with a dual small waterslide. They also just added a new park area with playground, jungle gym, swings, picnic area - the works, all new. This place is family owned and operated. The husband and wife are so nice and caring. Such sweet people. We came upon this place kindof last minute. We booked a 3 queen bed room for 5 people at a super 8, but then needed to change the dates 2 days earlier. Every hotel was booked, and the super 8 wanted to charge $300 extra for the swap. After calling almost every hotel motel in the dells, I called Black Hawk. They had one room left, but it wasn't big enough for a rollaway. But they wanted to accommodate us, so they were able to move someone to a different room and give us an oversized room to fit an extra bed. That's service! I will deffinatly be back!!! Thank you so much for a great vacation experience!

Without a doubt, the best place for your dollar in the Dells. Super-clean, great staff, family friendly with new playground equipment. The kitchen in our unit was spotless, and about as well stocked as you could ask for. Even the free coffee was pretty darn good!

The passes to Chula Vista are effortless to use, and it's easy to walk to the main strip of the downtown Dells if you're in the mood. We will become one of the many groups of folks who return here yearly.

Very clean, close to downtown, and great service.  Stayed there during the offseason, I think it could be very noisy and hard to park at when busy.

We stayed in one of the premium double rooms. The location is right at the end of the downtown fun on Broadway Street. The setting is ina residential area. I did an online reservation and the rate was great. It was comparatively lower than other hotels in the Dells. I absolutely love that, at check in, I was handed a metal key with the long plastic key chain with the room number on it. No key card was kind of cool for a change. Each room has a couple of easy chairs out front and each room has a large picture window. The buildings look aged and as I approached the door of our room, it smelled kind of basement-y. I thought to myself,"I hope that's not our room that I'm smelling." I opened the door and, sure enough, there was an odor of musty, mildew, basement-y smell. They must have mildew in the walls or ceiling. The room looked great with brand new hardware and furniture and a fresh coat of paint. The room was huge and the bathroom was stunning. The A/C and heater were a window unit with a wall switch that said, "up for A/C and down for heat." We happened to stay at the beginning of the off season so we actually needed to use the A/C one day and the heat on the other day. Well, I flipped the switch and something must have shorted out because the unit died right before our eyes and did not work again as A/C or as a heater. The room was clean and comfy and the proximity to activities was very convenient. As we checked out and started the car ride home, our hair and all of our clothes and laundry in the suitcases had that musty smell of mildew. I do have to say that this motel had strong WIFI and that is a rarity among the motel class of rooms. We enjoyed our stay, but not the smell.

Great little motel! I'll be honest, I've never stayed in a MOtel before, usually I'm a HOtel gal, but the reviews on Yelp pointed me here, so here we stayed. It was very clean, the desk staff was great and we loved the large 2 bedroom 4 queen beds and cheap price. The only problem we had was when we came in, the heat was left on and it was HOT in the room. The manager came down, encouraged us to use the AC and told us we'd get a credit on our bill for the inconvenience.

We used the slide and pool which were warm and fun; as well as the outdoor playground which was small but my kids enjoyed it. The hotel is slated for a remodel soon, so the decor will be a little bit more contemporary.

The hotel came with passes to Chula Vista which was really fun, but you need to bring a towel if you go- they don't provide any for people who don't stay in the hotel.

Always a favorite when going to the Dells! Place is how a family vaca should be and it looks the same as when I was a kid at least the outside. It's clean and remodeled inside. Pools are warm and clean, place is great. Don't stay at those crazy waterpark places they SUCK. This place gives you free passes to water parks anyway. Fun and friendly owners. There is a reason this place is the #1 place to stay on trip advisor! U got me?
My only beef with the Dells is they act like Disney these days, nickel and dime the s*** out of you. Not the Blackhawk the shops and parks. Everything is over priced. Jeesh!

This place is one of our favorites for a quick family get away.  Very friendly people who are always out and about working on something or cleaning something up.  I was shocked at how clean this place was based on past experiences at motels.

It's awesome at night sitting outside your door and visiting with the other guests.  Great pool area for the kids.  We stay here every year. Book early, because they fill up fast.

Great place, awesome price! We decided to stay an extra day in the Dells so I booked it based on Yelp's reviews. Check in was at 4pm but they allowed me to check in at 10:30am, that was amazing since I have an 8 month old. The room was clean and the pool was great for our last day in Wisconsin.  I would definitely stay here again and recommend this place to family /friends.
